Hogwarts was already a mystical and wonderful place, but snowfall only magnified its attributes. The Grounds were laden with untouched snow while the Castles exterior was dressed with snowcapped roofs and steeples, and frosted window panes. Then inside the walls it was warm and toasty, and the decorations easily could make someone feel at home. It was a beautiful time to be there, the ambience changed without the common sounds of students feet and the combined chatter of voices during the school year. Most students left during the Christmas holidays, but some stayed. Whether it be by choice or by necessity.
Wes had stayed, and he was excited to have. With no classes he had more time to explore the Castle. Usually it was just him finding rooms with interesting portraits or armor, but just a few days into the holiday he found something rather interesting. At first he told no one. That was his plan. However, one day he decided he’d bring someone.
Wes had talked to Skylar a few times over the break, she was a friend of a friend. He wanted to show someone, maybe her? It is possible that Wes would call her his friend, maybe. When he saw the Slytherin girl in the Great Hall he decided to show her what he just happened upon in a corridor on the Second Floor. He simply greeted her and said, “Hey Skylar, are you busy? I found something on the Second Floor that I think you’ll really like.” There were not many people in the Great Hall that morning, but he still said it in a hushed tone before standing up. “Come on.” The boy smirked and headed on, hands in the pocket of his jumper, assuming she would follow.
If Skylar did then she would have followed him up to the Second Floor. The halls were quieter than they were when school was in session, so their footsteps echoed through the corridors. Wes had said, “We’re nearly there,” about four or five times but at junctions the boy would stop and run a hand through his hair before looking left and right. Eventually after what felt like an extended period of time, he brought Skylar to a door. A small door that looked like it did not lead to anywhere important at all. Honestly no one would have really noticed it before.
“So what do you think?” Wes asked with a smirk. It was just a door, very unimpressive. However, if one inched closer they would smell faint wafting of cinnamon, peppermints, chocolate, and even some lavender.

Skylar walked around the castle without any destination, passing through one door to another. Sometimes, she stopped by the window, watching the white grounds and snowfall. Then, she began her aimless walk again.
The quiet was such a nice echo that pleased her when she walked, but it also made her feel lonely. This was the time that one reason she regretted not being home during the holiday reminded her. She couldn’t smell any fresh green grass or any sweet scent of flora and trees nearby.
Skylar realized she walked in circles around and then ended up to the Great Hall again. She sat alone somewhere, watching the candlelight above with her brainless mind. She had to admit that it was satisfying, doing something without any purpose.
Suddenly, she heard someone call her, and she glanced at him. Wes was a friend of a friend that she’d met recently. He seemed like a straightforward person, as Skylar didn’t even greet him back, yet he had already invited her to go somewhere with him.
Skylar followed the boy without any question, but the long she walked, the long her confusion was overwhelming inside.
“What’s he gonna do? He's gonna prank me or something?”
Her mind was talking loudly in her head then she came back to her senses again after the boy said,“We’re nearly there.”
Skylar walked through the corridors, looking to all the portraits on the side. Most of the time, she usually heard them talking and complaining, but today, there was just a peaceful hum and a little bit of snore.
“Even the picture enjoyed the winter.” She sighed with her smirk.
She didn’t realize the boy had stopped until she almost crashed into the door in front of her.
“So what do you think?” Wes asked her.
She frowned and looked at him. “About what?” She looked at the door and looked at him again, confusing. Then, she faintly smell something that came out of that door.

Wes had hoped that she would went in. He stood for a second just to see. “The door.” He said with odd level of excitement, “the room.” Wes was obviously teasing a bit, this was not the exciting part. It was just a dull door. The boy did not really give her much more time. He took her hand and started to push the door open.
It creaked open to show a room washed with a soft golden light from a cozy fire in the corner and warmth washed over them. Lining the walls were shelves of ancient jars and hot chocolate tins. With a closer look, each was labeled with different flavors. Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Salted Caramel, any type of hot cocoa flavor a person could ever think of. Opposite of that sat a small table with smaller planters on it. Mint, lavender, chamomile, and a few others were there.
In the middle of the room sat a large copper cauldron resting on brass stand. It was filled with steaming hot chocolate that bubbled and moved like liquid velvet. The scent, mixing with that was mint and lavender gave a calming and restful aura to the room.
In front of the fire were two mix matched arm chairs with a mug on each. One of the arm chairs was a deep burgundy, the other a forest green, both looking comfortably worn in. The chamber felt private, hidden, scared even. As if it was waiting just for them, like it knew who would be entering.
Wes smiled at her, a big smile, and then stepped further in. He did not pull her in, but with a light tug of the hand he urged Skylar. “This. So what do you think?”

Skylar had a little bit of understanding of what Wes meant earlier after smelling something light in front of the door, and she said.
“What room is this?”
Her mind couldn’t resist to open the door as its scent was tempting her somehow. Yet, she still hesitated a bit for what was coming next. Maybe it could be some kind of a prank.
But the boy suddenly grabbed her hand as he led her to the room. After a few footsteps inside, Skylar's eyes were sparkling.
All she saw were brown and white colors with the air full of sweetness. The small plants of mint, lavender, and chamomile claim her in a way.
“Woh… W... Why is there a room like this in here?”
She walked slowly to search for a strange bubbled sound she’d heard since she’d been coming in. She saw the large copper cauldron standing and looked at the steaming hot chocolate inside.
“Eat it.” Her craving for sweets talked to her.
She controlled herself and decided to walk a little bit further because she thought there was more to see around.
She went to the shelves of ancient jars as her finger touched the labels softly of different flavor of every chocolate tin. There were a few cookie jars and marshmallows next to the sugar icing jar or any topping that anyone could think of below the shelves.
Skylar then slowly threw herself to sit in a comfy green armchair. She glanced at the fireplace wacthing a warm crackle welcoming for whoever was visiting.
“So… How did you find this place?” She looked at Wes with a smile, seeing that the boy looked so excited about it.

Wes watched her as she looked around in amazement. It had all surprised him too, the first time he had found it. When she asked him why the room was here, he shrugged. Wes wondered the same thing.
Wes grabbed a chocolate chip cookie from a tin. It seemed like it was brand new. “I’m not sure, it’s just here. I guess for students during Christmas?” He said as he sat down in the burgundy chair next to her. “It’s weird there was only this red chair in here before.”
“Oh oh, the mug. It makes the hot chocolate the perfect temperature for your mouth! Not too hot, not too cold. No annoying tongue burns where you can’t taste anything.” The boy picked up the mug on the arm of chair. The larger than average mug had a peppermint swirl design.
As for how he found it, Wes smirked at Skylar while he leaned back in the chair and took a deep breath before recounting the tale. “One evening, just before dinner, I was walking the corridor and heard a sound. I followed it to around this part. When I got here there was a portrait over the door, but it had a riddle. I solved it and the prize was this room!” The smirked stayed on Wes’ face and he looked at the other student awaiting her comment about how she was amazed or something.
It did not come because one of the portraits in the room spoke immediately after Wes finished. It was an elderly man, in a burgundy armchair of his own. He had a long handlebar mustache and a monocle. The man in the portrait let out a chuckled sigh and shook his head. “My dear, do not listen to the boy. There was no riddle. A house elf told him. Though that is not as a good of a story, I suppose.” The man then stood up and walked out of his portrait to the left.
Wes’ freckles right under his eyes swirled lightly as he rolled them, but he laughed after. “Yeah… that’s true. I got lucky.”
Then he stood up to head toward the cauldron, grabbing his mug and holding out his free hand to her. “Do you want some?”

Skylar was watching the boy already comfortable in this strange place as he grabbed all the things around him. She was a bit concerned because the word ‘what if’ popped up in her mind.
“Wait! You shouldn’t do that. What if this is a room that belongs to one of the professors? Are we gonna be punished for being here?”
But the boy smirked and leaned in the chair as he said. “One evening, just before dinner, I was walking the corridor and heard a sound. I followed it to around this part. When I got here there was a portrait over the door, but it had a riddle. I solved it and the prize was this room!”
Skylar calmed down a little. If what he said was true, it didn’t feel like the room belonged to anyone. Still, there was a doubt in her mind. Wes didn’t seem like the type of person who liked to solve a riddle.
He was brave and straightforward. Even she had spent only a day with him, but his personality wasn't hard to read. As she was in silence, thinking, the voice of the third person in a room speaking, out of the blue.
“What the…”
Skylar nearly jumped out of her seat and glanced around to find the person. She saw Wes looked up to one of the portraits. She then followed his eyes.
“My dear, do not listen to the boy. There was no riddle. A house elf told him. Though that is not as a good of a story, I suppose.”
Skylar raised her eyebrows, listening. She chuckled a bit and then laughing at the boy.
“I knew it! There was something didn’t add up.”
The mood lightened up of a sudden, making her feel a bit more comfortable now. As the boy grabbed his mug and gently offered his service, Skylar gave her mug to him carefully.
“One cup of hot chocolate, please.” She teased him with a smirk before she said. “Thank you so much.”

Wes rolled his eyes again, playfully, as he walked over to the Cauldron. “You know,” he said looking over his shoulder, “keep being like that and I won’t show you any of the other cool places I’ve found in the Castle.”
With a ladle that was sat near Hot Chocolate, he scooped out some for the pair of them. Plopping a marshmallow down in both before returning.
He had noticed the concern when he first brought her in. “Did you think we were in a restricted area or something? Scared we’d get points deducted for being here?” His questions were teasing and he smiled, handing her the mug. “I thought Slytherins were supposed to be more daring.”
The Gryffindor plopped down in the armchair, a bit of his drink splashing out onto his hand. A bit too hot and it caused him to wince a little. ”Oh… the mugs… they only make it the right temperature for your hands, still scolding if you spill it on yourself or someone… ooh very hot…” He said, still shaking his hand a bit.
After Wes put his mouth on the light burn spot for a second he sat up and arched a brow at her. “Ah come on, I had you on the edge of your seat with the story of how I found it. Don’t lie!” It was all said with a laugh and then he took a sip of his drink, a light a hot cocoa mustache thinly on his upper lip.

Skylar chuckled as she watched the boy walk to the cauldron with a bit of annoyance.
“I’m just kidding.… I’m just kidding.” She chuckled again behind his back.
Even his phrase sounded like he was a bit upset that she teased him, but he managed to scoop up the Chocolate for her anyway.
As he was handling the filled mug for her, he continued, “I thought Slytherins were supposed to be more daring.”
Skylar extended her arm and carefully grabbed it from the side.
“Well… I’m not in the brave house. Am I?” She said while taking a sip of hot chocolate. “I’m just smart enough to be cautious rather than regretting it after we found ourselves a detention.”
Skylar took another sip and just realized the flavor she sensed. The small amount of bitter and sweetness mixed together with a faint smell of mint which can make you feel enough refreshed while enjoying slowly.
“Woh… this is interesting.”
Skylar felt so warm inside while she took a third sip of her mug. Her eyes gazed at the boy a little to see if he was enjoying it too. It seemed like he flinched a little before he sat down.
“Be careful,” She said genuinely. He said. “Oh… the mugs… they only make it the right temperature for your hands, still scolding if you spill it on yourself or someone… ooh very hot…” His hand was still shaking.
Skylar sighed and shook her head. She thought he should have told him that first because he was the one who spilled it. But she kept silent and continued her leisure time.
She wasn’t sure how he would interpret her expression, but it seemed he thought Skylar still felt uncomfortable with the place.
“Okay! Okay… I admit!” She put her mug away as she said with her hand gesture. “This is the coolest place I’ve ever seen in Hogwarts today.”
She giggled and picked a marshmallow dipped in her hot chocolate. “You know… I love sweets,” She then swallowed it whole and said with her filled mouth, “But, I found only a candy jar in my common room. What a shame.”

Smart enough to be cautious, Wes thought about what she said. He smirked at her and spoke in a friendly, but teasing tone. “Cautious, sounds more like being a chicken to me.” He casually shrugged, hoping that his joking tone was thick enough to be noticed. “And here I was thinking that I had found someone who’d like to explore the castle.”
Wes sighed, but it was sigh he was exaggerating, and it he followed it with a lighthearted laugh. “The Hot Chocolate is good, huh? The House Elves make it, at least I’m guessing they do.”
When he watched her enjoy the hot chocolate, and heard her mention the sweet tooth, he stood up to grab something. After filtering through some tins for a second he returned with a handful of butterscotch and plopped them down on the little table between the two chairs. “They have a lot of that stuff in here, take some back.
The boy took another sip from his mug and let out a deep breath. “Ahhh.” He then stopped and narrowed his eyes at her, finally realizing what she had said. It was the coolest place she had seen today. “Oh come on, Skylar. Where have you seen a cooler place here?” He was sitting up now, a smile on his face. The boy took the teasing well and seemed up for banter. “Unless you’re holding out on me. Maybe you’re not as much of a chicken as I thought.” The smile then turned into a smirk, almost as if Wes was inviting the banter back.

Skylar looked at his smirk when the boy teased her. She pointed at him with her marshmallow. “Hey! Don’t call me that. You’re the one who got the chicken.” She tried to remind him of the gift he got from the first day they met with her voice sounded like a mix of annoyance and chuckling at the same time.
“I liked to explore, but I’m not the type who goes straight to danger. I am more like a sneaky person.” She admitted genuinely, and she wasn’t scared of how Wes was going to judge her because she knew he would say whatever he thought anyway.
While enjoying the soft touch of fluffy marshmallows, soaking in smooth, dipped chocolate, her eyes gazed as the boy suddenly stood up, scanning through the shelves.
“What are you doing?”
She curiously looked at him from behind before he came back to his seat, giving her a small pile of butterscotch.
“T…Thank you.”
Skylar was surprised. She told him that she liked sweets, but she didn’t want anything from him. Even though it technically belonged to the room, but he seemed to care enough to find them and give them to her.
Skylar took a sip from her mug before she drank it down in one shot. She felt full, but still had some room for cookies. She glanced at the shelves behind Wes, trying to find some of it with her eyes.
Then, the boy said to her. “Oh come on, Skylar. Where have you seen a cooler place here?” There was a smile on his face as he added. “Unless you’re holding out on me. Maybe you’re not as much of a chicken as I thought.”
Skylar put her mug on the table as she smirked, “Not seen any cooler place yet. But I’m planning to.”
She thought about how she had been prepared to go to the Forbidden Forest, but hesitated to tell him.
