Sariel sat alone in a tidy compartment in the very front of the Hogwarts Express. It was quieter here than in the back of the train where the older students who knew more magic reigned supreme and she could give some thought to what life would be like at her new school in relative peace. She wasn't shy by any means, but she had always been the kind to give thought where it was due. What sort of world would be waiting for her the minute the train pulled into the station? In some ways she knew. The study of magic wasn't entirely foreign to her, given her mum was a witch had studied at Hogwarts herself. Still, she found herself wondering what it would be like since she had attended nothing but a muggle elementary school until the day her letter arrived from the headmaster of Hogwarts. Would she fit in as well as she had in Edinburgh? There was only one way to find out and she was determined to make everything she could of her first years.

Setting her trepidation aside, she stared out the window at the brilliant day as her heels bounced against the baseboard of the compartment bench in time with the thrumming engine just beyond her train car. Green fields of grass lit by the golden sun rolled past and she smiled to herself. This would be a good year.

It wasn't until another sound joined the engines and her own feet thumping that she perked up, glancing at the compartment door.

Thunk Thunk Thunk

Sounds of plastic colliding with wood filled the empty corridor as a grumbling and slightly frustrated Louis tried his best to haul a suitcase as big as he was through the narrow corridors, both tiny hands wrapped around the handle as he put his entire body into the effort of pulling his school supplies along.

The thunks came from the unwieldy and unbalanced suitcase colliding with the wooden panelling, small juttings of the train and the doors to the cabins, prompting some of the children that had already found a compartment for themselves to look out and see him struggling, which in turn set his ears aflame in embarrassment.

Eventually, he managed to go up on his tiptoes to peer into a room to see that only one other person was in it, even if it was an icky girl. Reaching one tiny hand up, dwarfed as it was in the robe he had insisted on putting on the moment he bought it from diagonal alley, he raps against the glass as a way of knocking, before sliding the door open as quickly as he could and dragging himself in, just as he trips and ends up on the floor of the cabin, pinned under the weight of his suitcase.

“H-Hi!” He smiles up at the girl, waving. “Can I sit here?”

With every heavy thunk from the hallway, it was obvious the sound was growing closer until a boy hardly taller than the window at the compartment door appeared carrying a suit case. Well, more like it was dragging him considering the amount of struggling he was doing simply to fanagle his way through the door. Sariel watched as his effort was brought to a halt by inertia and gravity combined, resulting in a hard flop into the floor by her stocking clad feet. Glancing down at him her green eyes met his, framed by short black hair, haphazardly trapped in a low pony tail. "I suppose so. I'm not sure you can get out now that you're in now anyways." Giggling slightly at the strange boy hardly bigger than her own suitcase, she slid to her feet and pushed the suit case off of him so he could get up. Whatever he had in his case was horribly heavy. Had he packed an entire collection of rocks or something? She wasn't even going to try to lift that into the overhead bin. Instead, she propped it up and offered a ring decorated hand out to the boy to help him up. "Sariel Monroe."

The moment the suitcase stopped pressing on his stomach Louis gratefully took in a breath of air, smiling up at the girl as she propped it up for him. Sitting up, he happily accepts her hand and stands, even f he was a but confused as to why she had rings on. Was she married?

“Good to meet you Sariel!” He grins at her, calling on what his dad had told him about making friends. Hauling himself up on the other side of the room he points a thumb towards his chest. “My name’s Louis! Louis Fairbanks.” He puffs up at this, smiling proudly, before a small fry from a neighbouring apartment distracted him momentarily.

“So, do you know much magic?” He asks after looking back towards Sariel, blowing his brown hair out of his eyes with a small puff of air. It would be cool to have a magic friend. He had always wanted one, but the ones he got turned out to be imaginary. Oh... he hoped this wasn’t a dream. His last ‘magic’ friend had turned out to be quite literally magic, as in imaginary, and he remembered crying for a while after he found that out. Sariel seemed nice though! She even helped him up! And wasn’t glowing at all so that was a good sign!

He took her hand and hauled himself up, hopping into the seat across from her. His palm had been sweaty and the feeling was gross. Why was he so sweaty? And then he introduced himself followed by a statement that pretty much summed up why he was looking so amazed. No half blood or otherwise would really talk like that even if the were excited. Which she was in the extreme. He was definitely a muggle born. She scrubbed her hand to get rid of the sweaty feeling on the velvety cushioned bench beside her as she took her seat across from him with a small hop. "I know some, but only what my mum does. She's a Herbologist," she replied with a proud smile, "I like it so I might do the same thing when I get older, but there are tons of things to learn before then. Maybe I'll change my mind." Her feet dangled just a few inches from the floor as she waggled them back and forth. "What about you?" She already knew the answer to the question really, but she wasn't going to call him out on it. That would just be plain mean to him and she wanted to be nice.

His eyes widen in excitement as she spoke. He didn’t really know what a herbologist was, but herb meant plant right? So was her mother a gardener? A *magic* gardener? That was so cool! A small giggle escapes him at the thought, even as he focused upon what she was asking him. What was he interested in...? Well, there were so *many*! He’d already read as much of the spell book as he could in the short time that he had.

“Well, there is one I kinda wanna do.” He says half teasingly, smiling as he pulls out his wand. It’s slight golden sheen shining dully in the light as he held up the rather thick wand. “The nice old man at the wand store, Mr. Ollivander, said my wand is supposed to be good at healing spells! My dad’s a nurse, which is the coolest thing *ever*! So I wanna be a magic nurse, and even have he wand to do it.” He smiles broadly at her, almost blinding in its cheeriness.

Kicking his feet, hells banging against the wooden panelling behind him, he glances out of the window. The fancy invisible station was long gone, replaced instead by rolling farmland. “Oooh! I know this place!” He remarks, instantly distracted. His family had come through here before as they went camping, and it both excited and scared him that they had been so close to the magical part of Britain.

"You should do it if that's what you want," Sariel replied with a smile, "I think you would make a good nurse." She was only a little familiar with muggle nurses, mostly because when she broke her arm and her father panicked, he hauled her to the emergency room of the local muggle hospital to have it casted, much to her mothers dismay. When he mentioned knowing the place out in the country side which was whizzing past, she tilted her head to look out the window to the expanse of green dotted by the occasional house or barn. "It's nothing like home," she said, "I like it though. There's plenty of space to go walking."

About that time, a sweet but wavering voice met their ears along with rattling of a cart. An elderly woman with frizzy white hair and a striped apron tied over her from poked her head into the compartment pushing before her an entire selection of sweets. "Anything from the trolly, dears?" Sariel's face lit up as she slid off the bench and began rummaging through her bag. "Yes, please! Hold on...oh where are you..." Her mother had given her some spending money. A galleon along with a few sickles for the trip. Dancing on her heels, she reached further into bag, much further than the dimensions of the bag should have allowed naturally, and then grinned when her fingers wrapped around her money. "Aha." With pride, she presented the trolly keeper with a silver sickle. "Can I have a chocolate frog, please?" A quick exchange was made and Sariel plopped back down on her seat as the woman turned to Louis. "Anything for you, love?"

“U-um...” Louis’ eyes widened in a bit of panic as he looked towards his suitcase with dread. The large and kind of clunky coins had all been out in there as well, and he hung his head sadly as he shook it slowly. “Sorry... none for me. I don’t have the money, anyway.” He smiles up at the old lady, who returns it with the gentle smile of someone who’s seen the same situation thousands of times but still finds it at least a little adorable, before she moves on. The trolley could be heard even as she went three more compartments down, the squeak of the wheels sharp and piercing.

“Oh!” Louis says as he snaps out of where he had been staring forlornly towards where the trolley lady had been. “If you don’t collect them, can I have your card? I’ve been looking all over for a Newt Scamander.” He smiles broadly at her, pulling out of his pockets three purple cards, showing Harry Potter, Mad-Eye Moody and Cornelius Fudge, the latter of which was cowering from heated glares coming from the two.

Louis chucked at the sight. It was so cool to see moving pictures! It was like watching a movie, only the characters talked back to you! Well... apparently they did. All these ones had done was ‘Hmm’, ‘Ahh’ and ‘Eek’, which wasn’t terribly exciting unfortunately. He had heard the ones at Hogwarts did though! Speaking of... “Oh, and why house do you want to be sorted in? Gryffindor seems fun, and Harry Potter went there!”

It is not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves.
Aravis hummed her favorite song, Castle of Glass, as she walked down the corridors of the train looking for a spot to sit down. She dragged a rather large black designer suitcase behind her as she walked down the halls looking for a compartment. When she found one she didn't even bother to ask if she could sit there. She walked in ignoring both the girl and the boy in the compartment, practically throwing the heavy suitcase onto a rack before taking a seat and smiling at the two.

"I apologize for not asking to sit with you, I'm not a fan of crowded corridors you see. I'm Aravis Escanora. Who might you be?" She asked with a smile. If either of them had any clue of famous wizarding families they would know she was one of the highest, and surely wouldn't say anything that they would regret. But then again, not everyone read the headlines, not everyone knew about this world, and not everyone had heard of her.

She decided to keep that in mind before she barged into a compartment next time. Normally she wouldn't have been so intrusive, but seats were seats and if you move it you lose it, and she had no plans of loosing it. She had two chocolate frogs cases in her hand, neither opened. She notices that the other girl had one as well, while the boy didn't.

Aravis looked down at the extra unopened sweet case before looking over to the boy once again. "Would you like one?" She asked him holding the case to him before noticing the cards he had. "You can have my card as well, I never end up keeping them." The white haired girl said with a simple smile, her blue eyes shinning with happiness.

I will take what is mine with fire and blood.

Sariel started to get up when she saw the longing look in Louis' eyes at the treat cart retreating down the hallway. Whether he didn't have money, or was just unsure of how to deal with it, she didn't know but she couldn't in good conscious sit there and eat chocolate in front of him like that. "Hang on," she said to him as her buckled shoes hit the floor once more. She started toward the compartment door to follow the trolly when someone came busting in the door, blustering past her without so much as a 'hello' or 'pardon me' and tossed her fancy (VERY FANCY) bag inside and settling on to a seat.

Unable to get through the door, Sariel backed up some and stared at the girl. She was dressed in no less than the best and well maintained with flowing silver hair. What was more, was that she was obviously older. Apologizing for not asking to sit? That seemed pretty backward. In Sariel's mind, those problems were usually solved in the manners department (not necessarily adventures) by actually asking rather than simply apologizing afterward. Then the girl explained her name and Sariel's eyes sparked in recognition. The girl might as well have been a princess.

When Avaris offered Louis the chocolate frogs in her hands with perfectly manicured nails, Sariel suddenly became very conscious of the half flaked blue polish on her own and slid her hands behind her back slowly before sitting down. Louis grinned up at the second year girl with star-lit eyes at the presented treat and at that, and at that Sariel let it go. "You're one of the Escanora's," she replied, perking up a bit. She wasn't going to kowtow just because this girl was one of the more famous pureblood families. Bolstering herself, she met Avaris in the eyes with a smile and good-natured giggle. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Sariel Monroe. You could always ask to sit with us, it's probably less work than apologizing after the fact." While she spoke, she unwrapped the chocolate frog and let it escape into the room before handing the card off to Louis for his collection. "Here, it's Hermione Granger. She's a good one."
