Once aboard the train, I was at a loss. I tried to stand out of the way as I watched the other kids scramble to and fro looking for empty seats. Most of them had a friend or two that they searched with. They all looked excited. I frowned. I thought I’d already gotten used to being alone but the truth was that I’d never be, especially in times like those. Apparently, significant life changes were much more frightening for those who had to undergo them alone.
The children in the corridor thinned out until all that was left was myself and a few stragglers. Pulling my suitcase behind me, I started to make my way down the train cars, avoiding eye contact with anyone as I searched for an open spot. The train suddenly let out a short, high-pitched whistle before it gently jolted forward and started moving. “Oh, no.” I sighed. The only seats that appeared to be available were the few between familiar groups of friends that I dared not disturb. I couldn’t find anywhere to sit and I became more distressed as each minute went by. Eventually, frustrated and overwhelmed by emotion, I stopped walking and put my face in my hands. Tears welled up in my eyes and my throat tightened. I avoided sobbing just in case someone would notice, only allowing a few sniffles and jagged breaths to escape. In that moment, I just wanted to go home.

Jorah entered another train car pulling his trunk behind him. The train was already moving forward, but Jorah had yet to find a place to sit. I knew I should have hopped on the train earlier, he thought to himself. Jorah recalled today's events. Jorah and his family got up early that day. Usually the boy liked to sleep in, but today was special. He was so excited to begin his journey to Hogwarts and he could not wait another second. All summer, he questioned his parents about what Hogwarts was like, but they weren't much help. His parents were Ilvermorny graduates, so Jorah turned to books for his answers. He learned all about Hogwarts' founders, the castle itself, and its ghostly inhabitants. Jorah had never seen a ghost before, but he knew they existed! After a hefty helping of French toast for breakfast, Jorah and his family set out on the two hour road trip from Brighton north to King's Cross station. Goodbye home, Jorah waved to his seaside cottage.
They arrived at King's Cross with plenty of time to spare. Jorah stood with his family as long as possible, listening to all of his parents' requests to be safe and stay in touch. He had heard this a million times already, but Jorah would just nod and say, "I will, don't worry." A few lengthy and emotional hugs later and Jorah went from being one of the first to arrive at the station to one of the last to board the train. Now I can't find a seat anywhere, Jorah thought, a little annoyed that he was delayed so long. I should have claimed a seat first, stored my luggage, and then said goodbye. Jorah made his way down the train car's hall until he was blocked by a red-headed girl with her own luggage. "Excuse me, have you seen any available seats?"

As I boarded the train, I noticed that almost everyone already had that sense of comraderie about them, and being the person I was I did not want to disturb that. I looked around for anyone sitting alone in a booth, but saw none. As I walked farther down the train I noticed a girl looking lost with a boy right beside her, so I decided to go up to them and introduce myself.
"Wren"
I held out my hand but the girl just seemed confused and the boy seemed a bit irritated that I had interrupted him.
"Sorry I interrupted you, My name is Wren by the way. I sometimes get too confident and just blurt things out not knowing or thinking whether or not the other person will understand me. Oh, and I talk a lot as you might have noticed."
The girl introduced herself as Piper.
After the bit of irritation had worn off, the boy introduced himself as Jorah.
"Follow me" I said and I started to walk in the direction of the next train cart. "I'm sure we will find an empty booth soon enough."
As they stood there looking confused I prompted:
"It wouldn't do you any good to be standing there when the train starts to move would it?"
Once they started to walk towards me, I preceded to find an empty booth and slide into it. They followed not soon afterwards.
"I'm sorry I tend to be a bit to straightforward sometimes don't mind me."

Before the boy reached me, I had heard someone approaching from behind and quickly wiped my face with my sleeves. I hoped my eyes hadn’t gotten puffy yet. I would rarely cry and to develop that reputation before the first day at my new school would have been mortifying. It was a one time thing, okay? Probably...
He asked if I had seen any available seats and I turned to face him, my frown still on. The answer was hell no, but I usually wasn’t allowed to say that, so I just shook my head. Before he could say anything else, a girl that seemed to come out of nowhere joined them and gave an abrupt introduction. Afterwards, she paused and looked at me. I knew she was expecting me to reply immediately but I hesitated. I didn’t get along well with people who were too used to getting their own way.
She was practically staring at me, waiting for me to say something. It was as if I didn’t reply, the conversation couldn’t progress as she had planned and we’d all get caught in limbo. Nonetheless, she was making me uncomfortable, so I finally gave her my name. The boy who had approached me earlier did so as well. Then she demanded that we follow her as she pushed past us and started walking toward the back of the train. When she found an open spot, we joined her.
She made a sort of apology as I was putting my suitcase up by the seat across from her. “No worries,” I said.

The redhead shook her head no, she had not seen any free seats either. Jorah would have to keep looking. Before he could continue his search, a girl with blonde hair approached Jorah and the redhead. She held out her hand introducing herself as Wren. After a hesitation, the redhead introduced herself as Piper. Jorah just wanted to find a seat, he wasn't ready for a whole meet and greet, but something compelled him to introduce himself, maybe it was peer pressure. "Hi, I'm Jorah," he said reluctantly.
Wren told them to follow her and she began walking off to the next train car. Jorah wasn't a person who blindly followed the commands of a stranger, but he needed to find a seat and he was headed in that direction anyway. Eventually the three came across an empty booth. Wren apologized for being straightforward. In response, Jorah gave her a nod, acknowledging her apology.
Jorah bent down in a squat and lifted his luggage up and unto a rack above the seats. He grabbed the front facing window seat. Resting his head against the window, he watched the view of outside slowly change from the busy urban setting of London to a sparsely populated green countryside. Soon he would be back in Scotland, and not long after that, Hogwarts! Jorah wished the train would move a bit faster.

"Like I said i tend to talk a lot. Oh, and i also sleep a lot, so I will probably not talk while I sleep, but, well, I can't control that. No-one has ever told me I talk while I sleep so, that shouldn't be problem. I also tend to ramble on and on about random subjects while I talk." She looked out the window. "The scenery is beautiful. I always wanted to see the cuontry. I lived in a big city my whole life and I never got out much because up until now i have been homeschooled. Then when we moved to London to be with my grandparents, I pretty much just stayed in my grandparents house talking to them and practicing how to say mum and dad in a British accent. What is up with that? Why is the country called either England or Britain, the people English or British, but it's all the same country. I get confused over the littlest things. I'm sorry here I go again." She turned her head back to Piper and Jorah, "I hope the Trolley comes soon I'm starved. I really want to try the infamous Chocolate Frogs!! I'm sorry for rambling again. I'm going to go to sleep. When the trolley comes would you please wake me up? Thanks in advance."

"I'm sorry they couldn't be here" whispered Lilith's aunt as she gave her one last hug.
Her embrace was nice and warm, but not the same as her mother's. Over the past couple months living with her aunt, they had bonded a lot. Her aunt helped her go to Diagon Alley and shop for her school supplies. She even helped her pick out her trunk, blue to match her hair embossed with L. Hayes in silver lettering. They promised to exchange owls during the school year. But she still missed her parents nonetheless. She stepped on to the train as it was about to depart, waving goodbye to her aunt. As the train jolted to a start, she continued to look at her aunt as they left the platform, until she became nothing but a dot in the distance.
She started to walk through the train, lugging her trunk along. She was so eager to start her adventure at Hogwarts that she had already changed into her robes before getting on the train. Each cabin she passed was full of students. She realized that she had missed her opportunity to grab a good seat. She wanted to find a cabin where she could meet some nice people and make new friends. Finally, she saw what seem to be the last free seat on the train. She opened the door to find three students already sitting there. She saw a boy looking out the window and two girls, one who was talking a lot. It was difficult for Lilith to interrupt the girl, so she waited until she took a pause.
"Excuse me, is this seat taken?"

Wren was indeed a talker, Jorah not so much, at least not at first. As Wren rambled on, Jorah continued staring out of the window, responding with body language when appropriate. A nod here, a nod there, followed by a shrug of his shoulders. Then Wren mentioned chocolate frogs, piquing Jorah's interest. His father worked for the chocolate frog manufacturers and every now and then his dad would bring some free samples home. Jorah not only enjoyed the milk chocolate treat, but the famous witch and wizards cards as well. He had a long way to go before his collection would be complete, but maybe when the trolley witch came by, he would get a new addition to his collection.
Jorah was about to tell Wren "sure, no problem" when asked to wake her, but a new voice chimed in with, "Excuse me, is this seat taken?" Jorah turned his attention from the window and was surprised to see a girl with blue hair in their train cabin's doorway. Blue hair, is that even allowed?, Jorah thought to himself. He knew there was a strict dress code at Hogwarts, but he couldn't recall any rules about hair color. "Yeah, that seat is free," Jorah answered, motioning towards a vacant seat. The girl entered the cabin, storing her belongings overhead before taking her seat. Once she was settled, Jorah gave her a small wave, saying, "Hi, I'm Jorah, are you a first year too?" He pointed towards her hair. "I didn't think something like that was allowed."

Wren was about half asleep when a new girl opened the door to the booth. The girl had blue hair, (Wren did not think that was allowed because if it was, she would have her hair purple but who was she to judge? She had only been introduced to the wizarding world this summer).
As Wren was about to say hi, the girl said,
“Hey! I’m Wren, I talk a lot so don’t mind me. Just pay attention if anything has to do with you cause I’m generally curious. In second grade I (was in the back of the line mind you) climbed to the front on the line (on my hands and knees) just to see what the teacher was doing because she was taking a long time.
Wren paused for a second to catch her breath.
“Anyways, I think Jorah’s right. I think that’s not allowed. But who am I kidding I really don’t know the rules of Hogwarts."

Lilith was glad that she was able to find a seat. She was getting a little tired walking down the train. She stowed her trunk above the vacant seat and sat down. The talkative girl was half-asleep by the time Lilith had put her trunk away. She sat down next to the boy.
"Hi, my name is Lilith Hayes. I'm a first year too. I don't know if my blue hair colour is allowed but I don't remember reading that it isn't. I like the colour blue. I hope they don't make me change it," she replied. She started twisting her hair in her fingers, looking at it sadly. She could feel her eyes water a little. She decided to change the subject.
"Are you guys excited to start Hogwarts too?" she smiled, trying to be as bubbly as possible.
She was excited to meet a fellow first-year. The boy seemed nice and soft-spoken. She nodded enthusiastically.Hi, I'm Jorah, are you a first year too?
When he gestured at her hair, Lilith was taken aback. She had not considered whether or not her hair colour was allowed. She had just done it. Before she had a chance to answer, the blond girl starting talking. Lilith only got half of what the girl was saying because she was speaking very quickly. However, she did catch the last part of the girl's speech.I didn't think something like that was allowed.
Now, Lilith was scared of getting in trouble. Both Jorah and Wren had commented on her hair. She really did not want to change it. All she could do now was hope for the best.Anyways, I think Jorah’s right. I think that’s not allowed. But who am I kidding I really don’t know the rules of Hogwarts.
