Does closing your eyes make time go by faster? maybe not. Kaito opened his eyes again as the light slowly flooded into his vision. He watched as the professor did the wand movement again for the third time. He slumped in his desk, his arms shielding his head as he lowered his head onto the wooden surface of the table. The lesson only started fifteen minutes ago and Kaito was already bored. Kaito was an impatient boy and minutes felt like hours. He lost interest within the first five minutes. To be honest, Kaito couldn't wait to escape out of the classroom. He knew what was next, lessons would end already. He could go back to the Gryffindor tower and huddle up in his bed.
However, the professor suddenly stood up and raised his voice, announcing that they would get into pairs and read from the textbook and try the motions with their wands. Kaito glanced at his wand which was lying near him. aspen wood and unicorn hair. that was what the guy at the wand store said. That's what's in his wand. He looked up to see the students all clamouring around, looking for partners. Joyful chatters rose in the air as they settled with each other. Kaito sighed, closing his eyes. There was a reason why he sat as far away from everybody else.. but it could also be lonely.

————————————————————Seated at her desk, the Ravenclaw girl immersed herself in Charms class, her gaze fixed intently on her professor. Jam’s eyes were narrowed in concentration as she observed every flick and swish of the professor's wand, committing each precise movement to memory. A subtle nod of understanding accompanied the professor's explanations as the brunette fiddled with her quill, hungry for more knowledge.
Jam pursed her lips and glanced furtively around the classroom when her professor instructed the class to get into pairs. The girl was quite unfamiliar with the fellow classmates of her Charms class, so it was rather daunting to find a partner among the tapestry of strangers. She observed as one by one, her classmates formed duos across the room. The subtle hum of conversation surrounded her and she sucked in a shaky breath, trying to locate someone, anyone, who didn’t already seem to have a partner.
Eyes landing on a young boy in the back corner, Jam had found her target. The girl didn’t know anything about him, yet she had noticed he seemed a little lonely. Jam leapt from her seat and jogged a tiny bit to the dark-haired boy. She came to a halt when she reached the front of his desk and placed her palms on it, leaning against it. “Heyoo! Need a partner?” Jam asked with a grin reaching her eyes.

Kaito watched through the sea of students as they settled into their desks, chatting to one another quietly. Then a girl detached herself from the crowd and made her way over to him. He tensed up, as he watched her approach him with a smile on her face. She had ivory skin and silky brown hair that wove down to her back, curling slightly. A set of glasses sat on her nose. Her almond doe eyes were widened and her lips stretched into a smile as she placed her hands on his desk, leaning on the desk as she spoke to Kaito. Her voice was soft and sweet. Kaito was surprised as she spoke but nodded as she asked if he needed a partner. Kaito pulled the chair next to him out for her before grabbing his textbook with a sigh.
He hoped this girl wasn't like other people, trying to make a conversation with him. He would just answer with yes or no, nothing more. He just wanted to work quietly. He opened his textbook and flipped to the page that was written on the blackboard. He studied the array of different wand motions listed around the page before he turned to the girl with a questioning look. "Which one do you want to start with?" he asked, turning to her. She seemed like the type of person who would be very sweet to people, hopefully he wouldn't have a problem with her.

————————————————————Jam felt a little anxious at the moment, feeling a sort of hostility in her new partner as he sighed. “Well g’day Officer Krupke,” she mumbled under her breath, being super sure he could not hear her. She took the seat pulled out by the mysterious boy, thinking it was quite nice of him despite his cold demeanour. A soft hum of thought escaped the girl’s lips, thinking about his question. Drumming on her open textbook lightly with two fingers, she replied, “Well, I think it would be more organised to start from the first spell and slowly make our way to the end?” Jam nodded to herself in confirmation, as if she was doubting her own judgement before.
The Ravenclaw girl tried not to make her anxiety too noticeable, since she could sense the guardedness of her partner beside her. She figured that showing any sign of blatant awkwardness would definitely not lead to a friendship Rick Blaine and Michael Curtiz style. Still, Jam couldn’t resist eyeing the boy from the side, studying him as if a play-by-play of becoming friends with him was written in his eyes. She turned her attention back to her textbook, reading through the very first spell and its detailed instructions silently. Once she was done, she turned to the Gryffindor next to her, asking, “Well, do you want to try the spell first?”

Kaito felt guilty as he saw the expression on the girl's face fall. He watched as she sat down in the chair next to him. She seemed to be cautious around him. Was he that scary? He blew hair out of his eyes before blinking again, focusing on the textbook. A small hum escaped the girl's mouth as she studied the page with him. His eyes flicked to her for a second before focusing on the textbook again. As she suggested that they start from the first spell, he nodded. "Okay." He grabbed his wand from the table, focusing on the tip of it as he waved it around, playing with it. He raised his eyes to see the other pairs, all already ahead, chatting and laughing. He glanced at the girl again. He didn't really know how to make a conversation. He looked away, focusing on his wand.
He could feel the anxiousness of the girl next to him, the way she hesitated, the way she kept glancing at him. He squirmed under her gaze but tried not to show it. She didn't seem to be like those people who ignore him completely as soon as they realise that he's not talkative. He nodded mutely as she suggested that he start the first spell. He looked at the first spell. Accio. He heard of this spell before. He scanned the room for something to summon, his eyes landing on a ball of scrunched up parchment on the floor. He narrowed his eyes as he focused on the ball, pointing his wand to the paper ball, his eyes flicking to the book quickly before turned back to the paper ball. "Accio paperball." he flicked the wand to him. It didn't come. He frowned. Was he doing it wrong?

————————————————————Jam tried to stifle a giggle as she watched the boy beside her attempt the spell. It definitely did not come out in a mean way, it was more playful, while the Gryffindor’s frown made her feel a little sympathetic. The girl hesitated a little, trying hard not to stutter as she tried giving her friend some helpful directions of her own.
“Try putting emphasis on the second syllable instead of the first, and point your wand directly at the parchment - like this.” The Ravenclaw began a demonstration on another paper ball just a few inches away from the one her partner was targeting. “Accio paper ball,” She said clearly. A string of light was sent out from her wand, wrapping itself around the paper ball like a lasso, and pulling it towards her in one swift move.
The girl helped position the dark-haired boy’s arm so that it was aligned with the original paper ball. “Here,” she said softly as soon as she was satisfied with the wand’s position, “Now you try!” Jam gave a reassuring yet encouraging nod at her partner, hoping it would give him a little bit of luck and confidence to pull off the spell.
She could feel her awkwardness melt away, maybe from her humour of the situation beforehand. The boy was definitely not as cold-hearted and hard-shelled as he seemed, but rather misunderstood. Jam was quite conflicted about whether to try and talk to him or not, but chose to put that aside for another meeting. This time, she was going to focus completely on the spell her partner was going to reattempt, trying to transfer some of her concentration to him somehow.

Kaito was usually defensive when he did something wrong, and he would storm off if someone corrected him, but this time he didn't. Instead, he let the girl help him. At first she giggled, he turned to her quickly, narrowing his eyes before stopping, realising he could hurt her feelings. She explained that he had to emphasise his words. He frowned, confused. She grabbed her wand, pointing her wand at an0ther paper ball, saying the spell. The paper ball zipped over to her. He looked with awe, so did the other classmates, who turned around to look at her before returning to their work.
Kaito tensed up as the girl held his arm, positioning it towards the paper. He wasn't used to people touching him. He relaxed as she let go, then she said that the position was ready. She gave him an encouraging nod and he smiled slightly, before focusing on the paper ball. "Accio paper ball." This time, he followed her instructions and said it clearly. The paper ball flew into his hands and he caught it, a bit surprised at how fast the paper ball reached him. He smiled as he looked at the paper ball in his hands. "Thank you." he said, turning to her, bowing his head slightly. He blinked anxiously. what would he say now? "um.. why don't we continue with the textbook... uh..." He realised that he didn't even know her name yet. "I'm Kaito by the way." he introduced himself, hoping to break the ice between the two.

————————————————————Upon Kaito’s successful reattempt at the spell, Jam clapped her hands together quickly in excitement. “You did it!!” The girl exclaimed in between chunks of laughter. “And you’re welcome!” Yet another muggle movie quote popped into her head. By George, I think he’s got it Jam thought as she smiled to herself. God, it would make a seriously funny reference if anyone in the room knew where it was from
Jam pursed her lips slightly and nodded her head, reading through the next section of the textbook. The next spell was one that she was particularly interested in. “If you don’t mind, I’d like to go first this time,” the girl quickly told her partner. Before he could respond, Jam placed the paper ball in her hand in front of her and eagerly waved her wand in the proper motion. “Wingardium leviosa!”
The paper ball levitated off, hovering in the air above the desk that it formerly sat on. Jam giggled as she gently poked the ball, knocking it slightly before returning to its original position. It was a success, just as she had expected.
The girl hoped that her going first gave some sort of clarity to her Gryffindor partner. She turned to him with a grin still plastered on her face. “Well? Impressed?” She asked with a touch of mischief in her voice. “Now you try!” The Ravenclaw girl gestured to the paper ball in Kaito’s hand from the previous spell, egging him on to try the levitation charm.

Kaito watched as the girl spied the next spell, something she was obviously excited about. Her eyes sparkled as she offered to go first, picking up her wand in a swift movement. Kaito read the textbook. Wingardium Leviosa, a levitation spell. He wondered what would happen if he cast that spell on a student. He grinned, thinking about it. He turned to the girl, who was already starting to cast the spell to the paper ball in front of her. As she said the words, the paper ball rose up. Kaito watched the paper ball with awe. The girl poked the ball and it dropped down. She giggled, smiling. Somehow, Kaito felt at ease with her, like he didn't have to keep anything to himself.
She turned to him, eyebrows raised with gleefulness. As she asked if he was impressed, he broke into a smile, nodding. As she urged him to try, he hesitated, picking up his wand but reluctantly nodded. He focused on the paper ball in front of him and and murmured the spell carefully before he watched the paper ball rise above his eyes. He smiled, watching it.
Soon the class was over, if seemed like they spent a long time doing the spells. The students started packing away. Kaito sighed, as he closed his textbook and packed his wand. He didn't really think he had any other classes with her. Now he would have to go back to being that quiet person. He turned to the girl, waiting for her to pack up. Now he would probably go back to Gryffindor. "Um.. what's your name..?" he asked shyly, averting his eyes, staring at the floor. "do you want to be friends..?" he asked.

————————————————————The classroom was buzzing with swirling emotions of relief and delight, as they were finally free from the classes for the day. Jam hummed softly while packing, shoving each book and school item in its preset place. She looked to her partner, who was still beside her, and studied him for a while. A little fragment of his smile from before lingered on his lips which made the girl quite satisfied. She was hoping to make him happy in the future, as he had a really adorable smile.
Just as the girl turned back to her cream-coloured backpack on her table, the Gryffindor boy spoke. Jam blinked once, with both glee and surprise present in her eyes. “Oh! I forgot to introduce myself!” The girl said, shaking her head while rolling her eyes. “I’m Jam, and of course I’d love to be your friend!” Frankly, the Ravenclaw girl could hardly believe that he, the seemingly anti-social boy in her Charms class, asked her if she wanted to be friends. Really, it felt like a huge honour to her. It wasn’t as if she made a great deal out of it, but she was glad to just be someone he could rely on.
Slipping a leather-covered book into her bag, Jam zipped it up and shoved her arms through the straps. “Well, this is goodbye for now I’m afraid,” The brunette pouted slightly, but only for a second, for her bright smile returned to her face once again. She started to skip off, turning behind only to give a small but cheerful wave to her new friend. “See you next lesson Kaikai!”
