Gathering Courage and First Interaction
After coming back from a walk, Rose decided to stop by the Great Hall before heading towards the Ravenclaw common room. She went to the Ravenclaw table and sat while heavily sighing.
Even though she took a walk and was able to take her mind off things, she couldn't help but feel a bit down. Maybe she was missing her parents, and she hasn't been able to really spend time with her brother since he was busy with homework and also had his friends.
She was feeling a bit lonely. She thought of writing a letter to her parents later during the day or tomorrow.
The the group of student she crossed path earlier during her walk came back to her mind. They seemed happy, joyful to be all together and enjoy their times at Hogwarts. Though she isn't an extraverted person who needs to be surrounded all the time she still likes having one or two persons around her. So she tried to cheer up and to be more brave. Rose wanted to overcome her shyness and go up to other people, rather other first year, to talk and befriend them.
At that time she looked towards the Slytherin table where she saw a girl whose ash brown hair were tied in two lose breads. She has already seen that girl from afar but has never dared to talk to her.
Then the girl stood up to leave and so did Rose. She was going towards her.

Gathering Courage and First Interaction
Skylar was finally full after she let herself skip lunch again. Her favorite pumpkin juice couldn't go down her throat anymore. If she forced herself to drink it, she would puke on the table right away and leave an unpleasant scene to the sight definitely.
That’s why they said, ‘Don’t ever eat the food so fast when you’re hungry.’ Skylar thought as she let out a long sigh.
She stood up and decided to take a walk for a bit before going back to the Slytherin common room, but not even halfway through the Hall, she heard someone’s footsteps close to her.
Skylar stopped and looked toward the person. She saw a small, pretty face with green eyes. Another girl from Ravenclaw looked like someone wanted to try approaching her.
Noticing the girl’s face, she immediately understood the assignment.
“Hi!”
Skylar said before the girl even began to greet her.
She invited the girl with a soft handshake. Actually surprised that she was the one who started a conversation rather than staying still as usual. Maybe it’s because she recognizes the feeling of struggling to make friends, or this school was changing her in a good way.
However, the easiest way to start a small talk that she could think of was only the word ‘Hi’ and introducing herself.
“I’m Skylar.” She gave a gentle smile as she walked alongside the girl.

@Skylar AstorAs Rose was following the girl to catch up with her, her palms began to sweat and her heart to race. She felt anxious but she knew it was her chance to finally talk to someone.
Suddenly she saw the girl looking at her. Rose felt like freezing on the spot. The girl was around same size as Rose and was looking so pretty and confident that Rose forgot what she wanted to say. She noticed she was from the Slytherin House.
Then she heard the girl greeting her while offering a handshake.
Rose looked at the girl's hand and then her face before shaking her hand back as the girl introduced herself. Her name was Skylar. What a pretty name thought Rose.
The girl looked at Rose while smiling when Rose realised she hasn't introduced herself back.
I'm Rose! shyly said Rose while they started walking again toward the exit of the Great Hall.
As they were walking Rose thought Say something to her, you went to her otherwise you'll seem like a weirdo. Why so many negative thoughts, she breaths in and out to calm herself.
Are you going for a walk? Do you mind if I come with you? Rose asked Skylar reservedly.

After Rose asked, Skylar paused her footsteps for a moment.
“Yes, of course.” She said with a warm smile.
“I think I ate too much. I’m feeling so tight after dinner, so I just want some fresh air.”
The sound of something tried to escape from her throat. She began to stop her posture and looked like a mannequin. Skylar wanted to burp, but she couldn’t afford to lose her cool in front of her potentially new friend.
Then, she swallowed the air and finally stop the sound that tried to came out of her mouth. But the atmosphere had already become awkward, and the silence was loud.
She gave a small laugh, trying to make a bare face as usual, even though her inner side was freaking out.
Oh no! The weird me came out again. Why is it always at a moment like this? When will I ever be cool like other people?
She was blaming herself in her mind.
“Actually, it's nice to have some company. The nights may feel much prettier if there were someone to talk to.”
Thanking for her quick thought. The air between her and Rose went back to normal again.
After she reached the Great Hall doors, the cool wind brushed against her face as she glanced at Rose.
“Do you have a good meal like I did today?” Skylar chuckled when she asked gently.
It wasn’t sure if Rose would catch the hint of humor in her tone, but she just hoped it wouldn’t come off as an offense.

@Skylar AstorAfter Skylar answered Rose noticed Skylar's posture and face. She wondered what was happening to her but it made her smile internally thinking she might not be the only one to do weird things sometimes.
As soon as they reached the exit, Rose felt fresh wind brushing her face. Outside was already starting to get dark.
It was the kind of cool but not cold night. Slightly windy allowing the sky to be clear and ideal to stargaze which Rose loved to do. It was the perfect weather to go for a walk.
At the same time Rose heard Skylar chuckling while asking her if she ate as much as her.
Rose who usually wasn't eating much, didn't really eat that day neither. But judging by Skylar's tone and her chuckle she knew what Skylar meant. At least she believed so. Rose didn't want to take it as serious as it could have been. Plus Skylar's question made her internally smiled. Rose liked this kind of subtle humour. According to her not many people were daring to use it afraid to offense the person. But Skylar even though she didn't know much about Rose eventually did it which Rose appreciated. It was sometimes easier for her to get comfortable with someone through humour -especially this kind of- which was creating a sort of proximity. Plus that means Rose could the same.
She gave Skylar a mischevious smile.
"Every day". She said before slightly chuckling and going outside.
She then turned around to Skylar and calmly asked tilting slightly her head to one side.
"Should we then go for a "digestive run"?"
Rose hoped it wasn't too much and that Skylar would understand. She knew Skylar ate too much and that people usually don't run after eating.
She just wanted to gently tease Skylar whom she thought could become a good new friend.

“A digestive run?”
Skylar laughed. She was happy that the small talk she led went in a good direction for the first time.
“I could do it if you’d like.” She gave an unexpected response to see if it surprised Rose. She looked at the girl's face, then she chuckled again.
“But I’m not sure you could handle an unpleasant sight from my vomit.”
It’s not a good thing to say, but she couldn’t help expressing her weirdness when she was being herself too much.
The cool wind, the smell of plants, and the night sky just gave her even more courage to be herself. She felt comfortable enough to make this kind of teasing. She only hoped Rose didn’t mind her being like this.
Skylar looked up at the stars.
“It’ refreshing, isn’t it?”
Then she gently smiled at Rose, hoping a girl like the nature too.
“The quietness always calms me down when I am anxious or stressed, and the view of nature helps me think of my home.”
She inhaled deeply and paused for a moment to feel the atmosphere between her and Rose. What should she say more?
Then she gave a big smile. “Do you miss home?”

@Skylar AstorRose thought it was quite easy to get along with Skylar. She was finding her funny.
As they were outside in the dark of the night surrounded by the nature Skylar asked Rose if she was missing home.
Home thought Rose. Actually she hasn't really thought about it since she has come here and whether she was missing it or not.
She slightly smiled as she looked up at the clear sky to stargaze lost in her thoughts. Looking at this nighty sky reminded her of home.
Rose loved stargazing and she used to do it a lot back home with her brother before he left for Hogwarts. She then was doing it by herself until he was coming back for the vacation.
She couldn't say how long she stayed watching up at the sky before going to bed. Rose could hear again her mother's voice asking her and her brother to go back home and go to bed with his dad laughing in the background. From outside it might have been rather a comical scene.
It was nice. It has been a long time since Rose was able to stargaze with her brother especially. It was endless talk over the constellations, what they were seeing and the first one to see a shooting star. She did once actually, but her brother never believed her -at least that's what she was thinking-.
The old good times. she thought as she closed her eyes and breath the cool fresh air in to let these beautiful memories play out in her mind.
Rose opened her eyes again.
"It's not that I miss home but I do sometimes remember some good moments spent with my family and my brother especially -even though he is also at Hogwarts I have not really been able to see him a lot-. Right now being outside at night looking up at the endless dark starry sky reminds me of home. So yes I might do miss it a bit when I find myself doing something I used to back home." She said her eyes still fixed on the sky as tears welled up in her eyes. She quickly wiped it off before turning her face to Skylar to smile at her and add.
"What about you, Skylar?"

Hearing Rose ask if she missed her home, Skylar paused for a moment.
“Some part of it… I guess.”
She glanced far away as her mind drifted into the memories lane, but she didn’t express much of her emotion.
“I missed my garden that was always full of life. I missed the sound of water drops, the smell of grass and herbs, or even the pile of dirt I touched.”
She turned her head and looked at Rose.
“I think the best things I missed were when I had to deal with magical plants every day. Fighting with their protection mechanisms was fun, actually.”
She gave a big smile like she was there, as she said. Then the beautiful memories began to fade. She couldn’t help but think about how lonely she was, even though she was in her happy time.
“But… ”
Skylar wasn’t mad that her parents were so busy at work. She wasn’t mad that she wasn’t close to her siblings. But the memory of them wasn’t much on her mind. It means she hadn’t really spent much time with her family like other normal kids. This instead was upset her. She felt sad and lonelier to see someone had such a great memory like she never had.
She didn’t explain what she was going to say next. She just looked at Rose as she changed the topic.
“You seem to like watching the star. I guess you're interested in Astronomy, then.”
She smiled like she was confident in her assumption.

As Rose was listening to Skylar it seemed to her she had more memories by herself than spending time with her family since she didn't mention it. Maybe her parents were really busy.
It's true that even if Rose parents were a lot busy with work her brother whenever he could was always there for her and with her so she wouldn't feel lonely. Once he left to Hogwarts she found herself more alone but she had some friends and her dog to spend time with and as much as she can recall her parents were a bit more available to her.
Despite busy work they had always made sure to spent at least some time with their children, even only 5 minutes. Maybe for Skylar it hasn't been the case.
Rose looked at her wondering. However she didn't dare to ask as she thought it might a sensitive topic Skylar would rather avoid since she hasn't spoken about it by herself.
If Skylar wanted to talk about it one day to her, Rose would be here to listen to her.
"I guess so!" chuckled Rose.
"I don't know much about it yet, except what my brother told me about it and what he learnt. But true I have always been interested by it. I wonder what is up there above us, how does it look and how we do look -I mean earth- from up there. I find this so mysterious and fascinating." she added while looking at the sky her eyes sparkling.
When Skylar talked about her memories back home it was related to her garden. Rose thought Skylar must like nature a lot.
"It seems you really enjoy the nature. You must be very interested in Herbology, aren't you?" Rose asked with curiosity.

Skylar noticed the way Rose expressed her fascination with the star as she explained. She couldn’t stop smiling because it reminded her of herself being obsessed with plants.
It seemed Rose could see through her, too. After the girl asked her with curiosity, she chuckled a little.
“Yes, that is my favorite subject. I don’t know when I started liking plants. Maybe I just lived in a house that is full of gardens, so I grew up with them. Then I became obsessed with herbology.”
She paused for a moment to think about the main reason she kept her interest in plants. She crouched and picked up a small rock before throwing it into the lake. Then she said.
“Maybe I like plants because they’re the only friend I had back home. Even though they cannot talk but I can feel that they’re listening to me when I need someone to talk to.”
She looked at Rose with sad eyes but still kept smiling.
“I missed the plants and my home, but I am not regretting being here either, because I know what was waiting for me in the future.”
She thought about her plan and goal. It made her more excited about the next year ahead.
“Did you have anything to pursue besides finishing all the classes?”
