It was almost curfew, since summer had only ended recently the sun went down quite late. Delilah had been dreaming of seeing the sunset by the lake, the mountains in the backgroun. Tonight was the night she would do this, she was excited and yet scared at the same time, she would have to sneak out to do this, she was still wearing her clothes from that day and she told her dorm mates that she would be studying so she would be going to bed late, but she was just waiting for that last girl to fall asleep. She snuck out of the dorm, listening carefully to make sure nobody was in the commonroom. There wasn't anybody thankfully, she walked out of the door and quietly shut it behind her. She slowly walked down the stairs, the many, many stairs. She was so insanely lucky that she didn't run into anybody, she made her way outside and into the cool air, walking towards the lake, it was almost time.

The sky was pink and beautiful, she sat down on the lake side, a bit hidden off at the side by a tree so that if people walk past they couldn't see her very easily unless they had been watching her. Delilah looked out across the mountains, awestruck by the absolute beauty of it. She heard a small noise behind her but she didn't think they had seen her.  As the sun went in-between the mountains the sky went all shades of red, pink, orange and blue. She would probably never do anything like this in her life if she hadn't come to Hogwarts, this place was beautiful. Everything was beautiful here, the castle, the mountains, the lake, even some of the people were gorgeous, way prettier than plain old Delilah, brown hair, brown eyes, pretty boring. There wasn't much she could do to not be boring though, maybe when she is older she might die her hair, that wouldn't be boring then would it? She was a little scared of what her Granny would say if she went back home to her with purple hair or something like that. Delilah was wearing jeans, a tartan button up shirt and her signature purple converse high-tops, her favourite outfit that she owned.

And then somebody appeared beside her, she nearly screamed before she remembered she wasn't supposed to be there.

Reid didn't have a map that could tell him if anyone was nearby, so most of his patrols were done blind. It actually helped him learn to navigate Hogwarts Castle much better than before, no more stumbling around blindly. By now he knew the routine, where to go and where to not go. His wand was on him at all times, not that it truly made much of a difference. What did make a difference was the makeshift slingshot he had in his back pocket along with some stones. It was largely hidden by his cardigan and was never pulled out unless needed.

The question usually fell on if it made much of a difference, he didn't know but if danger was to ever show itself, he'd figure out soon enough. Curfew would soon take effect and he began to remind the students how much longer they had till it was time to retire themselves. The problem with his given authority was Reid had trouble exercising it, he was far too forgiving for the role sometimes. Yet there were still the rare instances that he'd get stern and the warnings would fly.

This didn't seem to be one of those cases, not when he saw the girl seemingly do nothing anyway. What was she doing though exactly? It seemed like she was just watching the sunset. His footsteps weren't unannounced, they were rather loud and he liked them to be. There were too many times where he's caught a student off guard and a wand had been pointed at him. "Hey -" Yet he didn't expect the scream this time around and it nearly had him jump out of his shoes.

Instead he coughed because he had choked on his spit for a second; Reid took a quick step back. "Oh, wow - I'm really sorry. I just wanted to say that curfew is going to take effect soon, so you should probably head back." he suggested, wringing is wrist. There was an apologetic tone to his voice, he didn't mean to frighten her that much. "Plus it's not good to be out on the Grounds this late."

As she screamed she slapped her hand over her mouth seeing it was the head boy, her face stung a little around her mouth where she got hit, she removed her hand as he started talking. "Oh, wow - I'm really sorry. I just wanted to say that curfew is going to take effect soon, so you should probably head back." She sighed and stood up in an attempt to be closer to his height, of course as a really short girl that didn't work very well but it was as good as it was going to get. "No it's my fault, it's not the first time somebody has given me a fright by the lake, I was just watching the sunset." Delilah laughed a little and scratched the back of her neck nervously, she had heard rumours about some people having a crush on Reid, and Delilah had to be honest, he wasn't sore on the eyes, but they were 11, girls shouldn't be talking about crushes and stuff at this age. At least Delilah had never had one, so she didn't agree with those girls.

"Plus it's not good to be out on the Grounds this late." Delilah smiled at Reid, ignoring her past thoughts, "Mind if I ask why? I was just going to go back to my dorm after watching the sunset, isn't it beautiful?" She asked,  her strong scottish accent coming out as always as she looked back across the gorgeousness of the lake and the background behind it, before looking back to Ried as he spoke. The sun was almost finished setting so the two in the shade of the tree were almost completely in darkness, just the small amount of light left from the sun lights that were turned on inside the castle coming out of the windows. Delilah would be lying if she said she wanted to leave, the lake was so beautiful and the cool breeze was very peaceful.

She looked down at her shoes as they lost their purple colour in the dark, slowly becoming a dark shade of grey, just like everything else around them, somehow the lake still looked strangely green. The curfew was coming up soon but she realy wanted to stay there. "Well anyway, I'm Delilah, it's nice to meet you, even though of course I have heard of you, you are head boy and people talk about you quite a lot so..yeah." Her eyes widened as she rambled on before accidentally telling him that people talk about him. "Ignore that last part. Pretend I stopped at 'you are head boy' please." She laughed nervously again, he looked kind with his green eyes but at the same time the height difference was a little intimidating to her.

His guarded stance relaxed as soon as she began to talk, he wasn't going to get blasted into next week anytime soon. Her height wasn't much of a notice till she properly stood up, although it wasn't like he towered over her entirely. If he did, Reid would most likely take a step back for some space. It was one of the things he was conscious about, but he never outwardly expressed it. His social habits also might seem rather peculiar, he'd fall into silence during conversations sometimes - especially after she commented about the sunset.

His forest green hues followed the horizon rather quizzically, he had to wholeheartedly agree with her. It was calming and rather serene to even just stand there, he wouldn't blame her for being so enraptured by it. The weather seemed fair too, now he himself was tempted to take the lake's grandeur in on his spare time. The mention of her name turned his head back to her though, a crooked smile gracing his features after finally learning her name.

Delilah. It was a nice name, it rolled off the tongue well and it never seemed to get lost in time. He rolled up his sleeves, doing his best to clean up his appearance for the sake of his role as a student. It wasn't the first time he's heard of people mentioning him outside of his circle, it was a little flattering. Yet he kept himself humble by always telling himself it was probably just small talk, nothing praiseworthy. Besides, he hasn't really done much to warrant tales from his peers. Perhaps it was still about his rejection of Bloom Silverton, that didn't exactly stay within his group of friends.

"I'm flattered, I hope they're good things. I haven't yelled at anyone so far." he mused, still lightly smiling. Reid quickly changed the topic. "But nice to meet you Delilah, I'm Reid - if I wasn't just 'Head Boy'." He was half-joking about it though. He loosely crossed his arms across his chest as her question from earlier popped into his foggy mind. The young boy motioned towards the forest, "Also I said that it's not good because we don't want you to be in danger really. A lot of weird things come out at night, you know?" A tinge of nervousness sat on his words, easily apparent as he informed her.

He'd know a thing or two about the weird things that went bump in the night. "Like uh - big, big spiders." It probably wasn't good that he mentioned the 'spiders', he was just sometimes too honest with his answers. It just came out like a waterfall and he sometimes didmore harm than good. Hopefully it wouldn't deter Delilah from seeing future sunsets; probably not. "But this sunset is worth a few big spiders, maybe a giant squid too." he lightly quipped. Reid indulged himself too much in small talk, but he didn't consider his patrol to be official till the sun truly went down and night came out.

She noticed that he loosened up at her talking and she smiled, but then he didn't talk for a while as Delilah rambled on, "Oh yes they are very good things, In would just personally prefer not to repeat them." She laughed a little as it suddenly got uncomfortable, he seemed a bit offended at her saying she knew him because he was head boy. "Oh, I'm really sorry, I didn't mean it as if your title was all that mattered, I'm not the smartest in the world, sorry again." She stepped forward a little bit towards him as she apologized but only a little.

Then he mentioned the spiders, "Well, Reid, to be honest I don't mind spiders, but if they are as big as you say I would rather not be anywhere near them, its snakes I can't deal with. And as for the squid.." She looked towards the water. The legend of the giant squid was no stranger to Delilah, she decided she wouldn't tell him about Sieges tendancy to swim in there, she didn't think that would land very well for the boy. "Yeah, no thanks." She laughed again. "I would say the sunset it worth anything here, but I would still prefer to not have run-ins with giant creatures." She was scared of all sorts of stuff in the lake, normal sized or not. Delilah found it a little funny how he came over here to tell her to go back inside soon and yet it was her conversation with him that was stopping her from doing so.

She thought about the name Reid for a minute and then it clicked, "Your name is the same as the Scottish word for red." She smiled, not that it was a very important fact, but she found it nice.Delilah didn't use Scottish slang words very often because people didn't understand her accent very often without using words they hadn't really heard before, but every so often a word or so would slip out and she would have to explain to them. But when Delilah was back home they would all constantly use Scottish slang, when she went back for the holidays her granny would probably get angry and yell 'Those eejits turned my bonnie wee lassie into one of them.' Delilah's Granny was not a fan of the English, it was a stereotypical thing yes, but all of her family had been Scottish and she was very patriotic.

Very persistent to keep the conversation going, to keep Reid distracted from the curfew that was coming very close to passing, she said, "So have you done anything interesting today?" With a grin on her face, being as friendly as possible without it being weird, at least she hoped it wasn't weird, Delilah didn't want him to be uncomfortable talking to her, she didn't like it when anybody was uncomfortable talking to her. That was one of the things she hates the most, was for people to not enjoy talking to her. "Am I talking too much? Please tell me if I am." She looked down to her shoes, her hair creating a sort of shield around of her, before looking back up for her brown eyes to meet his green ones, she tilted her head to the side slightly, a bit like a dog, trying to figure out from the look he was giving her if we was enjoying the conversation, before she realised that she was pretty much just staring at him. Her face went red as she looked back at the water, now she was uncomfortable, but she still didn't want to go to bed.

Could she get told off for staying outside if it is because she is talking to Reid? She still felt bad for when she just called him head boy instead of his actual name, which she had already known. Delilah eventually looked back up at him after a while, making sure she wasn't just staring this time.

Did he come off as if he was offended? The joke was missed, he couldn't blame her though. It caused the young boy's cheeks to burn a bright shade of red, hopefully not bright enough for her to notice. That sucked, he didn't mean it in that way. "N-no, you're not talking too much at all. I didn't mean to actually come off that way, I don't mind being called Head Boy or Reid." he sheepishly replied. His folded arms suddenly got even tighter, maybe out of embarrassment after what he made the girl think. Reid quickly brushed his hand down his face, clearing his throat as he did so.

"But it's been a slow day to be honest, I was trying to get around to doing my History of Magic homework. But I don't think I'll be able to do that till after my round." he wearily smiled. Instead of standing, the boy actually had opted to sit himself down a second later. Hopefully she didn't think it was weird of him to. He wasn't a runner like Ben, so he got tired of walking the long halls of the castle to warn the students of the curfew. "My legs are giving up, just need a few minutes." he tiredly beamed at the girl.

Whether she joined him or not was up to her, he was someone who liked to be comfortable when he could be. Reid stretched his legs out and folded them under himself afterwards. "What about you? What else did you do aside from watch the sunset?" He was now looking out towards the lake himself, taking a few minutes to properly absorb the view as he listened. Reid had noted one striking thing about her, she was clearly Scottish. Or was it Irish? There was a lot of trouble when it came to discerning the two accents apart, but some words pointed towards Scottish.

His was a clear English accent, although East Midlands if she could pinpoint such a thing. The thought of walking her back to her common room didn't cross his mind just yet, he was seemingly caught up trying to relax. But it was probably a much needed break from the hectic schedule he's been trying to adhere to so far. Plus he was kind of drawn into the idea of potentially getting to know a fellow student, if she'd allow him to.

Delilah hadn't seen his face turn red as the dark had filled almost all colours to grey at that point, she did hear him stutter though, but she decided to ignore it, it was pretty cold. "Oh, sorry, I tend to jump to conclusions sometimes, I would prefer to call you Reid though, mainly because I think calling you 'Head boy' even though I know your name is a bit rude of me to do to be completely honest. I don't think I would enjoy it personally." Delilah watched as he sat down, she decided to join him, mainly because it was more comfortable than standing and also because she would have to go between looking up at him then to down at him. She sat with her legs out straight towards the lake, she preferred to try and not get grass stains on her jeans if possible, since they don't wash out very easily.

When he mentioned the History of Magic homework she spoke up again, "I just finished it this morning, it was the essay wasn't it? If I don't get an O I will be quite annoyed, I wrote 900 words for that thing, I ended up rambling on how awesome I think Neville Longbottom was when he was here and well..yeah 900 words essay when the minimum was 500." She laughed nervously, leaning her back against the tree they were next to, she could hear the owls hooting quietly from the owlery and a few crickets chirping somewhere in the grass, probably never to be found.

"Well as I said, I finished the History of Magic homework, I studied for a little while in the library, chatted with some friends and then just sat in my dorm room until I came out here. I woke up pretty late though." She did miss out the part of her singing in the rehearsal room for a little while but she wasn't a fan of people knowing about her singing, somebody walked in on her singing once, and while Horace praised her and then played a song for her in return, she got the fright of her life when she opened her eyes to him clapping for her, she was very self-conscious of her voice and she didn't want just anybody to hear her sing, even if she enjoyed it. The pair seemed to sit in a comfortable silence for a little while before Delilah said, "I just realised how open I have been with new people recently, before I came here if somebody I didn't know spoke to me I would be silent and walk away, but now I'm sitting next to a guy I met like 10 minutes ago, having a conversation." She laughed, while she was self-conscious of her voice, she loved her laugh, that sounded a bit ego-tistical but it was her favourite thing about herself, it was much lighter than her actual voice, and she sounded properly like a girl when she laughed.

"Oh and I also sent a letter to my Granny, but that's pretty much all I did today." Her Granny was her only friend outside of Hogwarts, she closed her eyes for a little while as she felt a little sleepy, if she kept her eyes shut for too long she would fall asleep though, and she would rather not have the burden of falling asleep and probably falling onto Reid's shoulder, plus how would she even get back to bed, in the off chance that she did fall asleep, Reid would have to carry her, and even though she was quite light and he was probably able to, he wasn't allowed in the commonroom let alone the girls dorms, so she opened her eyes again and sat up straighter. The tree was a surprisingly comfortable resting place though, it wasn't too late, but since it was dark and technically past curfew, her brain was confusing her into thinking it was time to sleep.

Delilah leaned her elbows on her thighs and placed her head on her hands, fidgeting about to try and wake herself up.

A couple of laughs slipped his lips from her comments, she had a point about the essay. He had began his a few hours ago and stopped once he had the slightest bit of distraction from anything. "Nine hundred words?" he echoed, sounding genuinely astonished. How did she know? Did she count each and every one of them? Just from that alone, he assumed that she was from Ravenclaw. It was an assumption, yes, but so far it hasn't proved him wrong that most of them were academic superstars.

He cradled his face in on hand, leaning the bent arm on his thigh. He listened to her with a light smile on his features, chuckling every now and then. "I sent a letter to my mum and dad back in Derby too, miss the both of 'em." Reid lightly sighed. He shared her sentiments though, he actually did realize a dramatic change in his character since he came to Hogwarts. "But they said it sounds like I changed while I was here. My academics didn't change though, I think I actually got worse with that."

He talked in a very lighthearted tone, often amused but sincere at its best. He was more social here and more outgoing than with some of his friends back in Derby. It was more comfortable speaking to the students at Hogwarts, there was something that just made him feel fine in the moment. "If I met you back in Derby, I probably wouldn't be so comfortable with sitting next to someone who I just met." Since there seemed to be some transparency between the two of them, he quickly debated whether he should mention an insecurity of his.

What was the harm in it? She couldn't use it against him, it was something he really couldn't deny. That and she didn't seem like the type to cause quarrels between two people. "I don't really know much about the wizarding world too, the other day - I brought a flashlight to a campout. I didn't know magic reacted pretty badly to it." he mused. His hand played with the blades of grass underneath him, plucking and tearing a few of them as he spoke to Delilah.

"Well I'm not exactly sure how many but I doubt it was too far off." Delilah tried to hold back a yawn and failed. She wouldn't stop fidgeting in fear of falling asleep, she didn't want the conversation to end, and she didn't want to have to go to bed.  Reid definitely seemed more comfortable talking now that they had sat down. "I think my academics haven't changed much, I've always been one to read all day and do well in school, at least I think I do. I just speak a large amount less Scots than I do back home and as I already said, I'm way more open about talking and things."

"If I met you back in Derby, I probably wouldn't be so comfortable with sitting next to someone who I just met." "Same if I had met you in my village, you are really nice though." She laughed a little bit, looking over at him with a smile. He mentioned the flashlight and Delilah sighed, "I didn't know this entire world existed before I got my letter, none of my family are magic, my village just think I'm at some fancy boarding school because I'm smart." She removed her head from her hands and leaned back against the tree again, bending her knees to sit to the side of her as she turned her body to face Reid, the side of her head and her shoulder touching the tree, this way, if she did fall asleep, she wouldn't fall on his shoulder, that is very much preferred.

She realised that he was probably insecure about bringing a flashlight to the campout so she said, "I would have done the same thing, if Ravenclaw do ever have a campout then you have saved me the experience of doing that myself. I also sung a bit today in the rehearsal room but it wasn't very good." She sighed, she decided to just tell him because what's the point in hiding it from him, especially when she is tired, Delilah seems to ramble on even more than normal when she is tired.

She just sat there quietly for a while, watching his hand pluck at the grass, "Don't be mean to nature." She joked, laughing a little before yawning again. She won the brink of exhaustion but she really didn't want this to end, she wasn't exactly sure why she was enjoying the conversation so much when it wasn't all that interesting, but it probably had something to do with the tiredness and not wanting to sleep, fighting off what she couldn't win against. At least holding it off for a little while longer, but she had no idea how she would be getting up all those steps when she was this tired, lucky Reid, his commonroom wasn't at the top of a tower.

Most of the student he's talked to has always seemed open, interesting at the least bit. Talking to Delilah felt like he was talking to someone he's previously met, it was rare to find it in the muggle worlds. She talked a lot more than most people he's met, but perhaps that was because she seemed tired. Reid finally began to take notice to the student seemed like she was about to fall asleep. How long were they talking for? It only felt like a few minutes, maybe it was.

His own exhaustion was taking him over too. Reid looked at the worn wristwatch on his hand, being able to tell the time through the broken face. His dad had told him how to read a watch and he considered the watch to be a valued treasure anyway. "Don't be mean to nature." Mean to nature? Reid turned back towards her looking puzzled, then he realized he had been holding dead grass in his hand. Oh, his victims. He stifled a tired laugh and let the broken blades onto the floor.

"Fine, fine. I won't do it again. But uh -" The noise of some students behind him caught his attention and he looked over his shoulder. Good they were heading back. "What's your house? I can walk you back if you don't mind, you looked like you're about to take a power nap a few times." he snickered. It was an offer, he didn't want someone toppling over the grand staircase either. Getting caught by a professor as he was just having a chat would probably be bad too.

He had his duty to fulfill, but yet he couldn't help but be enticed by conversations like this. Reid slowly stood up, stretching his arms over his head and letting out a small grunt as he felt a joint or two crack. "Need help?" He held out a hand to the girl, if she wanted to take it or not.

"Trouble usually finds me."
