Tales of Fire
"Oh-," he would hum softly in response as he tried to visualize what Ruka had just explained to him and nodded slowly as if to communicate that he had understood. "I g-guess it w-will m-make more sense wh-when I see it for m-myself," he finally concluded with a light grin playing on his lips as he finished his words with a determined nod. He would go to the show and see it happen, since he was really curious about fire dancing now! It did sound pretty dangerous though but perhaps it was safer than it sounded.
He was surprised by the second years next words as they sounded oddly wise as if an adult could have told him those same exact words. He was sure it was something that Professor Vernatis would possibly say in a lecture about something like that. Bu before Alan could follow that trail of thoughts he shook his head as if to get rid off them and glanced at Ruka. He honestly had no idea how to respond to such a smart sentence and decided to simply shrug helplessly. "W-Well I have a l-lot of small talents a-and I'm very g-good w-with animals so th-that I even c-caught a Niffler o-once!", he explained proudly and hoped that it would impress the other student perhaps.
"I-It does s-sound kinda n-nice," he agreed with a soft smile as he felt happy for the younger kid. Jack was not so bad after all, at least not for Ruka or so it seemed.

It was quite obvious that Alan was having issues imagining exactly what Ruka was talking about but he relented by saying that he would just see for himself at the Talent Show, which was fair enough. Some things just needed to be seen to be understood and clearly Fire Dance was one of those things for Alan. Ruka was sure there were things that seemed completely normal to the other boy but were difficult to imagine for himself as well, so he had no place to judge.
Ruka's next words were met by a shrug and an expression on Alan's face like he wasn't quite sure how to respond, which was strange. It wasn't like Ruka had said anything out of the ordinary, had he? Pointing out that everyone had a talent whether they recognised it as one or not was not a difficult observation, but it seemed to throw Alan for a loop anyway. At least he eventually admitted to having a few smaller talents, which was something at least.
Only his mention of having been able to catch a Niffler once made Ruka pull a grimace of discontent. Having grown up surrounded by nature, Ruka had never been much of a supporter of taking animals out of their natural habitat unless strictly necessary, so Alan's words about how he had caught a creature, even if only to be released again, didn't strike the right chords with him. Aside from that, Ruka had read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them multiple times over, and he thought to have remembered a bit about Nifflers. "Don't you just have to, like, wave around a gold coin or something in front of a Niffler for them to come running?" he asked with a small frown on his face before letting out an amused chuckle. "That doesn't make it sound like you're good with animals, it makes it sound like you were carrying an excessive amount of bling that day." Hiding the rest of his laughter behind the palm of his hand, Ruka shrugged his shoulders. There was probably a reason for why Alan was proud of having caught a Niffler so he didn't want to question it any further than that.
Instead he glanced around the Great Hall again, Alan's next words barely registering to him as he finally spotted a familiar head of red hair by the Slytherin table. Renewed excitement coursed through him and with a spark of energy he got off his seat to wave enthusiastically in Jack's direction to get the Slytherin's attention. "There he is," he said brightly before turning back to Alan with a wide smile. "I better be off then," he told his fellow Gryffindor, practically buzzing with excitement. "Get some more practice in before classes." With a small chuckle, Ruka slowly moved backwards. "I'll see you at the Talent Show, though, right? Even just in the audience? It'll be fun for sure." With those words he turned around to skip in the direction of the Slytherin table, a bounce in his step as he approached the person he was looking for.
One last time he turned around to shoot Alan a bright smile and a wave before dedicating the rest of his day to classes and practice.

Tales of Fire
Alan would roll his eyes and try to explain that this was not all. But he was not sure whether the other kid would even listen to his explanations as he did seem quite busy and was waiting for Jack to arrive so possibly the focus of attention was not even on the third year. Perhaps Ruka also did not know all that much about creatures but Alan had no idea about that part, so he would not want to make this an assumption. Soon enough Jack would appear and Alan would wish the second year good luck before he continued with his food. There was not all too much left of it anyway however now that Ruka was gone the third year could spend his time eating the food without being distracted by anyone. Not that he would mind distractions but he had to eat so that was more or less important to do. Alan surely hoped that he would gain another chance to chat with Ruka soon but he assumed that would be during the talent show at the latest! He could not wait to see him and Jack and all of his other friends perform that day.
