Word Count In Homework
If a (history of magic) homework assignment does not specify a word count, whether in rules or in the question itself, there is no word count and therefore you are free to post as little or as much as you wish. However, if it specifically states a word count (ie: RP section asking for 300 words), you must write a minimum of 300 words for that specific section. If the rules state (for example) 50 words per question, every question needs a minimum of 50 words unless otherwise stated.
For clarity, I do not have a word count requirement in my class, and if I do, it will be stated in the question itself rather than in the rules.
Grading Scale
The History of Magic homework follows, or will follow once updates are done, a 10 point grading scale for general homework and a different one for OWLs and NEWTs. For general homework, you can use this general scale for knowledge.
The only reason you would have a troll is if one of three scenarios occur. (1) Plagiarism. You plagiarize or claim someone else's work as your own. (2) Use of AI to write your answers to the questions. If you do, in fact, use a translator, please provide the original work without the translation in a reducio for us to double check. (3) You submitted a blank homework or a nonsensical homework assignment that has nothing to do with what was asked of you.
The consequence of having a Troll is that you do not obtain the spell for free and will have to pay for the spell yourself from the spell shop. Additionally, you will also get zero house points in return when it is graded, and will have a T remaining on your report card.
I Don't Like My Grade, Change It/or/You Gave Me The Wrong Grade!
If you don't like your grade and I did, in fact, give the right grade, I am not going to change the grade. If you feel that I got questions wrong, please OWL me and let me know what it is I got wrong, but I cannot confirm a grade change from this transaction. If I gave the wrong grade on accident, please notify me so I can give you the proper grade.
What do the ! or ~ mean on the report card?
What does Compulsory mean? Compulsory means "required"- even when homework is not required out of character. What Compulsory does, is that it is a requirement for you to do the preq. lesson before you can do the next lesson. When a class is NOT Compulsory, it means that you can choose any of the lessons available in that class to do.
By the way, just for notice- a compulsory lesson has a "!" in it's box. A not compulsory lesson has a "-" in it's box. A graded lesson would have any of the six grading letters in it's box.
Anonymity/Alias/Pseudonym
If a question calls for you to write with a Pseudonym, it's so that we do not identify who you are. We ask you to put in a fake name or to write without any form of identifying features to avoid implications of biasness. An example of a Pseudonym for.. let's say tension between Goblins and Wizards RP. This is mine, do not copy it or use it, at all.
Why is this considered anonymous?
- It does not name drop the account or players onsite, as well as their inpcs or dnpcs, which can be major telling points if we knew about your characters.
- It does not feature the submitter's house
- It does not feature the submitter's school year
- It does not showcase their appearance
Overall, it would not tell you that it was Clark who submitted this roleplay. There are telling signs if you are familiar, yes, but to take precautions to avoid being recognized, anonymity is the best process to follow. So again, if a lesson calls for a pseudonym, avoid identifying features. You can invent a boy named Jesper Haunter and a girl named Patricia Elvis if you so wish but PLEASE note it right below the question exactly what the pseudonym was so we know.

This question simply doesn't match real life!
For examples such as the Putnam family, it may not match what you know in real life, because wizards and muggles don't actually exist, but in our world, they are, in fact witches. All of the answer you will need to answer a question, can be, and will be, found in that lesson. If you have to ctrl+f, then do that. But I encourage you to read the lesson to see why the question or answer is that way.

The goblin growled. He was furious with those... wizards. Why would they call themselves a wizard when they can't cast spells without their wand? Only few can, not many- and that was probably something the Goblin prided himself on regarding the comparison between him and the Wizards. But, the wizards claimed that Godric Gryffindor's sword belonged to them- since Godric possessed the sword.
But that wasn't completely true in the very end.
"RETURN OUR SWORD! HE'S DEAD! GODRIC IS DEAD!" The goblin screamed at the wizards walking by him, when one would turn around.
The wizard that revolved himself bellowed in response. "HE GAVE IT TO US! IT IS AN ICON FOR GRYFFINDOR! IT IS NO LONGER YOURS! WHEN YOU SELL IT- IT IS NOT IN YOUR POSSESSION!"
The Goblin growled. But he didn't yell like he did originally. "When Goblins make something, they expect it back at some point in their life- especially when the customer dies. In this case, it's the godforsaken sword. Return it now."
"You can't possess something that someone bought from you! That's illegal." The man replied back.
To be honest, the goblin had no idea how to respond to that. But he continued on anyways. "Let me rephrase what I said. TO A GOBLIN, an object- the Gryffindor Sword- the one Godric bought from us- can't be kept by the customer permanently. It's seen as a loan. So, return the freaking sword."
The man walked off, laughing at the Goblin- leaving the goblin feeling flabbergasted.

You are year 1, all the lessons have the answers in the lessons. I promise you. Those are all the ones I have rewritten.
However, year 2 and up, I have not rewritten so I cannot guarantee that the answers are in the lesson. I can say that they have been simplified to be easier though.
Regarding Year 1, if you feel like you are conflicted at some of the questions, feel free to owl me. I'm no longer the History of Magic professor though, and a new one will be chosen soon. OR, you can owl the HoM Grader- @Nancy McLoughlin

Good evening, can I in an RP use pseudonymns from the canon books? I don't mean to play the actual characters but just to use the names, like using Griphook and Albus in the example you provided instead of the Goblin and the Wizard.

If I remember correctly, there is only one spell that doesn't have a wand movement, but could be in an rp scene. I'd say a basic point to wherever you want the spell's effect to be would suffice.
