Bonabé Bonet was a fish out of water at Hogwarts. Though he had been to the school once before, never did he imagine staying for such an extended period of time. As the new Head of Hufflepuff, he was tasked with the administration of a quarter of the school’s student population. At a time when mysterious and dark events surrounded the school, this was no easy feat. He suspected that many had turned the role down out of fear for what had happened at the school during the 90’s. Why else would they have had to come all the way to America to seek his counsel? He hoped his experience as a leader in Ilvermorny would be more than enough to handle any task.

This evening, that task happened to be setting up a social gathering for the incoming staff.

If this were Louisiana, BonBon would have had no problem whipping up a giant cauldron of his duck gumbo. Sadly, ducks in Scotland were out of season. The old professor had to make due with whatever the house elves could carry over. The menu for the event would include a platter of lean meats and steamed veggies from the kitchen. Not content with serving mere leftovers, BonBon had ordered a wheel of dragon milk cheese, a popular appetizer for all manner of wizard gatherings. Finally, the elves managed to scrounge together some garlic toast. The host was quite satisfied with the layout, though he did not consider the effect this would have on peoples’ breath. He didn’t mind: BonBon didn’t get his belly from being picky after.

Such a gathering usually would have been held in one of the many halls or offices around the castle. The head of Hufflepuff, however, thought the kitchen would do quite nicely. It was close to his office, so no winding stairs to traverse. Plus, any more food needed could be easily acquired from the pantry. Besides, if they were to all live under the same roof (albeit a giant roof), what better way to get to know the others than in the kitchen? it was typically where his family met after all.

"Yes, I reckon this will do nicely," he remarked to himself. It was ten minutes past curfew. All the students would be in bed by now (or should be). The house elves were already retiring for the night: they had to get up early to prepare breakfast. The professors would have the kitchen all to themselves.

The school was practically a maze, one that was frustrating the young Japanese woman. How anyone navigated the dungeons was beyond her. She had stopped a passing House-Elf, politely asking for directions to the kitchens. Relief flooded her as the little creature was able to give very accurate instructions. She thanked the elf, giving a small bow of respect with a bow of her head, and moved quickly on, mildly worried about Cypresse getting here. Then again, maybe she'd have an easy time than Aoi. Her sister had a way of getting around independently.

Aoi hadn't really met her fellow staff members. But of course, this dinner meeting was to resolve that very issue. She had heard that most of the staff had changed over for the new year. Replacements for six classes so far, and two more to go. The events surrounding the school had required more formidable staff perhaps. Aoi was confident that she could fulfill her role sufficiently. Still, the stories were concerning, and she wondered how much was actually true.

Aoi had a good notion of why she was hired. She was a recipient of a golden robe at Mahoutokoro. She was a multilinguist. She knew how to hunt down fugitives and was a capable fighter and duelist. And of course, she was an expert in her field. Aoi could only hope the students and staff would take to her well.

As Aoi entered the kitchen, it was remarkable how different it was from the kitchens of Japan, and yet so similar. The food would be different though. She had been in the UK for 7 years now though, and she as quite used to the fare. And boy she was hungry. Organizing her office had taken up quite the amount of energy. Food would be a welcome sight.

"私はとても空腹だ!What's for dinner?" Aoi exclaimed to no one in particular. She eyes grew bright at the display of meats, veggies, cheese, and bread. In quick order, she noticed the host of the night. The newest Head of House for Hufflepuff, Professor Bonet. The older man was quite...well...hairy. Not that was an issue. Just unexpected. "こんばんは, Professor Bonet. It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Aoi Risa. If my name is too complicated, feel free to call me Sky. I'm the new Professor of the History of Magic. I look forward to working with you."
私はとても空腹だ!= Watashi wa totemo kūfukuda! = I am quite hungry!
こんばんは = Konbanwa = Good Evening.

Sometimes, making the wrong choice is better than making no choice. You have the courage to go forward, that is rare.

He entered the kitchens only to be greeted with a disheartening sight. Only two people were there. That meant he would have to wait until everyone else showed up. Everyone. Else. So much for the rest of his day. He figured ten to one odds they were out somewhere laughing about the poor chumps that had to talk with each other until the table was full. First man he noticed was a fat man. A fat lion man. A fat lion man that looked as though he had just stepped out of some kind of backwater in america. Oh, lord, that was a horrible thought. What if that man was an american?

The odds of that were low, however. After all, they had hired him. Think how desperate they must have been if they were forced to retrieve someone all the way from america? And then the truth hit him like a ton of Murphy’s law infused bricks. They had hired him, hadn’t they? A man unable to provide references or sufficient background? They were desperate. He was about to stifle a groan, but then didn’t stifle it, and instead slightly subdued it, making sure they could hear him, but just barely.

His first order of business was to isolate himself. An easy task, it always was. The last thing he wanted were friends. They would want to talk, and bother him. Ask him for advice or other such time wasting frivolities. If they truly needed advice only he could give, they would seek him out even if he wasn’t their friend.

The second person there was… Oh, lord. She was an oriental weeaboo. She literally started her sentences in Japanese just to prove to everyone how japanese she was! She clearly spoke english, why the hell would she do that? If she wore huge contacts and a mini skirt to class he was to kill something. If he wasn’t in a bad mood before, he certainly was now. He had stayed for a while with a magician. A anime crazed magician. If he hadn’t been so good, there was no way Morfran would have tolerated it.

But now there was one on staff. A weeaboo on staff. If he hadn’t already come to the conclusion that they were desperate, this would have cemented it in his mind.

“Professor, I’m assuming you’re not the chef around here, which would pin you as a staff. Did they hire her? To work? Here? This woman literally just started both of her sentences with japanese.

Just to prove she could speak it! It’s like a hormone-crazed teenager that found a lot of aging potion and then promptly discovered fanservice. This is... ”

It was here he broke off. No point in getting kicked out before the rest arrived, at any rate. Even if he hadn’t come in with the goal of establishing himself as the villain, there is no way he would have liked that woman. A weeaboo in Hogwarts. What was this place coming to?

“If this is a complaint would you mind sending it with an owl? It's easier to ignore."

After thirteen years of living and teaching in Durmstrang, Elena felt ill at ease at Hogwarts. There were certain places, an alcove here, a corridor there, a fireplace with gargyole heads guarding it, the arch of a door that was crooked just so... they made her forget that she was in other castle, that this wasn't her school, and it made er uneasy beyond measure. For a heartbeat or two Hogwarts could feel like Durmstrang. It lowered her guard, opened her heart and made her forget to watch her back. The experience set her on edge every time, something Elena certainly wasn't fond of being.

It was better here in the Kitchens, simply because of all the house elves mingling about. Durmstrang had personnel who took care of the castle. There was the odd goblin among them and the cook was a half-hag, sure, but employing an army of literal slaves - albeit freed - had made her raise an eyebrow when she'd first heard of it. Hogwarts was a peculiar place, indeed.

Still, those elves were certainly well-versed in their craft, if the smell hanging in the air was anything to go by. Intrigued by the thought of having of a proper meal for once, Elena rounded a corner and finally found herself in a kind of dining area that had obviously been prepared to host the Professors.
“Just to prove she could speak it! It’s like a hormone-crazed teenager that found a lot of aging potion and then promptly discovered fanservice. This is... ”
The sneering voice of a man greeted her. He was tall, angular face, rugged appearance, but with proper boots on his feet, and currently looking down his nose at a not-so-small, young woman of obvious Asian descent. Off to the side stood another Professor with a potbelly and a haircut that reminded her decidedly of a lion's mane.

Unsure of whether or not she was intruding Elena took another, audible, step forward, the heels of her dragonhide boots echoing off the stone floor.

I hope I am not intruding,” she adressed the small gathering of Professors. She deliberatley kept her hands beside her body, palms showing - the gruff man looked trigger-happy enough to draw a wand if startled, and the last thing she wanted to begin a meeting with her new colleagues with was a duel. “Elaine Pendrast, I am the new Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Pleased to meet you all.

Oh yes, she would need a while to get used to introducing herself as Elaine again. Old habits died hard, especially when they'd been cultivated over decades.

Thurston hated being in the Great Hall which was full of those little devils called students. It was enough that he had to deal with them in his free time; he wanted to at least eat in peace. So whenever he could he would not show up to eat there but rather spend his time in Hogwarts kitchen where the houseelves were grateful for the little attention they could get from a wizard and if it just was to bring him food on a plate.

The young man, so far the youngest of the current professors, was heading towards the kitchen like usually but did not expect so many people to be there. If they all were in here who would take care of the bratty attitude of those troublemakers? That Deathmote guy could be on a killing spree without any professor to intervene. He sighed as he walked in without bothering to greet anyone, that would mean talking to too many people.

Well it could be that they haven't even noticed his person, so if that was the case be would gladly leave it like that. Well he would not ignore any of them if they would talk to him, he just was not the kind of guy who would make the first step in a conversation. With a frown he watched a houseelve appear in front of him shoving a mug with steaming coffee into his hand. Thurston nodded in silent thanks as he watched the small creature disappear before taking a sip of the coffee and looking at those who would now br his colleagues.

Mingling. Why did everywhere always insist on colleagues meeting and 'mingling' outside of work hours? She understood the benefits of getting along with some people but that did not mean she had to mix with everyone. A few useful connections were far better than plenty of useless ones. This was one of the reasons that she enjoyed her years in the Department of Mysteries the most, perhaps.  No one expected people to 'mingle'. They were free to work alone. They were encouraged, in fact, to be secretive and closed. It was the norm. It made things easier. Nonetheless, she had a mission today. Of course, she did. She rarely ever did anything without some motive behind it.

The Slytherin female left her dungeons shortly after the allocated meeting time. Hopefully, she had given people ample time to gather, so she could meet everyone, carry out her task and leave before long. Sadly, she did not. She reached the kitchens earlier than the majority of Professors had. A pity, that. Pushing the door open, she stepped inside and scanned the room. She recognised a few but the majority were strangers.

"Evening," She gave a singular nod as she entered the room in the general direction of Professor Risa, an older gentleman and a black haired lady that she did not know. "Nora Jensen." She introduced herself, using her middle name because no one could ever say her first name anyway. She had gone by her middle name since she was a child as a result, and it was a name that had a lot of meaning behind it. The grumpy man was simply ignored. She did not have the time or patience to deal with his issues. In the corner lurked another boy, who probably did not want to be there either. Moving towards the counter, Hjørdis lifted her hand and placed a bottle of Campbell's Finest Old Whiskey onto it that she had picked up from Hogsmeade as she was arriving. She cracked the cap open, "Can I get anyone a drink?" She asked the room, deciding she was going to pour herself one and she may as well offer. It was polite, apparently. She had a mission to complete, after all.

This is my former staff account.

The Head of Slytherin house arrived just a few minutes later. An unwelcome sight at the best of times, but one that was slightly better than that of the ‘authentic weeb’. Another man had entered, and by his actions, Morfran knew they would get along wonderfully. That professor, if professor was indeed what he was, would stay on one side of the room, displeased with society and people in general, and Morfran himself would stay far to the other side of the room, equally displeased. They could quietly judge each other and not get in each others way. It sounded almost too good to be true.

The woman that had entered before that other quiet man had seemed not annoying, at the very least. She hoped she wasn’t intruding, which was manners for ‘Hi, I’m intruding now.’ But she used manners, so he couldn’t honestly complain about that. After that brief introduction she had simply introduced herself. The pleased to meet you all was a bit superfluous, he wasn’t buying that she wanted to be here in the slightest. None of them, save the fat lion man professor, wanted to be here. He amended himself, pointing out internally that the authentic weeb was probably preppy enough to actually be looking forward to this.

Weren’t people supposed to grow out of that phase when they reached their twenties? But then, a light. Angels started to sing and a beam of glorious light illumined the Head of Slytherin. Or, more accurately, illuminated the bottle of alcohol she was holding. She was an angel, a questionable angel sent from above to offer him alcohol. Good alcohol. A tiny smile cracked his lips. She was just being polite, he knew that. She didn’t want anything to do with him and had ignored him, he knew that. But she had offered, and said anyone. He was an anyone.

A new plan formed rapidly. Get drunk and then wake up the next morning with this stupid meeting a haze. He knew full well he would probably never do that. Getting drunk around creatures was asking for trouble. But a man could dream, couldn't he? And besides, a little buzz would be fine, and lord knew he needed it.

“Yes please, Professor Jensen. If you would be so kind, I would gladly accept the socially forced offer with as much appreciation as I can muster.”

And in case she didn’t quite hear, or pretended to not understand he reiterated.

“Alcohol, please.”

Besides, he figured the odds of him getting completely ignored were only about one in five. Good odds.

The time was a little past the curfew for Hogwarts. Well, it was for the students at least. There were any simple little things that made the young woman feel happy and 'sparkly' on the inside. The fact that she was old enough to not have to go to sleep early was one of them. Who said age was what made you an adult? It certainly wasn't Elaine. Heck, she was like a child in many ways. Still, it felt good to stay up past her 'bedtime'.

As the castle was sleeping and it was dark, it felt very nice to feel like she was sneaking around at night. It was hard to comprehend that she was now a professor and some rules didn't apply to her. So many things felt like she was breaking the rules, but in reality, it really wasn't. It was almost as if her brain, wherever that microscopic thing was, was taking pity on her childishness and letting her believe she was being 'rebellious'.

So, here she was, scampering around the hallways, making her way to the kitchen for what seemed to be a late night meeting for professors. Sometimes it even scared those around her how childish she was. Or at least she's been told so. But she had too much heart to ever let that change the way she did things. Elaine always just thought of herself to just know what her heart and spirit liked. And if it happened to be childish, immature, and not worthy of respect, then so be it.

The doors of the kitchen would open just enough for her to slip through. The blonde wasn't very big in size, but she did make up for most of it with her height. It seemed like she wasn't the first to arrive. Which was good, who wanted to be the first anyway? They were supposed to meet here after all. Jen, the Head of Slytherin who was actually named Hjørdis Jensen, but Elaine's brain capacity was only so big, had some sort of alcohol and the Care of Magical Creatures professor, Griff, again, her brain was only so big, was asking for some.

The blonde had honestly never tried alcohol before, even though she was of age. So like a child, she was curious with her little 'grabby hands'. "Ooooh, is that alcohol? I wanna try," Elaine would almost squeak. It did seem like a bad idea. After all, she was basically a child still.

Anton Nagal didn't believe in social gatherings.

No, that wasn't it.

Anton Nagal didn't believe that he was ever late to social gatherings.

Even though Hogwarts had once been his home, a safety net away from figures who loathed his very existence, he felt weird being offered a job to teach. Sure, he had the qualifications - NEWTs in Potions wasn't too hard to come by when the majority of his sixth and seventh year were spent studying harder subjects that few at Hogwarts even took. But that was a ruse for later, a thought he'd have to remember when it came down to it. For now, he had a social gathering to get to.

Thankfully, the newest Potions Professor wasn't too far from the kitchens. Once the classes were done for the day - and, often times, between classes - the alchemist would still be working on brews, whether simple potions or more complicated ones that only came with over ten years of practice. Even so, he was at his classroom and had finally finished cleaning his equipment before he arrived. He was on time on his schedule. He still worked to the cooling of a cauldron.

He stepped into the kitchens and gave a look, studying for a long moment faces and habits. "Evening, folks," he said simply as he shut the door, moving towards where the other teachers seemed to be. Some of them looked particularly bored; others didn't. Or, perhaps, they were tired from teaching. Anton could compare teaching children to making a potion; the former was twelve times easier. It was all a matter of perception, if he was asked.

"Anton Nagal. Potions."

He didn't bring his alchemy up. It wasn't like he kept his shop back in Dufftown a secret. He just never led with it.

The school was a maze. When Cy had first arrived as a First Year a decade and a year ago, she’d thought as much, but back then she had her sight, poor as it was. She had been absent for four years now, and although she could navigate the corridors well enough, the moving stairs were another story.

Cypress had never visited the Kitchens. In fact, she’d never known where it was, not even now - not completely. A pair of House Elves had escorted her down the stairs, but the climb from the Sixth Floor to the Basement was long, and so they’d left five minutes earlier than necessary.

And so she was on time. The stairs had been stubborn, frustratingly so, but the House Elves’ patience seemed to have no end - so she thanked them with a dip of her chin, a smile, and gracious words at her arrival. She heard nothing in return from the little creatures, whose names she had learned for a few moments only to forget them, only hurried footsteps into the oncoming din of the Kitchen, and so the young professor entered as well… just in time to hear the elderly voice insulting her sister.

The woman had worried over her impression. She’d spent a long while debating whether or not to hide her off-looking eyes or leave them, but ultimately decided to blindfold herself - her impairment was part of her; it would need to be introduced alongside every other part of her, and it would not do to pretend it did not exist. A few swathes of thin, soft silk encircled her head, tied at the back in a simple knot with the loose ends dangling. The fabric was a simple sapphire blue, adorned with strands and circlets of copper beads wreathing her head over the silk. It had been bought by Aoi and gifted to her on the day of her graduation, five years after they’d met and four years from the present. The simple tapered cane in her hand swept back and forth gently as she walked.

She could have laughed! What was it that she was hearing? This old man, from the sound of his voice, calling her sister… an anime lover? The young woman choked on an incredulous giggle, stifling it behind her hand, and advanced a step further into the Kitchen, clearing her throat pointedly as she swept a small half-circle before her to ensure that she would not walk straight into someone or something. “Good day, Mister…?” she trailed off - she hadn’t caught his name, sadly. Her words were ever more powerful when they were addressed to a name. “It sounds to me like the only person here acting like a hormone-crazed teenager, as you so courteously put it, is yourself - with all due respect, of course. After all, only a child’s mind would be so quick to assume a correlation between a couple of words in a different language and something as lowly as anime, even without knowing anything about those words, yeah?”

She paused to chuckle. “I suppose I should be pleased to inform you that my sister is both Japan-born and Japan-raised, and to assure you that there’s more to the country than mere cartoons, but if cartoons are really all you know, then I guess I can’t say anything. You can see how frustrating it can be for me, of course - you must know the feeling, admonishing an unruly teenager, maybe, who is really not a teenager but who fooled you into thinking so from his immature actions.” A grin.

The smile was genuine. It was likely also why most did not feel offended at all by her smart mouth - she didn’t often mean them as hostile, only used them jokingly, even if the notion they encompassed was honest. The art of sass was one that she had perfected to her own liking, whether or not it was regarded as unjust or simply failing by others. Aoi could defend herself just fine - she had no need for Cy to step in, and oftentimes it was the opposite that happened, but it was such a waste to miss such a good chance.

“Cypresse Yu-Ling Lian, by the way,” she added, the innocent grin lessening down to a warm tilting up of her lips. “Or Cy, if it pleases you. Professor of Transfiguration.” No move was made to emphasize or even indicate her blindness - she was certain that the others would be able to guess from her blindfold and cane; if not, she had something to say about the teachers Hogwarts hired - and no move would be made unless she was asked explicitly.

Aoi was always far better at social subjects than Cy. The young woman was not so terribly timid as to avoid socialization, but she would still rather read a good book or get some work done than attend a concert or go shopping. And then, of course, there was her blindness. She did not mind the questions; in fact, inquiry was invited. What Cypresse hated was the obvious air of ignorance that most people treated her with. They would avoid the topic of her blindness at all costs, even if its mention was practically necessary in the conversation. They would change the subject, typically somewhat awkwardly, whenever it was brought up, so suddenly the it was obvious. Most vexingly, they would assume, assume that she needed help, that she should have everything done for her - frustrating was too small of a word for it.

Her sister was another story. The scarves hung in her office - all results of gifts, souvenirs from various travels and stores. She was not afraid to ask for help, and although Cy was well-practiced in the action, there was still a small not of hesitation before she did so, but the two had become close as sisters in the nine years that they had known each other despite their differences.
