| ── | Frantic was something Graci did well. Quite well enough, in fact, that she had begun a wild goose chase over the grounds and school searching for a certain Charlotte Winfield. Though, her search provided better results when referring to her as Lottie. Through some slightly distressed asking around, she had been led to a Winfield, but not Lottie, though nearly the next best thing. Her sibling. It was a rather short thing, with their assumption to be that Lottie would spend her time in the library. The Library was one room Graci spent less time in than she should of. Probably thought of as odd, considering she lived above a bookstore, but all things considered, where you live has nothing to do with who you are. Other than being the setting of most memories, but why complicate things? The morning has been slightly anxiety ridden. Which wasn't surprising, considering her sudden rememberance of a certain Muggle History Association meeting she was to be partaking in that evening. Dress codes for these types of things could be so different, and who was she to come underdressed to an event? No, no, that would not do. Historical accuracy was one thing the Gryffindor girl strove for in instances such as this. Graci took a deep breath, entering the library, quickly enveloped by the deafening blanket of silence. How stifling. Libraries were all like that, though, not bad just... mysterious. I am on a mission, so no more pondering the mysterious qualities of stoic libraries. That morning Lottie had all but been elusive, and one could only hope she actually was in the library. Well then, time to pull a 'go and ask random people'. Yay. So off she went, into the shelves wandering about in search of people. Now, Graci was not one to assume genders, but she totally was. Not out of any ill intent or feelings, but because that was how she happened to be raised. Hopefully I have not passed by Lottie, and mis-profiled her. How unfortunate that would be. She slowly approached someones table, hoping to have gone far enough in that no one else would see if she melted from embarrassment. "Uh, hello? Might you... might you happen to know of a certain Charlotte, er Lottie, Winfiled? Or if not would you have a guess as to where she might be?" I hope she's not in her common room... that would be an issue. | xxx | ![]() |

| xxx | Lottie was not typically one to be sought for. Isolation was a natural state for the middle Winfield, with dreaminess and contemplation to accompany it. Most of the time, when she was alone, she was also very uncomfortable. She didn't like to be alone, as it made her feel things she didn't like to feel otherwise, unless she absolutely, positively needed to. Right now, she was feeling it, very strongly. She was also attempting to hastily read through her Charms notebook and take notes. With the Fall season reaching its peak and the October chill sending waves of cold through the Hogwarts grounds, Lottie had found that her pathetic inability to cast half-working heating charms had finally come back to bite her. The library, luckily, was warm enough for her to take shelter in, so she had been spending the day withering away by a corner table and trying to get her eyes to work. She had begun quite early in the morning, though the steady flow of students began to trickle in only a little after breakfast. It was tastefully busy, quiet enough that Lottie didn't feel overwhelmed, but with enough quiet chatter that she also didn't feel completely alone. It was moderately comfortable, although obviously not the ideal place to be with so much free-time. That wasn't to say she didn't like the library, in fact she loved the library, but the grounds were calling her name. What really wound up dragging her from her thoughts was not the call of an autumn day or the promise of adventure, however. It was one single girl, hesitant and hopeful, approaching her table. Lottie looked up, her vision swimming a bit from so much time staring at the small words below her. Confusion settled like a breeze in her gut, empty and desperate to be filled. "Right, uh... this is she," Lottie replied quietly, carefully slotting a slip of paper in her book and shutting it. She folded her hands in her lap and glanced over at the girl, cocking her head slightly. "Is everything alright? I'm a bit busy." | xxx |

| ── | Is that charms? Graci mentally shook her head, ot wanting to get side-tracked by one of the best magical subjects in existence. Well, not as fun and adventurous as other subjects, but it came easily, so she liked it. Simple as that... or something. With all the chaos going on in life, charms homework was just a nice escape from thinking. In hindsight, she thinks that makes her sound decidedly unintelligent, but hey, school being the distraction had to count for something. Hopefully. A slight grin graced her features at the way her question was answered, face tilting towards the ground. 'This is she' was such an oddly wonderful way to reply. Focus. Graci looked up again, inhaling softly and smoothing over the nonexistant crease in her shirt. "My sincerest apologies for interrupting you, I only had some questions regarding the Muggle History Assosciation? The meeting's dresscode in particular. I am simply wondering what might be considered underdressed, or overdressed," Graci finished with a light flush to her cheeks, despite the fact she had hardly been over sharing. Quite the opposite, if she really thought it over. Good job me, I suppose. Lottie seemed... put together, if anything. It wasn't much to go off of, that and the confusion that came after someone asked a question. First meetings could hardly be basis for anything but perception, after all. It had been so long, too long, since Graci had actually met a new person instead of wallowing in her dorm, all alone with only homework. It seemed that the young Gryffindor girl's hesitancy had dissapeared in its entirety, now that she had susessfully avoided asking the wrong person if they were Charlotte. It also eased her mind the the silence was not hers alone to bear. There were other people, including Lottie, to filling it with their presence, even if not with words. A troubled mind was one of Graci's more recent possesions. Unfortunately. Odd, though, seeing as she was a rather bright tempered girl, but true, nonetheless. Nights went from filled with sleep and blissful dreams, to breathing excersizes so she didn't freak out for no reason. Be it a test, assignment, or an awkward interaction going over and over in her mind. It was always something. The days were safe, free from the sludge like darkness that crept through the shadows like a nocturnal wraith. Time to zone back in. With an itch to her hand, she was blissfully brought back to the land of present day 2025, instead of her thoughts. Hope came to her mind, this time with notes of wondering if she had missed something Lottie had said. Likely not. Voices bring my mind back, too. | xxx | ![]() |

| xxx | Lottie had lied. She was not busy, not really. She wasn't sure what had compelled her to opt for deceit over truth, which was that she had too much time rather than too little. And her Charms grade was notably exceptional, at least exceptional enough that she rarely had any need to take extra time out of class to catch up. She was stalling, though for what, she was unsure. And now she was lying. She really needed to work on her ethics. The question, though, was one that sparked an immediate sense of excitement in Lottie. Her decision to create a history-based student club was one built on a mixture of rebellion and curiosity. It was an experiment she had planned in haste. She wouldn't have been able to do it, otherwise, if she had given it even an ounce of extra thought. It was a terrible idea, but it was also thrilling. "Well, it's... the Renaissance," Lottie replied a bit incredulously, a shocked laugh threatening to roll past her lips before she realized how positively rude that would be. Clearing her throat, she leaned forward. "It's not so easy to summarize into words." She understood a few things immediately about her recent position. Mostly, it was the new sense of leadership that she was responsible for, the fact that people would look to her for things now, not the other way around. This was a notably difficult thing for her, if only because she wasn't the most sociable of individuals, and leadership often required a degree of conversationalist and tact that she wasn't so attuned to in regular conversation. The best she could do was channel her inner problem-solver, one developed over years of helping to take care of her younger siblings in the midst of her mother's negligence. With surprising initiative, Lottie stood up, grabbing the book from the table and tucking it below her shoulder. "I'm sure there must be a book in here somewhere." Lottie glanced over at the other girl, gnawing softly at her lip before shrugging. "There's a muggle section over this way." Without any further explanative, Lottie started off down the shelves, not waiting for Graci to follow suit. | xxx |

| ── | Graci gave an awkward smile as Lottie looked at her with a near humourous, albeit ashtonished, face. I do know it's the renaissance, I was only wondering what I might wear, is all. She did not say that, but that's what she thought nonetheless. Thankfully, Graci was hardly one for turning down a conversation of larger scale, so she kept the rather rude musings in her head. For now, at least. Her thoughts might be shared at a later time. Likely in her journal. Fortunately for the both of them, Graci was one who could listen just about as well as she could talk. 'Just about', being the key phrase. So she stood there, listening to Charlotte in the manner a pupil would to a teacher. Attentively, though with an unfortunately short attention span. Good thing this isn't actual school. More interactive. Graci stepped back as the other girl stood up, looking on curiously as Lottie casually remarked over books. Hm, more school-like than I thought. How intriguing. "Well then, lead the way." So she followed beside Charlotte, with much the same manner as an over-eager dog. Though hopefully more sophisticated. The fact that there was a Muggle section in the library shouldn't have surprised Graci. And it didn't, not entirely, but it was likely due to her lack of time spent between the towering shelves. If she had known, she might even had visited more often. I wonder what type of books a magical school has on muggles. Hopefully accurate. While they walked in silence, Graci took a moment to observe this girl. They hadn't met before, so it was rather hard to gauge personality. Lottie didn't seem rude, though, which was certainly a plus. There were a surprising amount of people who would have just told her to go away or figure it out herself. Other than that she couldn't tell much. An intellectual, she would have guessed, if only on the basis that she had started a club about history. "I'm Graci, by the way." Upon realizing her lack of manners, Graci quickly tried to remedy that. Just because she knew Charlotte's name did not mean it was mutual. Hey, at least I remembered at some point. Names seemed like such a trivial thing when mostly with family or friends, but at Hogwarts it felt like she was introducing herself every day at least three times. She tugged at a stray strand of hair, wondering how Lottie felt about being sought out while busy. Must be quite anxiety inducing, hosting a club meeting. Graci wanted to ask what had prompted Charlotte to start the Muggle History association, but figured it would be a little out of the blue. Well, it would really just be trading one type of awkwardness for another. | xxx | ![]() |

| xxx | Lottie was not typically a leader, at least not in the traditional sense. Sure, she had taken great care of her youngest brother when she was still at home. And yes, she had always made a point of bossing Ethel around when there was a threat of trouble from their mother. But she was not the type of girl to parade herself around like some army general, although often she found herself slotted into that role when constantly surrounded by individuals who didn't seem to know their head from their foot. At Hogwarts, it wasn't so easy to develop the power dynamic between student and student that she naturally had with her siblings. She had to actually make an effort to be seen, which she so rarely did. The club hadn't been a reaction to that, but rather an independent decision that hesitantly allowed that as an obvious drawback. She did not want to lead. And yet here she was. After nearly three complete years attending Hogwarts, she knew the library like the back of her hand. She passed swiftly through rows of books, silently scanning the shelves and occasionally stopping abruptly to examine the cover of one. She did not spare much mind to the girl following suit, though turned her head slightly at the belated introduction. "Right, yes. I saw your name on the sign-ups." Lottie replied as she trailed her finger over a collection of spines, "I admired your application. You have unique interests." The compliment was brief and analytical, but true. Lottie had read over the applications about a million times after receiving them, spending late nights wondering anxiously what faces belonged to the strangers. It was more than just curiosity. It was desire. She wanted so desperately to know these people, to understand them, to possibly have a chance to bond with others of shared interests. She imagined it was perhaps because she could not connect easily with others over mundane things. But history? History was a bounty of endless talking points, a prompt for discussion and passion and comradery, all built around the glorious foundation of time. But, obviously, she didn't say that. She just continued scanning the shelf until she found a hefty, worn book. "Renaissance fashion." She offered the book towards Graci, before hesitating briefly. "Actually, er- I suppose we should look through it together. Admittedly, I have yet to find a dress myself." | xxx |

| ── | Graci had never properly taken the time to admire the bookshelves. Tall, ornate giants made of dark wood. In her mind, the towering beasts seemed as though they had always been there. How could something seeming so unmovable be made by mankind? That's it. Enough being odd and philosophical for me today. They did tower unbelievably high, though, her neck craning to see some of the top most titles. Maybe she had a greater appreciation for bookshelves considering she grew up above a bookstore. Graci didn't often think in relation to home, as it only made her miss her parents more. The wood grain was smooth under her fingertips, albeit a little dusty. A small look of displeasure crossed her face as she brushed it off on her jeans, but quickly adopted her usual smile again. Sometimes it seemed as though her face got away from her. Emotions of hers could always be very clearly seen, unfortunate for her, in most scenarios. The lement of one terrible at lying. It was an odd experience, blindly following someone who knew a place so well when it was like a foreign creature to you. Honestly in Graci's mind, it was Lottie who was the foreign creature. Not the library. Everyone was, if you thought about it with a skewed anough perspective. Just another person with a life so completely different from her own. Though never 'just' another person. Someone seeing her name on a sign-up sheet was also an odd thing. Odd was what most things were, Graci found. An apt descriptor, for the majority of everything. Perhaps she shouldn't have been slightly taken aback by it. Alas. Does she say unique as in 'genuinely interesting' or 'you're kinda weird, but you do you'? "Thank you?" Graci phrased it as a question, not quite knowing how one could deliver a should-be compliment in such a perplexing way. "Religious and mythological history is just quite fascinating, I think. Though, you must know that already. Art history, as well." Graci would have much preferred to have grown up above a museum than a bookstore, but she got the feeling that no museum worth their salt would have tenants living above. Graci watched as Lottie drew a finger along the books, wondering just exactly why there would be any books about the Renaissance in this library. What use would a slight period in muggle history be to magical folk? Well, I best be grateful. This is helpful. Her eyes picked at random book titles, hoping to remember some so she might come back to the section at a later date, with different subjects in mind. Her eyes widened slightly, her head cocking while trying to read the title of the book Lottie held out to her. She gingerly took it from the older girls hands, wondering if it had any pictures. Pages with only words in a non-fiction book were hardly engaging. It was hefty enough to have clearly had effort put into it, an appreciative quality in books. "Well, back we go then! I really do hope I'm not hindering your day's productivity too much." It was mere formality now. If Lottie did not want to be disturbed at this point in their odd conversation, she would simply have to be displeased. | xxx | ![]() |

| xxx | Lottie recalled quite clearly how the library had looked her first year as opposed to how it looked now. The endless rows of worn spines and dusty wood had felt almost overwhelming to the young girl, despite her dazed excitement. In truth, she had been less excited for the magical books than she was the muggle ones. The shelves of her library back at home had been lined with books on magical history, study guides, spell lists, and just about every important piece of magical literature her father could stuff inside. The muggle books had come as an afterthought, a little slice of rebellion from her older sister. The reading she had done back home was much different from the reading she did here. When she wasn't studying, she was engulfed in books on muggle history, ranging from the fruitful exploits of the Medieval day to even the social changes of the modern century. She had opened the floodgates to an entirely new world, one void of magic's crutch. She loved it so wholly, to the depths of her bones. Lottie realized, though, that it was not typical conversation. That was perhaps why she was so prone to silence. Graci, however, seemed quite intrigued, if not a bit taken aback by this unique interest. This was, of course, the one addendum to a club detailing the most vulnerable, secret part of Lottie. It would require a bit of opening up. Naturally. "They are fascinating," Lottie said with hardly-masked interest. Her fingers played with the fine paper tucked under a worn cover, subconsciously. "I'm quite fond of art history. There is a sort of beauty in paintings that cannot speak. So much more must be captured in just that single frame." She recalled her vague memories of long nights back home, tucked away under her bed with a dim candle and a giant book of art, stolen by her sister from some library or another. She recalled, with particular vividness, the image of Madame X. It was a piece of art she held very dearly, if only because it had opened up a new world of possibility for Lottie. At her young age, she had dreamed of taking the woman's place, an unmoving enigma posted lazily inside a small frame. She dreamt of being a muse. It was quite foolish, really. "Not at all," Lottie replied to Graci's small comment, leading the other girl back to the table with elegant ease and sliding back into her seat, "I've been putting this off. There are dress shops in Hogsmeade, yes?" | xxx |

| ── | History held a special place in Graci's heart. A hyperfixation she never grew out of. Occasionally, though, she wondered if she really loved it, or a fake version of it she painted for herself. The brutality of it all might have masked the better parts if not for the sheer grandeur of them. Only bad, worse, and better. Not good, not bad, and certainly not something she should romantisize. Alas. She was incapable of changing that impossibly hopeful part of herself. It was a nice change of pace, not being judged for liking a subject deemed 'boring'. Odder still was it seemed she had found someone who was more passionate than herself. How wonderful it is, to talk with someone about what they're passionate about. While the pair hadn't been talking for long, Graci had the nasty habit of over-exaggerating or making something more appealing than it was. Lying, some called it. Romantisizing was the preferred phrase of others. Normal, in her mind. An admirer of paintings, why, she seems as though she might be a muse herself. Graci quite often found herself thinking of what great works she might create if she had an eye for art. Art in the confines of paints, pastels, graphite, marble, clay, and so many more, that was. Beauty and art is everywhere, if one only cared to look. "Can't speak in words, that is. We take a message from everything, and even different ones from the same thing, when our perception has changed. I think it to be a gift, portraying emotion in a way so moving, even hundreds of years later." Graci's tone was rather contemplative. Usually she would try to maintain some semblance of normalacy around people and not go sprouting off random quotes about non-verbal paintings. Alas, Graci figured if Lottie thought she was weird no one was forcing them to ever meet again. Showing people how you feel without words was a skill Graci envied. It had taken her a long, long time to figure out how to find the right words. It was still a struggle oftentimes, and her learning of language and the nuance thereof would never not ail her. Well, we all have our gifts, I suppose, Graci thought. Her was mind going back to what her mom would say again and again. Comparison of sisters between themselves was a sure way for their relationship to fall in ruin. That happened anyway, unfortunately Graci took the seat across from Charlotte, fidgeting with the hem of her jacket underneath the table. "I suppose there would be, yes. I wouldn't know, second year and all." Graci had gone once or twice with her father, but never outside of that. Besides, she needed to wait another year before she could go during the school year. Hm, how do you go about telling someone 'oh yeah that sounds great have a blast because I cannot'? At least without sounding odd. She just hoped Lottie would take the hint. | xxx | ![]() |

| xxx | Lottie carefully began flipping through the pages of the large book, immediately captured by the elegant silhouettes and brilliant colors of the renaissance dresses. Pearls that draped from neck to waist, short bodices followed by long flowing skirts, divine, ornate patterns obscured by silk lace. She was once again swarmed with the overwhelming sensation of true and deep love for muggles. Her mind wandered for a brief moment before quickly snapping back to the girl beside her. Graci spoke with a great, visible admiration for art, and Lottie felt as though she could melt from excitement. Late nights spent fretting and anticipating and waiting for the first club meeting suddenly seemed unimportant, when it was exceedingly clear to her now that her passion was shared. Lottie had to continuously remind herself that she held a particular reputation, one that did not leave room for uncontrollable joy. Still, a great amount of focus was required to remain composed. "It's dreadful that I may never see every single piece of art on this earth," Lottie mused, eyes still drawn down on the large book as she flipped slowly through the pages, "I find myself wishing I could live a million lives, just to take it all in. Even then I doubt it would be enough." It was a deeply personal thing summed into vague enough words that it wouldn't feel like letting her deepest secrets off her chest. A lack of clarity could only be her lifeboat for so long, but she got the sneaking suspicion that revelations were a two-way street. Lottie was not an artist, nor did she believe herself at all capable of becoming one. Painting was like a foreign language to her, and her words were hardly concise enough for poetry. She expressed art through passion, though that was hardly enough to garner the attention worthy of a true artist. Admiring from afar was the best she could manage, and perhaps one day that would be suitable for her. One hitch. Lottie had nearly forgotten that Graci was a year below her. She fixed her with a strange look, waiting for a silent moment for her to continue on before rolling her eyes. "That really won't be an issue," Lottie said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, "Half this bloody school has forged their permission forms. We'll figure something out." | xxx |
