A long awaited day for any magical child, the first journey to Hogwarts. It was a day that Jacob had been looking forward ever since he could even remember, the chance to finally use magic. Or well, intentionally and legally use magic. He'd broken a few shelves and china sets, after all, but never intentionally. But the rush he'd gotten from those few instances had been like nothing he'd ever experienced before, and he was keen to replicate them.
As he boarded the train, he was the perfect image of a little pureblooded heir. His robes were ironed, and tailored to fit his body perfectly, his typically unsettled hair was swept back, and maintained for once. He walked down the hall way with his chin held high, and his back straight, maintaining an image of confidence with every step. After all, why wouldn't he be confident? He was where he was meant to be. Amongst his people. Amongst wizard, and witch kind. No danger of him accidentally bumping into a muggle, as there had been in London.
Despite the boys confidence, he kept walking until he eventually found an empty carriage, not wanting to intrude on any others conversations. If someone wanted to talk to him, they'd come to him, not the other way around.
And so, he settled down into an empty compartment, neatly tucking his suitcase above the seats, leaving only a small bag of coins, and his DADA book out of the bags, in case he grew bored, or he wanted to buy snacks.

The day to head to Hogwarts. Hurray. Now, don't get it wrong, Klynn was very much excited to head off and learn magic at the best wizarding school. But the thing that was making him seem bored with it is a combination of his monotone voice and him not thrilled to be engaging with other people. If he had to choose what he would focus on, it would definitely be either charms or Defence Against The Dark Arts. But that was not something he could focus solely on, however much he wanted to.
He entered the train and continued to look for a place to sit, even after the train left the station. You'd think that as a pure-blood, he'd display a bit more confidence when it came to social interactions. But Klynn didn't think that way. He simply saw it as a waste of energy to get into pointless conversations with others. Though, it was nice to know that the school should be big enough for him to stick to the background and avoid attention.
Eventually, Klynn found a cabin which only had one person in it. At least this meant he wouldn't suddenly intrude upon people's conversations. Although, he was surprised to see just who was in the cabin. While it had been some time, he was sure he recognised the person inside the cabin, even if faintly.

Jacob had just about opened his DADA book, beginning to skim over the opening words as he heard the carriage doors slide open once more. The initial look that met Kyle was a stony-faced, if not slightly judgemental look, before it clicked in his mind. It had been a while, long enough to be entirely unrecognisable on first glance, only dawning on Jacob after a few moments, at which point his expression softened slightly, a small smile on his face.
"Jacob Thorley, is that you?" To which he nodded, placing his book down besides him.
"Yeah, it's me. Good to see you, Klynn, been uh.." He paused for a few moments, racking his mind for the last time the two had met. Eventually, he just shrugged, the exact date or occasion having slipped his mind. "Been a while."
"You looking forward to this? I can't wait to get there, and start with some of the classes.. Be amongst only wizards. Few too many muggles in London for my liking, if my father ever took me anywhere, they would be absolutely everywhere.." His voice trailed off, glancing out of the window. It likely wouldn't be too long until they left, which caused Jacob to shift in his seat excitedly, an entirely uncharacteristic manoeuvre from him, as he normally kept a much more composed attitude like he'd been taught from a very young age.

It must have been years since Klynn had seen Jacob, but there was one thing that tipped him off that this was the right person: the incredibly self-assured and confident grin plastered on his face as he read the Defence Against The Dark Arts book. Klynn remembered how the both of them very much wanted to learn that subject, even recalling how Jacob mentioned he would learn them as quickly as possible.
"Yeah, it has been a while. I see you're still very fascinated with DADA, honestly unsurprising."
Klynn couldn't help but have his neutral face lighten ever so slightly at the sight of his old friend, especially seeing as how Jacob was allowing himself to be excited with his situation, completely unlike how he knew him. Yet, there was one thing that Klynn couldn't help but silently sigh at...
"Yeah, despite outward appearances, I am very much excited for this... ... ...
I see you still have a certain view towards muggles"
... and that was the Thorley family's view on non-magic folk, and half-bloods. One that he can't say he agreed with in the slightest. His Uncle was a muggle after all, and his cousin a half-blood. Even though Klynn never really held it against Jacob due to his upbringing, he still couldn't help but feel disappointed that he never really saw any different.

Jacob nodded along as Klynn mentioned his passion for Defence Against the Dark Arts. "Of course, you know my father bought in some of his old co-workers to go through some spells with me.. Reckon I'll be able to try them out once we get to the school." Jacobs voice trailed off, already thinking about how he'd sneak into abandoned class rooms, creating opportunities to practice the spells he'd been taught. "They wouldn't let me actually cast the spell.. Which is dumb, the underaged magic restriction whatstit degree." He scowled at the mention of the ban, failing to remember the decrees true name. He lived in a magical household, how would the ministry even know it was him casting spells? He bet if he hadn't an Auror for a father, he'd be allowed to cast the spells.
"What about you? You ever get around to learning anything?"
Klynns sigh was not lost on Jacob, his grin shrinking into a thin-lipped smile, almost as a rehearsed response to mask any actual thoughts. "Dunno what you mean by 'certain' views. I don't see why I should think much of them, they don't have magic.. It's almost sad. How do they get through life?"
"I dunno though.. Just feel bad for them, I think." He shrugged, truly somewhat conflicted by his own views on the matter. They were taught views after all. But why should he think any different? They didn't have magic, that earnt his pity, and he believed himself right to only want to surround himself by those with magic.

Klynn allowed his smile to grow ever so slightly wider at his friend's enthusiasm for the DADA subject. He could already guess that Jacob would want to be sneaking around to learn these things at school. In fact, Klynn figured that this was one of the few time that Jacob's father being an Auror was an annoyance to Jacob. He couldn't say he had learnt anything advanced himself, however.
"No, I haven't began to learn much myself. Unless you count my natural monotone nature causing others to stay away from me."
Klynn said in a slightly joking manner, though it wouldn't be noticeable to someone who wasn't familiar with his dry tone of voice.
Klynn arched his eyebrows at his friend's response and couldn't help but question, "You are aware that there are going to be muggle-born wizards attending Hogwarts, right?"
Pity? Klynn couldn't say he had ever felt that towards muggles himself. If anything, he was actually rather envious of muggles. They seemed to have a much more simple life than wizards did, and (in his own opinion) had safer lives than that of wizards. When you have people who can cut you open with just a word to make a slash appear on you or cause instant death, muggles had a much smaller chance of being injured due to a mispronunciation of words. That was something Klynn was envious about.
So, pity? That was something that Klynn couldn't help but be confused about

"That's a shame. " He muttered at Kylnns lack of learning opportunities, before cracking a grin at the following joke. "Definitely a skill to avoiding people, don't think I'm half bad at that myself, truth be told." After having been dragged around, and presented at various meetings by his mother, he'd developed somewhat of a talent for spotting the perfect opportunities to sneak away, and find a place where he could be unbothered.
"Oh, yeah." He scowled, evidently having forgotten that fact for the time being. "I don't understand how that's even possible.. Magic just manifesting in none magical bloodlines, it makes no sense." He muttered to himself, before remembering the existence of squibs. How did that even make sense? Both sides of the coin felt equally unnatural to him.
"Do you think mud-muggleborns somehow steal squib magic?" He asked, somewhat stupidly. The logic, however weak it was in reality, somewhat magic sense to the boy. Magic had to come from somewhere after all, and it wasn't likely to just vanish without going somewhere else.
"Must be pretty shocking though, if you think about it." He muttered, glancing out of the window, watching the passing scenery with a grin. Now that the train was moving, the excitement was back in full force. "Imagine living your life for eleven years, no magic what so ever.. Then you have to learn all you can in like.. Two-three months?"

Klynn could only guess that his friend often snuck away from his parents to be alone in any situation, regardless of the setting. Though he did have to raise an eyebrow at his friend's sudden statement regarding muggles and their potential with magic. His confusion continued further as Jacob outright questioned if muggles "stole squib magic".
"Well, muggles do have distant magic ancestors, so I guess it can just be more potent in different generations. But, what do I know? I don't have the energy to see if what I'm saying is right, so I guess we might learn it."
But despite their varying views on blood status, he had to find himself agreeing with Jacob on how shocking it must be for muggles to suddenly learn about the existence of magic. While he didn't miss his friend's slip in his words regarding muggleborns, he paid it little attention as he did correct himself.
So, Klynn decided to change the subject to a more light-hearted subject: his favourite book.
"You know, despite what you think about muggles, they do have some interesting books. My personal favourite: The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. You should give it a read."
Klynn pulled the book out of his bag and offered it to his friend, silently hoping he would give it a go (despite guessing he probably wouldn't).

"Weird how the magic just pops back up, even if the ancestor was like.. Thousands of years ago, or whatever. " He shrugged, leaning back into his seat with a sigh. He wasn't entirely sure if that was something that would be covered in their curriculum, it didn't seem necessary to learn about, as interesting as it could be. "Might go to the library once we are there, might be interesting to try find book about why it comes back. "
"Yeah? " He raised his brow slightly as Klynn mentioned muggle books, intrigued by his friends words. He failed to see what exactly could be so interesting about muggle books, given they were so unaware of so much in the world. Stuff that would actually make for a decent read. Despite this, he did lean forward to take the book from Klynn once it was offered. "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. " He echoed, flipping the book over to skim read the blurb.
"Why do you even have this? I don't think my parents would ever think about buying a muggle book. What even is it? Fantasy book, or what?" He continued to skim over the blurb.

Klynn wasn't very surprised when Jacob said his parents would think of it, that's what they were like. Regardless, he wanted to give his friend a chance to see that muggles can be excellent at what they're passionate about, and that they can be worthy of admiration like Robert Louis Stevenson (the author and Klynn's personal favourite due to this book).
"Well, I have it because it was a gift from my Aunt. After she married my Uncle, she got a job in a muggle school. On my 8th birthday, she gave me this as a gift, and it's been my favourite for years. It's all about a London-based legal practitioner who investigates a series of strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and a murderous criminal named Edward Hyde. It's very interesting; exploring morality, identity and personality. If you want, you can give it a read?"
Klynn hoped his friend would give it a chance, he thought it may help Jacob gain a more personalised view of muggles. Whether it would be a great leap or just a small nudge, for Klynn, any situation where Jacob gains a better understanding for muggles would be a win for him...
But, he guessed it would take more than a few words and a book to change the views you grew up with for 11 years, but it was worth a shot.
