Duelling Beta Test Match 5 - Saskia vs Koko

Welcome everyone to the fifth match of our Duelling Beta Test!

A new Duelling System has been in the making for some time now, and starting today we are finally able to show you what the team has been working on. Places as testers have been offered to the top students of the month of May, of which so far all have taken to the task with great enthusiasm.

We will be playing the test duels with the new 6 Stat System, as some of you may already be aware of. This is a First Year test match, putting the participant's stats to either 30 or 35 points depending on whether the duelists choose to be a special race or not. A minimum of 1 point in Stamina is required, and the maximum amount of points in a single stat is limited to 10. Abilities are not yet included in this test.

THE DUELLING STATS
THE STATS EXPLAINED
For these tests, we will be testing out a new 6 stat system. Please read the details below to understand them.

Stamina: This stat determines a player’s durability. In duels, this will determine a combatants health. This is your health points in a duel.

Evasion: The stat determines a player’s ability to physically react and move quickly. In duels this will determine a combatants chance to dodge an incoming spell. This will help you dodge incoming spells.

Strength: This stat determines a player’s physical ability to hold or lift. This stat is unlikely to be used in duels as the rules don’t allow for physical contact between duellers. This is not currently used in duels.

Wisdom: This determines a player’s skill at spell-casting, accounting for things like correct incantation and wand movement in a duel. This will determine casting success. This will help you successfully cast the spell in the first place.

Arcane Power: A measurement of magical potency. This will determine spell damage. This will determine how much damage your spell does.

Accuracy: A stat which will determine a spell’s chance to make contact with an opponent. This will help you to hit your opponent.

You can become whatever you want, its like magic... unless the "whatever" is a beater, then i'mma bash your face in with a bat.

Arc Perscivious yawned on his seat as he waited for all the other students to find a seat of their own. He did come early as usual and the duel wouldn’t start until ten more minutes. It took quite some time until the Duelling Club room to be filled to the brim and the dark-haired boy almost finished the novel he was reading. He closed the book and surveyed his surroundings. It was probably the right time to start. The students were starting to get angsty and noisy as there was no sign of any Professors to judge the match.

The lanky boy stood up and walked to the duelling podium. He could feel the eyes moved towards him and the noise lessen somewhat. Good. “Ehem,” started Arc. “I am Arc Perscivious, Ravenclaw, Prefect. I’ll be the judge of this match. And I would like for Ms. Saskia Nicholson and Ms. Koko Riddle to join me to the podium.”

He was not sure whether or not he was a capable judge but he had agreed to this. He had learnt and prepared all he could, but he still prayed nothing bad would happen to his fellow year-mates. It only took a few seconds for the two girls to walk to the 'Duelling Ring' and they stood facing each other. Thank the gods they followed his instruction. It would be mighty embarrassing if they didn’t.

“I assume you both know the rules,” said the boy while looking from one side to the other. “I will stop the match and intervene if anyone breaks them and the rule breaker will be disqualified. Have I made myself clear?” Arc gave a pause for the two duellists, but it was a rhetorical question.

“Begin.” The dark-haired boy said with a stern, echoing voice after taking a step back.

Koko wasn't sure why she had wanted to duel. Certainly she would be terrible at it, but she couldn't give up now. Definitely not after the judge, Arc, called her up to the podium.

Koko made her way up, taking her time. She breathed deeply, trying to calm her nerves. She already had her wand in her left hand, which she hoped might make her opponent a little confused, especially if Koko switched hands later. That was a good thing about being ambidextrous; one could use both hands fairly equally.

Koko would be Duelling a Hufflepuff. It surprised her a small amount that a Hufflepuff would hurt someone, but she supposed she shouldn't have been surprised. She shouldn't stereotype the Badgers.

Koko got into a stance as Arc said for them to begin. She was still wondering what spell to cast, but she would first glance over her opponent. She didn't know much about the Hufflepuff, who Arc had named as Saskia, so Koko would probably go defensive at first. Defense was the best offense in her opinion. Just enough to distract her opponent, that was what Koko was looking for. Perhaps a hex, or maybe a blinding spell...

"Verdimillious!"

Saskia wasn't sure what she expected when she agreed to take part in a duel. As much as she liked these kinds of activities that got her blood pumping, she knew she wasn't very good at staying in control of herself. It probably had something to do with her restlessness- she couldn't sit still for very long, and because of this, it was rather difficult for her to concentrate. She could try, at least for now, but it probably wouldn't do much good if she was stuck in a fast-paced situation like this.

Following the Prefect's orders, she stepped on the platform, wearing a small, yet determined smile on her face. She was nervous, yes, but that didn't mean she had to let it get to her. It was only a duel. It wasn't going to affect the rest of her life, unless she somehow seriously injured herself. It wasn't likely to happen though, given the safety regulations, so she wasn't too worried. Besides, she faced a lot of other injuries in the past. A few spells, however dangerous they could be, wouldn't scare her.

Saskia took the opportunity to look at her opponent. She didn't think she ever saw her before, although from what Arc mentioned, her name was Koko. She looked prepared, with her wand gripped in her left hand, albeit she appeared somewhat nervous as well. But right now, she was casting the first spell in the duel.

"Verdimillious!"

Saskia had to act fast. She didn't know any spells that could directly counter it, but she could try to dodge it. Although she wasn't confident that she'd be able to evade the spell, especially considering how fast it would have been cast. But maybe she could do something else. It might not have been the smartest idea, but she didn't know any other options. At best, it would cause a distraction for her opponent and give her enough time to evade any further attacks if the spell managed to hit her. At worst, she'd be blinded by the bright green lights, though she would still be able to dodge any further spells the Slytherin had to cast. Hopefully.

Waving her wand in a quick motion, she called out, "Fumos!"

The boy closed his eyes just in time for the green spark to explode. It was a good execution of the spell. Unfortunately, the movement was telegraphed and people paying attention would be able to evade being blinded.

Closing his eyes, though, would make Arc didn't see what was coming next. The other girl, Saskia, used the Smokescreen Spell. A cloud of smoke flew forth from the tip of her wand, dousing and shrouding the entire podium. The blanket of smoke would reduce the visibility for everyone and the duellists accuracy would visibly drop.

Pun intended.

Saskia braced for impact, anticipating the green lights that were about to come her way. Fortunately for her, the sparks were quite easy to dodge, and instead, the girl swiftly moved out of the way, preventing the lights from blinding her. At least she didn't have to enact her backup plan of running around the platform like a madwoman if the sparks hit her. Now she could actually concentrate. Well, mostly.

The entire podium was filled with dark smoke, and Saskia could barely see a thing under the heavy haze. She could make out a faint outline of Koko, but even then, it would have been difficult to properly aim if the Slytherin was quick enough. Still, her opponent would have a similar disadvantage, and surely enough, it would also be difficult for Koko to aim her spell. That was unless the other girl had immaculate accuracy, but seeing as she missed her previous spell, Saskia was slightly optimistic. Not that it would make her drop her guard.

The girl took a deep breath, careful not to accidentally choke in all the smoke. She could go for the offensive and cause some damage, though it would still be difficult to actually have the spell hit in this smoke. Maybe she could try to slow her down? Put her at a bigger disadvantage somehow? Or could she simply dodge the rest of the Slytherin's attacks until the fumes cleared out? Saskia mentally sighed. She wasn't the best strategist, and that might end up being her downfall in this duel. But she still had to try something. She wasn't going to go down without a fight.

Gripping her wand, she waved it once again and shouted, "Rictumsempra!"

She just hoped the spell would actually hit.

Koko wasn't ticklish. That was what she told herself after hearing Saskia cast the Tickling Charm. But the twelve-year-old knew that if the spell was successful, Koko would have obviously lied to herself.

How to counter, how to counter? That was another good question. Koko had a bunch of spells she could use, but she wasn't sure that she wanted to nullify this charm yet. Plus, the smoke would make anything hard. Koko could see a vague outline if the Hufflepuff, but that was all. Koko had no need to ruin her vision further - she knew the other girl was suffering as much as she was. So she needed something that would last longer. "Mucus ad Nauseam!" Koko shouted, waving her wand at the other girl. Curse of The Bogies. She hoped that would mess with the other girl's head. It was more or less something to confuse her while Koko thought of a strategy, so Koko was honestly fine with it if her spell didn't hit the intended target. It probably wouldn't, because Koko couldn't even see her too well... Stupid smokescreen. Then it occurred to her that if she couldn't see Saskia, Saskia couldn't see her.

With renewed confidence, a smile spread across Koko's face. She could do this.

The podium was filled with smoke and everything was hazy. But being in the sideline, it was a tad bit easier for Arc to discern where the two girls were. Saskia Nicholson tried to use the tickling charm while her opponent, Koko Riddle, would try to cast the Curse of the Bogies. Only one spell succeeded, though. A silver light flew from the tip of Saskia's wand and it would hit Koko squarely on her tummy, taking the breath out of her.

The gut-wrenching push would not be the last thing she felt of that spell, though. Arc certainly hoped the young Slytherin girl was not ticklish.
