November was not known for being warm in Scotland and even more so the owlery was hardly known for being warm ever. It was only 8 degrees C today and although the grounds themselves were not particularly breezy there was no doubt that once she got up to the higher levels of the owlery it would be. Since the Slytherin girl did not have any classes today she dressed in her green and black plaid dress, black jeans, and her normal converse. She would grab her camera bag and put it over her shoulder since it contained the package that she needed to send today, and finally she would top herself off with her winter cloak emblazoned with the Slytherin house crest on the front. Remembering that the owlery was not exactly the best smelling of places she grabbed her almond vanilla lotion bottle and tucked it into her bag.

Just before leaving her dorm she would pull the hood up over her raven locks and shadow her face. She wasn’t trying to be secretive just warm as she left her dorms and the common room making her way to her intended destination. As she neared the entrance to the owlery she pulled out her small lotion bottle and put the smallest amount on her finger before rubbing it on her upper lip right under her nose. It wouldn’t fully cover the scent of bird droppings, but it would make it tolerable. Tucking away the lotion bottle she would then pull out her black gloves and slip them on before pulling open the door to the owlery and stepping inside.

Santario would swiftly but carefully ascend the stairs of the owlery to the highest platform. This was her favorite place because the window there allowed you to look over almost the entire grounds of Hogwarts and it was a place, she had yet to take a photo from. Something she intended to capture today if she finished her letter in time.

With a swirl of black and green, she rounded the top of the spiral staircase and entered the landing of the top floor only to stop short at the entrance of the stairs. To her surprise, there was a very familiar head of perfect blonde hair occupying the same space. She reached up and adjusted the hood of her cloak so that her face and the smile that spread itself across her lips could be seen. “Good afternoon Erik. What a pleasant surprise to find you here.

@Erik Tharaldson

Erik found himself in the owlery today. He had been wanting to send this letter to his parents now for a week, but just had been too busy and occupied. For all Hogwarts was, it certainly wasn't boring. Each day he had found himself either studying and trying (badly) to manage his homework that just seemed to increase instead of lessening or found himself interacting with others. Some had turned into friends and others. Well, they had just rubbed him the wrong way or were just plain and simple boring. Today, however, he had decided to take the day off. He deserved it. To be quite frank he actually looked forward to a day being on his own. Not having to be social for once. That's how he preferred things after all.

When he entered the owlery it was luckily empty. He hadn't been here in a while and he had hoped that nobody would be here either. So when he had found an owl and sent it off flying he had wanted to take his leave, but as soon as he wanted to turn around a familiar scent wafted into his nose. Something specific something that had almost gone, lost in the dominating scent of bird poop. He would've recognised it everywhere. Almond and vanilla. Just as he realised it, she greeted him.

When he turned around, he couldn't help, but smile as well when he saw that infectious smile of hers. Instantly forgotten that he had wanted to be left alone today. Hello, Santario. I see you couldn't get enough of me, huh? Can't blame ya. He winked at her and laughed at his own remark. How have you been? What brings you here?

The boy turned and those venomous green eyes were the first thing, as always, to draw her attention. Then it was his smile, not fake or forced like most people would do in formal or overly polite situations. No, it would seem the boy was finally warming up to her. Although they had been having their meals together when she could find him there was never a whole lot of room for conversation in the noisy hall. Small talk would have been the staple if any talking occurred at all. Santario had the knack of being quieter in the obnoxiously loud hall. She preferred to go, eat, and get back to what it was that she needed to do.

She giggled at his comment and shook her head softly when he winked at her. “Yes, I just couldn’t go without my daily dose of Erik. Besides, don’t think I didn’t notice the immediate smile that crossed your face when you saw me.” She teased him lightly before pushing her cloak aside and opening the flap of her camera bag exposing her camera, two lenses, a thick book that was probably a photo album, and a package large enough to hold a letter and some canisters of film. “Just here to send a package to my mom so that I can get some film developed. I also planned on telling her about some of the things that have been happening since I have been here. Kyle, Breaking my arm, and meeting you of course.” The mention of her broken arm was glossed over by mentioning meeting him as she realized that it was a mistake to mention that the moment the words left her lips.

“Mailing a letter to your family?” A Change of subject hopefully, but doubtful. If there was one thing she had learned about the boy in front of her was that he was probably just as observant as she was if not more. It would make sense that he would be more considering he was raised fulltime with the people that groomed him and she was not.

After their encounter in the common room Santario had come through with her promise to see each other in the great hall. They had spent some times together, eating, but their bond hadn't really grown in that timeframe. How could it have? They had talked to each other yes, but nothing noteworthy had happened. Maybe today would proof different as she seemed to be more talkative than she had been in the hall.

Everything seemed to move in that direction as she even giggled at his remark and teased him. Well, guilty as charged, your Honor., he said, grinning as wide as he could manage. It's pretty hard not to smile when you are. Erik whistled at the objects inside her bag. Well, you like to keep yourself busy, don't you? Is that a photo album? Can I take a look? Without waiting for her response, he made his way over to her bag. As Santario went on to reply to his earlier question he stopped dead in his tracks as his ears perked up at the mention of breaking her arm.

Breaking your arm? Erik went silent for a moment. You mentioned Kyle and breaking your arm in one sentence. Coincidence or is there more to it? She changed the subject hastily. Confirming what he hoped had not been the case. Did... Erik was struggling to find the words as he spoke through clenched teeth. Did he break your arm? His venomous green eyes searching and trying to lock sight with her sapphire blue eyes looking for the answer if she tried not to answer him.

It was true their friendship had not had time to flourish with Santario’s nontalkative ways. It also had not helped that she had, had more on her mind than an 11-year-old child should. The world was a heavy place and she had been carrying a lot on her little shoulders. A very slight blush would have hit her cheeks when he spoke about himself only smiling that way because she had been. It wasn’t very often she had received genuine compliments and she would not say anything more of it, only allowing her smile to widen in return.

That was when things moved rather quickly. He asked to see her photo album and had started moving towards her as she explained why she was here. Only, then he stopped suddenly and the movement was enough to make her look up at him catching those intense eyes as he searched her for an answer the way she searched other people for them. Her eyes glanced downwards and to the left for a moment before meeting his gaze again signifying that she was recalling an emotional memory. “No, Not intentionally.” Her tone was calm and even as she held eye contact.

She would close any remaining distance between the two and reach out for him and if he allowed her, she would rest her hand gently on his forearm. A comforting gesture as if she were trying to soothe him. “Let me explain… After our talk in the common room that night, well the Masquerade ball was the next day. There was a lot of drama that happened before those crazy giants attacked the students. I had already left by then… She swallowed hard and licked her lips before continuing. “So long story short some girl punched another girl and one of the Prefects went over to stop it. Only Kyle only saw the prefect holding the first girl’s fist in his hand and her trying to get free. So Technically speaking he had the right idea, but the wrong actions. He ran over and started a fight with the prefect and another prefect joined in to stop that fight. However, when the fight was subdued… Well, Kyle still tried to continue with violence and because the person he was trying to be violent towards was a friend of mine I tackled him to the ground… I’ve never tackled anyone before and well we landed wrong on my arms and it broke my arm left arm. So no he did not break my arm, technically my actions broke my arm, but his violent actions towards the Prefect didn’t help his case when I confronted him the other night about everything we spoke about.”

She had been in the means of a ramble about the fight and had not meant to bring up the confrontation just yet, but she knew they would have gotten to it eventually. Her eyes remained locked on his assuming that he was still looking at her. She would wait until he asked her for more details before continuing on as that would be an even longer explanation and she wanted to make sure that Erik understood that Kyle did not snap her arm like a toothpick on purpose.

Santario blushed as he complimented her, causing her smile to get bigger and the sight warmed Erik. When her eyes met his they seemed to go everywhere before catching them again. She went on to take a few more steps towards him and she even put her hand on his forearm, causing him to slightly tense up as he looked down at her hand. It was his natural reaction to stiffen up as he had not expected her to touch him. When he looked back in those sapphire blue eyes, he relaxed and allowed it. Somehow it seemed like she took away or absorbed some of his tension away. He was a bit more at ease. He did not know how she did it, but he enjoyed it.

The fellow Slytherin went on to talk about the events that had transpired during the Masquerade ball. He himself hadn't attended it as he had opted to stay in the Slytherin common room, but it seemed like he had missed out. When he had asked a few of his fellow housemates what had happened there they had told him a crazy story and had discarded it as a childish attempt to impress him as each time the story seemed to get darker and more out of hand. But what Santario told him seemed to be similar. Erik analyzed her closely as his eyes scanned her body language and he listened intently to what she was telling him. He was looking for any signs of deception, but he couldn't seem to find any. Instead, as she went on with her story she had become more serious and sincere.

The werewolf rubbed his temples as he spoke: So, to get this straight. There were crazy giants whilst two crazy chicks were fighting one another and when someone with authority tried to step in Kyle went full on psycho and started swinging before thinking and when that was handled Kyle just kept on going until you threw him on the ground causing him to land on your arm. Right? Erik seemed to get more confused by, the minute of this crazy story. Well, it sure as hell isn't dull at this school.

Where were all the professors when this transpired? Is Kyle actively trying to hurt you in as many ways as possible? Because so far he sure as hell seems to do a very good job at that. If he can't target you he targets your friends. How on earth can you call him a friend? Erik stopped ranting as it dawned to him. He had forgotten to ask the most important question as of yet. Are you okay? How is your arm? Can I do something to help? The Slytherin boy stopped talking as he tried to examine her arm.

She noted that he seemed to relax somewhat slightly after tensing up and that was better than nothing. At least he could be calmed in some manner when he was upset, but she did understand tensing up when someone touched you. After all, when he had first touched her shoulder when they had first met she had done the same. “I think the giants were there but they didn’t start acting until after we left, but the crazy stories are true. There were some professors there helping but not many, not as many as there should have been.”

She removed her hand from him subconsciously grabbing onto her left arm when he brought up Kyle again. “I do not think he did that on purpose. He didn’t even know Quinn and I are friends.” In fact, not a whole lot of people knew her and the half giant were friends as they always seemed to be together when others just weren’t around.

Her eyes dropped from his even as he started to ask her if she was okay. “My arm is fine… and… He isn’t my friend anymore.” She held her left arm up and rolled back the sleeve. It was a perfectly porcelain pale arm. No evidence that it had ever been broken, no scratches, or anything roughed up. In fact, Santario seemed to be in perfect order minus, perhaps, her severely wounded pride.

“I confronted him… It wasn’t on my terms but it happened none the less. He didn’t even defend himself. Didn’t explain himself. One moment he is asking me to dance because he felt bad about my arm being broken and the next minute he is asking me what was wrong… So I told him everything that I thought was wrong and I asked him if he hurt Jake.” Tears welled up in her eyes and a hitch hit her voice. “He was cruel he didn’t deny it, he didn’t defend himself. It was basically a yeah I did it so what moment… So. I threatened him. I told him if I ever find out that he has hurt Jake again I wouldn’t just be talking to him about it.”

It was more than clear that she was upset, ashamed, and emotionally wounded. Someone that she had put all of her trust in and someone she told everything too was not who he presented himself to be. He never communicated with her, he never explained anything ever, and more importantly, Santario felt stupid because she had been so desperate to make a connection to someone… She had allowed herself to get hurt… many times in the process.

Aren’t I doing the same thing with you? Letting you get close… What if you hurt me too?

When Santario told him that the stories were not complete fiction, but actually real Erik was taken aback and not only about this fact. It wasn't really reassuring that the professors weren't enough to keep everything in check and most of all none of the students to be wounded. It seems like I missed out the party of the year. Damn, I really should go to these social gatherings more often in the future.

As the raven haired girl went on to talk about her friendship with Quinn, Erik couldn't help, but let out a whistle as he recognised the name from the S.W.A.G. Club game. Wow, that big boy is your friend? Having a half-giant in your corner can't hurt. It did not go unnoticed as he mentioned Kyle she grabbed her previous broken arm. As if he had asked for proof of her being okay, she showed her now completely healed arm that didn't seem to have any signs of it ever being broken.

When she started talking about Kyle and their confrontation emotion seemed to overwhelm her. Erik wanted to do something to help her. Anything to stop the crying. He looked around the owlery to see if anyone was there and if she allowed it, he would in the heat of the moment quickly hug her awkwardly for a few seconds before releasing her again as he spoke. If she didn't allow this he would awkwardly stand there as he spoke. You're better off without him. His voice was strong and sincere. Without thinking he let his hand fall on her shoulder as his eyes searched for hers as he continued. Look, I'm not the best guide in all this emotional... Erik tried to think of the right words, but seemed to not have any inspiration at this crucial moment. Thanks brain for letting me down now!, he thought.

Stuff... But what I do know is someone that can look you in the eye and tell you he hurt someone you love without feeling sorry or feel guilty about it is someone not worth your time. But don't take my word for it. I mean I'm hardly an example of how you should deal with these types of situations. The werewolf didn't know how to react properly at her. He had learned to be polite, respectful, well-mannered, but this? This was where his education fell short. He had found himself in uncharted territory as it dawned to him, he had put himself out there. Vulnerable and naked. It scared him to death, but he would not show it to her, but a frown had formed on his face of the inner conflict that was going on inside his head as he went over his options. Put his walls back up or let them down.

She would have chuckled slightly a small short noise when he mentioned Quinn being good to have in her corner. He wasn’t wrong, it wasn’t why she befriended the half-giant, but it was most definitely a bonus. “He is a good guy.” He did have his own share of problems and just another boy in her life that was quick to anger, but Quinn was one of the few people she would trust with her life.

Then, however, Erik took her by complete surprise and hugged her. Though his hug would be a little awkward because he didn’t hug people often or at all, the hug she gave him in return would not be. Santario’s hug would be tight and warm with her head resting against his shoulder even in just the fleeting moment that the hug lasted. His goal of trying to make her feel better was a success because she understood how rare it was for him to do something like that. It warmed her that he would go against what he normally felt was right or proper just to try and comfort her.

“No, you are right. I am so stupid to allow him to affect me this way.” She wiped her eyes before any tears managed to fall. “I was stupid to ever let anyone get that close.” Though it would seem that her interaction with Erik would show that, perhaps, she had not learned it well enough. “I am sorry for just dumping all of this on you. You don’t need to deal with this or a foolish girl making stupid decisions. And if it makes you feel any better I think you handled me just fine for someone who isn’t used to this… To be fair I am really not either… I’m not normally like this.” It was a true enough statement because when you were alone all the time you were not really put into emotional situations or allowed to experience them the way you would with other people.

“So, Erik, Why don’t you tell me something about yourself? Obviously, we both know we come from very reputable families, but tell me about you. What are your ambitions?” It was an easy enough subject change and one that would get Erik to talk about himself hopefully. She wanted to learn more about him she wouldn’t make the same mistakes that she did with Kyle with her other friends and more importantly, she didn’t want to talk about Kyle anymore.

San chuckled slightly at his remark about her befriending a half-giant causing her, for what seemed to Erik, bring back fond memories of her and her abnormally large friend. As his hug was awkward and he had just put his arms far too wide around her and padded her back slightly, she suddenly hugged him tight and let her head rest on his shoulder. When she let go it caused him to stutter for a moment. I- I... Erik cleared his throat and took a deep breath before he regained his composure, but for some reason his head had turned red like a tomato. Besides that a warmth seemed to spread in his chest for some reason. Odd;, he thought.

Well, I'm not going to lie. You were stupid for letting him get that close. The werewolf wasn't one to mince words. Not even for those he liked. As she went on with apologising he held up his hand. No need to apologise for that. You are perfectly fine. We all need to unburden ourselves of some things from time to time. Besides, I'm glad you did so. Who else would I otherwise have to instill my everlasting, wisdom to?, he added with a light tone and a wink.

As she went on to ask him about himself, Erik was inclined to provide her with at least some answers as he was fond of her. Well, unlike most people there is quite a lot to say. Where do I even begin? As you probably already guessed by my accent I'm not from around here. I was born and raised in a town called Tønsberg in Norway. He turned away from her as he let his hand touch the stoney frame of the window, he looked out from now as he continued. Besides that I'm the only remaining heir of house Tharaldson. This might come as a shocker, but I'd like to one day become an Auror. I know you must be amazed. Erik Tharaldson, a stickler for the rules? Lies! Well, not so much to enforce the rules, but Aurors are respected, feared, smart and adventurous. That's my lifelong dream as long as I can remember. I never imagined myself doing anything else you know? He turned towards her leaning against the stoney frame as he looked with those venomous green eyes at San. How about yourself?
