The grassy knoll was actually pretty comfortable. The grass was a touch damp, but with the rising heat of the London sun, it was sure to warm up quickly. Katrina rested with her legs extended in front of her and her arms supporting her from behind. She was thankful she had decided for her outfit because it was pretty cool and she was able to appreciate every stray blow of wind coming her way.

There was quite the turnout at the party. The assumed birthday girl [Aurelia] was wearing a fashionable outfit and seemed as happy as could be. Then there was a boy [Valentin] Katrina somewhat recognized as a student from one of the other schools there first. Then another girl [Akari] showed up seeming a bit lost. Katrina had to do a double take when she realized that there were two girls wearing red dresses. The second one [Rose] was bearing a gift, Katrina was thankful she had thought to bring one too.

The birthday girl--Aurelia, was it?-- addressed each of her guests in turn. When she turned to Katrina, she waved and greeted her with a smile. "Thanks for the invitation!" Katrina surprised herself with her cheery tone. Maybe the fact that she was at a party was rubbing off on her.

Katrina moved onto one of the blankets and reassumed her casual position. Might as well appreciate everything that was set up. She rested back, idly watching people interact. She was close enough that she could easily eavesdrop if she wished, but she didn't really feel like it. Instead, she chose to enjoy the day and simply relax

Then her eyes spotted a girl [Scarlett] that looked oddly like her. Well, besides the teal streak. She had the same auburn hair and basic build. Katrina hid her quizzical expression and instead smiled and waved a bit when the girl did a double take on her too. It seemed there was a lot that this party had to offer.

Katrina dug in her pocket for the gift, fingering the thin wrapping paper that she kept from a gift she had received last year. Katrina hoped she could hand it to Aurelia a bit later.

Permission has been given to slightly godmod Akari
Jess was walking to her tent, meaning to go take out her sketchbook and start on a drawing that she had been thinking about making for the whole morning now, when she heard someone shout her name from somewhere on her side. As she still didn't really have too many friends at the summer camp, Jess figured that she had imagined the call and continued walking, but it came again.

"Jess! Over here!"

Looking over to where the shout had come from, Jess saw Akari, waving her over to herself. Peering at the girl, Jess realized that she was standing in the middle of a group of people, all surrounded by tastefully arranged blankets and pillows. Combining this with the slightly fancy way in which most everyone was dressed and the small table holding up a rather large collection of cupcakes, Jess figured that this was the birthday party she had seen advertised on the cards hanging up all over camp. Maybe Akari knew the birthday girl, and that was why she was there? Jess shook her head, deciding it didn't matter. She didn't know who the birthday was actually for, so she didn't plan on attending.

"Jess!" Akari called again, gesturing for Jess to come join her.

Reluctantly, Jess began to slowly walk in the direction of the party. It couldn't hurt to say hi to Akari and wish the girl a happy birthday, could it? Jess always liked it when people remembered it was her birthday and wished her well for it, so maybe the girl would appreciate Jess doing the same, even if they didn't know each other. Logical as this seemed, Jess still couldn't stop the nervousness that was slowly filling her up as she came closer and closer to the chatting, happy group of people at the party. What am I doing here? I wasn't invited; I don't belong here, a little voice whispered to Jess. She told it to shut up. It didn't. Fine. She told it. Compromise. I'll just go talk to Akari for a bit and tell the girl happy birthday, and then I'll leave. Good? The voice agreed, and her nervousness ebbed slightly.

"Hi," she said to Akari as she finally reached the party area. "I didn't realize you already knew enough people to have been invited to a birthday party..." She looked around and spotted the girl who she had run into on her walk earlier- Katrina- and waved. Then, seeing the birthday girl standing a few feet away, Jess broke away from Akari and went to wish the girl a happy birthday. Or at least, she figured from the pretty way she dressed and the mass of people surrounding her that this was the girl who the party was for. Jess waited until no one was talking to the girl anymore, then slid up to her. "Hello... you're the birthday girl, right? Happy birthday!"

It was starting to become more lively. Aurelia finished her cupcake and listened intently to Valentin. Her eyes widened as he put down his silver arrow. She had always wanted one, but since she wasn't on the team she didn't see a point in getting one.

Next, Valentin pulled out her invitation card, that was very precisely painted with flowers. Yes, most people probably came here because of them.
Valentin seemed to have seen the presents being given to Aurelia because he said: "I come with not much out Germany. For birthday I can give broom ride later" At that Auri blushed. She didn't expect any stranger to give her anything anyways, and a broom ride seemed more than enough, especially since she couldn't get enough of it.
"Y-yes, no- no that's completely fine... I didn't expect anyone to bring anything and a broom ride sounds excellent!", she remarked.

Akari, that was apparently the younger girl's name, brought something as well. With a lot of stuttering, Auri thanked the girl and carefully took the small parcel and placed it next to Rose's.

Soon after, another student arrived. Aurelia had seen them before, at some event here in summer camp... was it the water fight? Yes! That was it. Towards the beginning of the water fight, they were standing next to Alexei, who Aurelia was aiming her water gun at. The hair was unmistakable.
"Aurelia, right?", they said upon arriving.
"That would be me", Auri responded with a grin, that widened when they told her happy birthday in both Spanish and English.
With a laugh, Aurelia said: "Bilingual? Nice. Feel free to grab yourself a cupcake. Also, er- sorry, but what was your name?"

And then... Aurelia spotted another familiar red-head.
"Auri!", said Scarlett, who she had met not too long ago, sometime before the summer break, "Happy Birthday! The party looks amazing. And, er, here's a little gift I brought you."
"Nice to see you, Scarlett!", Aurelia replied, "Thanks... I- wow! Is that a muggle camera?! Thank you so much!" Happily, Aurelia put the camera next to the growing pile of presents.

Aurelia was beaming. The party was going great! New people kept arriving and it seemed as though Katrina had already settled down. Another girl, whose name Aurelia assumed to be Jess because Akari kept on shouting it, arrived and also said a quick Happy Birthday. Another first-year?
"Thanks! Well, it's not technically my birthday yet, but still... thanks!", Auri responded. Then she glanced at the pile of cupcakes was almost untouched. That needed to change.
"Hey everyone! Make sure to grab yourself a cupcake!", Auri declared, pointing at the cupcake table. Hopefully, they could get them all finished by today.

Aurelia seemed quite excited about the prospect of a ride with Valentin on the Silver Arrow. The boy loved speed and just maybe the girl would enjoy going over 60mph and co-performing certain aerial feats that less obsessive people than Valentin would never dare. Either that or he would terrify the poor girl on her birthday and have to cut the ride short. Either way, he thought it would be an excellent way of showing her the attention she deserved and making a opportunity for cool memories on her special day. Compared to what he had to go through for Quidditch training at Durmstrang, this would be a pleasure cruise for the White Niffler. Besides, the girl was quite cute when she stuttered, so Valentin wanted to find out how she would sound after doing a couple of barrel rolls. Who knows, maybe she would even love it and he could throw in a Pugachev’s Cobra.

In the meantime, Valentin needed to lay low until the other presents were opened so that he could prioritize a good target for his next game. Well, he couldn’t really lay any lower than down on the blanket, so Valentin moved his cupcake closer to his broom as to not smash it himself as he laid flat. Then the boy put his hands in the air above him and started to play invisible, imaginary piano keys, humming quietly to himself. He really should have packed more sheet music.

Rose briefly scrunched up her nose, suprressing a smirk, when she realized that Valentin was flirting with Auri. He was kinda cute, and Rose wondered if maybe there would be chemistry between them. She did not miss Auri's blush when he offered her a ride on his broom... a silver arrow. Rose's mom always insisted that fancy brooms were just that- fancy. that they weren't any better than regular brooms. Rose and her brother Gabe, a Quidditch Finatic, had always thought differently. They had both read Quidditch Through the Ages sevral times and knew enough about the subject to know that a Firebolt was definetley faster than a Nimbus 2000.
"Oh, my birthday is actually the day after yours," Rose replied when Auri asked her when her birthday was. "August second." It was on a Sunday this year. Auri told her to put it aside for now and was all embarrassed, so she did. Later, what seemed to be a a purple-haired girl came and apologized for their tentmate spilling punch all over her.
"Oh, no problem. Some girls are just like that," she answered, then turbed to her and introducing herself, "I'm Rose Moon, a Gryffindor."
Scarlett Aden arrived, also giving Auri a present and greeting Rose. "Hi, Scarlett! How are you? I love your dress, by the way." Rose greeted back. "It's so good to see you here."

Maybe... a bit late. Mars hurried over, still in the process of slinging their jacket over their shoulders as the scrap of paper fluttered in their grasp. Said paper was actually an invitation, one that looked quite well-done if Mars could say so themselves.

The wix had just come after stumbling back into their tent after a little bit of running around. It had been good to get out and explore the campsite. They'd made their way over to their bed and were about to plop down when they saw the invite lying there. Oh right. An invitation to Aurelia's birthday party. An invitation to a birthday party. An invitation to a birthday party that was happening right now.

Sighing at the memory of hastily throwing on some clothes that didn't smell like sweat and grass, grabbing their guitar, and rushing out here, the Ravenclaw stopped at a wooden table filled with cupcakes. They sucked in a breath, letting their eyes focus for a moment. Then, they stared slightly at the sight.

That was—a lot of cupcakes.

Glancing around, it seemed that quite a few people had already arrived. The wix scanned the crowd for a certain someone, namely the birthday girl in question. Finally, they spotted her, pushing off the table to meander over, their guitar loosly slung over a shoulder.

"Auri!" they smiled, "Happy Birthday!" Looking at her brought back memories of how they'd met at Crystal's Popcorn Party. They glanced back at the table of sweets and then back at Aurelia,

"What is it kids 'round here always having too much to eat?" they joked. A breeze whipped up at their hair and they chuckled as they brushed it out of their face.

"Sorry that I don't have a present but—" Mars slid the guitar down, letting the strap catch it before it hit the ground, "If you'd like, I can play you something instead?"

[ Home, they said. I should like to go home. ]

The girl - practically her doppelganger - didn't seem too shocked by the revelation that they looked surprisingly similar. Instead, she just smiled and waved, quite casually, to be honest. Scarlett waved back kind of awkwardly and offered a small smile in return.

Aurelia's reaction was pretty much more than Scarlett had hoped for, wished for and thought would happen - which was saying something about her general expectations. Auri seemed to be beaming, like waves of sunlight and happiness and shine were radiating off her. Now, anyone else like this, Scarlett might have found a pest, or annoying, due to her naturally short-tempered nature, but for her friend, Scarlett was glad she was enjoying her birthday in the bright, sunshiny days of July. Scarlett was born in November for crying out loud! There weren't a lot of fun, outdoorsy activities you could really do in November, which was a shame. Scarlett was more the open-air type.

"No problem, Auri," Scarlett laughed, smiling widely. In all her newfound, so-called 'maturity', she had forgot how good just grinning and laughing casually felt. Scarlett would definitely ease down on trying to become 'wiser' and generally older. After all, she was only twelve. Sure, some of her friends might be way a bit intelligent for their age, but that didn't mean she had to be. Ever heard of peer pressure?

Even thinking about that stuff made Scarlett laugh. She took it as a good sign and firmly told herself to enjoy the day. You know what they say - Carpe Diem.

Scarlett noticed Rose subtly suppressing a smirk and scrunching up her nose in the direction of Aurelia and the boy with the pale skin and white-blond-looking hair. She curiously glanced over, but couldn't see anything but idle chatter. Scarlett swiftly snagged a cupcake - really, a work of art with one half covered with red icing and strawberries, and the other with blue icing and blueberries. She took a tentative bite and felt flavours explode in her mouth. These were delicious! Seriously, who had made them?

"Just got myself one!" said Scarlett, in response to Aurelia's quick advertisement of the food. "A cupcake, I mean. And seriously -"

She gestured to the cupcake, and then Aurelia.

"Who made them? They're delicious."

Scarlett finished off her cupcake, feeling pretty content as a voice wafted through the party chatter, that seemed to be addressing her - it had to be her friend Rose. She noted to ask her what she was smirking (well, trying not to smirk) about.

"Hi Rose!" said Scarlett. "I'm fabulous thanks."

Really, 'great' and 'good' didn't match her mood, and were pretty generic in Scarlett's opinion.

"How about you?" she continued. "It's great to see you here as well."

She paused.

Then, "And what were you, er, smirking-not-smirking about? You know, in Auri's direction, ish."

Scarlett briefly saw the arrival of an Asian girl OOC Note: Ah, sorry!! I fully understand that Mars is They/Them and I completely respect that and the LBGTQ+ community, but through Scarlett's eyes, Mars looks very much female because she doesn't know yet. I'm sure she'll learn soon. Again, sorry! <3 who had a guitar (music!) and heard snippets of her offering to play. Well that would be amazing.

Aurelia smiled. She hadn't celebrated her birthday in a long time. Not with friends. At home, she would get a cake and a few presents, but nothing much. Nothing like this. People she knew, people she barely knew, and people she didn't know at all. All gathered together to wish her a happy birthday.

Valentin had sat down and Aurelia decided not to bother him. She also didn't want to embarrass herself any more. But she just couldn't help it with Quidditch boys.

She gulped down the last remains of her cupcake and listened to Rose. "Oh, your birthday is on August 2nd? That's so cool! Are you celebrating?" What a coincidence, Aurelia thought. But she wasn't surprised that her friend was a Leo, it suited her well.

Before she could turn her attention to Scarlett who had grabbed a cupcake, she spotted someone arriving. "Hey Mars!", she squeaked. Her stupid pubescent voice decided to act up now, for Merlin's hat. Nevertheless, she greeted them with a charming grin.

Aurelia smirked at his remark. It was truly a miracle that students at Hogwarts weren't all chubby. What do they put into those feasts anyways? Aurelia suspiciously glanced at the cupcakes, then shook her head. No, her mom wouldn't.

"You play the guitar Mars? That's so cool! I would love to hear something...", the last words were mumbled. She didn't want to ask too much of them, but she was genuinely curious.

Then, at last, she got to talk to Scarlett. "My mom baked them, she quite outdid herself this year, huh?"

Valentin simply laid on his back listening to the voices of Aurelia's attendants accompanied by his own mind music. Valentin was excited that there was probably going to be a guitar involved, though he was a bit disappointed that he would not be able to accompany the guitarist due to his lack of a real piano. Valentin thought back on his mother, who was able to take her voice everywhere in the world as her ultra-portable instrument while she toured with her wrock band. Valentin thought perhaps he should learn singing one day, if just to be able to have something he could always use for music on the spot. It was already hard enough to lug around his broom everywhere, but he had already put so many hours into piano that he didn't want to dilute his practice time with more instruments. There were only so many hours in the day he could spare for things outside of Quidditch. Including schoolwork.....

Wondering what other gifts Aurelia might get, Valentin finished his air-piano and rolled onto his side to observe the rest of the group. A cool breeze ruffled his hair but overall he was quite enjoying the fine weather.
