Passing Time
Lucy was pleased that Vincent went first. He seemed a bit shy, so she found it especially gratifying that he stepped up. Her eyebrows creased in confusion when she heard his suggestion. He'll try Lumos and I'll try Nox? I don't think I can extinguish his wand... I thought that was just for extinguishing your own light. Woah! Was I not paying attention? ... Well, I guess I can try it.
Lucy grinned with glee when Vincent successfully illuminated his wand, but it faded almost instantly. He's not saying it with enough confidence, she though immediately, before toeing the ground. Now, Loos, you're not perfect either. Just wait - he's just warming up. Sure enough, his wand lit up again, bright in the shade of the tree. Though the light pulsed, it had almost an endearing quality. Lucy jumped up and down in place, clapping her hands and cheering.
"Woohoo! Nice job, Vincent! ... I don't think I can put out your light, but I guess it's worth a shot?" she hesitated, shrugging. She wasn't usually uncertain about things, so this shook her a tiny bit. What could go wrong? she asked herself, trying to think it through. She gave up, not knowing enough about magic, and decided that it was best just to try it. Vincent had so willingly conjured up his light, so she should have the decency to do her part!
"Well, here goes nothing!" She grinned, pulling her wand up to shoulder height and extending her arm straight out. "Nox!" she enunciated loudly - a bit too loud, really, but she was subconsciously overcompensating for Vincent's timid lighting of Lumos. Nothing happened. She frowned, concentrating on the bright light that pulsed slowly. It was almost hypnotic. "Nox," she said again, this time softer. Still, nothing happened.
"Sorry," she started, shrugging. "I don't know if it's me, or if you really can't put out someone else's wand. Hm. Maybe you should try mine?" She squared her shoulders and spread her feet to shoulder width, assuming a power stance. She traced a loop-de-loop in the air while clearly enunciating, "Lumos."
The wand glowed softly. She frowned, shaking it a little. The wand responded by dimming further. "Is this about my comment about you earlier? It's not my fault you're ugly," she growled at it, imagining the light glowing brighter. As if in response, the wand grew hot as the light turned from white to scarlet as the spell grew much too hot. "Augh!" she yelled, dropping her wand. It smoked in the grass, still lit.
"Ah crap!" she yelled, stomping on it instinctively. Nothing happened. She looked at Vincent, panicked. She didn't know how to extinguish her wand without her wand in her hand - she didn't even know if she could. But, based off of her experiment on Vincent, he couldn't do it for her, either. "Nox!" she yelled, panicking as the smoke increased. "Nox," she said more firmly, but nothing happened.
Suddenly inspired, she dropped to her stomach. She would have to time this well. "Nox," she said, right as she touched her pinky to the wand. It extinguished immediately, and she jerked her hand back. Her pinky was burned, but her wand looked okay. It was probably still too hot to touch, so she pulled herself up to her feet, popping her pinky in her mouth.

I looked up whether or not another wizard could put out someone else's wand, but I didn't get a clear answer, so I based my best guess off of this link. It seemed like they could only put out their own light.
I based the extreme wand reaction to Lumos on the Effects category here.
Sorry it took me so long to respond! I had a busy week.

Vincent’s face coloured a deep red when he realised that it really isn’t her problem, in fact he seems to have made a mistake, he realized as he stared wide-eyed at the proceeding in front of him. At first he was about to raise his wand to try, and when the light from the wand turned scarlet he knew that he really needs to try something but despite his frantic casting and attempting to cast ‘Nox’ onto Lucy’s wand, only his extinguished but Lucy’s wand is still glowing a bright red.
Panic churned in his stomach, and he racked his brain for a charm, a spell, or anything that would extinguish the light but came up blank; though it turns out that he didn’t need to after all when Lucy dropped down to her stomach and extinguished the light with a ‘Nox’ the moment she touched her pinky to her wand.
Vincent felt his legs turn weak for a moment there; it could have gone way worse, in fact, her wand could very well have caught on fire or perhaps she could have gotten a far worse injury than a singed pinky and all of this could have been avoided if he could remember what is Nox actually meant for-
“I-I-I am sorry!” He exclaimed once he shook himself out of his stupor and shuffled towards her, awkwardly checking her fingers to make sure it isn’t burnt too badly, “I-uh, I forgot that-that Nox is o-only meant for-um, for the caster to ex-tinguish their own...sorry…” He trailed off into a mutter, looking at her apologetically.
“Is-is your finger okay? Do you need to go to the medi-wing?” He asked dizzyly, barely even noticing that he is in fact overreacting. Several moments of fretting later, he managed to take a deep breath once the nervous energy bled out of him.
“...Maybe practicing charms…can be kind of dangerous….” He managed a shaky smile to cover up his embarrassment, “Um, do you want to continue? I mean...I kind of want to...try it again” He asked meekly, gesturing towards their wands. While casting magic is indeed incredibly fun, and he admits, rather exciting; Vincent honestly rather not get anyone hurt because he is being childish.
After a moment of thought, he added, "Also...you must be really powerful then. I don't think I've ever made my wand go...well, that." He was mentioning how her wand had turned scarlet and burned to touch. While saying that, Vincent absentmindedly fiddled with his wand before looking down at it.
"I-can I try one more time?" He muttered, unsure if he is actually asking Lucy or asking the wand; perhaps the wand has a conscience? After all, Ollivander did say that it is the wand that chooses the wizard...
"Lumos" He went over the practiced movement after taking several calming breaths, and this time it took a longer time but it turned brighter steadily as time passed by and while it is not as bright as his second attempt, instead of spluttering and flickering, this time it only pulsed steadily on the tip of his wand.
A bright smile lit up on his face, and he could barely contain his giddiness when he rushed through the wand movement for the extinguishing spell.
"Nox" He was probably a bit too rushed, and the movement wasn't as concise or steady as he hoped it to be when the light on the tip of his wand fizzled away instead of going out immediately.

Lucy grinned, pinky still in her mouth, amused at Vincent's reaction. She could start to predict how he would respond to things, which she liked about people. If she knew how they would respond, she could know how to approach a situation without worry or care. Not that she put a lot of worry or care into most situations anyway. Still, it did help when she could start to figure out someone's personality.
"Thanks for trying, anyway," she smiled, gesturing to the wand. "Nah, my pinky's good. Just a little tender. Nothing to go bother... um, whomever runs the hospital ward about." She frowned, bothered that she couldn't recall just who was in charge in that part of the castle. She bobbed her head when he mentioned that magic could be dangerous. Now that was something that she heard her father say a lot as she was growing up!
“Um, do you want to continue? I mean...I kind of want to...try it again.”
She sat back on her rear, kicking her feet in front of her. She wasn't quite ready to pick up her wand yet - she didn't want to get burned again - but she was more than content to watch him. At his continued confidence, she tore her pinky out of her mouth with a pop and clapped her hands, cheering.
"Good job, Vincent! That was great!" she paused, considering his words about power as if she had just registered them. "I don't think I'm more powerful than anyone else. Right before that happened, I, uh, insulted my wand. Maybe it was getting back at me. I don't know if that's a thing, but it sure felt like it was!"
She glanced over at her wand, her curiosity piqued. She scooted over to it in a crab-walk fashion and tentatively reached out a hand. It was now quite cool. "I'm just lucky it didn't catch on fire or anything. I've heard that can happen. That would have been embarrassing. Would Ollivander sell you another wand if that happened? I doubt it. He seems like he believes a wand-witch pairing is for life."
She stood up, wand in hand again. She marveled at how long it was - nearly a foot - and shook her head. "Okay, okay," she muttered, her cheeks tinging a bit, "I'm sorry. You're not ugly. You're just... ah..." she searched for the right word, wanting to be truthful, "unique."

When Vincent finally extinguished the spell; his arm was trembling; he immediately let it drop to his side in an attempt to hide it. It is just a simple Lumos and Nox! Why is he so anxious over something so...simple? Vincent suppressed a frustrated sigh and turned towards Lucy instead.
However, despite his thoughts, he couldn’t deny the exhilaration that rushed through him when he managed to light up his wand and extinguish the light-essentially casting two spells in under...several minutes?
The fact that he has succeeded in doing so, made him want to try it again, and more; but he dare not do it. What if Lucy thinks he is showing off? He bit down on his lower lip, briefly recalling how many children yelled at him for being a ‘show-off’ when he brought the novel his father had got for him to read.
Immediately after, his attention was drew away from that particular incident as he felt his eyebrows raise in curiousity when Lucy began speaking to her wand. Sure, he had briefly entertained the idea that the wand could be sentient-after all, wouldn’t that be simply so cool? But looking at Lucy’s wand, he felt himself believing in that idea more; it does seem temperamental compared to his, or it could just be the fact that Lucy has a more vibrant personality than him, Vincent didn’t know.
Vincent felt the corner of his lips quirk up at how she apologized to the wand as if it is a person- it is…cute, he decided with amusement when he noted how her cheeks suddenly turned reddish as she hesitated.
”Unique.” That was the word she had decided on, and Vincent couldn’t help but add on.
“A-and it looks really durable a-a-as well!” He grinned, before shuffling closer to Lucy and whispering conspicuously to her, bringing up his right hand near his mouth. “M-maybe if we compliment your wand more, it will let you do more…awesome spells?”
He barely waited for her to give her response, his blood thrumming with excitement and a giddiness from two successful spells and just talking to someone in general. Bending down slightly at his waist, giggling, “Besides that-you-you look really, really powerful! A-and...um, straightforward?”
As if suddenly realising how ridiculous he is being, he immediately straightened back up, feeling a heat rush up his face, “S-sorry, was just-ah, um...I don’t know haha…” He trailed off, scratching his cheek sheepishly.

"A-and it looks really durable a-a-as well!”
Lucy jumped slightly, turning to look at Vincent with a questioning gaze. She did not anticipate him joining in, so she was taken off guard when he started complimenting her wand. Her cheeks tinged pink again as he got closer to her, whispering to her so that her... wand? couldn't hear. “M-maybe if we compliment your wand more, it will let you do more…awesome spells?”
Lucy's eyes twinkled and she nodded at him. She was growing quite fond of his willingness to jump in with both feet and just go along with whatever was happening in the moment. It was reassuring and empowering - she couldn't imagine what she would have done if he had mocked her for talking to her wand instead. A swell rose in her chest, and she felt the familiar warmth of forging a bond of friendship with someone who had compatible quirkiness.
As he bent down to sweet talk her wand, she moved her hand jerkily and assumed the deepest voice she could muster. "Are you trying to butter me up?" she growled, clearly trying to assume a male voice. She jerked her wand hand again, bringing it closer to Vincent. "Because it is working!" She could no longer keep the deep growl, and her voice cracked higher on the last syllable of "working." She fell into a giggle fit, putting her wand in her pocket.
"Well," she said in her normal voice, clearing her throat after talking so low. "If my wand does have a conscience, whatever we might have gained by flattering it I'm pretty sure I lost again by giving it that voice. But it is a VERY IMPRESSIVE WAND." She overexaggerated each word, raising her eyebrows and smiling a secretive smile. It was obvious that she was still playing the flattery game, despite the fact that the wand probably did not have a conscious at all. She winked at Vincent and then pocketed her wand, giving it two pats.
"So, wizard extraordinaire, what do you want to do next?" She gestured to him as she proclaimed his title, and her characteristic smile grew on her face. "After all, you have already mastered Lumos and Nox. I saw that second try - you did great!"
No problem! Take your time. Real life comes first ^-^ Lucy will be here after you rock your exams!

At first Vincent had startled-because, did the wand really respond? and if so it sounds awfully like Lucy but only half a moment later did his mind catch up to what is happening and his cheek immediately tinged pink in response.
He glared up at Lucy without any heat; only amusement glittering in his eyes as he struggled to keep the grin off his face, not noticing that in his attempt to keep his face from erupting into a silly grin-from being silly with someone of his age-the corner of his lips curled up awkwardly and it only served to make him look more ridiculous before he succumbed to it.
"Hehehe...," He run his hand through the hair at the back of his head, " I am just being silly..." He trailed off, laughing nervously. Though, he couldn't help the grin that stayed on his face when she played along instead, before pocketing her wand and giving it several pats-as if it really had a conscience.
Vincent started however, when she called him 'wizard extraordinaire'; though he knew that it is a joke, he couldn't help but instinctively glance down bashfully before forcing himself to look up again.
"That is just-I mean, thank you," Smiling at her; feeling somewhat bad at that. After all, he wouldn't want to seem like he is just showing off. "But, um, I-I don't know? Your Lumos is pretty great, as well as-as Nox so-uh," He found himself at a loss of words all of a sudden, unsure of what to say.
"T-that's all the spell I know t-to be honest..." He murmured, looking at her while scratching his jaw, "Do you know any other spells? O-or maybe we can, um, I don't know...ask the teacher?"
To him, that doesn't sound too good; asking a teacher that is. After all, Vincent was never one to speak up in any situation when surrounded with his peers, let alone to a teacher-he would have to replace his heart with a dragon's to even have the bravery of facing their Charms teacher-not to mention with the stunt the wizard had pulled in their first class...
How do you find a teacher anyways?
Vincent gave a half hearted shrug, before letting out a soft hum, "I don't know? Maybe we can study? Since we are both Hufflepuffs, we can always meet in the common room...or maybe just...I don't know, walk around I guess? If you want to try Lumos and Nox again, that's good too."

I'm so sorry for my untimely reply. My tardiness is inexcusable. My life is rather hectic right now, and I expect it to remain so until school gets out in June. Would you mind terribly if we closed this RP and picked up again in another forum some time later on? That way we'll find a sense of finality but with open possibilities. I just can't get on as often as I need to continue regularly at the moment.
"...Maybe we can, um, I don't know...ask the teacher?" Vincent suggested. Lucy squinted, analysing his face. She couldn't be sure, but he didn't seem like he actually wanted to do this. Strange. Why would someone suggest something they didn't even want to do in the first place? She shrugged, smiling encouragingly, waiting for more ideas to come forth. She found that if she just waited a little bit, he said more than if she jumped in and cut him off.
"Walking around is good!" she chirped back, latching on to that idea. She didn't want to study when it was such a beautiful day. "But wait," she continued, her face falling, "I have to go back to the common room and get my books for class. I forgot I had another one before being done with the day. I'm glad I didn't forget completely! That would be so embarrassing!"
Perking up at the fact that she could have done worse than remembering she had class, she grinned and Vincent and flipped her hair out of her eyes. "Hey, want to walk with me back to the common room? It's fun that we're both Hufflepuffs. That way we can basically go wherever, whenever!" Her smile broadened, and she offered the crook of her elbow as it to escort him across the lawn. "So, are you game?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.
IF VINCENT ACCEPTS:
Lucy strolled across the green lawn, satisfied at the new friend tucked into the crook of her arm. Though she was disappointed that their adventures had to momentarily end, she knew there would be many more in the future.
IF VINCENT DECLINES:
Either way, Lucy exits the RP.Lucy mock-pouted, dropping her arm. "Aw, well, okay," she sighed, not looking forward to the walk back by herself. "No problem! I'll see you around, anyway," she smiled, showing that there were no hard feelings. She began to walk across the lawn by herself, thinking about everything she had to do in the short time before class started.

"Books for class..." Vincent suddenly felt a chill rush down his spine; that's right, he had classes! He had completely forgotten about his classes-in fact, he had only wanted to take a quick break but he had gotten distracted-well, he had made a new friend and practiced some spells, so that does make the situation better, surely?
Vincent let out a yelp, "Class! I've c-c-completely forgotten about that-yeah, l-et's go back to the common rooms first!" He exclaimed surprisingly loudly, glancing around frantically and pushing up his sleeve for the watch that wasn't there. Dread immediately began pooling in him, "I can't believe I've forgotten about it..." He murmured frantically, "Uh-what time is it?"
Realizing that he has no way of checking the time, Vincent could only shoot a glance up at the sky and attempt to calm himself-seeing as Lucy is so calm, they surely aren't late to class right? That would be humiliating, Vincent thought, clamping his mouth shut as he doesn't trust himself to not become either a blubbering mess or say something he doesn't mean in his mild panic.
He immediately followed after Lucy when he noticed that he has been stuck in his thoughts for too long, jogging slightly to catch up to the blonde haired girl.

Stress-that's me. Procrastination, that is also me.
