Adonis had been waiting for this day particular event to happen since June when the summer camp information came out. The second his eyes had found their attention grasped by the words ‘Chess Combat’ on the list, he couldn’t help but read all about it and what doing said activity would entail. Turns out, it would mean one hell of a fun game for him and something to quench his thirst for duelling. Chess Combat was for sure his favorite thing on there and it would be until they were finally able to do some duels. It was close enough to it, anyways. Don would be able to at least cast spells here and there on his opponents with this game. It was like a three-way duel almost but with more strategy involved, which Adonis actually likes to be honest. It made him more competitive and have that ferocious drive in him to win. He would be going up against one of his tent mates and he was not going to back down. Even if that meant lighting her up with the Fire-Making Charm in order to do so. He was here to win, not to worry about who he would have to possibly deal with back at their tent afterwards.

A devilish grin presented itself on Adonis’ face, which was much different from the usual charming smile on his face. His attention was then directed over towards the Durmstrang girl, looking at her with a bewildered look on his face after hearing her speak gibberish to him. The only other language he understood aside from English was Italian, so he had absolutely no idea what the girl was saying to the lot of boys on their team. “We’re going to win, yeah? Good. Glad we agree.” He asked the others and then answered for himself, not waiting for an answer from the four of them. ”Glad we’re on all on the same page at lea-“ Adonis was cut short after hearing Jack’s taunts. “Over my dead body! It’d be a pity if you were to burn the way your house did not too long ago, badger.” The Slytherin boy snapped at Jack in return with a snicker. Competitive things like this really did bring out the ugly side of Adonis at times, especially duelling and competitions like this to be exact.

"𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱. 𝗡𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹, 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗹 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗲, 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝘆. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳."

Another day, another duel, another moderation. It wasn't Artemis' first rodeo with moderating a duel between students and he was positive that it wouldn't be his last. In his eyes, this little chess match was a stress reliever for the students and a way for them to have fun and actually use the magic that they learned in school in a battle situation. The fact that they would be using magic against one another in a supervised setting is a much better situation than the students going off on their own trying to show who has the better aim with their spells. But the Charms Professor believed it would be a very entertaining event for those watching and those involved.

Once he was announced by his colleague, Artemis walked up to the platform and addressed the students participating in the game. "Alright, you lot. I want a nice clean duel without any physical violence. Some of you have a unique heritage which would normally give you an upper hand, but that doesn't mean that your uniqueness can be used in this duel, so be warned that if you are caught, you will be disqualified." Artemis looked at each student in turn before nodding in satisfaction that they all understood. "Everyone to their positions! Remember the rules of dueling. Begin!"

Santario rolled her eyes at Rett and Jack. Why in the world did she get lumped with these two buffoons? They were probably doomed to lose this match, but as long as she did her best, that was all that mattered. The incompetence of her team shouldn’t affect how she was viewed on a skill level. “Alright, Princess, you can have the spot just don’t screw it up.” Her sharp sapphire eyes slid from Rett to Jack. “You either Hero.” It would be clear as day that she did not actually think Jack was a hero more so just someone who could run their mouth until everyone around them died of boredom. Much like Mars and Dee, she didn’t care where she went so long as they could manage to be a functioning team.

Santario took the left-most Rook position and watched the spot across from her as a boy she did not know took its place. Durmstrang? Probably. She had seen more Durmstrang than she had Ilvermorny. She offered him a smile from across the board as she regripped her wand, ready to get things started.

Interacting @Opeila Seilun as Theodore Duncain, all of White Team
An eyebrow quirked up when Theodore responded to Everett's wink with words. A small smirk followed as he shook his head slowly. "Knowing that you're on their team Theo? I couldn't be more confident that we'll exit this victorious." It wasn't unlike Rett to be cocky and shoving his own foot in his mouth, but he couldn't help it. While sometimes his confidence was misplaced, some teasing in a game against friends was pretty standard.

His attention had to quickly turn to his teammates who were talking. Frankly, he completely missed Mars' introduction but had noted everyone's name at the start so it didn't matter much. He wasn't a fan of the Eagles anyway, in the sport and in house. For another house that seemed to represent the mind they had just proved to be dull to him compared to the Horned Serpents. A sudden slap on the back from what seemed to be a Gryffindor if he could place him anywhere had Rett recoiling from the touch, a small sneer coming over his face as he wiped Warren's germs off of him. "I'll let you believe that, sorry, what was your name? Jake?" He knew his name, but wanted to deflate someone who seemed to have a head big enough to make him struggle going through doors. His head swiveled and moved towards San, his eyes rolling at 'princess' but refusing to remark on it further. "Will do my loyal rook, this princess will deliver us to victory."

With that he flipped his wand around in his hand before taking the center position and preparing for victory.

Mars smiled wryly at Jack's taunts, forcing the second-hand embarrassment to morph itself into something more akin to playfulness. They watched with steely-eyes as a couple of the others on the Black Team responded to their teammates' taunts; that was good, they thought. If the two bigheaded fools on their side could worm their oh-so-wonderful personalities under the other team's skin, it would only help them win in the long run.

The picture of each their teammates was becoming clearer and clearer with every word. That small distaste for Rett still lingered in their mouth, but they put that aside for now, deciding it wouldn't help the team's cause. Unless he truly screwed them over, there was no need for hostility. Probably. Jack, though perhaps slightly too cocky, didn't actually seem too bad. Something of an infection nature maybe, like the friend you always have to get out of trouble but can't bring yourself to get rid of. They knew Dee, trusted her, and, in all honesty, were banking on her competitive nature to pull everyone through. As for Santario...

They couldn't help a smirk at her words. Oh, this one was fun.

Humming quietly, Mars stepped up to the bishop position, feeling the presence of their teammates beside them. Overall, it didn't seem like their chemistry was terrible. At least no one hated each other. Yet.

Out of the corner of their eye, they could see Rett in the Queen spot next to them. Without looking at him, they mentioned,

"I'd be careful, princess. I know you wanted to be Queen, but if your ego gets in the way of us protecting you, your pretty face might not look so hot anymore." That nickname would probably stick for the rest of the game. Looks like he'd have to get used to it.

Shifting their stance, Mars pulled out their wand and flashed a grin at the wizard in front of them. Time to win.

Interactions | Team White, @Adonis Thorn
Dee hopped over to her spot on the right side of the field and snorted at the banter going on within her team. The combined arrogance going on here was maybe a little worrying, but mostly hilarious. As long as their teamwork didn't suffer, she didn't mind - at least they wouldn't be boring. She offered a cheery wave to Adonis across the field - she was so going to set him on fire given the opportunity - then leaned forward to look at her companions from the side.

"To me, this princess looks too worried about his hair to object to being protected," she threw in after Mars' comment, then reached up to pat Jack's shoulder. "I hope you got something to back your taunts up," she said, a teasing glint in her eyes. "I know Mars can hold their own, and Santario seems competent, but we can't carry the whole team, you know? You seem too heavy to carry, anyway."

She changed her focus back to the people on the field across from them, her competitive spirit, the incessant urge to shine rising in her eyes, and gripped her wand firmly. She was going to win this.

Interaction with @Adonis Thorn and Jack's team

Honestly, Jack didn't mind the jab of being called a hero in a facetious way. In his heart of hearts, he just loved the idea of being a 'Lancelot' type. " Don't worry, Lass. I'm pretty hard to hit, so I'm basically like Neo from the Matrix. All I need is a black trench coat." Scratching the back of his head, Jack gave a hero's grin towards San, before hearing his best friend's name used as his own. "Oh, you got it wrong, it's Jack- don't you forget it, America." Another hearty pat followed his words upon the American's back. Then the words of a certain Slytherin caught his ear.

Slytherins. Of course, Adonis would go that low. Narrowing his eyes, Jack glared daggers at the pissant of a snake. Jack knew he was quick, and he could most likely avoid most of their pathetic attempt to hurt him. He refused to let Adonis get his goat. "At least I was brave enough to try to fight against the fire. From what I heard, all you snakes were crying over spiders. Plus, I doubt any of you, scaley freaks, actually tried to defend one another." A slight twinge of pain shot through the boy's abdomen as he continued to think about the all-enveloping darkness beneath the Hufflepuff common room. Subconsciously he let his left hand hover over his stomach before turning to walk to his spot right of his American friend. Before he could reach his position, his quiet teammate, Dee, clapped a hand on his shoulder and decided to share a few words. "Thankfully, I wouldn't talk if I couldn't back it up." He snorts while flippantly waving his hand "Plus America won't have to worry. I'll cover his back." With that, he gave a finger gun towards Rett then Santario before finding his place. With wand in hand, the Hufflepuff was ready.

The boy couldn't help himself, and Thomas burst out laughing at his teammate's comment on the Hufflepuff common room. It likely wasn't good practice, to get into the habit of mocking people for poorly timed fires considering the Ravenclaw's own experiences in the forest, but right about now smack talk felt good. He cast a wicked grin in the general direction of Jack Warren, before raising his wand and getting into position. Once the start was called, he leaped into action, wordless in hopes of catching the one who was in his sights unaware.

"We'll see about that, Brooks, we'll see about that...", Theodore said and turned to his team. "What a peacock." The young Thunderbird chuckled. Hearing Everett's team call him princess a minute later made him laugh even more. His friend was getting himself a reputation for sure...
He walked over to the rook position and looked at the girl across the field, right opposite him. Black hair, bright blue eyes. Probably around his age. He let his gaze wander over his other opponents.

Interacting with the Black Team
Disappointment and a healthy amount of nervous energy had enveloped Greta's features as her attempts to communicate were met largely with expressions of confusion by the rest of her team. On the plus side, at least she wasn't being shunned. In fact, one boy, Thomas, had gone so far as to perform an arguably over-elaborated miming performance for the purpose of introducing himself. This had the positive effect of sending Greta into a fit of stifled laughter, a closed fist raised to press against her lips in an effort to stem the tide.

Moments later, a boy had managed — in albeit somewhat broken German — to introduce himself. That it was heavily accented and stumbled over hardly mattered, though. [In German] "Yes! That's right!" she replied excitedly, face cracking into a beaming grin. [In German]"It is nice to meet you, Theodore!"

Before long, the game had been announced to start. Or so she assumed, anyway given how everyone started forward to claim a starting square. She wasn't sure if it had been discussed and determined ahead of time, but there was only one square she was interested in taking. With a self-satisfied smile, she hopped over to jump onto the Queen position. It was only appropriate. Pureblood, of good stock, the only girl in the team, and with a tendency to require a knightly escort at all times, she was fit for the crown. Although she would have rathered she be called Princess.

The interactions from across the way went largely over her head, but that didn't matter. It was the scrutinising gazes of a handful of them that caught her attention. Gooseflesh prickled her skin. Greta had little doubt in her own abilities as a witch. Durmstrang was well known to have the largest duelling hall of all of the magical educational institutes. She was no novice to that. But she hadn't faced anyone from outside her school and couldn't be certain they wouldn't have some sort of leg up on her. It was more than a little nerve-racking. And also exhilarating.

Shivering with excitement, she pulled a twisted vine wood wand from the depths of a pocket.
