Siobhan had been wandering again.
She wandered through the castle, around the library, through the great hall, up the Gryffindor tower, down the Ravenclaw tower, and eventually out onto the grounds where she was currently sitting on a log. She had been quite enamoured with a new herbology book that she had poached from the library. This one detailing the history of the plants in the Great Lakes around the world. The copy she held in her hands was quite waterlogged and dogeared, likely from some very enthusiastic reader oh so many years ago.
In fact the Librarian had an odd gleam in her eye when she had checked the book out to Siobhan. Siobhan had immediately stuck her nose between it's pages and begun wandering as she did whenever a new adventure picked up in the midst of a literary work.
Today however, her wandering had been far more sporadic. There was no rhyme to her reason and her feet had simply carried her throughout the castle and around nearly every aspect of the castle. When she finally did look up from her book she was quite shocked to see she was no longer in the castle and was in fact, sitting on a log in the middle of the grounds of Hogwarts. The sun was blissfully in the midday sky and a very gentle breeze accompanied her thoughts, blowing her oaky dark hair into her face. She wished she had a hair tie but alas there wasn't bound to be one within the confines of her bag.
Nevermind all that, Siobhan quickly busied herself back within her book. The magical world was just absolutely fascinating. Such as did you know there was a plant that could allow your body to grow gills and webbed feet and hands to assist in swimming underwater? Well now she knew and infact she was going to look for some. Wouldn't that be neat! She could showcase it to her siblings when they went to the Lough for summer holiday!
But for right now she was going to finish her book. However a log was no place too read and Siobhan soon set her sights on a sturdy Oak tree on the cusp of the entrance to the Forbidden forest. As long as she stayed on the castle side, she wasn't in danger of breaking the rule of no forrest trespassing. Besides, she wasn't quite ready to venture into the throughs of the forest quite yet. Despite her love of the magical creatures that graced the magical world, she was still frieghtened of coming into contact with some of them. Especially a werewolf. She had read quite extensively on them and even though it was clear as midday, she feared coming into contact with one anyway.
The trunk of the oak tree was sturdy, like the arms of an old friend, and it cradled her quite nicely as she settled herself with her robes wrapped around her to protect from the chill that swept through ever few minutes or so. Had it been just a tad warmer, perhaps she would have fallen asleep in the arms of the oak tree. But for now, she was content to read her book and wonder about the underwater plants she had yet to discover.

Amid branches and leaves Victor was busy reading, buried in a transfiguration book that he was struggling to make sense of in any detail. Transfiguration seemed to be his enemy, the complex nature of this particular branch of magic, the drone of the professors voice and the general blandness of the pages all served to distract him from what he was supposed to be learning, it was hard. Bad enough he sometimes overlooked the basic questions of assignments, worse still if he just gave up altogether. His train of though was interrupted by the feeling of another and he glanced up from his book.
From his perch he could look out over the courtyard and see all the other students basking in the sun, chatting among themselves and generally just wandering around the place, it certainly wasn't any of them that had disturbed him, he'd be surprised if they spotted him at all.
He looked below him, and there under the branch he was sitting on was a girl, not the same girl he saw at the late or in the library, this was a different girl. From his vantage point he couldn't see her face, which was obscured by a mass of hair and a tome that was almost as big has her. He stared for a moment, before it became apparent that she was oblivious to his presence and wasn't going to react. She clearly found the book interesting, although he couldn't make out what it was about. Puzzled, he continued to stare, trying to make out her features or something which would give him some hint as to who she was, not that it would do him much good, he didn't know many people as it was.
Still, her being here wouldn't do, someone would have to move and by the way she was sitting it wasn't going to be her so it would have to be him. He closed his book and grabbed a branch to help him stand up, causing a few acorns to fall toward her as they were shaken free. He looked down, rather unwilling to simply jump as that might cause him to land on her, not great for a first time introduction. He climbed down the main limb, not doing much to hide his presence, before hopping over to another lower limb. It was unfortunate timing, his foot slipped has he made the leap and he stumbled, falling from the branches and bouncing off the trunk before landing head over - heels at her feet. Battered and bruised and in something of a daze he groaned in protest of his roughshod landing which put him squarely at the foot of the person he was trying to get away from.

At first she was alerted to a prescnecne by a couple acorns and twigs falling from the tree and onto her head. Unlike Issac Newton however, she did not stop and ponder the existance of physics or gravity but instead she looked around and saw nothing, assuming it was just a squirrel rummaging for something to eat. She turned back to her book when nothing was flat out presented to her.
It wasn't until she heard a gasp that Siobhan was rattled from her book by the sound of a crash, a thud, and the scattering of more acorns. Expecting to perhaps see a squirrel or a bird having fallen out of the tree, there stood instead one of her classmates. Granted she'd never seen him before but she was pretty sure he didn't live in the trees. Despite what her parent's insisted, tree sitting was an amazing expernce. Except for when you fell out of them. As this classmate had just done moments ago.
Siobhan lowered her book tentativly and watched as the boy in front of her groaned from the pain of falling out of the tree. She couldn't tell if his paleness was due to him falling out of the tree or if it was because that was his natural demeanor. It suited him however. His pale skin melding with his hair. She hadn't seen anyone around school like this so she knew she hadn't had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. Nevertheless she could see that he was in pain from falling over the roots of the trees. Getting closer to him, she knelt down close to his face and gently poked his forehead. Just to make sure he was alive.
"Hello there. Are you quite alright? She asked with concern etched in her face. Even if she didn't know him personally, she would be concerned for anyone who fell out of a tree. She herself in her younger days, had taken many a tumble from the branches of trees back in her orchard at home. In fact one of her family nicknames for her was "tumbleweed" for the amount of times reading in the trees when awry. She stood quickly to run back to her bag. She likely had some bandaids and a first aid kit in her bag to help with cuts and scrapes. Never be unprepared as her mother always said.
As she looked for her kit in her bag, she noticed his book had landed on one of the roots and was completely messed up due to landing on the roots. She stopped rummaging through her bag and moved quickly to fix his book. Even if it wasn't his, it could possibly be the library's and she would be a real tumbleweed before she allowed any damage to be done to a book especially one from a library.
"That was quite a tumble you took. Does it hurt anywhere? I could help you too the Hospital Wing?" She asks as she knelt back down to his with her first aid kit.

The sunlight peeked through the branches at odd angles and created strange shapes through the leaves as they fluttered in the breeze. The sight, as pretty as it seemed, was overshadowed by the dull throb in his ribs which didn't seem to go away and it wasn't particularly pleasant to breath. The haze of his fall slowly cleared and his senses began returning, the first of which was of someone prodding him accompanied by a strong Irish accent, which for a moment made him think the whole episode was a dream and he was actually back home.
Alas it wasn't so, instead his eyes drifted toward the source of the musical lilt and the prodding hand which by now had withdrawn and he saw the mass of hair which he had spied from the heavens. Although unlike Gabriel, Michael and the other angels, his landing was far from graceful nor, he hoped, as memorable. The figure moved around, rummaging through her bag for something before returning. If the tree hadn't kicked the air out of him the sight of her certainly did, and he took a short gasp when he saw what he could really only describe as one of the most beautiful girls he'd ever seen.
Deep brown chestnut hair hid pale ivory skin and grey eyes that gazed back down at him with a mixture of concern and curiosity. He stared back, either unable or unwilling to break the trance of which he fell into, a strange smile appearing on his face. Her first aid kit was redundant, as he drank in her features he felt himself getting better. At the slightest movement however, the spell was broken and he hissed in discomfort and irritation. The glow of her presence faded, the sun seemed to darken as he was pulled back to reality and the world seemed suddenly less inviting.
He pulled himself up to a sitting position before turning to her ''Sorry about that'' he said, in all to obvious pain ''Not....not the finest of entries''. He looked over at her, still enamoured by this person who he knew nothing about and he realized that he may well have hit his head on the way down. He could probably make it to the infirmary on his own but, if he was honest, he didn't much care to. ''Are you alright?'' he said looking at her, somewhat concerned he might have landed on her, or dropped something on her ''I didn't mean to scare you, was trying to leave you in peace.''
Stupid boy He could hear his mother in the back of his head. It would seem climbing trees probably wasn't for him.

Siobhan tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as she sat back on her heels as he sat up. He seemed concerned even though he was the one who had fallen out of the tree. He was trying to leave? Oh! She must have disturbed him. Afterall it wasn't her tree she really had no say in wether or not she could sit there. She should have asked if it was ok for her to sit at the edge of the tree. Though it seemed that he was ok, what with him staring at her like she'd announced he'd won the lottery. She tilted her head to answer him as they looked at each other.
"Oh- I'm fine... But you're the one that fell. Are you sure you're alright?" She asked blinking at him in curiosity. She at least wanted to know if there was anything she could do to make up for the fact that she had essentially caused him to want to leave. Was it because she was muggle-born? Did other wizards just know who was and wasn't part of a magical family? If so she clearly wasn't doing well to hide the muggle side of her life.
Afterall here she was trying to fix up injuries with her muggle first aid kit. In slight embarrassment, she hid the kit behind her and twisted her fingers together as she tried to think of an apology for interrupting his reading. Come to think of it she wondered what he was reading. In fact... Where did she put his book? She needed to give it back before she left. She began to look around trying to find where she had put his book.
"I apologize if I interrupted your reading... It's just such a nice day out, and I hadn't realized I'd wandered outside until I did." She said, continuing to look around as she prepared to stand up and leave. There were many other trees, she could go ahead and leave him to his own tree. Because again, it wasn't her tree to lay claim too. She'd have to find her own if she wanted to continue her outdoor literary escapades. No more accidentally wandering without looking where she was going, and checking the above areas of her surroundings. She didn't want to bother anybody else with her weird reading habits.
Out of everything that had happened in the last five or so minutes, she did find it somehwhat comforting to know that someone else had an accent that matched hers. It would definetley help when she couldn't figure out the right word in English. Perhaps he also spoke Irish as well? But it didn't matter, she needed to pack up and leave so that he could read in peace...
At least if he was willing to act as though she hadn't bothered him today.
Siobhan quickly stood up and brushed off her knees from where she was kneeling on them and fixed her hair behind her ear one more time.
"A-anyway, I'll leave you be... There are other trees I can sit at." Siobhan said with a little pink tinge to her cheeks as she quietly gathered her bag and her belongings. She saw his book had been sitting atop her bag and she held it out to him finally noticing what he had been reading.
"Oh! I love this book." Siobhan said with a light in her eyes.

Where was she going? Was she leaving? Oh no no no, that wouldn't do at all. He pulled himself to his feet, with some effort and no small amount of grunting, aware his rib was probably damaged or something to that effect. ''Where are you going?'' he asked, cocking his head to the side slightly ''You don't have to leave...'' He wanted to say more but the words wouldn't come. He swallowed, trying to steady himself ''I don't really understand the book...that's why I was reading it'' It pained him to admit it but he could used a second opinion, although he refused to voice this any further. ''Also...I didn't catch your name, but you're from home? Ireland? Maybe our families know one another? Where are you from?''
He was beginning to stumble over his words, too many rapid fire questions might put her off, he very nearly fell on her and now he was essentially interrogating her, something which probably wouldn't endear her to him at all. He paused, blinked slowly and tried again. ''I'm sorry. My Name is Victor, and I apologise for disturbing you. I was trying to...see who you were when I fell. Not avoid you because I don't like you or anything...'' Good enough, it wasn't the best apology in the world but it was true. He held out his hand, ready to receive a handshake, it seemed as good a place to start albeit a bit formal.
He held her gaze as best he could, although he probably looked a fool, covered in twigs and leaves, his hair and cloak a mess and he likely had acorns down his shirt, tokens won in battle with the tree. ''I would...I think... Maybe you.....'' He stopped, trying to focus his words and avoid making a fool of himself any more than he already had ''I would very much like it if you stayed'' he finally blurted out, a little more forceful than he intended but he did manage to say it. Truth be told he was largely making it up as he went along, but he certainly didn't feel right simply watching her walk away, not after she did try to help him with her first aid kit. Even if it wasn't needed, or perhaps it would be, he didn't know. But he could use the company and who better than her? Maybe she would like to stay as well, he didn't much care for the idea that he was kicking her out from some tree, a tree he only chose because it was away from the other students and easy to climb, maybe that was her reasoning at well. ''May I ask what you were reading?'' His hand still hung in the space between them and he felt a cold sweat beginning to form on his brow, evidence that perhaps he had misjudged this whole situation in it's entirety.

Woah- ok. Siobhan's eyes went wide as the barrage of curious questions where directed at her. Her mind was racing a million miles and hour as she tried to figure out the beginning and end to his questions. She could feel her pulse quicken as she became nervous and took a noticable step backwards to try and separate her mind from the questions in order to figure out how to best answer him. She didn't need to leave? But it was his tree? And she had just invaded it. And he was going to leave first just to give him space.
But it was one particular question that stopped her from freaking out. Asking if she was from "home", Ireland specifically. Yes! She thought she recognized the accent and her eyes went wide as she stepped back up to him in order to affrim what they both suspected.
"I am! Is as baile mé! Cill Áirne i ndáiríre!" She said with such excitement. Her eyes were practically sparkling with happiness that someone shared her homeland, language, and accent. It was so easy to switch back to Irish but she knew that she needed to get used to speaking English. She paused and calmed herself, reorienting her footing as she looked back at her new acquaintance- friend? with her new found marveling at the fact that he seemed to understand her and her language swap.
"It's nice to meet you Victor, my name is Siobhan... This is transfiguration right? Don't you just love the class? I think this is what I imagined when I thought magic wasn't real. But its absolutely amazing!" She spouted off as she began to think about the book that was in both of their hands. She hadn't let go just yet but she figured it would be best to give it back. It was't hers afterall. She felt her face flush again as she realized she was rambling. She tried not to do so but it was hard to not do so when it came to one of her favorite subjects.
Transfiguration both baffled her and excited her and she was happy to see that someone else was enjoying it as much as she did. Her ears perked up to hear him say that she was able to stay at the tree which made her smile pleasantly.
'If you're ok with it. I really enjoy reading in nature, its so much easier than reading in the library. But I still love the library." She explained as she turned to sit back down again. She tried to find the exact spot she had been sitting in when Victor had fallen from the tree but it was slightly difficult seeing as she tried to make room for him to sit next to her. Assuming he wanted to at all.
"I'd ask if you want to climb back into the tree, but I think you're probably too bruised for that? An bhfuil an ceart agam?" She asked with a playful smile as she looked up at him. Hopefully he would be able to sit even with the light bruising he seemed to have.

As expected, the barrage of questions had her on the back foot from the get go, being realistic it was a perfectly valid response. How would anyone feel if they were one day happily reading outside before another person launched themselves from a tree to fall at your feet before engaging in a round of 21 questions? Flustered might be something of an understatement.
Nevertheless her eyes lit up like braziers when he asked if she was from Ireland and to his great delight she answered, in Irish. He didn't think many people would bother with the language since English seemed to be so awfully common both at Hogwarts and elsewhere in the Wizarding world, even that one French student he met briefly spoke it better than most. He smiled at hearing a familiar language, although that wasn't wholly true, he spoke it, but it wasn't 'native' to him. ''Níor shíl mé go raibh Gaeilge ag éinne anseo.'' He said, happy to be able to converse with her and stop her from leaving so soon. But now it was her turn with the rapid fire questions. He had to admit he found her enthusiasm for Transfiguration almost infectious, almost. Personally he detested the class, less because of its use and more because of the man running it. He found the professor...hard, to listen to. It probably wasn't his fault, but it certainly didn't help the cause. ''I...no, it isn't what I expected either but, it isn't easier. I'm not sure I will be great transfiguration wizard it is, hard, to get a good grasp of''.
He noted that they both now held the book together, something she must have noticed at the same time as her cheeks developed a faint red hue to them. ''Maybe you could help me? History is more my strong suit''. He turned back toward the tree, waving his hand at her question on whether he minded her staying ''This isn't my tree, and I have no issues in climbing again. Níl faitíos orm triail a bhaint as arís'' He said, looking over to her again with a wry smile on his face. ''Cúram a bheith páirteach liom?''
Tree or no tree, if there was a pretty girl who wanted to do something with him, even if it was climbing, he was going to give it a go. That's not to say he'd be any good, but he would certainly give it a try. ''Or would you rather stay on the ground? either way, I don't see why we can't sit together, no one claimed this spot''. Maybe, just maybe, she was a bit like him...or maybe she wasn't but either way, he was curious and perhaps a little over eager to find out about her. ''What was the book you were reading?'' He asked as her marched up to the trunk, looking for the place where he started his climb last time.

She watched as he easily traversed the tree once more and smiled happily, discardinger her spot on the ground and instead following him up thr tree, taking to the climb like a bird to flight. It was a wonderful feeling to climb once again and she wondered how high she could get too before the branches no longer held her weight in whole. The tree was massive, easily big enough for both of them to climb together and up to a spot in which they could both sit comfortably and read.
Once she got to a spot she deemed safe enough to unload her bag from her shoulder, she started looking for her own copy of thr Transfiguration textbook. Inside where her annotated notes, and her scribblings about things she found interesting and other stuff that puzzled her. She wasn't sure if others at school knew how she did stuff like this but she wasn't going to stop. This was why she was able to remember nearly everything she read.
"I was reading up on plants that grow in the Great Lake. I'm very interestedin what lives under the depths of the surface but I've heard from some other students that theres so many dangerous things lurking in the water. I'd prefer to just read about them rather than explore at the moment." Siobhan explained as she flipped to a page in her textbook that didn't have any writing in it. "But I would love to help you with Transfiguration. What part of the text were you confused about?" She asked as she looked at him with curiosity swimming in her eyes. He'd asked for her help and she would be happy to offer it to him.
She smiled to herself as she busied herself with the next page and passage of the chapter. This chapter was dealing with the difficulties of Conjuring and the issues of Vanishment. Something that wouldn't be taught until their late years but she couldn't help but get a good headstart on the work. She'd rather be knowledgable then unprepared.
From the climb, her hair was now more susceptible to the wind. She found it billowing and blowing every which way as a defiance to her having climbed all the way up the tree. As she sat trying to fix her hair and organize her belongings, she looked out amongst the grounds of Hogwarts and noticed how beautiful everything looked from up top of the tree. Truthfully they weren't that high up but Siobhan felt on top of the world. This was where she belonged. In nature, in a tree, in her element.
She turned to face Victor who was sitting next to her on the same branch looking at his own book. Unlike her own, it seemed to be in pristine condition and not a scratch or scuff marred it from it's original state. It almost, if at all, made her feel inadequate about her own copu with her muggle notation form, and pen markings litereating nearly every passage or excerpt from the book.
Well at least she tried to face him and give him her undivided attention. However, her hair was proving to be quite difficult to manage as it was starting to get everywhere. She wasn't sure if she had a hair tie or if it was going to just be a persistant problem.

They climbed, His rib giving him some grief but by the time it started playing up they were too far up for him to simply give up and go back, he gritted his teeth and carried on. Unlike him, she moved as though she was born in a tree and they way she moved from limb to limb remined him of the Forest elves from myth and legend or the tree nymphs from the Greek stories his father read to him. It was enchanting, but he was wary to move slower, from this height, he would almost certainly break something if he fell. Higher they climbed, surpassing the branch that he took a tumble from on the way up until they reached a suitable spot that over looked the forest and the courtyard both. It was quite the spectacular sight, the top of the tree only a few more meters above them, the towers of the castle, not visible from the ground, now peaked their tops over the roof of the building in front of them. Siobhan sat while he looked back toward the forest and the lake beyond, great shining water that spread for miles, and held many things beneath its waters, things he elected not to think about for the time being.
Victor sat against the trunk of the tree with this nose buried in the book of transfiguration he carried from the ground, finding where he left off he found himself interrupted at intervals from her hair occasionally lashing at this face as it danced in the wind. He looked over to her, noting her book and how detailed it was in annotations, he marvelled for a moment at the picture perfect sight of an Irish lass sitting in a tree far removed from civilisation, there was something oddly 'right' about it, as though some people were 'supposed' to be in certain places. He smiled as she tried to deal with her hair, the wind making more work that was necessary. He closed his book and set it aside and turned to her
''Ar mhaith leat dom do chuid gruaige a braid?''
It was a serious question, although one he expected to be rejected, not many girls were comfortable with that sort of thing, but he knew how, he'd done his younger sisters hair many times. Plus, at least so he reasoned, it would be a fairly good way of her reading and talking while keeping her hands free and not having to fight the wind all at the same time. Although, it probably came across as a very bizarre offer.
Still, he held her gaze and his smile never faded as he waited for her response.
She could always say no...
