It was a few days after the Christmas holidays, but Luna needed to go to the owlery. Reason? Sending an owl of course. However, the person who got this owl won't be her mother or father. Not friends either, how could she send an owl to her friend when she didn't even have one? This one was only for her little brother. Why? Yes, she agreed that her relationship with him was better than her relationship with her parents, but she usually sent owls to all of them, no one was left behind. The reason was that she accidentally left one of her favorite books at home, and she needed him to send it to her.
When Luna was going to give the letter to one of the owls, she noticed that it was snowing. Beautiful... This was the reason why she loved winter. Although it was usually cold and wearing too many clothes was quite uncomfortable, it would not change that the views were really nice. And... her gaze turned to the owl in front of her. "You should be happy. I actually do not think that it is necessary." After giving him a pat, Luna put the letter back on her bag and sighed. She actually really wanted to read it...
Whatever.
She turned back and was going to leave. She went here to send an owl and did not realize that the weather was actually bad. Her fault, couldn't blame anyone. And since she wouldn't send any more, why should she stay here? There could be some better stuff to do...
Just because I said you were bad does not mean that I am mean. It shows that I am honest.

A long loud string of swear words went echoing up the stairs. The source was a small girl with bright blue hair lying somewhere on the owlery steps, having tripped over the edge of the stairs. There weren't any cuts mostly just bruises from where she'd hit her knees and elbows and some scrapes from where she'd slid backwards a few steps. Elena Jones wasn't exactly having the best day, and falling up the stairs were just making it worse.
She just wanted to check for letters, is that too much to ask? To see if she had an opportunity at family, Gringotts sealed envelopes had appeared for some people around the school meaning hers should be just up the stairs. Elena just decided to lay there somewhere on the stairs and have a little sob, well not a sob persay, more of a silent cry in which she lay there and mentally screamed at her surroundings. You know, like a mentally healthy person would.
After a minute, Elena got up and started to trudge up the stairs, hoping that nobody heard her turn the air as blue as her hair. It probably wasn't against the rules but it was better to be safe than sorry.

She heard someone screaming. Or maybe crying? No, it was more like screaming and swearing... from a girl. Luna was sure that she had never heard this voice, which meant it was not from someone she knew. Going down and helped them, although she did not know what was bothering them? Nope, definitely not what she would do. First of all, it was rude. Imagined you were swearing and then someone just suddenly jumped in and asked to help you? That would be really rude to her. Second, they might feel embarrassed. A stranger was hearing you swearing, that knowing that would make that person embarrassed. Nodded at herself, Luna decided to stand there and just waited for that person to stop swearing.
Silent. It was really silent as if nothing just happened. Did that mean that person was gone? She was not really sure, but the little snake decided to act like she didn't hear anything and started going downstairs. Luna usually walked lightly, even when she was not doing anything wrong, so hearing her footstep was quite immposible.
She could see a girl on the way. Wearing the Slytherin Uniform, which meant this girl belonged to her house. Beautiful blue hair... A Slytherin with blue hair, sounded quite familiar, maybe she had heard of her somewhere? Realizing that she was staring at her, Luna looked away confusedly. That was actually quite rude, staring at a stranger like that...

Elena finally reached the top of the stairs, some slytherin girl was hanging around the stairs. She must've heard the impressively colourful language Elena could bring to bear under the right circumstances. Elena waved politely at her on the way past, "Hiya."
The letter was predictably in the box for her dorm, and she opened it up to see what the answer was. Still disowned, of course, Elena sighed and put it in her pocket. Not unexpected but somehow blunted by the fact her other pocket had a letter for Griffith about something mundane to do with a book. Maybe Rowan was right about all that stuff to do with choosing your family. She gave the letter to the owl, "I'm Elena, sorry for the language, I just really hate tripping over the damn stairs. The owlery is nice when it's not freezing, and when you don't just, wreck yourself on the stairs."
Almost anyone would blame the way too big cloak the young girl was sporting, although it was not the culprit this time. More the snow that'd drifted its way inside onto the stairs, the wind had relaxed a little bit now though, leaving just some annoying little puddles inside.

What a surprise. It didn't seem like the blue hair girl was bothered that she heard everything, right? Well... that was a good new, she guessed? Luna was going to go out of the owlery. She had done what she needed, and Ray probably was being a good boy sitting on her bed. She felt kind of sorry for him, no one but she knew how much he liked flowers but finding flowers in this week was impossible. That was why she didn't want to leave him alone like that. He couldn't get what he wanted, that was why she wanted him to at least spend being able to spend time with her. But her action was interrupted by the girl again.
Elena... Why didn't she give her last name? Talked about that, she knew another Elena too, but that girl belonged to the Gryffindor House. They hadn't met since that time on the Grounds, really wonder how she was right now? Anyway, "I see. My name is Luna, Luna Choi. It is really normal, tripping in this weather. The Hospital Wings is right there for you if you need help." Though, she didn't think Elena needed. The blue hair girl managed to climb the stairs to go here and even did her stuff in the Owlery, would she really need help?

Elena finished giving the letter to Valek, the tiny owl was ready to go and made a little tiny shriek noise, very cute. Elena patted his head and fed him another owl treat before standing back to let him fly off. Carting off a letter that didn't really matter to someone who mattered entirely too much.
"Nice to meet you Luna, I wish it wasn't after I'd already demonstrated my ability with French." Elena smiled a little at her own joke, "I don't think I'll need the hospital wing quite yet, nothing a bit of bruise ointment and swearing can't fix yeah?"
Elena realised she was starting to speak cockney instead of high class English, she coughed, re-establishing her previous speaking voice, "I certainly hope it's not too normal, I could do without tripping over every few days. Usually I'm a lot more acrobatic than that though, lordy."
Speaking for that long meant Valek returned with a letter in reply, Elena safely put that in her pocket and waited for something to happen, she didn't feel like going back down the stairs just yet. Instead opting to talk to her owl, and feed him treats, and snuggle the little creature. You know, like normal owl owners, who snuggle their owls...

"It is my please to meet you... Elena. And you just said, French?" It took Luna a few seconds to understand what the girl meant. Merlin, she had never been good with jokes. She usually took things seriously, which was why she had never made any jokes in her life. Not to mention, people around her rarely made jokes either. That was embarrassing. "Oh, I see."
That was true, Elena didn't need to visit the Hospital Wing with this injury. As she explained on her head before and as the girl just said, it was totally unnecessary to go there.
"It's winter. Tripping over is normal." To be honest, Luna hadn't tripped at all. Rolled her eyes, she decided not to say it. Why? Wasn't it obvious? That was like showing off, and that was not something she would do. At least, not now.
Acrobatic? To be honest, she rarely went out and did some sports. The girl preferred to stay at home reading or doing something else but sporting. Although sometimes, she still had to go out with her little brother or father.
The owl came back. That was pretty fast, it had to have a good flying skill or the person who would receive that letter was near here. If the answer was the second, it could be a professor or a student. Probably a professor, since meeting another student was not that hard. Talked about the professor... "Professor Jensen..." She mumbled, but it was not really hard for Elena to hear it. If Luna was not wrong, she wanted to talk with her about something... But what was it again?

"Sorry that was a really bad joke." Elena laughed nervously, "Yes indeed, I just need to figure out a way to stop slipping. Maybe if I attached some of those sticky gel dot things to my shoes..."
Elena considered this for a moment, while she did so she fidgeted with her letter. Then the prefect, Luna said something about Professor Jensen.
"Jensen? What about her?" Elena looked at her letter, then held it up, "If you were wondering, the letter's from Morfran Griffith. I wanted some book recommendations, and also for someone to talk to after that rather explosive mess courtesy of the Ravenclaw kid. He's nice, nicer than the others, actually cares about people. Risa's good too, they both have good souls."
It may seem a little derogatory to the other professors but when espousing the virtues of the Magizoologist, it seemed a small price to pay. Also Elena had no trust for the majority of professors due to the simple fact nobody decided a street kid was something to worry about, no that's fine I'm sure, totally ignore that.
All in all, Elena was a bitter child who loved Griffith and hated almost every other authority figure. Which probably wasn't a good thing.

Sorry for the late, I was busy back then ;;
"Nothing much, Professor Jensen... She is a great Head of the House." Since the thing that she wanted to talk about with her had nothing to do with Elena, Luna decided to say something else about her. After all, she didn't like the Head of The Slytherin House but didn't hate her either. Just neutral.
And Professor Jensen was not the only one, with her, all professors in Hogwarts were just some people who helped her and other students with living in Hogwarts because that was their job. Nothing else, so having opinions about them was unnecessary to her.
The Ravenclaw kid? She hadn't heard of it, and she didn't want to know it either. It didn't sound like it would be something that she needed to know. The fact that Elena wanted to have some book recommendations proved that she was not bad student. It wasn't too hard to see that Elena's favorite professors were Professor Griffith and Professor Risa.
Luna was surprised that the Slytherin girl just easily shared with her the contents of her letter. If she were Elena, although the letter wasn't about something important, she wouldn't simply share it with someone she had just met a few minutes ago.

No worries my dear, all good. Sorry I took even longer.
Elena smiled a little weakly, “I wouldn’t know, haven’t gone and talked to her or anything.”
Oh well, now was not the time to stick around for a chat. The cold seeped into Elena’s bones causing even the thick winter cloak she wore to be unable to ward off the ice slipping through her veins. A warm heart could only save you for so long, she knew that.
The girl took a tentative step towards the stairs, and smiled a lot more cheerfully at Luna, “It’s been quite a joy meeting you Luna, and I hope to see you around. Nice to see some people from my house that are... nice.”
That was true enough, most people were a little rude, standoffish, even Elena herself had an abrasive personality at times. Enough to alienate a few people over time, Aurelia, Landon, Imani. Too many people gone too quickly because she couldn’t quite keep her tongue.
With that Elena waved goodbye and took off down the stairs, eager to find a warm spot in the small hall, and far away from the frozen Winter air that took up the atmosphere of the owlery, as well as the Slytherin common rooms, and the grounds.
Elena leaves the thread but can be stopped! :3
