An Unbelievable Friendship PV Cassiopeia Alarie Finished

Cassi may be a little scatter-brained but the one thing they love more than making friends is reading, they've always loved books especially magical books about charms and magical creatures.

They've been to the library so many times, they already have a favorite spot, far in the back away from students who love to slam books on the table. They quickly grab a book on the theory of charms and speed-walk to their favorite spot aka Cassi's Corner.

Imagine their surprise when they see someone else in their favorite spot, but today is no different than the others it just includes someone else. So they get comfortable, sitting across from the girl, attempting to discreetly analyze the person in front of them.

She is very focused on reading so some parts of her face aren't visible but Cassi can see her eyebrows slightly furrowing as she's focusing on her book and Cassi can see her pale complexion even paler than Cassi's pale freckled skin.

"You're very focused on your book huh? I'm Cassiopeia but please call me Cass. Usually people call me Cassi but I can tell we will be very good friends maybe even besties.", Cassi whispered but in a way that is quiet but the girl can still hear them. They are also beaming at the girl widely, dimples and all.

Cassi is aware that this is a bit too friendly but they can't bring themself to repress their naturally friendly personality.

Flipping though the whole book, Sylvia found it more disappointing than she had originally thought. Although it included many interesting facts and the history of Transfiguration, it is of almost no use when used to finish her homework. Maybe I should go find another book?

Just as she was about to get up, she noticed another girl walking over. Not wanting her seat to be occupied immediately, she made up her mind to remain seated for a little longer. After going through everything taught in class a few days earlier, she started filling out the questions which she had a confident answer to, so she would be able to narrow down the range of answers that she’ll be looking for later.

While she was concentrated in scribbling on her worksheet, her attention was drawn by the girl who is currently sitting opposite her. “You're very focused on your book huh? I'm Cassiopeia but please call me Cass. Usually people call me Cassi but I can tell we will be very good friends maybe even besties.”

Wait, what? Who introduces themselves like this? Taken by surprise, she stared blankly at the ginger-haired girl for an awkwardly long time before coming up with a reply. “Yeah, everything on earth has a possibility of happening, doesn’t it?” Though the likelihood does differ. She though silently to herself. Finally recovering from the shock of both been interrupted and spoken to with such unusual ways, Sylvia returned back to her most common way of introducing herself, and said, “My name’s Sylvia Nightingale, nice to meet you, Cass.”

Oooo both a mystery and a challenge! Cassi is a huge fan of mysteries and challenges...and cake, the girl known as Sylvia finally looks up and Cassi finds themself looking at very intelligent brown eyes. It's official Cassi is now even more intrigued.

Cassi is now very sure that they and Sylvia will be the best of friends. The way Sylvia talks is somehow friendly but a little introverted, an even better reason for Cassi to be friends with her.

"Nice to meet you too Sylvia. I'm Cassiopeia Alarie aka your future bestie. I bet I can get you to open up to me, my moms always say I'm too stubborn for my own good. I hope you know that I'm thinking of nicknames for you as we speak Sylvia. What book are you reading, it seems very interesting."

Cassi is very much aware that the way they said (cough hissed cough) Sylvia's name sounded a bit to close the accent they use when speaking to their mother's relatives but they won't dwell on that right now, their green eyes are shining with curiosity and interest because they want to know more about Sylvia but it's too early to ask.

Cassi's default emotions are happiness and interest which are a very dangerous combination for an extrovert like Cassi, Sylvia might not know it yet but she's stuck with Cassi and Cassi grows on people really fast.

Sylvia can’t help but cringe at the way how Cass pronounced her name. What sort of dialect is that? The dialect of snakes? Speaking of snakes, Sylvia was reminded of the fact that each of them would be in one out of four houses, and by seeing which house each another is in, they can usually arrive at a rather accurate image of that person’s personality.

Without much thought, she came to the conclusion that this girl must be either a Hufflepuff or a Gryffindor. Hufflepuffs are widely known for their friendliness, which manifests itself significantly in Cass, who is so extroverted that makes Sylvia slightly uncomfortable, since most people definitely doesn’t speak to someone who they has just met like that. Gryffindors, although known for their bravery, can also be rather welcoming towards strangers.

Taking one look at the house crest on Cass’s school robe nearly made Sylvia open her mouth in disbelief. What the hell? She is a Slytherin?! Even she herself, despite her introversion, preference for mischief, breaking the rules and sarcasm, still often feels that she would do better in Ravenclaw. But this girl in front of her, how could she ever be a Slytherin?!

Instantly doubting the Sorting Hat’s judgement, Sylvia asked with a perplexed tone that she didn’t bother hiding: “How come you are a Slytherin? I though you would be a Hufflepuff for sure…” Another thought suddenly crossed her mind. What if she is intentionally acting friendly to get me to reveal any secrets of mine? I’d better be careful.

Cassi POV

Oh, she seems to be perplexed. "Believe me, I was just as shocked but apparently my ambition and resourcefulness rival my Hufflepuff traits except my loyalty of course. So what makes you a Slytherin Sylvia? I imagine it isn't your Cunning."

If it was anyone else they'd be offended and think that, that was a snide remark but Sylvia seems smarter than that.

I have my days when I want to not just make friends with someone but test their reactions with certain things I say, Sylvia looks so peaceful when she thinks. I wish I knew what went on in her head.

I twirl my blonde highlight around my finger as I await her reaction, I can't read her body language or her facial expressions. I wonder if students are allowed in the kitchens, I could really go for some cake afterwards. I wonder what type of cake Sylvia likes possibly chocolate or red velvet.

I wonder if she knows of any muggle songs like brutal or any melanie martinez songs, nah she seems like a pureblood or possibly something else.

My brain hurts, I'm thinking too much and now I have a headache. "It's not a remark or anything, you just look like you have more to offer than Cunning." My tone is slight more happy and interested, I lean forward eagerly to see what she says next but also to analyze her once more.

Hearing Cass’s explanation, despite still being slightly doubtful about whether she is in the right house, Sylvia managed to see some reason behind this decision made by the so-called forever correct sorting hat. Ambition isn’t something that can be seen easily on the outside, so it can manage to make some sense.

In fact, during her time here at Hogwarts, Sylvia has found that many Slytherins aren’t actually as aloof as she had heard before from her parents. A lot of them has a quite extroverted side, at least when they are in their own common room. Outside in the school, though, some are still viewed as detached to others, most likely because of their arrogance towards students from other houses. But still, seeing someone as outgoing as Cass being sorted into Slytherin is definitely a first.

“So what makes you a Slytherin Sylvia? I imagine it isn't your Cunning.” Groaning slightly at how the girl once again pronounced her name, she made a mental note to ask her about it later. “Cunning? I hope not, though it is one of the Slytherin house’s main traits. Most people would rather say that I have a sharp mind than using that word.”

Cass explained immediately afterwards that she didn’t mean it as a cruel remark, probably thinking that Sylvia would have taken it the wrong way. “Yeah… I know. Never took it as one either.” Pondering over Cass’s remark about having more to offer than “cunning”, she wondered what the girl has meant. Did she mean that I’m better than the average Slytherin? At least it sounds like a compliment.

"Glad you know it wasn't a slick remark, pretty sure I can be more inconspicuous than that while insulting someone. You sure do have a sharp brain Sylvia.", I say with a slight change in my tone mixed with amusement and pride.

"Have you ever been to a record store? It's very fun, my Godmother owns one and she lets me choose the music. What's your favorite song?", she gives me Au/Ra vibes possibly Olivia Rodrigo. Heads it's Au/Ra, Tails it's Olivia.

I wonder if I can convince her to come with me to the record store, I'm in serious need of a few records. I should get her a gift, maybe a book or jewelry. Yup I'll get her a book, jewelry, and cake, I'm awesome at this gift planning thing.

I'm an amazing gift-giver, my family always like my gifts, like the pottery I got mama that one time.

It wasn't very good but she liked it, in fact she has it where veryone can see it in her book store. What is up with parents and showing off gifts that their children give them?

Sylvia is complex and I can't just get her pottery or just a book, it has to be simple but elegant. Like cake and books and jewelry, she will probably like the gifts.

Wondering whether Cass will take her as boasting when she mentioned others’ comments about herself having a sharp mind, Sylvia is relieved that the girl doesn’t seem to think so. With a polite smile, she replied: “Good to know that you actually agree.” Once again remembering why Cass claims herself to be a true Slytherin, a new question popped up, “Anyway, you mentioned that you are ambitious. So what is your greatest ambition?”

Abruptly changing the subject, Cass asked her a rather unusual question: “Have you ever been to a record store? It's very fun, my Godmother owns one and she lets me choose the music. What's your favorite song?” What on earth is a record store? Having spent most of her childhood on a secluded mountain, Sylvia hasn’t the slightest bit of idea about what the girl was talking about. While she doesn’t like to seem completely ignorant about a topic, she didn’t really want to bother with hiding it either at the moment. “What’s a record store for? Do you record something there?”

Musing over which song she likes best, Sylvia hesitated about what to say next. She has occasionally listened to some muggle songs during her free time, but not frequently enough to remember much about them. After some time, she finally managed to come up with a relatively familiar name: “I’m not really sure about that. I think there’s a singer named Taylor Swift or something? I quite prefer her recent songs.”

"You're a swiftie? That's unexpected but I think it's cool. A record also known as a Vinyl is a circular object that you can play on a record player or turntable and a record shop sells them. Different records play different songs. My godmother owns a record store, so I own like a billion records."

It amuses me how clueless people who grew up in the wizarding world are of muggle things, not that I can blame Sylvia, record players are pretty old. Now people have smartphones and ipods, but Sylvia gives me the vibes that says she's never really had a smartphone.

"I don't blame you, vinyls are pretty old. I'm pretty sure only a certain amount of people even remember them. What's your birthstone and what are your favorite types of cookies and cake?" I will get Sylvia a present even if it kills me, and it just might because I have no idea what she likes.

Maybe one of those muggle crystals for healing or knowledge not that Sylvia doesn't already have lots of knowledge, possibly a batch of mama's famous cookies. Or jewelry and cookies and maybe cake,

Her style is probably dark academia or light academia, probably a smart person aesthetic.
