Mission: Makeup Impossible
It was after lunch in the Great Hall when Nova had decided to escape into the bathroom. It was the second week at Hogwarts and she was already slammed with assignments and such. Despite this, she had decided it was the perfect time to try makeup for the first time.
Did she have any experience with it at all? Nope. The most Nova had worn was some lip gloss and the times her mother had put some on her. She'd always liked the makeup on her, but she hadn't made an effort to learn any at all.
So now she was in the girl's bathroom with a small bag of makeup taken from her mother's room. It was quiet, weirdly enough. Just her and one loose tap dripping water.
She stared at her reflection in the pristine mirror. OK, I can do this. It can't be that hard, can it? She thought to herself, taking a breath before opening the small bag. The zip was loud and she peeked inside to see what there was.
Inside, a small assortment of multiple tubes, compacts and brushes. They seemed easy enough, so Nova picked one out and looked at the label. Mascara. She twisted it open, a small pop sound as she pulled it out.
Oh wow, it's a weapon. Nova wondered in surprise. She wasn't completely inexperienced, she had seen her mother use it on herself. It had made Nova think she'd accidentally poke her eye every time.
"Okay, let's do this without blinding ourselves." She muttered to herself before bringing the wand close to try and apply it. She felt it graze her lashes before she started blinking rapidly, which made her pull it away from her face.
"Alright, no war paint on my eyes for now," she murmured as she dropped it back into the bag like it had stung her. She leaned close to the mirror. Her lashes had definitely touched the wand, but had any mascara actually gone on them? Unclear.
She sighed, lifting a hand to rub her eye. Wrong idea. It smudged terribly, making her look like a panda on one side. She glared at her reflection in irritation. How am I supposed to fix this?

Pam stepped into the girl's lavatory, expecting peace and maybe a moment to fix her head, which had taken to standing out in all directions, and immediately froze, blinking at the sight in front of her. What on earth is that...?
There was a girl standing at the sink, glaring literal daggers into the mirror, seeming as though she was preparing for a war.
Or maybe recovering from one.
What had actually startled her was the fact that the girl was.... well something was very wrong with her eyes. One was smudged dramatically while the other was spotless clean. Kung-fu panda... wait no. Pam squinted, trying to look at what the girl had applied while simultaneously trying to melt into the background. She suddenly wished she was a chameleon. Is that mascara or eyeliner?
Pam had very little knowledge about makeup, especially since there was no-one to really advise her on it. Her father was good with colors, so he could help her pick out lip-balms that could suit her, but she had to teach herself how to apply them. There was no help there. Then of course, came the eyeliners.
Pam, although she had never used mascara, was familiar with eyeliners. Admittedly, it was one of the few kinds of makeup she actually liked, not just tolerated. It made her eyes stand out, and well, she did have pretty eyes, if she did say so herself.
But this girl, she was unknown territory. Pam nearly walked straight back out. The girl spotted her first. Welp, there goes my escape. She raised her hand and waved awkwardly, "Uh hi? Would you maybe like a handkerchief?"

Adora was a little behind on homeowrk, so she rushed to finish it at lunch, while also trying to eat enough. She had decided she was full about three bites in, and she had then moved to a new location on the fourth floor, near he girls lavatory, in case the little food she'd had didn't settle well.
She sat there, working and working and working until her hand cramped. "Ow!" She pulled her hand away from the paper, shaking it. She decided to take a break. She went into the lavatory, and took a breather. she ran her hands under warm water. When she was ready, she walked back out and continued to work.
A few minutes in, a girl walked into the bathroom. By the looks of her robes, she was a hufflepuff. She had blond curly hair as well, and was holding a small bag, and Adora could hear the contents shaking in side as she walked by. Adora looked back down, thinking about the girl. I hope there's nothing dangerous in the bag. I wouldn't want her to get in trouble.
As time passed, another girl walked into the restroom. She heard someone speaking in the bathroom, probably the girl who had just walked in. Adora became curious. She put her howork back in her satchel, and walked in. She saw the girl with the bag, except she had makeup all over her face, and kind of resembled a clown. "Uhm, are you two ok?" She asked.

Nova glared at her reflection, feeling completely done with makeup even if she had only tried one thing from the bag. Her reflection stared back, the smudge around her eye seeming bigger now. She groaned loudly, facepalming. As she was about to start yelling at herself, she heard a voice. “Would you, maybe, like a handkerchief?”
She glanced behind her in the mirror and saw a girl with blonde hair, looking like she had seen a ghost. She turned around, trying to look as dignified as was possible while having makeup smudged on her face. She smiled gratefully, hoping the girl wouldn’t look appalled at the mess she had made.
She felt a bit exasperated as yet another girl walked in, asking if they were alright. “I’m just fine,” she answered, tone dry. “Just had a fight with a mascara wand and lost.” She didn’t recognize either of the girls but she knew the newest arrival was a Hufflepuff from the Sorting a while back.
She gestured to her face vaguely as she spoke again, voice sheepish. “I thought it’d look cuter than this. I was trying to achieve makeup goddess, not a panda from the zoo.” Her sarcasm dripped thicker than the mascara on her lashes. More like her face, but still.
She raised an eyebrow hopefully, looking at both of them. “Do either of you know how to fix this? I think I need some help.” Clearly.

Pam raised her eyebrows as another girl stepped in shortly after her, asking... basically a question with a very obvious answer. The panda girl (and no, she most definitely wasn't calling her that to her face) was very much not fine, especially with the current situation of her eye.
Pam grinned as the girl also referred to herself looking like a panda, handing her the handkerchief. I knew I wasn't the only one who saw that similarity. "You should probably start by removing all of that." She said, voice gentler than her expression, She was expressive, but she didn't want the girl to thing she was making fun of her. "Most of my makeup knowledge is limited to eyeliners and eyeshadows I'm afraid. But..." She gave the girl a once-over, "I'm sure we can figure something out!"
She turned to look at the newest arrival, offering a friendly smile. She had an inkling that she had seen this girl getting sorted on the first day, although she couldn't, for the life of herself, remember where she had been sorted.
"How's your knowledge on the quirks of makeup?" She asked her jokingly, subconsciously gravitating towards the small bag of cosmetics the first girl seemed to have brought with her and she added, "Can I look at what you have there?"

Adora stood there, watching. She'd seen her mother put on makeup before, but she'd never done it herself. Maybe it wasn't that hard? She wanted to ask, but wasn't sure. She walked over to the counter and grabbed a paper towel, and "wiped" the counter while she tried to work up the courage to ask. The girl who had walked in after Makeup Girl was handing her a handkerchief. Adora excused her self to gather her stuff from outside the lavatory.
What the actually did was try think about how her mother did her makeup. She did pick up her things, though, so she wouldn't look suspicious. She walked back into the room, only to immediately set her things down again. Now that she had a chance to stop and really look at these girls, she realized she kind of recognized Makeup Girl. Handkerchief Girl was completely new. She fiddled a little with her hands, but couldn't decide what to do.
She moved her hair from her face, blowing out of the way. When that failed, she moved it with her hands, tucking it behind one ear.
Finally, she knew she had to ask.
"Could I try to do makeup?" she asked, tapping Makeup Girl on the shoulder.

Nova took the handkerchief from the girl, turning to somehow try to fix the mess that was her face. She turned on the tap of water, the pipes making a suspicious noise that sounded like clanging. The girl wasn’t wrong when she had told her to start by removing everything, but Merlin help her if she got some sort of eye infection because of a stupid makeup wand.
As she rubbed at her eye and pulled it away cautiously, she was relieved to see she didn’t look like something out of a horror film. One with really bad CGI. She gave her reflection a judgmental look, as if to tell herself, ‘Do better.’ She turned to the girl, nodding when she stepped towards her bag of weapons—cosmetics. “Sure, just don’t poke your eye out or anything by accident.” She said with a small smile.
She watched the girl ruffle through the bag, deciding the silence was getting too awkward to let it continue. “I really did think I’d look like those movie girls who do makeup once and look completely different. Guess I don’t need it.” She joked, running the handkerchief under the water again to clean it from the mascara.
She suddenly felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to look, noticing the first-year standing there, asking quietly. “Could I try to do makeup?” Nova’s first instinct was to immediately go, ‘Why would you want to touch this battlefield?’ But the girl sounded so genuine, she stopped herself. She slowly nodded, shifting to face the younger girl. “Sure, why not? You be the artist and I’ll be the beautiful muse who just sits around doing nothing.” She struck a small, dramatic pose while answering. Hopefully she doesn’t go for the mascara again.

Pam smiled at panda girl, busying herself with opening the makeup bag and taking a peek inside. The latter's words made her laugh and she responded with a grin, eyes twinkling, "Don't worry, I don't plan to use any... yet." Her eyes widened at the amount of stuff inside the bag. Oh wow. Are these all hers?
Pam had never personally bought a lot of makeup for herself. It had never particularly fascinated her, and well, it was a field where her father lacked knowledge. So no-one had been there to teach her. She used a lot of lip color, and often experimented in that category to find what suited her skin tone. Other than that, she used eyeliners very little. And the colors were either black or brown. It had taken her a decent while to figure out a shade which looked nice on her, and after solving that problem, she had not attempted to go any further into the topic.
Her interest had peaked tonight though.
Panda girl's bag was half-full with all kinds of cosmetics: eyeliners, lip gloss, foundation, face powder, concealer, and something that looked suspiciously like an eyelash curler. Never touching that thing. Pam's fingers twitched away from the formidable-looking equipment, instead settling on a rectangular box. She opened it curiously, "Oh! Is this eyeshadow? The colors are pretty."
Looking up, she noted that the third, younger girl had asked for permission to try the makeup and Pam grinned. This should be entertaining. She wondered if the third girl knew makeup. Why on earth am I calling them third girl and panda girl? She clicked her tongue, and clapped her hands to draw their attention, "I believe some introductions are in order?"

Adora walked up to the counter, where the makeup bag was sitting. I've never done this before- what if I mess up? "I believe some introductions are in order?" Handkerchief Girl Asked interuppeted her thoughts. Perfect timing. I wonder if that's something she does often. Adora looked to Makeup girl, who was washing out the handkerchief. "I'm Adora." She said. She looked into the makeup bag, and noticed it was stock-full. woah she thought. There's no way she knows how to use all of that. Adora reached into the bag and pulled out a brush. The handle was thick, and the bristles spread out into an oval-like shape. She remembered her mother using it on her cheeks. It always had pink on it. Blush. This brush has to be used for that. She set it back into the bag, and looked at what Handkerchief Girl had. It was a blue palate, with shiny teals, blues, and silver arranged in a nine-square. Adora reached for a different brush, and a palate similar to Handkerchief Girl's. She opened it, and dabbed the brush on a nude-toned pink-brown color. Here goes. She stroked the back of her hand, laughing to herself about how it tickled the back of her hand. It left a line just a little pinker than her skin, but it matched. She picked up the bigger brush from before, and poked her hand nothing happened. She tried again, a little harder this time, and the powder blended out.

Nova raised an eyebrow as the younger girl—Adora, apparently—picked up a brush and stroked the back of her hand with it. Nova felt a tiny pang of indignation at the fact even a First-year was better at makeup than she was. Of course, she’d never admit it, but just the thought made her roll her eyes at herself. Smiling at Adora, she spoke. “That looks nice,” she commented, leaning to get a closer look before glancing at the girl who had given her the handkerchief.
“If you’re going to use that, be careful. None of that is mine, it’s my mother’s.” She admitted sheepishly before scoffing. Her mother had probably not even noticed it was gone. Along with Nova, most likely. But whatever. Moving on from that thought, she grabbed her pouch back and scoured through it. Her fingers narrowly avoided a different shade of mascara, instead wrapping around something she read was foundation. Picking it up, she dabbed the tiniest bit onto her cheek before grabbing a random brush and swiping at it like she had seen her mother do.
The brush dragged across her cheek, leaving behind… something. She squinted at her reflection. The spot looked rather pale on her skin, so she rubbed it in harder. Looking at it again, she hummed disapprovingly before looking at her other side. Her skin had gotten just a little more tanned over the sun, but apparently that made a huge difference between sun-kissed glow and sickly pale vampire. Why her mother had that, Nova had no idea.
Turning back to the other two girls, she sighed loudly and announced. “Someone help me before I dump it all in the trash and call it a day.” There was definitely a nicer way to say that, so Nova quickly reworded. “Could you two help me… not look like a vampire?” That was better, and Nova gave herself a mental pat on the back.
