Bree took a long look up and down the train cars, mouth agape as she saw the train cars bustling and the students scattering about. Since she was standing still, clinging onto her mother's arm tightly. This was a brand new experience - growing up in a Muggle town and going to Muggle school she had never seen so much magic in one place. Owls flying, wands sending farewells to their master's loved ones - it was all almost too much. It wasn't that she had never seen magic, but it was something special to her and her mother since her father was a Muggle. She looked at her mom, nervously, who smiled down at her, "I was scared too, but I know you can do this." Bree, never one to be brave, was ushered (shoved) into one of the train car openings, but not before she gave her mom a large hug. She knew it was silly to be so scared, realistically this is something she should be excited for, logically it made sense for her to be excited - but she couldn't help being afraid.

After what felt like hours she pulled herself away from her mother and straightened the collar of her shirt. With a kiss on the cheek, she boarded the plan, looking anxiously up and down the rows. Small for her age, it was difficult to navigate the students, especially those who had been on this train four or five times. She dragged her luggage down the rows, wide-eyed, hoping the shock would wear off and she could find a seat with other first years.

Lamik Fillestar waved goodbye to his mum and dad, a wide grin on his face. His mother, one arm wrapped around his father's waist and the other around his ten year old sisters shoulders was very obviously teary eyed, both proud and afraid. Lamik knew that he would not be seeing them for a while, and though that made him extremely sad, the thought of being able to keep communication open with letters calmed his nerves. He was a second year, and the intense changes that he had gone through when first arriving to Hogwarts had been adapted to. The idea of magic being real wasn't outlandish anymore, and the thought of living in an enchanted castle full of mysteries, ghosts, and countless unknowns didn't seem as scary. Of course, Lamik knew that there were things to be afraid of at hogwarts- he had met some of them himself during his first year- but the boy knew that with time came knowlage, and with knowledge came safety.

As Lamik entered the train he realized that he wasn't sure with who to sit. Sure, the Gryffindor could walk around looking for Saskia or Emmy, but that seemed like hard work. Carrying his suitcase to the first empty cabin that he saw, the boy noticed an unfamiliar girl who seemed just as unsure of where to sit. Maybe she's a first year? If she is, I should probably try helping her out. Waving his hand in an attempt to get her attention, Lamik called out: "Hey! Wanna sit with me?"

It wasn't that she was super shy or anything, but she definitely was overwhelmed. The hustle and bustle of a brand new school year excited her, learning was her passion, hard work her strong suit. And yet, here, she felt so out of place. Despite her little bits of knowledge from her mom, she still felt like this was a foreign land. Not only that, but the sound of English accents were also pretty brand new, she was so accustomed to the accents of a small French town, and now it was so much slang she felt almost overwhelmed. Her knuckles were almost white she had a hold on her baggage so tightly when all of a sudden she heard
"Hey! Wanna sit with me?"
That sound was like sunshine on her clouded brain. She raised her hand an inch in a small hello. "Yes! Uh, sure, do you know where an empty seat is?" She wanted to smack her forehead, could she have seemed more alone? She hoped she had not scared off a potential new friend, or at the very least somebody to sit near her so she didn't look like such a nobody. Doing her best to look cool, an eleven-year-old's biggest concern, she gave the kind boy a small smile.

"Right over here." Lamik said, pointing directly besides him to the cabin that he had walked to. It was completely empty, so Lamik opened the door and placed his luggage on one of the benches before turning back to the girl. "Do you want help with your bags?" The boy said while holding the door to the cabin open.

As he looked at her, something similar to curiosity pretty clearly visible on his face, Lamik wondered if he had looked similar when he first ridden to Hogwarts. He was a muggle born, and even after boarding the Hogwarts Express he still wasn't sure that magic was real. All his life he had been told that it wasn't, and until the sorting ceremony the boy truly believed it. This had led to a bit of a strange feeling on his first ride- on one hand, he had been given proof that he was about to go study witchcraft. Real life magic seemed like the coolest thing in existence, and the thought of knowing how to use it had excited him immensely. On the other hand though, it all seemed a bit rediculous. There were no such things as dragons and moving paintings and talking hats. His mind had been conflicted.

Her grin widened as he offered his assistance, she had always been small for her age and her luggage was practically as tall as she was. "That would be quite a help, thank you!" She took ahold of one of the handles so he could grasp the other. She was truly relieved, she assumed she would just have to sit on the luggage the whole train ride since she wouldn't have been able to lift it by herself.

She realized, she didn't even though the young man's name, and again her face reddened. She had forgotten her manners. "Oh, I'm Bree by the way, Bree Oliver. It's my first year, I hope I don't look too stupid." She tried to laugh away her embarrassment, but it probably didn't do too much good. She could feel the confidence radiating out of the young man, obviously someone who had taken this train before, she on the other hand had nothing to that advantage. No friends, no family who had gone to Hogwarts, she wished she could throw herself into the luggage rack and hide. And yet, the boy was friendly and offered his help to her, and she wanted a friend so badly so the long trip to school wasn't so daunting. "And what's your name?"

Lamik stepped towards the bag and held onto the other handle. As he picked it up, the boy made a feigned shocked face. "What are the odds? Bree Oliver is my name too!" He spoke with that standard smile that he usually had on, one that was equally warm and kind as it was mischievous and jokey. Though he had no idea wether others would find the joke funny, he didn't really care. In Lamiks mind, he was the funniest person. The second year obviously knew that this wasn't the case, bit it's not like he would ever admit it to himself. "No but actually- my name is Lamik Fillestar."

Mentally giving himself a high five for correctly guessing that Bree was a first year, Lamik went over how he could help. The first step would probably be figuring out how familiar she was with magic- if she was muggle born, there was was to explain (and maybe even show, if he felt confident enough in his skills). If she had lived her entire life surrounded by magic though, that would be different. Still, Lamik realized that there was something he actually should reassure her of before even that: "What are you talking about though? You look great."

She giggled at his little joke, not because it was necessarily funny but because he was charming. It may also have been partly relief too, knowing she had a friendly person nearby. She helped him hoist the luggage onto the rack and then stuck out her hand, confidence slowly starting to come back to her.
Well it's very nice to meet you, Lamik!

Her hand faltered as he continued talking. She was flustered all over again, his little retort making her feel tiny, shy again. She had never been self conscious but being this close to a boy, one who was so kind to her, she couldn't get her thoughts straight. That didn't make sense, Bree was always logical, never questioning herself because she knew she had reasoned well. But this one little remark and she felt like a fish out of water. Perhaps this was her maturing, hitting puberty, being unable to talk in front of a boy. She bit her lip hard, trying to get ahold of herself, reminding herself she was being silly. Uh, maybe. I don't know, I just uh..am not sure how to do anything here. Everybody looks so comfortable already. She was trying to change the subject, if she could divert it, she could refocus and stop acting stupid, something she always hated doing.

Lamik shook Brees hand as soon as they let the luggage go, not really noticing anything wrong. "It's nice to meet you too!" He said. Once he let go of her hand, the boy closed the cabins door slowly. "It's so loud out there." Lamik turned back around and lifted his own bags from the bench to the rack. After making sure that everything was settled, the boy sat down and looked out the window, checking if he would be able to spot his family sitting somewhere to wait for the train to leave the station or if they had already left.

"Well- you shouldn't worry. I doubt anyone here actually knows what they're doing. The muggle borns, like me, need time to get used to magic again, and while the purebloods and half bloods don't have that, they're still leaving their families for a really long time. That part isn't really much easier this year then it was last year." Giving up on searching for his family, Lamik looked back at Bree. "Out of curiosity- which are you? Muggle born? Wizard born? Half blood?" other then simple, ever present, curiosity, Lamik wanted an answer so that he would know how much Bree would and wouldn't be familiar with.

When he shut the door, she felt calmer. The chaos around her quieted immensely, and here she could refocus herself. She sat down on the opposite side of the second year, her legs tucked underneath her. She aimlessly wandered her eyes to the window as well, mirroring his actions. When he spoke again, she flitted her eyes to him, with a small smile. You really believe that? Not even you know what you're doing? You seem the most confident. She frowned when he talked about family. This was her first time leaving home - she had never been one for summer activities far from home. Usually her family visited family during holidays. She wondered if she would feel brave this year, or if months without her mom and dad, and even her sister would start to get her down.

She pondered his question - she was a half-blood, but the way she was brought up, she felt disconnected to that part of her life. She took a moment to answer, biting her cheeks like she always did when she was in thought. Well, I'm a half-blood, my mother's a witch and my father is a muggle. She thought about telling him more, but decided against it - she was usually one to be reserved in personal conversation. How do your parents feel about you being a wizard? They must be really proud, or impressed, or something.. I think my dad is for sure.

Lamik took a few moments to consider her question. "I wouldn't call it confidence. It's just determination, I guess. Determination to get through the year, learn some cool magic, and get back to my family." He said, thinking back to the times when he though that he was, in fact, not going to get through the year. Though Hogwarts was absolutely spectacular in many ways, Lamik wasn't sure if telling a scared first year all about the time he was caught in a bombing in the abandoned bathrooms was a good idea. If she asked, he would share, but as long as it didn't come up, the boy didn't see a reason to bring it up himself.

Though he was somewhat relieved that Bree was already familiar with magic, Lamik did feel some sort of slight disappointment. Ever since he had come to bearings with his magical surroundings, Lamik had wanted to help out a first year muggle born who was in the same situation that he had once been in- see the wonder in their eyes, or even just distract them from the possible confusion- maybe even fear- that they were going through. Still, Lamik knew that it was good that Bree had an idea of what was going on, and it wasn't like he had anything against half bloods. "They're proud. They're confused though. I don't think they fully believe in magic. In fact, as stupid as it sounds, Im not sure that I do myself."
