The first meet

Celeste got off from the stool. Taking her hat off and handing it to the next student to be sorted. She walked towards the slytherin table from where she heard claps and cheers.
She happily walked towards the slytherin table. Celeste had always wanted to be sorted into slytherin just like her mother had during her time at hogwarts.
She was filled with excitement as she reached the section of the table reserved for the newly sorted First years to sit at.
Celeste took a seat next to a First-year girl with long wavy black silky hair. Who was looking down at her food and not paying to the rest of the sorting ceremony. She seemed to be lost in her thoughts.
Celeste thought that she recognized the girl but she couldn't pinpoint from where. It could have been from the hogwarts express or from when they were waiting in the small hall.
Celeste put on her best smile and lightly tapped the girls shoulder not understanding that it was not nice to get someone to acknowledge you by tapping their shoulder. "Hello, My name's Celeste. Celeste Dearborn. Whats your name?" Celeste asked and shoved her hand in front of the girl.

The first meet
Elisha had been thinking about how tiring the Sorting was. Not only were they crammed together in the middle of the Great Hall, but they also had to stand around while waiting for their names to be called. Fortunately, her name was one that were called early. She couldn't imagine being one of the last.
With how many first years have shown up for the sorting ceremony, she was sure that her legs would have cramped by the end of it. Ugh, she didn't even have the energy to eat the food prepared on the table. Pity, it even looked so appetizing and smell so delicious.
'At the very least, I have to fill my stomach with something. Maybe a drink or two would be enough.' She thought as she glanced at the student taking a rather loud sip at the other table.
Just as she thought of reaching for the drink, a light tap on her shoulder had snapped her awareness back to her own surroundings. She looked at the girl next to her with her hand shoved in front of her.
She has a black medium length hair, tan complexion, and a freckles. Her face was a round-squarish face paired with round light pink lips and hooded black eyes. She looked cute, and bit taller than her too.
"What?" Elisha scrunched up her brows in confusion. She had said something right?

The first meet

Celeste stared at the girl who was now facing her with a confused expression on her face. As her eyes met the girl's. She realised the girl had beautiful amber.
Awkwardly smiling, Celeste repeated her words. "Hello, My name's Celeste. Celeste Dearborn. Whats your name?"
I kept my hand in front of her not taking it back. I bit the inside of my cheek. Waiting for the girl with black hair to answer my question.

The first meet
The girl shifted and awkwardly smiled as she introduced herself as Celeste Dearborn. Elisha was silent for a moment studying her before returning the offered handshake with a firm one. Her grip was neither too strong nor too weak, just right enough to be polite.
"Pennyworth. Elisha Pennyworth" She said, posture firm and eyes remaining in contact. It was one of the basic etiquette her mother had taught her when she was younger.
Posture firm, eye contact, and family name first. It was the way pure-bloods acknowledge one another, a silent reminder that family legacy and house are far more important than your personal achievement. It had been drilled to her since childhood, repeated enough times that it had become a second nature to her. Even if she wanted to, she doubted she could introduce herself any other way.
Choosing not to comment on the other girl's manner was also one of it. There was no point in making the other girl any more uncomfortable than she already seems to be. Besides, everyone had just gone through or are still going through the Sorting, they were all strangers. It was only natural for others to have their conversation to feel stiff at first.
"Nice to meet you, Celeste." She paused, tilting her head slightly to the side. "Do you want something from me?"

The first meet

Celeste was taken aback by the question. I continued smiling though it shrank abit and pulled my hand away when she let it go. I pushed my hair away from my face and replied to her question.
"No..I just wanted to get to know you. We are gonna be in the same year, same house and most likely same classes. So I wanted to get to know you a little."

The first meet
"Oh" Elisha blinked.
She had forgotten how common it is for others to make friends and connection. As a pure-blood Elisha often hears from other pureblood how...weird she was for not seeking greater connections and expanding her own people, especially since their house was one of the dwindling pureblood families.
On her mind though few loyal and trust worthy people are better than large greedy, attention seeking leeches. There were other reasons too but she never say them out loud, why reason with people who blocks their own ear.
Looking at the girl trying but failing not too look awkward, Elisha decided to see if she was one of the trust worthy people she can have here in the school.
"I see. I'm sorry if I sounded rude, I didn't mean it." She apologize, soft smile on her lips as she faced her fully. "I hope you didn't take any offense in that."
She looked around the table and saw how other people are engrossed with their own conversation or food. "You're the first one to talk to me today. Have you been enjoying the place so far? Honestly, I could use a little less volume in here. I'm not made for crowds" She chuckles, looking back at Celeste again.

The first meet

Celeste smiled brightened and she started speaking. "Oh. No offense taken." I beamed. "Well so far. I am really enjoying this. Hogwarts is just like how my father described it. So magical and beautiful. I am so excited to make friends here." I rambled on and on.
After a minute of silence. I continued again. "You may know my father. Adam Dearborn. He's a very very well-respected Alchemist." I paused for a minute then added. My face blushing.
"Oh I am so so sorry I talk a lot. I actually grew up near a muggle town in Edinburgh so I really didn't have any friends and people around. So I am very sorry. If I sound very brash." Celeste explained.

The first meet
"Adam Dearborn?" Elisha muttered, repeating the name under her breath as she searched her memory.
"I do remember hearing a few things from my father about a famous alchemist in Scotland." A small, almost embarrassed smile appeared on her face. "Though I'm not really one to keep up with the latest gossip so my knowledge is a bit lacking in that regard."
She paused for a moment before adding, "And don't worry about rambling, my younger brother also does that so I'm used to it." With a light shrug, she finally picks up the drink she had been eyeing for from the start. Taking a small sip before setting it back down."Besides, I also grew up near a Muggle town, though our home was located on the far end near a forest. So it doesn't bother me at all."
Her amber eyes drifted back towards the girl, Celeste. This time, she observes the other girl a little more carefully. The way she dressed, the way she carried herself, and even the way she talked. There was nothing particularly wrong about it, yet something made Elisha curious. Celeste didn't quite behave like the other pureblood children she had interacted growing up, though appearances alone can hardly be enough to judge.
After a brief silence, she decided it would be easier to simply ask. "Say, are you a pure-blood? or maybe a half-blood?" She thinks back to the way Celeste had introduced herself.

The first meet

"Half-blood?" Celeste scoffed.
Celeste smirked. "Of course merlin not. I am pure-blooded through and through. From the respected house of Dearborn." She explained, a little arrogance seeping into her voice. Pulling at her sleeves she spoke again. "Your pure-blooded as well, right?" I asked, pushing my hair away.
Celeste picked up a glass of pumpkin juice and took a sip while awaiting Elisha's reply. "Yuck. Definitely not my type of juice."

The first meet
Elisha smiled faintly as she watches her grimaced after taking a sip of the pumpkin juice. She absentmindedly swirled the drink in her own cup before taking another sip of it. She made the same slightly displeased expression. "Yeah pumpkin juice isn't for me either." She glanced down at the orange liquid. " I don't know why everyone like this drink. Maybe it's something you grow into."
She quietly sets the cup back down unto the table and let her eyes drift towards the food spread out before them. Plates that had once been piled high with warm food were starting to cool, it's steam slowly disappearing into the air. Maybe she should have taken a bite when everything was still warm. At this rate, she was certain she'd end up hungry again before bedtime.
Her attention returned back to Celeste.
"And yes, I'm also a pureblood. We're not that famous or anything, but my parents holds very noble works." Elisha stated, a hint of pride in her voice. The kind that came naturally whenever she spoke of her family. "Though it's not as grand as your father's work, my mother is a healer at St. Mungo's while my father works for the ministry in the Department of International Magical Cooperation."
