The day was quite a boring day. In fact, Donny would rather be doing his Transfiguration homework than sitting around all day, on this rainy fall day. He had just finished attending DADA class, and he was trying to figure out how to cast the blindfolding spell, but he was still a bit shaky. He flipped through pages in his textbook Dark Forces: A Guide To Self Protection to see if he could find the correct "Etymology" of the spell for his homework. He couldn't seem to find it. He poked at his rat, Spot, in his pocket, who was sniffing around for some more leftover pumpkin bread crumbs.
"Come on, come on..." he muttered, flipping back and forth through chapters, and scanning everything he'd underlined. But all he could find were weird names of prehistoric wizards that sounded foreign, and dumb. Forget This He thought to himself.
Two and a half hours later, still, nothing. He was hot, and impatient. What was the purpose of homework anyways? It was just a mechanism to torture students into a structured, hard working environment. Donny picked up his textbook, and finally, after much distraught and angst, threw it across the room. It landed with a heavy thud near a bookshelf in the corner of the room. It attracted the attention of a few startled first years but that was it. He stretched back and sighed.
"Another boring day." he said to himself, hoping lunch would approach soon. He went over to the textbook, stood back and pointed his wand at it.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" he announced. What was a boy to do? Maybe he looked stupid, but fun was fun. The book levitated into the air, waiting for a command. He moved his wand to the left, and the book swayed to the left. His wand went up, the book shot right up. He threw his arm back, and snapped his wand forward...the book went-
Thump.
-right into the back of another boy's head! Donny jumped up, and winced at the sight. He quickly put his wand away an looked for teachers. A prefect stared at him a little, but he was good. He walked slowly up to the victim. He was a very thin boy with messy brown hair and Hufflepuff robes on, similar to Donny's own. He was tall enough, but still a little stunted to be a second year. He'd never seen him around or anything. But maybe he could make friends?
Friends. Donny thought. With the boy who's head he just smacked with a large textbook. "Are you-er-Okay? I-I mean sorry about that?" Donny said awkwardly, rubbing his own head and looking at the first year.

The first year was just sitting there, glaring at the tome that rested in front of him. Why does reading have to be so BORING? His eyes were starting to make the words blur and he had to look up. Then suddenly THUMP! "OW!" He exclaimed loudly as his hands immediately shot up to the back of his head. Who in the world would throw a damn book at me? Glaring around, Jack searched for the person who had decided it would be a good idea to start throwing things around.
An older boy came scurrying up to him. His apology immediately squished any ill will he had toward this stranger. "No. No, I'm fine, don't worry about it." He sighed, "What were you trying to do with that book?" Jack asks, looking at the new person. This boy had black hair, with coffee-colored skin, and a pair of spectacles. His hand still held the back of his head with his left hand. The dull pain had already started to subside. "Y'know most people don't throw books around willy nilly, right?" He asks jokingly. A small smirk pulled across his face, and he closed his book.

Donny took a deep breath and sighed. Luckily the boy wasn't hurt, and Donny wasn't walling in his own pit of shame. "Oh! Your okay that's..cool? I mean-I was stupid. No, no, I mean...well?" Donny had a weird feeling that there was something wrong with his speaking abilities today. "Let me rephrase this. Hi, my name is Donny. I'm a dumb second year, and I was bored so I..uh, threw a book at your head! NOT-on purpose but just-" Donny took a step back in rolled his eyes under his eyelids, a grin on his face.
"Let's just say-I'm not a big fan of homework!" he finally spit out. He thought about all of the awkward encounters with kids here at Hogwarts he'd had, but this was by far the most...special. "It doesn't hurt does it?" Donny asked, looking down and back up at the boy with an expression of sympathy. "I didn't mean to hit you, I was just fooling around with spells."
Donny hid his wand in his robes pocket. His rat Spot was fidgeting around in there.

The back of his head still had a dull ache, but it was quickly fading. "I know how to take a hit, so no worries" he responded. This second year sure seemed to have a bad relationship with words, and that thought made Jack's small smirk grow a bit wider. "Donny." He spoke, "I'm Jack. It's nice to meet you." The boy shoved out his right hand.
"Homework is pretty killer, if you ask me. Some of these professors don't like to go easy, do they?" He responded to Donny's comments, "Oh my head? Naw, the aching is already going away. I'm just glad that you decided to throw a book and not something that was heavier." Flashes of big metal objects slamming against his skull flashed through his head. He sure dodged a bullet with the book. "Hey, I don't blame you! This classroom feels more like a morgue than a magical school." The first year jokes. "You were using the levitation charm, right?" Jack had assumed that he had just thrown the dang tome at him, but it was clear to him now that the use of magic was at hand. It was sometimes hard to turn on the whole idea that magic was real in his brain.

Donny looked at the boy, who was still rubbing his head, but seemed fine...thankfully. The most surprising thing of course though, was the outstretched hand that greeted Donny so warmingly in the midst of this awkward encounter. He snapped out of his foggy state, stretching out his hand and returning the favor.
"Er, yeah, Jack. Nice to meet you!" Donny said, nodding his head and pulling his hand back into his robes pocket. He felt a little nip from his new rat Spot. "Ouch!" Donny exclaimed, waving his hand in the air and sucking his thumb, just as Jack said something else. "Yeah, tell me about it! You'd think two rolls of parchment would be enough, but not for this lot!" he said, laughing and forgetting the pain on his finger, which was, regrettably enough, less pain than that of what Jack was feeling a minuet ago.
"But yeah. I used that charm to try and attempt to entertain myself. Do you know it? Wingardium Leviosa that is?" Donny asked. He couldn't quite remember if that was in fact a first year charm, but it might have been. "I like charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts! Spells and such-It's exciting!"

The boy's grip was firm. It was fairly obvious that the boy had some strength. The handshake only lasted a couple of moments before Donny withdrew. However, the yelp from the older boy had caused him to cock an eyebrow. Did he have something in his pocket that had cut him or something? The other boy was in the middle of talking, so Jack decided that he would just wait to ask about that. "It's so much work!" He just added onto the end of Donny's comment about the homework.
"I don't know think I've mastered that charm yet, but I am working on it!" He answers, "I don't think I get the grasp of it totally." The response was an honest one, and Jack pulled out his wand from his robes. "But I actually really enjoy Transfiguration and Defense against the Dark Arts! The whole idea of changing one thing to another is just awesome! I can't believe that before I came here, I didnt' think it was possible!" His half-blood upbringing was mainly based in the muggle world. For some odd reason, his mother had a strong aversion to the entire wizarding world. It actually made no sense to the young boy.

Donny listened as Jack went on about his interest in Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts. He responded, "I kinda' like Transfiguration, not as good as Defense Against the Dark Arts, or charms though, in my opinion," he said, fiddling with his wand in his pocket. "In fact, that's where I learnt most of my...useful spells. Besides, Transfiguration has only taught me how to change a matchstick into a needle. Helpful? Not very much." he said, grinning.
"But hey, you could show me what you know! Like... a duel! A friendly duel of course!" he suggested. He'd never really had a friendly duel, considering his near death experience last year with a ravenclaw boy. But it was worth the try, as long as it stayed safe. "Or, you don't have to, of course. If you don't want to." he added, making sure not to startle his new acquaintance. He wasn't trying to be a "bad influence" for the first year boy, but to be completely blunt, he wasn't sure the age gap mattered. He desperately needed a friend, someone to talk to ever since the summer holiday's. "We could start off with a few, simple spells if you want?"

If you like, you can start off by showing off a simple spell you learned before we get into the friendly duel. It'll happen over the course of a few posts, of course before the slytherin's join in!

It was fair to say that turning matchsticks into needles was not the most interesting spell, but the idea behind it was still pretty cool! But imagine how many cool things could be done with transfiguration. Just look at the Animagus. How cool would it be to turn into an animal? Jack could imagine turning into a hawk and flying through the sky. Cold air rushing past him without the need of a broom or anything else of the sort.
"A duel? That would be awesome!" Jack perked up immediately at the idea of a duel. He had never been in one, but it would be freaking awesome to sling some of the spells that he had learned this school year! "Are you sure that you are wanted to go against me? I'm pretty strong." He grins, as he jokes. "I am so down to duel!" At that point, Jack drew his wand from his yellow Hufflepuff robes and pointed it at the ceiling. "Simple spells would probably be for the best. I only know a couple of spells that are good enough to duel with. I don't think a spell that turns matchsticks into needles is super effective in a fight."

Donny beamed! He'd finally found someone that was a competitive like himself. Someone that was just as curious, just as interested in the wonders of the wizarding world. He blinked at Jack's statement. "You really think so?" he answered. A duel would be perfect! Just as long as it didn't get out of hand. Then Jack said the most hilarious thing. Does he want to duel Jack? "Of course I'll duel a weak bloke like yourself!" Donny joked, grinning. "You have your wand don't you?" Donny asked, trying to distract his opponent. It was, after all, a little friendly competition.
But...that still permits one to have a little sneaky fun. Donny didn't wait for Jack to answer before he drew his wand. he observed it- 33,6 cm chestnut wood and unicorn hair. Perfect for a knowledgeable duel. He whipped it up in the air, and before Jack could react-
"Rictusempra!"
He said, the spell abounding upon his subject. After all, a small tickling spell couldn't hurt anyone?

"Of course I have my wand. Don't you see it?" Jack began to wave it around with a little too much enthusiasm. But suddenly a word filled his ears. Rictusempra. That was just unfair! The older Hufflepuff hadn't said that they were starting yet! Suddenly a pressure began to build around his stomach and armpits. Like a fury of fingers, Jack felt the uncomfortable sensation run across his most ticklish spots.
The boy dropped to his knees almost immediately. He couldn't believe that Donny just did that! If he had his wits about him, there probably would have been quite a few choice words directed at him. Pinching his lips shut and wrapping his arms around his waist, Jack tried his very best to not laugh out loud. His chest was heaving as he tried to breathe. However the boy's face was starting to turn a slight shade of red, and tears were starting to run down his cheeks. He hated to admit it, but he was incredibly ticklish. "Oh- I-I wi-will get y-you back!" Was all he was able to stammer out. As soon as he regained his faculties, Jack would make this dude dance like there was no tommorow!
