River walked out her first charms class happily, content that she was able to now cast the Mending Charm and Dancing Feet Spell. She felt a little awkward at having to re-break her skeletons spine multiple times as she practiced, a little unnerved at the almost sadistic glee that had been on some of her classmates' faces.

As she walked, she looked down at her messenger bag that contained all of her school materials. It had been charmed with a Feather-light Charm by the maker and barely weighed a thing, despite being filled with books, parchment, quills, inkpots and other such things that she might have found useful at times. Not paying attention, she hadn't realised that someone had stopped walking just in front of her, causing her to walk straight into his back. He turned around as she rubbed her sore nose, a little disgruntled at the impact.

"If you would be so kind, maybe do not stop in the middle of a hallway like a niffler caught in the middle of a stealing something shiny." River attempted to mask the irritation in her voice, burying it under a cold tone, but her sarcastic words belied her true feelings at the situation.

There Anthony was just walking out of charms class, walking while writing in his journal some notes in his Charms Notebook. Notes he could use while working on his Charms homework later that night, while he was alone in his dorm room, sitting by the window peering out to the stary night, and with a warm cup of cocoa at his side. The Autumn season was upon them, and with that the weather was getting much cooler, Anthony had little problem with that as he much preferred the cool Autumn breeze as opposed to the Freezing Snow or the Blazing Sun or the Humid Rain.

He finished his notes and stopped to take out his more personal notebook when suddenly he felt a sudden, BUMP, upon his back as something seemed to run in to him. He turned around, greeted by a fallen an seemingly irritated River, if her sarcastic words and mildly cold tone was anything to say about it. River was a Slytherin girl whom he had met during one of his late-night study sessions in the library.

"Oh man, sorry about that River." He said as he but his books down, hid his journal in a hidden pocket in his robes, and extended an arm out for assistance. "I didn't realize someone else was behind me." He took notice that the Norse Runic Ring she was wearing during their encounter in the library. Instead, there was a simple yet elegant silver snake ring on her middle finger of the opposite hand, however Anthony did take a brief wide-eyed fascination notice at the Silver Pendant she was wearing that was also adorned with the Magical Nordic Runes that the ring adorned.

He stopped staring soon after for fear of being rude again. "It's nice to see you again." He said with a friendly smile...

The boy turned around and River was greeted with startled amber eyes. It was the boy from the library, Anthony Kingsmage, whom she had met only a few days ago. "Oh man, sorry about that River." He hurriedly put his books away and held out a hand the the disgruntled Slytherin girl, helping River stand from where she had fallen to the floor.

She noticed him glance at her hands before staring curiously at the runic necklace that dangled at her collarbones. He hurriedly looked away and gave her an awkward, yet friendly smile,"It's nice to see you again."

River lightly dusted off her robes, ensuring that they hadn't gotten dirty after her unprompted meeting with the passageway floor, before she finally looked at the Ravenclaw, "Oh, Anthony, yes hello. I apologise for my rude words, but yes, it is nice meeting you once more." She really was apologetic for her sarcastic words; she hadn't known it was an acquaintance that she had bumped into. Just as she had for his slightly prejudiced words at the library, River dismissed her earlier irritation at having been knocked down.

"Did you enjoy the Charms lecture?" she asked curiously, having paid more attention to her own practice than glancing around the room to see the others' progress, "It was a bit morbid to be mending spines, even if they were only wooden skeletons, wouldn't you say? Although it certainly made it interesting, especially the rather amusing 'dancing'." There was a clear amusement in her silvery eyes, warming the usual icy-blue colour.

As River accepted his hand, he pulled her right back up to her feet. She quickly dusted off her clothes before greeting him and apologized for her irritated and sarcastic words. She seemed quite authentic with the apology so Anthony accepted it.

Changing the subject, River asked how Anthony liked the Charms class. They had just learned the Mending and Dancing Feet Charms by using each on wooden skeletons. Anthony had quite enjoyed the class and saw the experience fit for the upcoming All Hallows Eve season. However, with Rivers comment on the mild morbidness of the class, Anthony looked upon it a bit differently.

"Now that I think about it, there was a mild morbid feeling to the classroom. Although I've assumed that the atmosphere was to embrace the fall season and the upcoming All Hallows Eve." He said, almost losing himself in his thoughts and pondering this particular perspective. "It is indeed an interesting way to look at things. However, I personally enjoyed the class and feel that I am proficient with the Mending and Dancing Feet Charms."

He remembered their last encounter within the library of Hogwarts. Personally, Anthony didn't think he left on the best of terms. But had assumed they were friends; however he did not feel confident in that assumption. Again, the Norse Runed Pendant caught his eye once more. He had actually done some research about the runes guarding the restricted section in relation to the Norse Runes he had written down from Rivers ring.

The runes on the restricted section were indeed Nordic, meaning that the runes did have similar origin. However, this also meant that this was extremely powerful magic. Perhaps more research would gain him insight on to those particular ones. He knew he might get in trouble as this started to seem like suspicious activity, so he did not want to drag River into any of it. However, perhaps she can teach him about these Nordic runes.

He grabbed his personal journal once more and flipped to the page where he had written down the Nordic Runes from Rivers ring. Anthony couldn't exactly tell if these were the same runes or different ones, so he figured the easiest way to find out was to ask. "Fascinating Necklace River," he said in a curious yet soft tone to try and avoid irritating or even offending River, "Do the runes on them also mean, what was it, Family. Love. And Protection?" He said reading off his journal for the runic translations, "Let me know if these questions are getting annoying, I apologize for them but I can't usually help myself when I really want to learn more about something."He continued, hoping she wouldn't mind teaching him about the runes...

"Now that I think about it, there was a mild morbid feeling to the classroom. Although I've assumed that the atmosphere was to embrace the fall season and the upcoming All Hallows Eve."The Ravenclaw boy took a pause, seemingly lost in thought as he pondered something the pureblood heiress was unaware of. "It is indeed an interesting way to look at things. However, I personally enjoyed the class and feel that I am proficient with the Mending and Dancing Feet Charms."

"Fascinating Necklace River, do the runes on them also mean, what was it, Family. Love. And Protection?" Anthony asked her, reading out of his notebook that River remembered him writing in at their last meeting, "Let me know if these questions are getting annoying, I apologize for them, but I can't usually help myself when I really want to learn more about something."

"I'm not bothered at all," River hummed thoughtfully as she began walking to her next class, which coincidentally was shared with the First Year Raven as well. "I mostly thought it was morbid in the sense that, in order to practice the Mending Charm, we needed to continuously break, mend and re-break our skeleton's spine. I am quite sure I saw one of the Gryffindor boys grinning rather sadistically as he broke his skeleton's spine with more force than was strictly necessary. Other than that, I did like the lecture. But what is 'All Hallows Eve'?" The Slytherin remembered reading about the term before but was still quite confused on what the entire event entailed. There was only so much information she could find in books on the- muggle holiday, was it? - event that occurred on the same day as Vetrnaetr Norse equivalent of Samhain.

"My pendant? They are mostly the same, but some are slightly different. Do you see these ones?" She said, pointing to some of the runes, "They mean 'Success in Your Endeavors' and these," pointing to a different set, "mean 'Courage in the Face of Battle'. My father sent it to me via owlpost as a gift for before we begin our exams. As this is my first year at Hogwarts, he has been a little protective of me and making sure I do well," she rolled her eyes elegantly, a feat she had practiced multiple times in the mirror over the years just so that her etiquette instructor could not scold her for 'unladylike behavior', but there was an obvious fondness in her calm, grey eyes. Anyone could tell how much she cared for her father and his loving antics.

Anthony was relieved to find that River didn't mind his probing of the Nordic Runes, she seemed to be pondering Anthony's question when she started walking down the hall. Anthony followed and River explained that she was thinking the class was morbid because of the constant breaking and mending of the wooden skeletons spines. She explained the Gryffindor boy who had seemed to take joy in breaking the skeletons spine. Honestly Anthony didn't notice as he was so caught up with mastering both Charms, however he could remember hearing the creepy giggling of a student whom he assumed was the same one River was talking about.

She then would go on to ask a particularly interesting question, she asked what was the 'All Hallows Eve' Anthony had mention. This particular question caught him off guard, but before he could respond River continued to explain the runes on her pendant. The runes, instead of translating to single words, translated to phrases such as 'Success in your endeavors' and 'Courage in the face of battle' which interested Anthony greatly.

He jotted down a few notes on that, as well as a couple of theories, and then closed the book and couldn't help but to address her earlier question. "I find it quite interesting you are unfamiliar with 'All Hallows Eve' it's a common event around here." He then thought that perhaps she didn't know because she wasn't from around these parts, this would be the only likely explanation, so he began to explain the event.

"All Hallows Eve can be seen as a muggle-holiday, however they call it Halloween, I don't really understand it but I've heard it involves muggle candy. Anyways, All Hallows Eve is the last day of this month and many people believe it is a day to celebrate the dead." With this thought he briefly had flashbacks of his grandmother, feelings began to swell up be he shoved them back down. "Some people even see it as a dark day where Dark Magic is somehow strengthened significantly, so they fear it more than anything." He then opened his book again and flipped to the page of his personal project, an object that would be most useful on All Hallows Eve. "Me personally, I believe it is a beautiful thing, it is a night where the moon shines it's brightest, the stars align, and fantastically wondrous magical things can happen." He then closed his notebook, and put it back into his robes inner pocket.

"So, if you don't celebrate All Hallows Eve then what do you celebrate that day or night?" He asked, eager and interested in the traditions of her and her culture...

The Luxley heiress listened intently as Anthony explained to her what 'All Hallows Eve' or 'Halloween' was. She was enthralled by his descriptions, having only read vague mentions in her books over the years.

"So, if you don't celebrate All Hallows Eve then what do you celebrate that day or night?" River was startled, yet also a little touched, that he seemed so interested in her family's heritage. "Well," she began, "I'm not too sure about others, as I grew up isolated in my family's estate, on whether or not they celebrate Halloween or All Hallows Eve as you say. Instead, my family celebrates Vetrnaetr, or Winter Nights in English, on the final day of October. I believe it is most similar to the Celtic holiday Samhain. It is meant to be a festival to celebrate the end of the harvesting season and the beginning of the hunting season. It is also around this time that we perform the Álfablót, or Elven Sacrifice, by offering an animal to the elves, Freyja and Odin in return for blessings for the life force of our family."

There was no denying the pride in River's voice as she described to rites and traditions of her family, her ancestors. She wore that pride as openly as the runes on her pendant, as the ones that decorate her jewelry and notebooks. She came from the vikings, from warriors of olde. "In these times, the beginning of winter, I like to offer a small sacrifice to the Norse Goddess of winter, snow, hunting, skiing and mountains, Skaði, as she is said to be the bringer of Winter in my culture. It is usually a rabbit or small deer if I am lucky when hunting in the woods on the outskirts of our estate."

River seemed taken aback by Anthony's question. For a second Anthony thought he may have offended her once more, however that thought evaporated as River began to speak. She talked about the culture and traditions of her and her family, which seemed to Germanic based off of the foreign language she seemed to speak for a few words and the mentions of Odin which Anthony understood was a Norse god of War and some form of Forbidden Knowledge. In fact, Anthony quite related to Odin in terms in their collective thirst for knowledge, even that which is forbidden.

River went on explaining the traditions her and her family have, how they have a grand festival to celebrate the transitions of the harvesting to Hunting seasons. The sacrificing of animals in return for blessings from elves and Norse gods, and the small sacrifice that River makes to the Norse Goddess of Winter, Snow, Hunting, Skiing and Mountains. All of this Anthony found very interesting, and River seemed to be very prideful in telling.

Anthony remembered that they were walking down the halls of Hogwarts and had almost forgotten that his body was naturally moving along with River when he was supposed to be heading to his next class. However, he recognized the halls they were traversing and realized that they were heading towards the Defense Of The Dark Arts Classroom which Anthony happened to have next. "What class do you have next River?" Anthony asked, "I have Defense Of The Dark Arts up next and the classroom is right up ahead." Anthony had lost track of time and didn't want to be late to class.

River looked over at Anthony as he asked her about her next class, very much confused, "We have Defense Against the Dark Arts now, do we not? Slytherin and Ravenclaw have a joint class now. Why else would we be heading to the first floor?" Her voice was questioning, but not accusatory, although she was a little amused that the other first year had forgotten. She turned to face away from the brown-haired boy as they made their way down Hogwarts' infamous moving stairways. "I'm quite intrigued to find out what we'll be learning this time, we went over the spells to create red and green sparks last time so I wonder if we'll be learning about a dark creature this time. I heard from one of the second years that we will perhaps go over imps this time."

She chuckled softly to herself as she thought of the troublesome creatures, "We have a miniature swamp on the edge of the estate grounds back home that house a small group of them. Father absolutely detests the lot of them, he's their favourite target and he's returned home with a face full of swamp mud more than once. Mother adores them though, giggles uncontrollably every time father returns home before casting a quick Scourgify. I don't know how he forgets every time about the charm, but I suspect he does it on purpose." The Norse girl's blue eyes brighten in a mixture of mirth and absolute love towards her family. Her happiness hangs on her words and her lips as they curl into a small but bright grin.

Hearing Rivers words, Anthony breathed a sigh of relief. "Phew, looks like we're heading the right way after all." He said to himself. He had almost forgotten that Slytherin and Ravenclaw had a joint class together. He had always sat in the back of the classroom and was so focussed on the Professors teachings that he hadn't really noticed anything about the students. Noting Rivers mention about what we might learn during this class, one word stood out. Imps. Anthony had an experience with Imps once and it wasn't exactly the fun kind. Suddenly, Anthony found himself saying words he never thought he would say to River - or anyone else for that matter.
"Um.. River. Do you mind if we sit together in class? I was thinking we could compare notes and stuff." He said to the Slytherin girl. These words were not planned anywhere within his mind and sort of came out uncontrollably, like an instinct. He was completely embarrassed and knew that if he took it back then he would probably be seen as rude and lose one of his few friends.
To get his mind off of things he began to think about the duel he had finished the previous day. He was the first one on his team to get knocked out and he was determined to make sure that he would be able to hold his own better.
"Hm...I wonder." He said thinking back to one of his late night studies in his dorm. He had tried getting ahead in his Charms curriculum and was starting to practice the levitation charm. It didn't end to well for him, however it was late and he was tired. "If I could perform this charm then perhaps it may prove useful in a duel." He stopped in the middle of the hallway and put his books down on the floor, he pointed his wand at the stack of books twirled his wand around in figure that he saw in his textbook as the wand movement for the charm and then said aloud "Wingardium LeviosA!"
The textbooks then shot up in the air and then crashed onto the ground, leaving several papers in their wake. "Shoot! Well that didn't work." Anthony said said to himself as he began to pick up his papers. "I probably shouldn't try that again until I actually learn about the spell in Charms class." Anthony looked around the hallway and could see a couple of students walking through the wooden door he recognized as the entrance to the Charms classroom. As anthony grabbed the last of his papers, he looked at River. "Sorry about that mess. Looks like we made it to class." He then began to walk into the classroom...
