Don't Look Down
When she feels like she needs to think things through carefully, Fumiko would take a walk to a place with a lot of water. Previously, it would be her residence private park where a lake was built. Swans were kept there and neatly trimmed flower bushes surrounded the lakeThis is a private and planned RP between Fumiko Tachibana and Corliss Callender . Please understand not to intervene but if you want, please feel free to read!![]()
Now that she's staying in Hogwarts, she had no idea where to go.
And it was ticking her off
Fortunately, while visiting the library she came across the ' Library Rules and Expectations ' . They mentioned someone being forced to find a library book they had thrown into the Great Lake. This sparked some energy into the girl to find the said lake.
Although the mention of merfolk not being ' accommodating ' creeped her out, she quickly assured herself they were some sort of lifeguards for the Great Lake.
She would consider herself lucky if she ever saw merfolks. They seem very protective of the Great Lake but they wouldn't harm her right?
With a positive attitude, she set out her mission to find the lake, asking a few seniors for directions on the way. When she finally found it, the sight she saw really was mesmerizing.
This truly was a ' Great Lake '.
A large body of sparkling deep blue and green water. The sun rays made it glitter and the green meadows behind them just made the scene more majestic.
Fumiko walked down the shore. She stopped at the very edge of the shore, where the water could barely touch her shoes The deafening silence and fresh mixed smell of the greens and water made her stop at the edge, inhaling slowly.
And exhaling out.
She didn't realize how tired she felt until her legs urged her to collapse. She made sure to sit where the water wouldn't touch her Hogwarts uniform and rested her legs where they could splash in the water.
She couldn't care less about her socks getting wet.
She's been in Hogwarts for a while now. She met such interesting people, including the ones she didn't want to see often. A lot of things surprised her such as the ghost that randomly appears, or the stairways that move by themselves, the moving pictures, etc.
She was thankful to see other muggle-borns here, if she didn't she was sure she would feel inferior to the other wizards and witches who were used to seeing whatever she gawked at.
Her father told her once if she feels like her mind is too loud, she should take some time for herself and make it shut up. She thinks this his way of telling her to think calmly and give herself some peace no one else can give.
...
" Damn, that old man just had to come to mind " she hissed unconsciously.
Irritated, she took the nearest pebble and threw it in the lake, watching as it made a loud splash and sank to the bottom.
She wished she could skip the rocks. How lovely would that be to see rocks fly as far as they could before they sank into the bottom
It felt a bit inspirational to her. What if rocks wanted to fly? They keep trying even though they know they'll sink anyway. At least they kept trying.
Unlike her
Even that Sorting Hat said it
She closed her eyes and once again inhaled the nice fresh air her surroundings gave her, resting her head on her shoulder.
' My does this feel good.. '
The only thing that could ruin this moment is someone interrupting her.
She was certain there was no one here though so she once again let her mind rest. She felt so...so tired...of pretending. So...very...tired..

So sorry for the late reply! Also sorry for the short one.
Corliss swore to herself she wasn’t wandering. At least not when she knew where she was going. She wouldn’t be lost again. She wouldn’t let herself get lost, no matter what.
She noticed the crunch, crunch, crunch of her steps too late. Her feet weren’t on the smooth, wooden brown floor of the Hogwarts classes and hallways. Her feet weren’t following the map she had visualized. Her feet were acting on its own accord.
Now to see where she was going. She saw the vast green ground, accommodating a few little birds on some of its taller grass. She saw the line of dark trees barely in her line of sight—was it the Forbidden Forest? Alright, she had to avoid that. She noticed the bright white sky on top of her, the sun barely visible. She noticed the cool air rushing through her pale face, faint and barely noticeable.
She was on the grounds.
She panicked on the thought of someone seeing her there. Was there any rules against walking here? Was there something dangerous, maybe? But she shook the thoughts away. No, she had read the rules as thoroughly as she possibly can. There is no way she could miss any type of rules possible.
She was about to turn around when she noticed a faint glimmer on the corner of her eye. What was that? She jerked her head to her right, only to see an enormous body of water. It was a shade of deep blue and green, looking so deep it could fit an entire castle inside. It's vastness was what caught her eye. How could something be as big as that?
It was not too long before the pale girl walked to the lake, enjoying every step of the way. She liked being outdoors, especially in this hopeful weather. She liked the sound of her shoes stepping roughly on the green grass. She liked the birds who had come to sing the same happy tune over and over.
She hadn’t realized the other girl there.
“What are you doing?” was what her mouth could form. Her hand twitched to cover her mouth, but she thought better of it. She whole body tightened and straightened. She practically held her breath.
Panic.

Pshhhh it's alrighttt @Corliss Callender ! RP can't be done 24/7 right? hhahah I'm just glad you continued the rp~ I thought you were just going to leave me hanging and that you weren't serious about the rp ahahhOCC NOTE :![]()
Ah, how annoying. Why is it every time she wanted to be alone, someone just had to ruin it?
Fumiko still had her eyes closed but she clearly heard the girl speak. It sounded soft and nervous, she noted. Without moving much, she lazily opened an eye to see the one that interrupted her.
Another Hufflepuff. A lost one from the looks of it. She covered her mouth like she said something she wasn't supposed too.
Was she shy? Or did she saw Fumiko’s tiny tantrum?
Oh dear that won’t do. She worked too hard to imply this ‘ ordinary good Hufflepuff ‘ image and this girl wasn’t going to ruin that now
Fumiko felt her mood sour at the thought of having to act like a 'good girl ' again in front of the Hufflepuff girl, but hid it rather well with the warm smile she gave her.
" Hahahah, why do you look like I'm about to force feed you puke flavoured jellybeans? " she chuckled as her eyes travelled back to her feet, where her ankles felt cold from the wet socks she's wearing.
She looked at the girl again " Don't mind me. I just like water " she vaguely explained but she held no irritation in her voice. Perks of being a good actor.
“ Fumiko Tachibana ! “ she introduced cheerfully “ What about you? What's your name? It’s always nice to meet another Hufflepuff ~ “ if she wasn’t in such a foul mood and brilliantly concealing it so much she would’ve offered the Hufflepuff girl a seat next to her. She didn’t even move from her previous position.
“Are you...lost perhaps? Usually no one comes here unless they are “ she asked kindly with a smile.
Please say yes please say yes please say yes
That way, Fumiko could point to a random direction for her to follow and just hope it’s the way back to the castle

Don't Look Down
Corliss calmed down a little after Fumiko saying everything, though she was still nervous as ever. She should probably do a little bit of meditation, following her mother’s usually wise advise. But she wouldn't do that after a long time, maybe out of habit. She always followed the same schedule over and over again and it was always hard to adapt her schedule with current events and such. Her mother always said, “Adaptation is a skill you would always be grateful for,” but it never motivated Corliss very much. After all, there are more important skills, such as working the best of your ability and multitasking. Adaptation shouldn’t rival with any of those, right?
“Er, not really,” said Corliss, thinking it was a slightly silly question. Why would you ask if someone is lost immediately after you try to introduce yourself? But Corliss herself hadn’t introduced herself yet. She thought it was quite rude to leave someone hanging after a warm greeting. “Um, Corliss, by the way. My name.”
She silently cursed herself. What a way to say your name! Oh, here’s my name. That was my name, by the way, if you didn’t catch that. If there was one insult from anyone to Corliss which was well-deserved, it is this one. “You’re better off without talking at all.”
Corliss, thinking of too colorful ways to insult herself in every way possible, was barely aware of her surroundings. Not surprising, is it? Her previously keen eyes would notice the lake getting slightly darker. She would notice the waves getting slightly sharper. She would notice the very low voice of the squid far below, pondering what to do with the poor girl who had dipped her feet inside its domain. Perhaps the merpeople would wonder, if they were paying attention to the squid’s ponderings, why the squid would even think of drowning such an innocent girl.
It was only a miracle the tentacles of the dark squid hadn’t taken action yet.

Ah... why couldn't she just say she was lost?
She couldn't help but be amused of the girl's odd way of introducing herself, of course she kept it inside and smiled a bit to make it seem like she didn't even notice.
" Corlis...Corliss...Callender was it? The one with the nice name~ " she softly chuckled " S-sorry, it was just the one name I actually remembered at the Sorting Hat Ceremony. I'm not good with names, you see. 1st year like me right? I couldn't help but admire your name. It sounds like a name someone famous would have " she beamed
yes yes compliment her name so she wouldn't think you're being rude if you subtly ask her to leave
" If...you're not here because you're lost then why are you here ?" she faked a genuine question, making sure it was in a kind tone. " Are you tired then? Hogwarts homework is not something anyone takes lightly " she gave out a low disappointing sigh " Seeing the lake helps your ease up don't you think? " she gave the girl a small smile like she hoped Corliss would agree.
If Fumiko wasn't so busy trying to figure out ways to subtly make the girl piss off, she would probably notice how her wet socks now had some sort of pressure on them, gliding their way up her ankle, starting to tightly wrap around it.

Don't Look Down
“Seeing the lake helps you ease up, don’t you think?”
The lake sure seems nice, I guess. Corliss looked back to the lake. She thought for a moment how deep it is, how lonely some may be. What would be on the bottom? Is it dark, maybe light in there? Is it pleasant or torturous? Is the giant squid laughing at how humans have it worse than itself?
Or is it trying to drown such an innocent girl?
Corliss’s keen eyes noticed the black rope-like... Thing. Saving Fumiko wasn’t the first thought which had come to Corliss’s mind. Instead, she thought about how it would feel in her position. Would it be cold inside or surprisingly warm? Would it hurt for the rope-like thing to wrap itself onto her week leg?
Or would it be a quick death?
Corliss straightened and her mind quickened. Her brain reached blindly for something to say. What would she say? She couldn’t just warn her. She would panic immediately. Her mother used to say, “Panic is a leading cause of immediate death.”
Morbid, yes, but useful. Calmness is a great thing, especially if you want to not die. Yes, maybe that would be what Corliss said. But wait, Fumiko wouldn’t know what she’d be talking about. Corliss would still do it. Confusion is better than panic.
“Calm down,” said Corliss.
It was probably the wrong thing to say.

Fumiko’s brain didn’t mind the fact that Callender suddenly told her to calm down like she knew something was wrong that Fumiko didn’t.
What Fumiko’s brain did mind is the fact that Callender just completely ignored her compliment.
Was the girl smarter than Fumiko thought? Why doesn’t she look flattered ?! Why didn’t her charm work?!?
Did Fumiko lost her touch?
Has she been too confident in her acting skills that it’s performance decreased without her knowing?
Should she really just suck up her foul mood and let Callender sit next to her?
God this girl is so annoying
“ E-excuse me?” For once in her life, she couldn’t hold back the irritation laced in her tone.
Her day was ruined from the start.
She woke up with terrible bed head, she was late for class, got shoved by the shoulder by an older Ravenclaw student, and if that wasn’t enough thoughts about her bloody father started consuming her mind all day and it drove her mad
Yes top it all off with an annoyingly persistent Hufflepuff with a nice name blast this world just blast it right now.
"No- no- no. You do not ask me to calm down today I swear this is the worst day for anyone to tell me ' calm down ' " she hissed, her eyes furrowed at Callender like she was the reason for her bad mood.
She wanted to yell.
She wanted to scream.
She wanted to cry.
But she couldn't.
No matter how bad her mood is right now she couldn't bear to scream at the girl with her rational side repeating :
It's not her fault
Callender wasn't the reason why her parents did what they did. Callender had nothing to with them. She's just an innocent bystander that approached Fumiko at the wrong time . She probably has such a sweet warm heart that Fumiko didn't deserve to even get close too.
Despite knowing this, Fumiko didn't soften her expression on the innocent Hufflepuff. With the exception of the tears that glossed over her eyes, threatening to come out

Yeah, that was the wrong move.
At least panic was better than this. It was all her fault too. If only she just pointed it out. That’s right, you don’t deserve to talk to anyone at all, some part of brain seemed to think. You’re better off, silent at the back of the class, failing at everything you tried so hard to do.
No, it wasn’t her fault. At least, not all of it. Okay, maybe it is. But that’s not helping in this situation. This girl would die if no one saw her. Nobody would notice. Nobody would even remember until the last possible moment.
Let her die, said the irrational side of her. It was her fault she couldn’t understand. She’s better off forgotten.
But Corliss knew it was wrong. It was all wrong. The girl didn’t do anything wrong, it was only Corliss’s poor wording. It could be fixed. Misunderstandings aren’t permanent. The problem is how to fix it without her panicking. What could she say? “That’s not what I meant”?
It even sounded empty to her.
Screw it. Who cares if she panics? It’s better than nothing happening at all. In fact, it’s better than anything else. If they all identify the problem, they can fix it. You can’t save anyone when no one knows why they are in trouble. But Corliss had to pluck up her courage. She can’t sound scared. It would only make the girl even more scared.
But the rope-like tentacle was getting tighter and tighter... Slowly, it pulled back to the squid and—
Quicker.
It was getting quicker.
Eyeing the girl’s leg, Corliss cried in desperation: “WAIT!”
Was she too late?

This was so bad oml please forgive me I don't write a lot of actionOOC NOTE
One second, Fumiko's dark eyes glared at an innocent Hufflepuff and then the next, she felt like her socks weren't the only thing that got wet
The forceful tug on her ankle shocked her speechless, but her instincts kicked in and she dug her fingers in the dirt, desperately trying to pull half her body up from the water.
She felt the grime dirt and stones pressed into her fingernails she was sure were threatening to bleed.
" I...ah " those were the only things Fumiko could mumble out.
She didn't know what to think .
What to feel.
Some sort of creature is currently tugging half her body underwater and could drown her right now and all she's doing it pulling herself back by torturing her fingers.
And all that her mind could think about is how similier her current mind state is when the sorting hat pressured her too answer his dumb question .
She even forgot another person was there with her. A person that could help her if she just asked her too.
Why does she feel like she doesn't even deserve her help.
She felt the creature trying to tug her down more, 'grab the dirt harder' she heard her rational side say 'you're still 11' 'and have a whole life in front of you claw your way out even if your nails just break apart it's worth it! '
is it? is it really
she just felt tired
deep in thought, she didn't realise her fingers loosening their grip .

Don't Look Down
Alright, Corliss was now panicking. What could she do? She didn’t have the strength or grip to pull the girl out. One part of her realized only she can pull her out. There was no one else on the Grounds, only Corliss and Fumiko. She knew she should try to save her, but at what cost? If she couldn’t save her, she might as well be dragged along with her.
But looking at the girl, half her body already inside the water, Corliss knew she already had her whole life ahead of her. She knew the girl could find love, peace, and even glory. But if she only stood there, she would take that away. Standing there is bound to kill the girl. She would stand there, watching the girl as she drowned. The girl would blame her and no one else. Corliss would be the last face she ever saw. The last face she ever saw would be her killer.
And Corliss would drag her life along, knowing she had killed an innocent girl. A young girl who probably would’ve seen fame and glory in her distant future. A girl who had depended her life on Corliss. A girl who would hate Corliss for the rest of her afterlife. And the girl would pass on, knowing she was killed by a fellow first-year, a fellow witch like her. She was probably a muggleborn who saw a bright future ahead of her. And that future would be snatched away, taken by a person who had stood still, watching her as she sank to the bottom of the lake, forgotten.
Forgotten. The girl would be forgotten. Her life would lead to this moment, all forgotten as it was snuffed away. Like a candle among many others. Blown away effortlessly by a single person. And no one would care. After all, there are many other candles to care for, right?
Corliss was a proud Hufflepuff. If she only stood there, she would be unworthy to go into the common room. Unworthy to be named a Hufflepuff. Unworthy of everything she gained from the Sorting Hat. She would know, for the rest of her life, that the Sorting Hat was wrong.
But did she want that life? Could she live the rest of her life, lying to herself? Saying to herself that she didn’t kill the girl?
No, she didn’t. Not only because she thought of herself. But because she didn’t deserve a longer life than the girl. They both had the chance to live a good life. So what if she was dragged onto the bottom of the lake? They would live a life, knowing none of them had killed anyone else. They would get a peaceful afterlife with each other, knowing the world was kind.
It was only a second before Corliss ran up to Fumiko and attempted to pull her out.
Well, perhaps an eleven-year-old who rarely even exercised couldn’t rival a gigantic squid. She knew from the start she couldn’t rival anyone with strength itself. She knew it right after she was born. Yes, that statement was clearly exaggerated. But that wasn’t important in this particular situation. What could she do now? It’s not like she could bend the laws of physics.
“What do I do?” Corliss said aloud, though quietly. “I’m not strong enough...”
