Time Spent
The change in Flash’s demeanor had an instant effect. Ruka took a step back, looking frightened, if Flash was reading his face correctly. He muttered Flash’s name and inched his hand closer, but stopped himself from whatever he had planned to do with it. Instead, he tapped. Again, like that night. Flash was making him nervous, he guessed. Not that different than the usual, then. A moment ago Flash could have felt disheartened that he could be the cause of something negative, painful. Now, he only watched on with vacant eyes, tracking the data.
Balling his own hand as if trying to show restraint, Ruka spoke up after only a brief moment of considering the situation. Stepping back again, his eyes looking over Flash as if there was anything he could decipher by looking. There wasn’t, only his smile. The rest of his body had become more lax with the advent of removing himself from the scene. He would be watching, he would be learning, he said. Sure. Flash could only wonder what was going through Ruka’s mind, and instead of agonizing over it, he would just let him do as he liked. As he said before, he always did anyway. Flash had been a fool for trying to affect his mood. He didn’t have anything to bargain with, as he thought he had. Again.
Then, Ruka changed course, stepping up to face Flash, forcing him to push himself up more tightly against the wall as a gut reaction. His heart instinctively fluttered to be approached, even though he knew it wasn’t out of a desire to be closer. It wasn’t as though he feared being hurt, he was sure he could take anything Ruka could think to dish out, as long as it wasn’t another kiss. That would have destroyed him completely.
He waited for Ruka to spit out a warning, an odious reminder that Ruka was oblivious to Flash’s feelings, before he picked up his things and left. Flash watched listlessly as Ruka retreated into the distance, waiting to hear his footsteps grow further away as he left his field of vision. A short time after that, he let the weight of his body slide down the wall and heap into a pile on the floor. He was completely alone, so it didn’t matter how pathetic he looked. He stared at the vaulted ceiling, feeling like nothing more than a bag of bones. His back was cold now, he would eventually have to get up and go to his wretched dorm room, where he could stay cold all night. Until he got the motivation to move, he would just stay perfectly still.
It could have gone better.
