Hello! This is an open thread. Everyone and anyone is welcomed to join and I would love it if you do.
It was not an oft occasion that Archer Theodore Duncan laid his hands on a cup of tea. He would prefer coffee, for its sudden rush to the head and bitterness to the stomach, never iced, always dark, without a dash of sugar, honey, or milk for that matter. He drank it almost every morning and was, perhaps addicted to it. Still, no regrets. Tea was usually set aside for occasions where he had to have it, especially at one of the pureblood gatherings his family attended for no obvious reason. Usually they were too sweet, the sugar often overriding the pleasant charge of caffeine and the tea’s own taste. Maman would say that “tea should be bitter as wormwood and sharp as a double-edged sword”. When asked where she had heard such an expression, she simply conceded with a shake of the head, “I don’t know, I must have read it somewhere, right?” Archer had never came into contact with either, nor had he never seen the quote, despite the myriad of books he had read, but he did understand the frustration.

Still, for some reason he called for a cup to be made, almost as if there was a tugging in his chest cavity that persuaded Archer to do so. Never having been fond of tea bags, he simply told the house elves to keep the leaves inside the cup and boil it. He was told black tea tasted best, by various people whose level of trustworthiness he was yet to examine, and indeed decided to try such a type. The wait was short, magic always there the speed up the process. He nodded in the direction of the house elf who had brought the cup into his hands and said a quick word of thanks. Pulling out one of his favourite (though somewhat cryptic) books, Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus, by a woman he would come to recognise as a literary genius, Mary Shelley. Archer stared into the tea cup in thought, wondering why he had even called it to be made in the first place. It would be a shame to waste it now, but for some reason, every cell in his body called for him to throw it out, yet Archer suppressed such a feeling. There was nothing malicious about a cup of tea… was there? The imagination was too often a curse.

Archer took a sip. It threatened to burn his throat, but the heat was eventually suppressed. He fanned his fingers over the cup and rising steam, in an attempt to cool it. After plowing through a few pages, he decided to take another sip, lest it became too cool to properly enjoy. One sip followed by another, followed by another… It was enjoyable enough, he supposed, still not as preferable as coffee, but a fine enough replacement when made correctly, in this case, without the addition of sugar, honey, milk, or whatever tea drinkers put into their cups. After a few more pages of the monster explaining his own endeavours to Frankenstein, and a few more sips, the tea cup was drained, much quicker than Archer had expected. Setting the cup down, Archer stared into the distance, trying to envision the scene that had just played out in the novel, not for a second looking down into his cup, expecting a stray house elf to take it back into the kitchen for washing. Snow flashed in front of his vision, a hideously humanoid monster and his creator. He blinked, and they disappeared, simply fruits of the imagination and nothing more.

Shaking his head, at both himself and the fact that no house elf had taken his cup away, Archer glanced down slightly, ready to send it back to the kitchen himself. He paused, sensing a rough, vague shape in the tea leaves. He had read books from the Hogwarts library or perhaps from his parents’ collection at home on divination. Tea leaves were simple enough to read, especially when they formed shapes reminiscent of the factors they resemble. Archer picked up the cup for a closer look, adjusting it so the shape fell under the light. The formation was not as obvious as it could have been, or Archer might have wished it to be, but when he finally made it out, all he could utter was, ‘Merlin,’ and let out a sharp, most certainly unsophisticated gasp. It had never seemed more obvious than now, and now he was beginning to regret his decision to indulge with tea. It was a hooded figure who possessed a ghastly smile and a scythe. It was a figure who always watched over every person at their backs and played, most literally, with their lives, toying each and every living being into their deaths. He was hardly a good omen.

In horror, Archer dropped the cup onto the stone ground. His eyes flitted around the room, and he stared once more at the tea leaves, now scattered and illegible, forming no distinct shape. There was no redemption, the formation he had seen was final. Archer blanched, his eyes widening, his mouth moving on its own, forming words he did not have time to register even for himself. Glancing around the room in desperation, he wanted some signal from the universe that this was only his imagination. Of course it wasn’t.

The Grim Reaper. He was here.

Note: thank you for the banner Peri and prof Clarimont for tips on foreshadowing! Also apologies for not adding the date. Probably around date of post? Idk. If you have questions regarding if our characters have met already just owling me would be simpler.

Observing and rapidly approaching @Archer Duncan
Viva was in a cheerful mood this morning, for some reason. She had already woken up late and stubbed her toe on her bedpost, but this hadn't gotten her down. No, Viva was all smiles as she descended the staircase and entered the Great Hall for breakfast. She felt her stomach growl in the most unladylike manner as she stepped towards the Hufflepuff table. Letting out a large yawn, the brunette girl hummed a little to herself, a song she had heard on the muggle radio some time ago. The soft melody could barely be heard over the clamour of the students. Viva smiled. Why she was in such a wonderful mood, she herself wasn't even certain.

She lowered herself into a seat next to some chatty second years, and busily began to fill her plate. Also a lover of fresh coffee with cream and a bit of sugar, Viva poured herself a cup and took a nice long sip, savouring the warmth on her tongue and as it traveled down her throat. She was still smiling. Fidgeting in her seat slightly as she finished her coffee and began to polish off the contents of her plate, Viva looked around at the people around her. The Great Hall was noisy, as usual. Students were eating, chatting, doing some last minute homework, and many other things. Viva stirred her eggs around with her fork. Deciding she wasn't going to finish her breakfast, Viva stood up and slowly began to make her way out of the hall. She didn't want more food, and was planning on heading upstairs to grab her book bag and then going to read in the library. She was rather fond of reading.

Suddenly, she heard a gasp coming from the direction of the Slytherin table. Thinking nothing of it, Viva continued on her way. She froze, however, when she heard the unmistakable sound of a cup smashing to the ground. Whipping her head around to see what, or who, had made the noise, she picked out a boy with dark brown hair and hazel eyes, probably around her own age. Viva blinked. She was startled, and confused. Her mind was immediately filled with questions that needed answers. Who was this fellow? Why had he dropped the cup? Had it been him who had dropped it? Why wasn't anyone doing anything about it? She felt her smile drop as she took in the boy's horrified expression and paper-white face. Oh no, Viva worried for him. Without another thought, she raced toward the Slytherin table and threw her arms around the boy. Obviously, he was upset for some reason, and therefore needed comfort. That was just the kind of person she was.

A beautiful Ravenclaw girl with long brunette haired that was put in a low bun and fair skin walked into the Great Hall, one morning and sat at a empty spot at the Ravenclaw Table. The girl drank a little bit of her pumpkin juice and a bit of toast, as she wasn't that hungry.

Brookline Quinn was her name and she didn't really like eating in the mornings, it wss still when she was waking up. Waking up for her takes a long time. Very long time.

Although she wasn't hungry, Brookline knew she was going to be hungry later, so she took a muffin and drank more pumpkin juice. She knew lessons were going to long and wasn't able to have lunch til noon.

Waiting until lessons was horrible, it felt forever but she Brookline didn't want to walk back and forth from the West Tower to the first floor to go to Defense Against The Dark Arts. How could everyone seem so long? "Grrr, why??" Brookline's thick Welsh accent complained, and she tucked a strand of hair that had fallen from her low bun back into the bun.

Brookline decided to look around the Great Hall as she waited, all the students were dressed in the correct robes, all the teachers were here today, the ghosts seemed very pale as usual, wonderful food could be smelt from a mile away, the beautiful plates shining a perfect golden gold kind of color, the ceiling looked dark with shining stars; Brookline could look there forever and never be bored by it. It was so beautiful, Brookline sweared she could fall in love with it.

Falling in love was a understatement but rather beautiful the stars were, Brookline would always think. The ceiling was bewitched to look like the sky outside of Hogwarts, and from the looks of the ceiling, the sun was still rising.

As Brookline stared at the stars, she heard a gasp and a almighty loud clunk! on the stone floor. She jumped slightly, frightened by the sound, and her wide eyes jerked from the ceiling to the maker of the sound.

The sound located to the Slytherin Table, and Brookline saw a Slytherin boy her age with short dark brown hair and a pale white face while looking in horror at a fallen cup.

Curious, Brookline got up from her chair, pushed it in, and walked over to the boy. "Uh, hello, you alri-" her eyes flew over the tea cup when she stopped about a few feet away from the boy's chair.

The Reaper? How could that be possible? Brookline drove the Reaper out of her mind and calmly repeated herself, "Are you alright?" She looked at the boy with some kind of concern and there some kind of worried in her blue eyes. They didn't have any beautiful flecks in the blue pools, or any blazing, just some unexplained horror that Brookline couldn't stand thinking about but she did. Then Brookline saw a very pretty girl with long brown hair ran up to the boy and embraced him.

Flipping a page of his textbook he took a bite of his scone. As he just couldn’t motivate himself to study yesterday when he should have as someone told him they found a secret passage. They hadn’t but the chance of adventure was to much to say no to - even with the schoolwork he had due.

He browed his eyes in confusion when the boy a few seats down from him requested tea without a tea bag. Even in divination he considered it a messy affair from a drinking perspective. Mostly as he didn’t like the texture of tea leaves when they got in his mouth.

Yet, he said nothing and kept his gaze away from the boy as he continued eating his own breakfast.

Then he heard the gasp and the crashing of the cup on the stone ground besides himself. He blinked unsure what he should do, but as he saw a girls go up and check on the boy he looked at the floor. What could have the boy seen in the tea cup? His curiosity made him want to ask, yet the girls made him stop the words from coming out of his mouth.

Instead he swiveled in his seat and stood looking around. Not seeing anything but scattered tea and broken cup on the ground he went and started picking up the broken pieces of the cup. Yes, a house elf would likely be along to do the same. Still he figured that perhaps less of a reminder of whatever had spurred the boy would help him more than the words he heard the girls say.

Plus, if he was picking up the cup he might overhear what caused the boy's reaction without pushing his way into the situation fully like the girls.

Archer glanced down at his cup, the once exquisite porcelain now in pieces on the cold ground. He was still in shock, though for whatever reason he could not process. Part of him did not understand what the matter was over superstition and over a shape that barely resembled superstition, for that matter, while the other part of him screamed at his body to run and leave the scattered shards and tea leaves - especially the tea leaves - behind. He froze mid-movement, then decided it might have been sensible for him to ring fora house elf to clean up the mess.

Archer was just about to heed to his thought, when he heard hurried footsteps and a sudden pair of arms thrown around his shoulders. He blinked, surprise coursing through his veins as he registered it as an embrace. Smooth, dark hair, slightly wavy, brushed delicately at Archer's neck and back, reaching an intimacy that immediately caused heat to race up his cheeks in embarrassment. 'I appreciate the gesture,' he began after an awkward pause, with the girl simply holding him despite the lack of that necessity, 'but please-?' He was not quite sure what to ask for, "respect my personal space"?, "show some sense of properness and think before you act"?, "reconsider the faux pas of embracing someone, especially if that someone was a stranger"? Archer managed to not let any of those slip out, and instead managed a nod as he gently removed himself from the grip of the girl, turning to face her. He studied her slightly, as he would any other person upon their first acquaintance. She was pretty- though Archer was sure there were much more beneath that one, simple word- with soft wells of bright azure eyes, not unlike sapphires glinting under the sunlight, that made Archer's own linger to find the grey undertones.

However, there were much more pressing matters at hand, and Archer was once more startled when a voice, feminine, yet with a hard, strong edge, despite her tentative question, unfinished as her eyes flitted over the scene, the mess that he had caused, for no, actual, practical reason. He could not even say for certain that tea leaves properly divined. Gathering her words as her eyes flew back from the shattered pieces of the cup, the girl finally said, 'Are you alright?' Her orbs, fiercely blue and full of concern, found their way to Archer's, dark hazel, and perhaps, a chef's salad of bewilderment, worry, dread, and disbelief. Archer stiffened, then sighed, attempting to compose an answer. He had never been much of a liar - in fact, thinking back on it, he did not believe he had ever lied in his twelve years of life, not even to protect the face of his own or others, those could be achieved by evading the truth or reorganising the wording. He gathered his breath, eventually managing, 'I certainly hope I am alright.' He paused at the intensity in the girl's eyes. 'However, I am afraid I cannot say whether I choose to believe what I had seen. If I do, I would definitely not be. If I do not, I shall dismiss this incident and continue my day per normal.' The vague answer was all Archer provided. He did not feel like sharing what he had saw at the moment, for it was, most certainly, his privacy. If only life was as simple as a book, open and awaiting analysation.

He straightened, squaring his shoulders and properly facing both ladies. The latter one had long brunette curls, which he had only just noticed. Neither of them had much more that he could register at the moment, though Archer was sure each of their lives would unfold like a perfect storybook when he became acquainted with them. Both of their faces were a mask of fretful unease as concern shone through their eyes. 'Thank you both,' Archer said finally and swiftly, and was about to elaborate when a sudden smudge of green caught his eye. A fellow Slytherin, with a short dark brown hair, a tie loosely tied on his shirt collar, had made his way to the where Archer and the two girls were standing. Instead of inquiring about the situation, he bent down and started picking up the broken pieces without much hesitation. Despite his own distraught state, Archer could not help but feel worry for his peer - worry which was buried under guilt for not cleaning up his own mess, or at least attempting to ring for a house elf to. 'Young sir, I appreciate your help, but please do take care with the shards. They might cut your fingers.' Archer paused slightly, his eyes flitting over the boy's purposeful positioning, almost as if he intended to eavesdrop. Archer's brows narrowed ever so slightly, but he simply let it slip. 'Allow me to call a house elf instead, if you do not mind,' was all he offered.

Note: this must be a cultural difference, but where I live it is very normal to drink tea without a tea bag, and it doesn't get into the mouth since the leaves sink to the bottom. I also have decided to make the date a Sunday, just so no one hurries too much about getting to classes.

Being embarrassed about @Archer Duncan, being nervous about @Brookline Quinn, and jumping to help @Cornelius Haut.
Viva immediately felt her cheeks flame as she realised the boy clearly did not welcome the embrace, and she withdrew her arms awkwardly. "Sorry," she whispered shamefacedly. She hadn't meant to do it, it just sort of came out. Now she deeply regretted it. Hugging a person you didn't know at all did seem a little forward. Viva stared at the stone floor as she felt the boy's eyes on her. She didn't know what to do, and swallowed awkwardly. Jumping slightly as she heard another voice, her head popped up to see another girl standing there. For some reason, Viva immediately felt nervous in her presence. This girl seemed so sure of herself, so confident. Her voice sounded worried, but also had a fierce undertone that Viva wasn't sure she liked. Blinking, Viva studied the girl. She had long curly hair that shone and fair skin. She was very pretty, in a determined sort of way.

Silently waiting and listening the their conversation, Viva had never felt more awkward and embarrassed. She still felt very concerned about this strange boy, however, and wanted to make sure he was alright. Viva tilted her head, confused about his answer. What had he seen that was so horrible? And... obviously he believed it, whatever it was, because he certainly wasn't acting alright. That much was clear. Viva was a little confused on why the girl would ask such a silly question in the first place, but that was beside the point.

"You're welcome," Viva answered the boy's thanks with a hint of a question. Thank you for what? She hadn't really done much. At least it seemed he was very polite and well-mannered. She suddenly became very aware of a fourth person nearby, a young boy, also looking to be about her age. He seemed to be trying to clean up the pieces, and Viva felt a rush of guilt for not trying to help sooner. She immediately bent down and began to help the boy, giving him a small smile as she knelt on the floor, gingerly picking up a shard of the broken cup. There was a sodden mess of tea leaves scattered on the floor, and Viva frowned. Had the boy seen something in the leaves? What had it been that was so horrible? Her mind was swirling with questions, as usual. When she heard the first boy's warning, her cheeks once again turned pink. Oh, dear. Just as he said to be careful, she let out a quiet gasp of surprise as she felt a sharp sting on her palm. Looking down, she saw that she had accidentally caused a small cut in the center of her petite hand with the shard. Blood was trickling out, and started running through the veins in her palm.

Brookline Quinn was a girl who had alot of concern for someone she didn't know but she didn't like to get personal about, she was sure the other person wouldn't feel to good taking deep talking about concerns to someone they didn't know about. But she didn't like to see someone harmed.

Even though Brookline was a bit dark she was still gentle and kind. Brookline had heard the boy but everything seemed muffled. It was like she was erased from the world, but she was kinda still there, Brookline didn't know what to do about it.

When the dark brown haired boy started speaking directing to Brookline, she sorta had a stifled gasp but looked at the boy's hazelnut eyes to see if he was lying. Thankfully, the boy wasn't.

"I sure hope so too..." Brookline's thick Welsh accent was slow and understandable. Well she sure hoped it was.

"No problem, "Brookline smiled when the boy thanked her and the girl who had embraced the frightened boy. She saw another boy around her age with robes of green, he knelt down and picked up some shards of glass. The dark browned haired boy knelt down quickly and said a few words to the other boy.

Brookline knelt down to the floor, making sure she didn't expose anything since she was in Ravenclaw robes, and gingerly picked a shard of glass as she heard a gasp of surprise. She dropped the shard of glass quickly with her own gasp and looked up. It was the girl.

The girl's hand was bleeding. " Er, are you ok? I hope it doesn't hurt..." Brookline asked, her thick Welsh accent and her great dark blue eyes held concern again.

He carefully picked up the first of the bigger pieces noting that he didn’t see anything special about the tea cup. Though admittedly it was breakfast not a divination practice session where sometimes people got out special cups. His grandmother had a special cup that she occasionally took out at times of uncertainty.

Then he continued picking up a few more of the big pieces with extreme care as his housemate and the girls interacted. An interaction that seemed to have an awkwardness he was happy to not be involved in. Though he found his housemates words a bit of cryptic uncertainty which made him even more curious about what had been seen in the tea cup.

Though, as his housemate hadn’t revealed that it, he held back his curiosity and didn’t ask.

He looked up and noticed one of the girls now helping him and smiled back at her. Though he said nothing as he continued his motions until he heard a gasp. Looking up he noticed the blood on the other girls’ hand as he heard his housemates warning. A warning that one might question if was prophetic or just perfectly timed.

He considered the pieces in his hand and quickly reached over carefully placed them on the table as he grabbed a clean napkin off it. Seeing the blood he squatted again offered the girl (Viva) the napkin as he said “ If you don’t think you have glass in it maybe you should wrap it in this napkin.“

Then he looked up at his housemate and said “Calling a house elf would be best“ as he hoped they could use some house elf magic to deal with it. Though he personally had no experience actually calling house elves so he was happy his housemate was offering to do the calling as well. As his family didn’t have house elves at home and most of his interaction with them in the castle involved them offering something first leaving him clueless on how to actually call them. Though logic would dictate they had names, but like his housemate he had no clue what they were and needed to get better with them.

Archer was glad when the brunette withdrew her arms from around his shoulders, albeit somewhat sheepishly, yet when she started to apologise for what was only a measure out of concern, Archer looked her in her pools of blue, with the occasional specks of grey, his own gold adornments bouncing off in the light, and said simply 'You had noble intentions.' Archer's eyes flitted away on their own accord as she lowered her head to stare at the stone floor, swallowing awkwardly. He was snapped back to attention though, as he heard a stifled gasp from the other girl, Ravenclaw, for simpler reference. However, as their gazes connected, she portrayed nothing but confident, appropriately worried yet with a fierce undertone that had not graced the voice of the Hufflepuff. Her eyes were almost scrutinising, as if trying to detect whether Archer was speaking truth or not, analytical and sharp. Glancing away uncomfortably, he looked back towards her once more as she said in a thick Welsh accent that she hoped the same.

Both of them had taken Archer with the element of surprise, and, unprepared, he could not say the conversation was productive. The discussion was certainly inopportune and would only leave all parties feelings slightly embarrassed, if not already. He could see it had taken on a cumbersome toll for the Hufflepuff girl, standing to the side and simply listening as the Ravenclaw, who seemingly made her uncomfortable, responded to Archer. After a quick exchange of polite language, all of the trio's attention was eventually and inevitably driven to the boy on the ground. The Hufflepuff girl, after realising her peer's action, decided to take the same upon herself, starting the gather the shards of broken porcelain for herself. Yet Archer could tell she was far too hurried, not treating the scatted pieces with enough caution. He was just about to say "careful", when-

'Speak of the Devil,' Archer muttered under his breath. She had let out a gasp, almost as petite as she was, yet far sharper, as she cut the centre of her palm, blood trickling out along the wound. As the Ravenclaw girl knelt down - letting out a gasp herself, for whatever reason Archer could not fathom - and the fellow Slytherin stood up to set down the pieces he had collected and gather a clean napkin, Archer himself scooted over to where the Hufflepuff girl sat, the blood not entirely suppressed, but at least not trickling out and down her palm onto the ground. All the Ravenclaw offered were simply a few words of sympathy, which Archer swiftly deemed useless, while his housemate squat down once more, this time with the napkin in hand and instruct, 'If you don’t think you have glass in it maybe you should wrap it in this napkin.'

'Wait please,' Archer cut in, before the Hufflepuff could take the napkin from the Slytherin. Maman was an adventurer and sometimes took Archer on trips of their own. When he grew of age, she began to trust him to go alone, under the circumstance that he does not wander beyond certain landmarks. However, before any exploration, the most important lesson was first aid: from how to treat simple wounds and rashes to how to signal for help in the most dire emergency when matters could not be solved. Though there was no stray porcelain in the wilderness, sometimes tiny, barely noticeable bits of rock could embed themselves into gloveless hands. Always check for shard before bandaging, for it would simply push the bits further into flesh. Drawing in a deep intake of breath, Archer stated, 'If there indeed is porcelain in the wound, wrapping it would only worsen the predicament.' His eyes connected once more with those of the Hufflepuff's, those beautiful orbs he desperately wanted to linger on, but did not, 'If I may?' He simply said, gesturing to her hand.

If the girl was to accept, which Archer hoped she would, for her own good, the Scottish wizard would cautiously raise her delicate palm to adjust the angles beneath the light, tilting it in one direction, then another, always keeping one eye on the wound as he worked. While doing so, Archer noticed that time enough had passed for a house elf to scamper out from the kitchen and clean the mess away. Nodding his thanks, the lad swiftly returned to the task at hand. When he finally deemed that it was safe, he would give a curt nod, as professional as he could muster, and inform the Hufflepuff while wrapping the napkin around her hand, akin to a bandage, and pressing down gently to suppress blood, 'There are no shards within the wound, which is a positive sign. The wound itself is insignificant and would heal soon on its own. In fact, you should remove the napkin as soon as the blood flow has staunched, for fresh air would be more beneficial for your skin. However, if this is your dominant hand, it might hurt to write or use your wand for the rest of the day. It should scab overnight, though, so there is no need to worry about tomorrow’s lessons.'

@Genevieve Delacourt, @Brookline Quinn, @Cornelius Haut

Note: please keep in mind, the cup is porcelain, not glass, just to keep consistency. Thank you! Also recently got cut by a piece of glass (all fine now :D) so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about lol

Interacting with @Archer Duncan, @Brookline Quinn, and @Cornelius Haut.
Viva let out another small gasp as she knelt on the ground, clutching her right wrist. She felt weak for letting such a little thing hurt her so much, but Merlin, it stung. Viva had always been a more sensitive girl. Her skin was thin and pale, burning easily in the sun and she had many nature allergies. Viva was peculiarly quick to obtain rashes and bruises as well, and when she was injured, it tended to hurt. It was a certain weakness of hers. She vaguely heard the girl's voice, but she wasn't paying too much attention right now. She was startled, and still embarrassed from before. A strand of hair fell into her face, and she didn't bother to push it away.

Suddenly, she heard the other boy's voice, the one who had started picking up the porcelain. Blinking, before she could understand what he was saying, Viva listened as the hazel-eyed boy cut in. Her wrist was still grasped in her left hand, a steady stream of blood blossoming from her palm still. Biting her lip, Viva locked eyes with the hazel-eyed boy. Her head was in a bit of a blur, but she understood he wanted to help her. Hesitantly, she allowed him to take her wounded hand, wincing a bit as he inspected it. Merlin, why did it hurt so much? It was only a tiny little cut! Viva bit her lip again.

She tried to breathe as the boy inspected the offending palm, and couldn't do anything but stare down at it. As he began to wrap the napkin around her hand and press down slightly, Viva let out a small whimper. She couldn't help it, and knew it sounded pathetic. She remembered hearing somewhere about how hands were a very sensitive part of the body, with many nerves, and therefore it often hurt greatly when your hand was accidentally cut by something. Trying to keep her breathing steady, Viva felt tears prick at the back of her eyes. She was acting so pathetic. They probably thought she was so weak and silly. "Thank you," she managed in barely a whisper as the boy explained that the wound wasn't that bad and would likely heal quickly. "Sorry," Viva looked down, not able to meet his eyes or the eyes of the other two children. Now that she had made a fool of herself, she was still worried about the hazel-eyed boy and his reaction to whatever he had seen in the tea leaves. She needed to make sure he was alright. As Viva tried to think of the best way to do that, she stared down at her napkin-wrapped palm and winced again.
