A Spectacle

The game that would define which house has won the cup for the year, the stadium was packed with interested onlookers. This would be the Hufflepuff v Ravenclaw game and while Hufflepuff might be considered the favored House in this game as they won two games already, if Ravenclaw secures this win it is very likely that they would earn the Quidditch Cup. There would be something different about this game of course, it was being narrated by Lazarus Plott rather than Solomon Lear. Players from both houses would filter out onto the field, the game was about to start!
It was a sunny, warm day. The sort of day where walking a game outdoors would actually be pleasant. A long sleeved shirt was enough to fend off the chill of the day, those that were warm blooded did not even require that. After the past few months, between Potter's conviction, an army of spiders attacking Slytherin while they slept, as well as seemingly random acts of violence, what this school was in sore need of was a nice game of Quidditch.
The most anticipated match of the year, the victor here may very well define who wins the Quidditch Cup. Fans for every conceivable outcome would be sitting in the stands...
This is a spectator thread for users that are not in the Hufflepuff v Ravenclaw Quidditch game but wish to in character watch the game. When you spectate, you cannot intervene in the game that is ongoing but you can react to the game, interface with other players in this thread and simply enjoy yourselves.

A Spectacle
Even though he had Opeila’s party to worry about in the evening, there was something he was looking forward to before that-- Willow’s quidditch match. He found himself in the peculiar situation of having known about it and been excited for a long time, but only yesterday been plunged into the murky waters of ended friendships. The face she made at him as she told him what a horrible person he was-- it was scarred into his memory. Ever since then he had been in a state of constant turmoil, unable to keep calm for more than a few short moments.
He was afraid that in no time at all, he would be completely alone again. In a dark, locked room with only his thoughts to keep him company. He felt like he never left the room to begin with, and was only screaming through the door, asking someone to let him out.
He still wanted to see her play, with all his heart. It was her first game, and she was nervous about flying, and doing a good job for her house. She was very dependable and tough, so he had mused about what a good position Keeper had been for her. He wanted to watch and make sure everything went alright. Even if she never wanted to see him again, he still needed to know she was okay. That she didn’t get hurt too badly. He had heard plenty of buzz about how much this match meant for Hufflepuffs, and Willow was the Hufflest Puff of them all. He knew it would mean so much to her, as well.
Flash at least had enough presence of mind to know he shouldn’t go alone. He was starting to be more well known around school, so he didn’t want to be approached by random people in the stands for conversations, especially since they would likely be asking why he was cheering for the Hufflepuffs in a game that his house had no stake in whatsoever. He also wanted someone who would go and talk to Willow if he needed someone to check on her. There was a very clear answer in Alan Vanes. Alan was a kind soul, and often went along with whatever Flash asked him to do. Even though his house was also not involved in the game, he imagined Alan would accept his invitation to join him by owl.
He waited by the entrance to the stands, getting the occasionally surprised hello as a sea of yellow filtered in. He didn’t want to go in with Alan beside him, even though the two of them were sure to stick out as an odd pair. He needed someone around he knew to keep him from losing his composure.

@Flash Holmwood
The third year had been done decorating some marzipan, which had took place in the early afternoon and was now ready to go and meet Flash. He had recently received the owl from the taller, yet younger Slytherin and had been caught off guard by it. He had been in the grat hall meeting some new and known people, when one of the school owls swooped in through one of the ceiling openings and dropped off a letter for him.
It had been by Flash, a boy he had seen a few times and who seemed to be quite pleasant to talk to. He had not received an owl from the boy before however and generally was not one to receive owls often. The only person he had recently got owls from was @George Henry; a Hufflepuff he had met first over the winter and who had been relying on Alan to choose a pet from the Magical Menagerie. The Slytherin had requested him to accompany him to the Quidditch match and Alan saw no reason why he would not go, especially once he found out that @Willow Anderson would participate in the game and not only she would, but also other friends he had, like Quinn for example. On the other hand there were also Ravenclaws he would love to cheer for; after all there would be Neculai, who was the co-captain of the Ravenclaw team if he remembered correctly. He had been of great help to the third year, so Alan thought it would only be fair to cheer for him too.
So as he made his way towards the entrance of the Hufflepuff stands, he caught sight of Flash, who seemed to be waiting for him. The Gryffindor had no idea, that the other boy was interested in Quidditch or maybe he was like Alan and was not directly interested in the game and only wanted to be there as some sort of moral support for a friend or friends... Flash seemed to be the person to be doing that sort of thing; after all he had been so insisting on Alan giving himself some credit for saving him from a worse fate, when Flash had been targeted by the mosps. Done with speculations, Alan smiled at Flash, once he had been noticed as well and quickened his pace a little, until he had reached the first year and nodded to him as a greeting.
"H-Hi Flash, nice to s-see you again, you;are cheering for H-Hufflepuff?", he asked curiously, as soon as he had greeted the boy. Alan did not stop by his side, because the two of them would need to hurry, if they wanted to have spots with a great view on the game and Alan supposed that was why the Slytherin was here, because he wanted to see the game or a person in the game; whatever it was, they would need good spots so their cheers could be heard.

Unlike the previous Quidditch matches, in which the decision of whether or not to spectate had depended heavily upon the homework that was soon due and other obligations Thora wanted to stay faithful to, this one was completely different. For once, the very committed girl put aside everything, her tests, her homework, to take the now-familiar path to the Quidditch Pitch. But instead of mounting her Nimbus (or other people's if they'd ever let her) or taking her second string seat on the far left of the front bench, the small girl began climbing the stairs towards the crowd that had already gathered in anticipation of the soon-beginning game.
Why was she here? It was simple. Thora had friends on each team, which was saying a lot since seeking out and befriending people did not at all come easy to her. Simply spectating to support her friends was enough of an explanation, but the underlying reason was the Quidditch Cup.
The Slytherins were relatively low in the standings based on the matches earlier in the year, having scored fewer points than both Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, but their own match versus the lions was their chance to redeem themselves. They could possibly even take the season's champion title, provided two things. First, that they played well--which Thora was absolutely positive they would. The second was a bit more complicated, and the gist of it was that if the sneks won [assuming that we do not yet have the results of the match], they could only truly be at the top if they scored more than Ravenclaw in their match, and that the Eagles were able to defeat Hufflepuff.
Thora was a girl of logic, and despite the fact that she was perfectly aware of the work awaiting her and she'd recently been swamped by anxiety about a thousand things otherwise, it was these thoughts that were endlessly circling her brain, working her into a hopeful, bright-eyed, yet nervous spectator. These matches would affect everyone…
Now, onto what she'd actually come for. It was always difficult for Thora to choose a house to support other than her own, especially when from a competitive standpoint, she didn't want either team to win. So, wrapped in her very obviously Slytherin robes and scarf among a sea of yellow and deep blue, she tried to ignore the people who were very likely staring at her, instead focusing on scanning the field for her friends.
"Good luck, Saskia, good luck, Ru," Thora called out. If she could barely recognise them from her perch, they probably couldn't even see her, let alone hear her small voice. But it would all be worth it. They'd been there for her when she needed them, so the least she could do was to cheer them on in a sport they all loved. That said, it wasn't like they needed luck, with their raw talent, nerves, and all of that, but what else was she to say?
Thora tried her best to relax as she bit her lip and nervously twisted a handful of windblown brown hair. Even though the stakes were high and it was hard for her not to obsess over the way this game's results would affect her own beloved team, she would try to enjoy the game. Because after all, both teams had their fair share of talent, skill, and luck. This was sure to be interesting.

Mildred quickly ran towards where the Hufflepuffs would be stationed although it was a tad hard with the items she was carrying- with one hand she held a rolled-up banner she made and on the other, a cupcake in a box. Previously, she was located at the Great Hall decorating cupcakes for the new errand when it had dawned on her that- today was Willow's first-ever Quidditch match and she knew she had to be there to cheer on her friend.
Mildred knew how high the stakes were for this game as it would most likely decide who would be winning the house cup, She also knew just how hard her fellow puffs were working on towards the cup and her house team wouldn't disappoint- wheater they lose or win, she knew they gave it their best.
She unrolled her banner and winced, she had quickly made it in a rush when she realized she was running low on time. It wrote a simple, "Go willow!!" with a few flowers here and there. The flowers were meant to symbolize willow as they both roomed together in the plant dorm, and it was also meant for the other Hufflepuff players on the team as well, many often symbolized plants with Hufflepuff. She also drew a few random things to make the banner look nicer. Lastly, she took a leftover cupcake she decorated- she guessed that Willow would be hungry when they were done, plus it was a small "congrats on your first ever match" kind of gift.
Mildred scanned the section and saw a few students who weren't in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, which was strange but she decided that was another matter for another day, today she wanted to focus on Willow and the rest of the team. She tried her best to reach towards the very front- it was hard due to the mass amounts of students there. Mildred wasn't as close as she wanted towards the front although this wouldn't stop her in supporting her friend, she waved around her banner and tried her very best to make her voice loud and yelled out "GO WILLOW!!!" - she knew that she might have looked a tad crazy, waving around a piece of paper and having a random cupcake near her although she didn't care as well, she was just here to support willow in the end. she knew that the pitch was terribly loud and willow probably couldn't hear her- although that was okay in the end, as she still wanted to support Willow no matter what- whether she knew or not.
Banner *waves this around like crazy, gooo willow!!*

Alan arrived on time, as Flash had expected when he didn’t receive an owl telling him the meeting was off. He knew Alan to be someone who followed common courtesy, so he was sure to add the stipulation of sending forward an answer if he didn’t intended to come. It was formalities like that which made Flash feel comfortable, and why Alan was such an apt companion for the evening.
Not that he intended to spill his heart out. He didn’t know what to expect of Alan’s reaction to his current state. He figured he would be polite. He tried to at least match the mood of the other attendees, to the degree he could manage.
A weak smile.
”Alan, thank you for joining me. I hope you don’t object to the team I’ve chosen?” Flash tried to play it off, but he knew his current act wasn’t very convincing. ”Pardon my mood, I’m hoping the match might lift my spirits.”
Excusing it himself before Alan could have a chance to call him out, Flash ushered him into the stands, where they found a seat somewhere in the back. Flash didn’t have to worry about seeing over most of the kids’ heads, so he usually elected to sit where he couldn’t block anyone’s view when in seating arrangements. His sudden growth spurt after turning 10 had brought along a fresh slew of considerations to make.
Shortly after the rest of the stands filled in, the players started to file into their positions. Flash watched with anticipation, feeling somehow as if he was doing something he wasn’t supposed to. He wondered if Willow would have been upset that he came. It was too late to consider it, but the uneasiness still churned inside of him.
Nearby, an enthusiastic young Hufflepuff cheered for Willow as she got on the field. She even had a handcrafted sign. Seeing it, he inadvertantly lifted the corners of his mouth into a contented smile. He was grateful that Willow had other people who cared about her, though he wasn’t surprised.

The third year smiled lightly at the Slytherin, but frowned when he noticed that the other was not looking as happy as he first assumed. He might have kept silent about it, or asked the other kid if he was okay; he was not sure what he would have done, because before this could have happened, Flash apologized for not being in the best mood that day. Alan's features softened slightly, as he shook his head lightly at the other kid. "I h-hope it will, bu-but it's okay to be down s-sometimes and I'm s-sure whatever is b-bothering you, it will get better s-soon...", he tried to reassured the Slytherin, hoping that the other kid would feel a bit better. If not now, maybe later. Maybe the Slytherin just needed some company, after all he had reached out to Alan quite spontaneously. Whatever it was, Alan hoped that the other would feel better again.
"A-And it is al-also okay, I like th-the Hufflepuff team... so-some of my friends plays in it", he told Flash with a light smile. The game had yet to progress much and as they found their seats - to Alan's surprise the other kid had chosen seats further in the back - Alan sat down next to the first year. "Do y-you like candy? I br-brought some snacks for the game!", he explained as he began to pull out varies sweets and treats from the pockets of his robes.. Maybe some candy would be able to lift his spirits? Alan was not sure, if it would help, but sugar and sweets usually did; so it was worth a try.
"A-are you cheering for someone sp-specific?", he asked, curiously, as it was not usual to go cheer for a team you were not even sharing a house with, then again he was doing the same thing, so maybe Flash also had some friends, who were playing in the game. Well whatever it was, Alan would not know without having asked that question, so he tried to center his focus on Flash, so that he would not miss the answer, if the Slytherin chose to give him one.

It had been a while since Rafael had actually sat down to enjoy a Quidditch Game. It was an unspoken fact that the boy had been a bit preoccupied as of late, and for more than one reason. After all, the Thunderbird had had his own team to run, one he’d been pushing to success harder and harder during practices for the last few weeks. The Gryffindor Team was to play Slytherin in only a few days – and, if not for the snakes, there was to be an Interhouse Cup with Hufflepuff in April. Real Goliath, the Badger Team was, as they seemed to take down every opponent that got in their merry way. But, no matter. Giants were made to be slain, he’d long since decided. Just because they were cute and cuddly didn’t mean they couldn’t burn.
Though, as fun as it would be to sit and watch Ravenclaw completely destroy their opposing team, burning badgers weren’t the real reason Rafael had made his way to the Quidditch Pitch on such a bright morning. Truth be told, Rafael’s agenda was much more than leisurely – one could say, in fact, that the young boy was being rather ambitious with his interests. He’d come for one reason, and one reason alone: to spy out Hufflepuff’s strategy.
It seemed as if every Quidditch Team had one, he’d realized as the Interhouse Cup crept closer. All of the teams had strengths they liked to play to – Slytherin had Erin, Ravenclaw had Jorah. Hufflepuff had mastermind Saskia. Rafael couldn’t help but wonder what his own team had – above average beaters, yes, but their ranks were ridden with mere first years. Weak, inexperienced. What was the best way to utilize such a disguised strength? He had yet to find his secret weapon, a fact that unsettled the boy in a strange way, setting him on a teeter-totter of emotions that never seemed to give him any relief. God, he hated mysteries sometimes.
But there hadn’t been a mystery yet that he’d thrown the towel in for. He was keen on learning more about his own strategy, just as much as he was in learning Saskia’s. For this reason, the boy had set out for the pitch early in the morning, bringing only a small notebook and some aviators, only in the case that the sun got particularly bright. He donned a red hoodie – enough to keep the nip of Jack Frost off his neck, but still maintain an air of warmth from the sun’s gentle rays – matched with some blue jeans, and white sneakers, the same grass-stained shoes he wore on the grounds every time he came out, in the hopes of preserving the little cleanliness he had among his small collection of shoes.
He’d invited another out – not quite a friend, he’d say, but someone of great importance to his investigative agenda. His co-captain – Evelynn, second-string seeker – had long since proven her wit to the boy, on the Quidditch Pitch and with a beater’s bat in-hand. They certainly weren’t on friendly terms at the moment – the girl had told off one of his close friends, and hit him with a bludger – but, there was certainly more to Quidditch than friendship. No, this was a business call, specifically with the intent of using her keen eye and sharp intellect to gain the Gryffindor Team some information. Why else would he wait for someone so brazenly insufferable?
The boy sat his belongings down on a bench, taking a seat quickly. His eyes surveyed the pitch quickly, taking in the flying players, some familiar and others strangers. How would the game turn out? Would Saskia prove her inner strategist once again – or would Emma trump her opponent and claim the cup for her team? And where the hell was Evelynn?

Never having gone to any games yet this year, Tyranni figured it was time to start watching some of the other games, making notes about what other players are doing, interesting tricks certain players may have up their sleeves, and any other interesting observations. She did not have any particular favorite choice for this match, but she did know a few of the Hufflepuff house members, one of which was playing her first game. Willow Anderson. She had met her a few times around Hogwarts, and that was good enough for Tyranni to decide to root for Hufflepuff.
She found a spot that was relatively unoccupied. She had come to the game alone, and did not really know anyone else to go with. She saw familiar faces in the area, but only because she had recognized them around Hogwarts and decided today was not a day that she wanted to go out of her way to sit next to someone. If someone came to her, that would be a different story. Taking her seat, she got situation and waited for the game to start.
She watched the two teams take their laps around the pitch.
"LET'S GO HUFFLEPUFF! TAKE DOWN RAVENCLAW!!! She had never been one to get super excited by sports, but there was a certain energy that radiated from the stands. And with her new role on the Slytherin team, she couldn't help but begin to share the excitement for the game.

Flash noticed Rafael and Tyranni file into the stands as well. He knew Tyranni was the brand new Slytherin co-captain, so he could easily imagine why she was sitting in on the match, and Rafael was likely the same. Normally he would have admired their dedication to research, but in his bout of depression he instead felt a pang of petty jealousy.
He wished he had such a noble reason for watching the match. His reasons were instead very hollow. To be there for a friend who neither wanted him to be there nor was actually his friend. It was pathetic.
He was glad he was hidden in the back, so that Rafael wouldn’t notice him and say something. He could only do so much to stop himself from ruining his reputation with everyone in the state he was in. Even bringing Alan along was a risk he took out of need for human contact. With that, he realized he had been paying barely any attention to Alan at all, instead instinctively looking around the crowd and analyzing his situation.
There Alan was, offering his dubious pocket candy. Besides not being much of a fan of sweets, Flash also couldn’t help but wonder how sanitary a pocket full of bon-bons could actually be. The last thing he needed was some kind of food poisoning on top of everything else.
”No thank you, Alan. Most sweets are… just too sweet for me.” Flash told part of the truth, the inoffensive part. He only found sweetness palatable as long as it was paired with something to balance it out, like spiciness or bitterness.
Alan continued talking however, asking Flash for the information he most didn’t want to share. He knew Alan was an inquisitive, curious person, so he had expected him to question his reason for cheering for Hufflepuff, and prepared a response.
”I do know someone on the team, but I don’t know if you could call us friends. I would rather not talk about it.” It was a trap of politeness. To pry further would be impolite, a trap especially for Alan. After all, he didn’t invite him so he could talk about Willow. It was quite the opposite, it was to distract him. ”Instead, I was hoping to watch the match with a friend beside me. You probably didn’t know this, but this is the first match I’ve ever watched first hand.”
