Thoughts: italicsKaitlyn finally had some free time! She spent the previous night working late on homework to finish it all. And just earlier this morning, she completed an extra long yoga session. To help calm herself, yes, but also to help her stretch her muscles. While she could normally feel her muscles stretching and knew that she was pretty flexible, she didn’t want to run the risk of injuring herself. A girl had hurt herself at the muggle dancing school she attended. It looked painful and not fun. It helped that her friend group practiced yoga, as well.
Kaitlyn was moving gracefully through the corridors. It felt like her feet barely touched the ground, as she weaves around students. In no time at all, she arrived at the ballroom. Opening the big doors, she smiled brightly at the empty expanse of room. It looked magnificent. She had a few ball gowns at home that she didn’t pack, not realizing that she could use it at Hogwarts. She made a note to bring a few with her next time she was home. Hopefully she could find plenty of dance partners. She likes the activity.
Unfortunately, there was no music. Kaitlyn was unable to actually play anything due to muggle technology not working at Hogwarts. Regardless, her mind had plenty of songs to help her move. Moving to the center of the room, she began moving gracefully. Leaping, spinning, and twirling. Her movements spoke of her knowledge of dancing.Reducio

ReducioViolet had never been to Hogwarts' ballroom before. The day being Saturday and her being free from all the homework, she finally decided to pay the ever famous room a visit.
She had wore one of her favourite dresses today, wanting to spin and dance around for a bit. She really could do with some physical activity .
Violet stepped out of her common room, ascending the stairs reaching the fourth floor. Her hair gently flowing behind her, due to her swift movement.
As she reached the ballroom, she gently gasped at the site infront of her. The room was majestic, with a splendid diamond studded, chandelier hanging in the middle with a lots of smaller ones made of gold surrounding it. There were no lights on, but the room was flooded with sunlight. Violet had her eyes big open.
It was until she noticed, a girl already in there dancing gracefully even when there was no music playing. She believed, a dancer didn't need music to twirl around, spin around and genuinely have fun dancing. She recognised the girl as Kaitlyn but was not sure if she should disturb the girl or use the room some other time. But she never knew when the next time would come, or if the room would be preoccupied next time or not, so it was better to dance with a friend now.
She gently called Kaitlyn, not wanting to jump scare her, "Hey Kaitlyn, it's me, Violet!"Reducio245 words!

Thoughts: italicsAs Kaitlyn spun, she loved the feeling of the air blowing through her pigtails. It made her feel relaxed and happy. Both of which were sorely needed. While it was only November, Kaitlyn felt as if she had been at the castle for ages. As much as she loved to study and learn, she needed this relaxation time. Afterall, the books weren’t going anywhere. But, life would pass her by, if she did not run with it, when she had the chance. As such, was her desire to be up and dancing.
While Kaitlyn was leaping around, she didn’t notice the door to the ballroom open. Nor of the girl that entered the room and approached her. She was just about to start spinning again, when the girl talked to her. Even though she was surprised, it thankfully didn’t stop her movement. She began to spin, closing her eyes, as she recognized the voice. A bright smile danced on her lips, as she did, so. She extended her arms outward, spinning around where Violet was now standing. She slowed down to finally address her friend.
Kaitlyn opened her eyes. “Hey Violet,” she replied, dreamily. “What brings you here?” She asked, before noticing how Violet was dressed. She smiled brightly. “Cute dress,” she complimented her friend. “Were you planning to dance, as well?” She asked, partially answering her own question. She fully stopped now, to give her friend her upmost attention, like a proper young lady.Reducio

ReducioWhen Violet called out to Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn was a bit surprised but didn't flinch. A bright smile made it's way on Kaitlyn's face which made Violet smile too. It made her feel welcomed as a friend. Kaitlyn made her way, spinning towards her and Violet stood there in wait for her to reach her.
In under a minute, Kaitlyn was infront of Violet.
As Kaitlyn complimented Violet, she blushed slightly and said, "Thankyou! This is one of my favourite dresses. You look really pretty as well and your dance moves are absolutely graceful!"
Kaitlyn asked her about her plans and so Violet answered, "Oh I was so bored sitting in the common room, I had already finished all of my homework. Honestly, I wanted some peace and tranquility which is somehow, not available in my common room on weekends. I could have gone to the library, but I go there literally everyday. Today being a Saturday, I finally decided to visit the ballroom, my mom talked so fondly about. I could do with some exercise too and dancing was the first thing on my mind. When I came here, I did contemplate if I should disturb you or not and go back because you were using the room, but then I realised the room could be occupied the next time I come and chances are that they would be unknown... So, I decided it's better to use the room today since you are a friend!Reducio240 words!

Thoughts: italicsAt Violet’s compliments, Kaitlyn flushed brightly. “Th-thanks. I don’t know why, but I love to dress up when I dance. I have these nice ball gowns at home I’d love to bring here to dance in,” she admitted with a giggle.
As Violet described her intentions, Kaitlyn respectfully stopped dancing and directed her attention squarely at her friend. She liked hanging around Violet, and felt a tinge of sadness when her friend mentioned about not disrupting her. But, she let Violet say her piece. Why interrupt her, anyway? Violet was always so thoughtful and nice. Plus, Violet helped her before with Transfiguration. A welcome help indeed.
Once Kaitlyn waited a few beats after Violet stopped talking, a bright smile formed on her lips. “Violet, whenever I’m dancing, you’re welcome to join me. Don’t ever feel like I wouldn’t want your presence around. You’re my friend,” she said clearly, a far difference to how she acted in Transfiguration the previous month. Clearly, she wasn’t currently upset. “So … what dance were you hoping to do?” She asked with a bright smile. She knew a bunch of individual dances and ones that required partners. She didn’t want to assume anything about Violet’s knowledge, and wanted to remain respectful. They were already friends, but she tried to be consistent.Reducio

Reducio"That's make the two of us, Kaitlyn! I love to dress up while dancing too as you can judge by my outfit, I think. And you should definitely bring your ballgowns next time because I have heard the balls happening around here are absolutely pretty! Violet replied to Kaitlyn when she told her about her desire to dress up.
When Kaitlyn told Violet that she could join the girl anytime, Violet felt more than delighted. She didn't want to assume anything or burden anyone with her friendship, but as Kaitlyn clearly stated they were friends, she felt a weight of formality being taken down from her shoulders. Being called a friend felt nice. She gave the girl infront of her a really bright smile.
As Kaitlyn asked her about which type of dance she wanted to do, Violet realised she hadn't actually given it much thought. Violet had learned all the dance moves herself by seeing other people dance in some pureblood get-togethers and some entertainment shows . So she basically knew how to freestyle and dance with a partner. Basic, but that was how much she could learn herself. So she said, "Honestly I'm not sure if I'm as good as you at dancing. I haven't really learnt it, you know. Just bits and pieces here and there seen at parties and shows. But I can freestyle and dance with a partner fairly well. By the way, I really admire how you dance. Care to teach me some moves?Reducio250 words!

Thoughts: italicsKaitlyn giggled at Violet’s statements about dressing up and nodded. “We’re alike in that regard. I think it feels great to dance around in a pretty dress. I thankfully have a few nice dresses here with me, but yes, I should considering bringing some ball gowns here for next year,” she smiled brightly at Violet’s suggestion. She always tried to look perfect as it was. Being in a cute ball gown would make her feel spectacular. While she wasn’t a fan of heavy make up, she’d apply a very conservative amount to herself. Maybe lip gloss, and painting her fingernails and toenails. Nothing too fancy.
At the compliment, Kaitlyn flushed lightly. She let her friend finish speaking, before responding. She liked using active listening, and liked to see how her friends seemed to like it that she actually listened. Apparently the ettiquete lessons helped her. Once Violet was finished, she eventually responded after a few beats. “Thank you. I think you’ll do a fantastic job. I believe in you, Violet. You’re a smart girl,” she smiled brightly. “I am glad to hear that you know so many,” she responded. Her cheeks tinged pink again, hearing that Violet wanted to learn from her. “Um … okay. If you feel like I’d be a good teacher for that,” she responded.Reducio

ReducioAs Kaitlyn voiced her thoughts that Violet will do a fantastic job, Violet could not help but feel grateful for having such an encouraging friend. She smiled brightly at Kaitlyn.
The girls had started feeling comfortable around each other, after the transfiguration class they had together. Violet couldn't help but notice how much Kaitlyn had improved, at least around her, the girl didn't stutter anymore and overall looked way more confident.
Violet again smiled brightly when Kaitlyn agreed to teach her how to dance. She was excited to learn would have been an understatement. "I believe you will be a good teacher, Kaitlyn especially since you love dancing."
Violet took off her sandals placing it in the corner of room, feeling the floor beneath her with her bare feet.
It was an Indian tradition,to dance barefoot so as to help the body to balance and align, in turn providing comfort and ease.
Her thoughts drifted to the time she yearned to learn an Indian classical dance but was unable to find a guru1 to teach her. Aaliyah had learnt Kathak2 and even Bharatnatyam3, but she did not have the time to teach it to her daughter. Violet had not even seen her practicing lately, her mother being very busy with her work.
Violet stretched herself, getting ready to dance and learn as Kaitlyn positioned herself in the middle of the room. Violet then walked towards her, bowing elegantly as she reached her, showing respect towards her teacher for the day. Although bowing to your teacher was an Indian traditional as well, Violet did so in a more western style, not including the 'namaste'.Reducio275 words!Meaning of the Hindi words used

Thoughts: italicsKaitlyn giggled and nodded. “Thanks for your confidence in me, Violet. You are truly a great friend to have,” she smiled brightly. She never showed anyone how to dance before, so this whole process confused her. But, if her friend thought she could do it, she should at least try. With her gracefulness, she’d have no problem watching where she danced.
A light flush bloomed on her cheeks, as Kaitlyn noticed Violet’s customs. ‘Am I supoosed to follow her customs, as well? I don’t really know them to begin with … and yet, I’d hate to offend her. I normally dance with my sandals on, as I make sure to wear a comfortable pair. But, dancing barefoot won’t be much of a stretch,’ she thought. She copied Violet and removed her sandals, placing them off to the side in the room. A soft giggle escaped her lips as she felt the cool floor under her bare feet.
Kaitlyn’s cheeks flushed further when Violet bowed to her. ‘I’ve never been bowed to before. It feels nice. The most I’ve done was a curtsy. I mainly do those at the end of each class to the professor, before I leave. Etiquette and all. Violet is so thoughtful,’ she thought. She smiled to her friend.
“Ok. I like to start with posture. A straight back, loose limbs,” she started, showing the straightening of her back. “This is how I like to move around, too, in the castle. It gives you a sense of gracefulness,” she explained. “When you move your feet, let them effortlessly glide in your steps. Not sharp movements. Kind of like you’re skating,” she tried to give Violet a picture in her mind. She began to glide around to show Violet.Reducio

ReducioViolet blushed lightly as Kaitlyn told her that she was a great friend to have.
She noticed how Kaitlyn too had removed her sandals placing them on a corner. She smiled brightly at her but then suddenly realised, 'What if Kaitlyn was feeling forced to follow my customs, scared of offending me or something.' Violet really didn't like it, it made her feel uncomfortable. Afterall she only removed her sandals for her own comfort even though it was a cultural custom at her home as well.
She softly called out to Kaitlyn,"Uhh, Kaitlyn you don't really need to remove your sandals, you know. I just did so because I like it better, feeling more connected to the ground and feeling more comfortable. You should wear them back, if you don't feel comfortable. The floor is quite cold, I had rather say."
She smiled back at Kaitlyn after bowing to her. Noticing her flushing cheeks, she decided to give an explanation for her actions. "Well, I'm a half-Indian, like my mom is Indian and we have this custom, to bow to our teachers, whoever they might be, even if for one day or even if younger. It's out of respect and gratitude. And since you are teaching me for today, I bowed to you. It wasn't the perfect Indian bow though, but anyways...", Violet tried to explain.
Kaitlyn started teaching her and it was admirable how she was mentioning every single little detail needed for a graceful dancer . Violet had absolutely no problem with keeping her back straight, she had always done that. If she ever slouched, her parents' would tell her off for that, so she had become pretty much habitual to keeping her back straight. But now being a bit nervous about learning a new thing especially from a newly made friend, her arms had gone stiff. So she tried loosening her arms, looking at Kaitlyn gliding effortlessly. Kaitlyn mentioned skating, and she couldn't help but wonder it was. So she asked, "What is skating?Reducio335 words!
