Mistletoe Mayhem - Jingle Bells
Hogwarts has decked the halls this holiday season but one thing seems to be missing - mistletoe! On this cold winter morning, the Hogwarts castle is bustling with energy and excitement with holly and wreaths and tinsel and so many other decorations hanging around the colonnades and awnings of the courtyard. A Christmas tree is decorated prominently positioned opposite the magically flowing fountain. Snow is falling gently and landing gently on the cobblestones. A perfect recipe for a fated rendezvous!
Unbeknownst to others, Dennis Tumberton, the third year flaming haired Ravenclaw, found a large batch old dusty mistletoe in an old storage closet in a lost hallway. It would be a real shame if these beautiful ornaments were left to just gather dust and cobwebs in a lonely corner of Hogwarts! So, blowing off a thick layer of dust and with a cough, Dennis picked up the box and skipped down the hall. It was time to bring the joy of love and kisses to the other students! Bells won’t be the only thing jingling! He was now on the prowl for his first victim opportunity!
Who will find love? Who will walk away scarred for life? Time will tell and once the mistletoe was in Dennis’ hands, one thing was certain: there was no turning back!

Mistletoe Mayhem - Jingle Bells

21st December 2025 outfit [x] currently around 173 cm w/boots Scottish snow stuck onto her curls and bright red scarf as her eyes lingered on the snowflakes that landed on her red mittens. Perhaps it was the Christmas spirit infecting her bloodstream or perhaps something in her wanted to go outside in the freezing cold winter. One can tell which one was probable for Ara. Nonetheless, she was outside the castle frolicking in the snow around the castle like some untraumatized first year girl with no life. About a bit more than half a dozen flowers were all bunched up in her hands, stems still on. She'd collected a few and walked around with them in hand. Man, she really did look like some little school girl... a freakishly tall and... scary one at that. It took some time before deciding on going back into the castle. It started getting colder and she did not want a cold after staying out too long. The cold didn't discriminate in the corridors. Ara popped her head out to the courtyard to see it rather empty. Most students went back to their families for the holidays, but she didn't. The girl could recall moments from a few years back when she would just read in the courtyard and meet the most peculiar people. A part of her missed that. Not the awkwardness but it did feel as if classrooms got emptier as the years went by. Ara leaned on one of the pillars and looked up at the sky, still holding her bundle of flowers. She let the snow get on her face before foolishly inhaling a somewhat big particle of snow, leading to her sneezing a few times into her red mittens to expel it from her system. It wasn't anything like those middle aged man sneezes fathers do fortunately. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬He thumbed the strap of his bag now, staring unseeingly at the giant tree in the courtyard. Magical ornaments twinkled like a thousand stars, candles and toys floating about the branches.
A string of noxious fumes curled upward from between the boy's fingers. Ash gathered at his feet, dripping from the tip of his cigarette. The third one for the hour.
His resolution to quit smoking was getting weaker with each 'one last pack' he tore open. 'I'll stop tomorrow', he lied to himself, as a gust of wind picked up fallen snow and blew it directly into his face. It was bitterly cold out in the courtyard, the clouds hanging above the castle a sullen gray. If only vapes worked at Hogwarts. If only he could have been in his dorm right now, with the smell of mint and chocolate hanging about instead of battery acid and tar.
He didn't want to think about his lungs.
As he lit his fourth, flames dancing between the boy's shaky cupped hands, the door to the courtyard opened. Draven glanced up disinterestedly, watching for the tattletale glimmer of a prefect badge. He was hoping to get caught at this point. Hoping someone would step in. He wasn't sure he could stop it himself anymore.
Instead, Ara Villa's fluffy hair poked out into the snow. She was a pop of color against gray stone, red scarf and mittens screaming for attention in the middle of the cold, bleary scene.
Draven finished his toke, getting more comfortable in his spot. He could see the door clearly from the stone bench he'd sat down on, ornaments dangling above his head. A bundle of green leaves sprouting white berries, tied off with a bow. The ribbon matched Ara's scarf, he noted—the same cheery red.
Same as her nose, actually.
A storm of sneezes took over the girl as she pushed on forward, snow tangled in her hair and littering her clothes. Draven snickered.
"Bit cold for you, isn't it, princess?"

21st December 2025 outfit [x] currently around 173 cm w/boots A cough or two followed her sneezes upon hearing something. Or perhaps someone. Draven Mirador. She hasn't talked to him one on one since the duel, and after the shenanigans they got into along with their third year teammate. To think of it, they never really talked one on one, the kiddo was always there. Ara had fun, more fun than she would've anticipated in that messy dorm room. A lot happened since that day, though at the same time almost nothing happened at all. Ara got that dueling captain position she applied for—albeit she didn't think of herself as the best candidate. She was now the oldest of the 3 Slytherin dueling captains. Man, when did kids get so capable? Were her thoughts until she remembered that those kids weren't exactly the best at dueling itself. But then again, they knew and rules and were deemed okay enough to be captain. After that, nothing much happened. Literally nothing at all. October had been too occupied she supposed, November and December had nothing interesting to offer her. Perhaps until now. Her eyes flickered to the cigarette and back to his grey eyes, she didn't want to touch on that subject without necessarily the invitation to. Ara never really realized how tall and somewhat lanky he looked. Made him look older. Then again, she'd seen him put on that coat that made him look less like a homeless 15 year old and more like a 24 year old man with 3 mortages under those eyebags. "Princess" he called her ey? Her eyes narrowed at the name, was trying to figure out if it was trying to sound as condescending as it seemed. She cleared her throat and shook some snow out of her hair with her mittens before turning to the boy fully. Ara paused for half a second after he spoke. Not long enough to look stunned. Not short enough to seem unaffected. Her brows knit just a little as she studied him—really studied him this time. The cigarette. The ash at his boots. The way he leaned like gravity was doing half the work of keeping him upright. Her mouth twitched, not quite a smile, not quite disapproval. “Princess?” she echoed, flatly. "That's a new one." Ara took off her scarf and dusted off some snow as she approached the stone bench she was a bit too familiar with in her earlier years here. "You smell like death." Under her scarf was just the collar of her light blue undershirt, her own collarbones visible with only a bit underneath her actual shirt. "I would've expected most to go home to their families by now, no?" She was now right in front of him, just a bit off to the side. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬His clothes had gone from clean and well-fitted to just a little too small again, sweater pulling up to reveal slender wrists, and jeans splattered with acid. Mishap in the potions lab he didn't care enough to mend.
No matter how much you polish a turd, it will remain a turd. When he got paid again in January, he'd buy another set of clothes, ignoring the fact that he would outgrow them in a few months, and that they were the cheapest thing he could find. His father was 190. His mother 185. He had a long way to go. No point in spending on luxury if he'd need to leave it behind.
"I'm going back on the 23rd," he said after a beat, dropping the pack of cigarettes back in his pocket. Abbadon would come pick him up that night, and they'd spend the new year together. At least, that was the plan. A strange knot of anxiety was tightening in Draven's chest, growing more cumbersome as the date neared. "Why are you still here? Not fond of your folk?"
As she'd gotten nearer, it was getting harder to look away. She really was beautiful, he noticed despite himself. Ivory skin and straight black hair, a touch of pink dusting her lips. She looked like a painting, one that someone had spent a great deal of time on. He was almost afraid to be near her, lest his own disheveled, messy air taint her.
Good sense of style as well. The colors complemented her, red bringing out the rose from underneath her skin. Her coat was finely made, though rather boxy. He supposed that was the trend now, though it did make her look like-... he paused.
Like a boy. She looked like a boy.
Perhaps that was why he liked her.
Before that particular line of thought could go any further, Draven envisioned himself crumpling it like a piece of parchment paper and tossing it into the nearest trash bin. Nope.
"Congrats, by the way," Draven said, tilting his head. His smile was half ironic as he stole a glance in her direction. "....Captain." He supposed there was a lot more yelling coming in his foreseeable future.

21st December 2025 outfit [x] currently around 173 cm w/boots She scoffed when Draven just reaffirmed the use of the word, mitten-covered hand raking through her own hair as the other still held her red scarf. That scarf made it harder to breathe but her neck was now bathed in the cold air of winter upon taking it off. Speaking of, the cold was cool and wet—high humidity levels and all—yet her lips were chapped. She woke up late and skipped breakfast so that might be a factor. Or maybe she was just dehydrated in general. Ara couldn't remember the last time she had water. At the same time, she couldn't really complain. There were two people in the courtyard and she wasn't the most haggard looking one. Not to say Draven looked awful but it was obvious that he wasn't at his best. Small, stained clothes, sunken in face, slender body. That boy needs a shopping spree. Ara's eyes narrowed at him as he took another puff. Did he always look this... miserable? She never really noticed. Draven offered her a cigarette. Right after complaining about the price too. She wouldn't mind funding this little cancer speedrun but a part of her didn't really want to see him self-destruct. Her fingers took one. Just one. Not even offered to get it lighted, she had no reason to smoke. No reason to be all dead inside. The one she took was his. Ara blinked upon recognition on what she did. "What the—" hell. She means hell. What did she do? Literally just snatched the cigarette from Draven's mouth. They weren't THAT close for her to do that for the hee hee ha ha's. Her eyes lingered on the halfway burnt through wrapper paper tube in between her fingers. That's all it really was to her anyway. Intrusive thoughts told her to put it to her mouth and smoke from there but she wasn't that senseless and psychotic. Would probably get both of them to puke. She fiddled with it, not quite sure what to do. It was awkward. She didn't like that. A part of her wanted to just stick it back into his mouth like nothing happened but instead she just held onto it. He mentioned that he'd be going back to his folks on the 23rd. Honestly, good timing on his part. "My folks aren't... there a lot. No difference if I went home or not." she paused, "My siblings are annoying anyway." That was a half-lie. She did miss her eldest siblings quite a bit but what was the difference if she did go home? She'd be locked in her room anyway. So, Ara didn't plan on going home, neither did she look forward to visiting. Boarding school is boarding school and she came here for that luxury. Her face almost snapped to him when he mentioned congrats. Ara's head tilting slightly when he started smiling, didn't seem backhanded. She looked like a cat-owl thing. Draven said the word captain. "Eugh that sounds weird coming from your mouth. Thanks though, really." She smiled slightly as her scarf transferred to her other arm. "Better practice together sometime, hm? Only three of us fourth years on the team afterall." It wasn't a lie. Mahlioz (@Mahlioz Evethisawe) was the only person she's never bickered with, never hated, never insulted. Some people just come and go. Perhaps it was the captain-ness sinking in. She didn't want to make it harder for the younger years and traumatize them with older year duels. She wanted to keep all the somewhat older years on the team—even if it meant tolerating a certain expired meat shield (@Hanako Tone) She laughed to herself while leaning back on an invisible pillar, slipping back. CRAWLING BACK TO YOU

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Before she could burn herself, Draven closed the space between them, taking the cigarette back. There were only about two puffs left anyway, which he took before snuffing it out and dropping the roach in his pocket.
“I know the feeling,” he snickered, flashes of Iris practicing her latest goth makeup on his tiny prepubescent face bringing a warm feeling in his chest. He’d been the prettiest seven-year-old to walk God’s green Earth.
“I made my dad spend the last two Christmases alone,” he mused. In a hospital bed, no less. He owed a visit to the old man at the very least. That, and he was excited to see him. “Not that he was conscious, but still.”
He worried at the sleeves of his jacket as Ara talked. It felt weird to not use his hands for something. Felt weirder still to talk to someone about…not clothes. Or books. Or a potions assignment.
“Oh you don’t like Captain?” he raised an eyebrow, the mischievous glint shining in his eyes once more. “Guess I’ll stick with princess. My apologies, your highness.”
With a dexterity that surprised him, he managed a somewhat elegant bow, sardonic at best. Her gaze had snapped to him a few seconds before, so he supposed he might as well give her something to look at.
Duelling practice sounded- weirdly nice. The image of Ara slamming him into a wall with a well executed spell flashed before him. Why were his cheeks so hot? Why was he picturing the girl with her wand at his throat?
“I’m pretty sure I fucked over any chance at being friends with Mahl,” he said, before his thoughts could stray into more dangerous territory. “They were pretty pissed the last time we talked.”
The last, and only time. He wasn’t even entirely clear what exactly he’d done, other than be a little rude to Samuel. ‘Little’ was subjective, but considering Hogwarts students regularly set each other on fire for kicks, he doubted it was the worst his professor had witnessed.
His line of thought, thankfully, was interrupted. Ara slipped backwards after tripping over seemingly nothing at all, rushing towards the concrete faster than she could throw her hands behind her. Her boots slid on a patch of ice, head nearly hitting the ground.
Draven snapped forward, his hand tangling in her fancy coat and pulling her back up.
She may have been shorter than him, but they weighed about the same. Which was unfortunate, considering it threw him off balance. He stumbled, bracing against the wall and accidentally caging her between the bricks and his arms. Safe, though he should have let her fall.
They wouldn’t have been in this particular predicament, if he had. Adrenaline rushing through their veins, inches from one another.
“How the fuck did you manage to dodge like that in the duel,” he demanded, ivory skin turning red. From the cold. Definitely from the cold. “You can’t even stand.”

Mistletoe Mayhem - Jingle Bells

21st December 2025 outfit [x] currently around 173 cm w/boots Ara sneered as Draven called her rude. Oh she knows she is. Very well. She still didn't know why she did it though. Out of pity? Did she not want to see him self-destruct? Did she just want to annoy him? There were probably dozens of reasons why she might've done it but none quite hit that mark. A part of her wondered why she didn't take a puff or two, not because she was curious but to just make it less awkward for both of them. She turned away slightly, supposedly to air out the tension between the two fifteen year olds. His eyes. That's honestly all she looked at as he spoke about his family. No idea why though. The slight upturn at the corner of her slip was noticeable enough as he spoke. ![]() They’re grey. Not the dramatic kind people like to write poems about—not stormclouds or silver coins—just grey, thin and pale around the edges, darker at the centre like the color has been worn down by use. The sort of grey that looks different depending on the light, sometimes flat and dull, sometimes sharp enough to cut. She thinks they make him look tired. Too tired for someone his age. When he’s focused, they narrow slightly, lashes casting shadows he probably doesn’t notice. It’s annoying. She doesn’t like that she can notice things like that. Speaking of eyes, her eyes rolled as he stuck with princess and even bowed. Ara then gave him a smirk, he wanted to tease, hm? "Yeah, yeah bow down and beg on your knees for me, Draven Mirador. Yada-yada off with yer head you didn't worship me enough at my shrine near the dueling club." she mocked, though the tone was half-serious. The first sentence sounded off on its own so she added the second one. Nice save. At the back of her head, she wouldn't be surprised if he did. He talked about Mahlioz like he just gave up on it. Ara doesn't blame him—entirely at least. Mahlioz could be stubborn. "It can't be that bad... right-? Surely we can arrange something for the three of us." she stated. Deep down, she knew if Draven and Mahl were pissed at eachother, Mahlioz would be even more pissed at Draven for being friends with Ara. That's a scene she wouldn't want to miss. Oh, falling. Almost forgot about that part. Yeah so she fell backwards whilst trying to lean on an invisible pillar. The ice below her boots didn't help one bit. Ara was one millisecond away from giving up and accepting her fate to a concussion and having this piece of gorgeous work—no one said that—carry (or more realistically, drag) her to the hospital wing the building across. Nevermind, he as good reflexes afterall. Good for her. Now don't let anyone see them like that or else she'll give herself a concussion. He grabbed her coat but one with a brain greater than a goldfish's would know what wouldn't be enough. Her right arm was around his shoulder and she held on while her left was holding onto his own jacket coat thing at his side. Draven held her up surprisingly. He stumbled quite a bit upon catching her and she ended up caged against the wall with Draven acting as the cage. This looked so bad for her reputation goddammit. If one person, just one person she knows passed by. It looked like a dip in one of those dances, but if they were in an ice rink and she was the one being taught how to skate then ended up falling with Draven as her only lifeline. Ara being Ara didn't worry much about her almost-concussion but worried more about 1) what this looked like and 2) how to get out of this as unromantically as possible. Draven's comment cut off her thinking. She scoffed yet again. "I had it... I'm not usually clumsy y'know?" a pause, "Glad to know you acknowledge that I'm better at dodging spells than you, quite flattered, princess." Right back at him. The nickname suits him more honestly, the longer hair and all that jazz. He'd make a good princess, she'd totally spoil him. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬There it was. That horrible, aching sensation scraping the inside of his stomach raw, reaching through his throat and cutting out a connection with anything but Ara. Ara Villa. The witch who, for all intents and purposes, should have been anywhere else. Doing anything else. Except for talking to him.
Alone.
In the freezing courtyard, with snowflakes tangled in her hair and rosy cheeks.
Merlin. He knew this feeling. Knew what to expect when the whole world went quiet, and suddenly the only thing in sharp, minute detail was a girl. It was hard to focus on anything else. Hard not to notice the way his breath ghosted over her face, the way he could feel each beat of his heart pulsing underneath his skin, the sound thunderous, threatening to overtake everything else.
ᴏʜ ɴᴏ.
Her fingers were tangled in his sweater. He was holding her up, bracing against the wall for balance, half because he didn't trust he'd be able to straighten up. But they couldn't remain in that position. With each second that passed by, it was getting harder to hide how absolutely and completely flustered he was. They were too close, so close he could count the golden flakes in her eyes, could picture himself brushing back her hair and tilting up her chin-
"You're brilliant," Draven said softly, his voice hoarse. The smell of cigarettes and frost hung between them. He'd meant to follow it up with a snide remark. With an insult. With something sarcastic, something witty, something to make up for the way he'd forgotten how to breathe. Instead, he helped her straighten up.
His hand dropped to her waist, steadying her, pulling her back out of the precarious position they were in. He'd meant to pull away. Put some space between them. Take a step back. Apologize for-...for what? He didn't know. Perhaps it didn't matter; an apology felt warranted.

Mistletoe Mayhem - Jingle Bells
THE ACTION
Dennis pranced around the corridor singing Christmas carols to himself as he looked for victims. However, he proved to be too obvious as any couples or stragglers saw him coming, saw the twinkle in his eyes, and ran for the hills, clearing a path for him as he made his way to the courtyard. There had to be someone for him to share the joys of Christmas and passion with!
When he arrived, walking along the covered walkway that lined that beautifully snow covered area, he encountered his first unsuspecting pair. He had learned from his previous failures, he positioned himself around one of the pillars just out of eyeshot. The one boy (Draven) was offering a cigarette to a girl (Ara) who grabbed it and decidedly didn’t smoke it. Dennis thought a smoke sounded perfectly lovely and mirrored Draven’s disdain for the fact she wasted it.
Dennis blinked and Ara had tripped backwards. Not that he was close enough to do anything, but he reached for his wand nonetheless as Draven successfully caught Ara with arms that looked more like wet noodles than anything that could hold human weight, helping her to her feet (Str DC = 10; 1d20+1=19; PASS). As Ara got to her feet (Str DC: 10; 1d20+7=20; PASS), a thought struck the Ravenclaw! This was the perfect set up for a nice little Christmas smooch!
Dennis opened the box and pulled out one of the dusty mistletoe. Blowing off the dust, he drew his wand and quietly whispered “Wingardium Leviosa,” and with a gentle flick of his wrist, the spell took hold instantly and with confidence (WDC 8; 1d20+8=28; Crit success; PASS - show off…). The mistletoe levitated out of the box and as if he was conducting an orchestra, Dennis guided it dancingly across the courtyard, bridging the gap between where he stood and where they were nestled closely together.
By the time the mistletoe arrived over their heads, all of the dust had shaken loose, and the bells shone brightly, their music piercing the crisp winter air sweetly. It was a scene out of a Christmas movie! Surely, nothing would go wrong as the mistletoe seemed to slowly start to rustle.
