Dear Procoppio | Cheers, E. Decipio

Delivery: Rolled, attached to the leg of a large and dignified barn owl
Dear Procoppio,
I suppose this will likely be the last letter of the summer then. I will admit, it's been rather nice having someone to write to over the break. I had been communicating regularly with Woodward for a time, but he has since gone quiet. I'm not sure if you know him at all? I imagine not actually…He's not in your house, or even in your year. Nevermind.
Anyway, I'm glad that you enjoyed the treats. I'll be sure to pass that along to my mother; she'll be delighted to hear that they were eaten up so enthusiastically. I hope Scout is okay, though? I don't think those would make the best treats for a toddler. They're pretty tacky and difficult to eat with just little teeth, I would think. Is the wizarding world really all that much worse than the muggle world though? I might have thought it would be more vegan friendly. The complaint I always hear about vegan foods is that they're often bland and not as flavourful. But that could be so easily addressed with magic to change the flavour, I would think.
And thank you about Janus. I don't think he minds being called pretty. I'm fairly certain he prefers the terms dignified and regal, but he's fairly narcissistic, so I think any complement is taken well by him. I'm glad he had been being polite for you, though. He's not always the most polite with Woodward. I've been told a few times that Janus can be quite abrasively rude about being let into the window and barely gives a moment to take letters from him before he hops off to visit with Woodward's owl. I think he likes her, though. Which is rather obnoxious since he can be a bit reluctant to come back to me once he's done a delivery. I've stopped sending him on trips to Woodward now for that reason.
I'm very much looking forward to school starting up again, though. Even moreso since the last time I wrote you. I'm hoping to get a few answers to some things. Perhaps level the playing field and get a fresh start with others with whom I got off on the wrong foot last year. I tried to get my mother to take me back to London to visit Diagon Alley early to pick up my new books so that I could get a head start, but she has thus far resisted. So I don't think I'll be there when you are at Diagon Alley, although I think she's planning to take us at least within the last few days of August. She's been very busy with work with the pandemic, and has been having some trouble getting time away. I can't fault her for it, of course, but I won't deny that I'm a bit disappointed. It seems a little bit rushed to me. Nevertheless, I don't think I'll be able to see you until the term starts up officially.
But now I have so many questions. A No-Maj, that's the American equivalent to a muggle, yes? That means your mother is a witch, then, I would gather? It seemed that way when you were talking about how she interacts with Evers. Is she pureblood? How did your parents meet? Were you raised to think that magic wasn't real? Is that why you know about electronics and the like? Or did she use magic in the household? What about now with you and your younger brother? Has he shown any signs of magic? Why did you move to London anyway? Do you think you would have rathered that you attended Ilvermorny?
Sorry, it's just… it's just myself and my mother at home, and she's a muggle. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to have a parent that knew about it all. It seems strange, too, to think of what will happen when we actually finish school and have grown up. Where we're going to go and what we're going to do. Do you know much about all of that? How you even get started with it all? I suppose choosing your classes in third year is a start. You said that you picked CoMC and Muggle Studies? What did you take the Muggle Studies for? And what is it that you want to be when you've grown up?
Well, I suppose I should wrap this up. It's getting late out and Janus is seeming perturbed that I haven't let him out to hunt yet. Best of luck with your shopping (you might already have that done by the time you get this letter, actually), and perhaps I'll see you on the train. If not, feel free to meet me on the pitch in the mornings. I'm sure to be there just about every day before breakfast.
Kind regards,
Decipio
p.s. The camera girl, are you talking about Santario?

Dear Procoppio | Cheers, E. Decipio
Date: September 1st, 2020
Addressed to: Evelynn @Evelynn Decipio
Delivery: Aggressively handed to recipient on the train
Evelynn-
Sorry this is so late but you were very right your letter is probably the last one TBD (to be delivered) by owl this summer. Wouldn't it be funny if I just handed this to you on the train? Haha! But no I do not know Woodward. Sad he stopped talking to you though (but that's some seriously hot tea that I think is very important.) You were right again! Your so right all the time. It's craaaazy.
I'm actually writing this in the car to the train station. I think its stupid that Hogwarts still makes us take the train to and from the school because like hello? Carbon emissions and climate change? Greta Thunberg is SHAKING right now. Bill Nye the Science Guy would be very disappointed in Godric Gryffindor I think if he saw how they get us to the school every year. But yeah I don't think I will finish this letter in time before I give it to you because there is no way that Evers will actually be able to fly this to you either. Let me see if I can answer some of your questions though while we wait in this very stupid and terrible traffic.
1. Yes No-Majs are American muggles.
2. Yes my mom is a witch (in more ways then one, HAH!)
3. Yes my mom is super pureblood. I think that's why she won't let me talk to her parents a lot.
4. My dad went and got himself shot at in the Middle East and my mom patched him up. I hope they didn't kiss in the hospital. That would be disgusting.
5. Didn't know magic existed until I was 10
6. Yes
7. Only after I got my Hogwarts letter.
8. I don't know. Mom still lives in a very No-Maj apartment because she kind of stepped away from the magic world when she married Dad. So she can't use too much magic otherwise the microwave will probably explode.
9. Not yet, unless being a drooling baby counts as being magical
10. To go to Hogwarts I think. [I don't know, this is what we call a loophole created by a middle schooler who didn't think through the logistics properly]
11. No. They SUCK. Hogwarts 4ever.
Some extra comments. I mean my mom definitely knew what was going on but I kind of wish she had told me more before I got the letter. Like I didn't really like being left in the dark for that long you know? But I guess she thought it was what was best for me. You know to be a normal kid with a normal life. BUT HAH BOY WAS SHE WRONG.
12. No I have no idea about life after Hogwarts. I'm just gonna take it one day at a time, you know?
13. I did say that and that is what I picked yes
14. Easy O. My grades suck.
15. I don't know. I don't like thinking about it. Its a little bit too scary for me you know? I always thought when I was a kid that I would join the Army like my Dad and all his family but I can't really do that with Hogwarts. I mean I'm learning so much more than to shoot a gun at someone. So I don't know anymore. I still might enlist for a few years just so I can buy some time to figure it out.
LOOK AT THAT, I finished before we got to the station! Man this traffic really sucks. I'll go find you out on the pitch then so you can teach me how to use a beater bat properly. I'm so excited to try out for the team now! I really have you to thank for that then. When Hufflepuff wins the cup again I'll be sure to thank you for your genius idea. THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST YEAR EVER!!!!!!!
PPS I think so
The letter was hastily shoved at Evelynn when the two encountered one another on the Hogwarts Express. Their communications with one another via letters would then cease during the school year, as they could easily seek out one another in person. Thus, this thread is finished.
