There's no such thing as summer without swimming. Luckly for Hogwarts, there is a body of water right on campus and right in the middle of the campgrounds. However, the Great Lake on it's own is a very dangerous place, filled with violent and testing creatures.
On a normal school day, swimming in the lake is prohibited without supervision. But this is summer camp and students will swim no matter the consequences. And so a specific section of the Lake has been made safe for students to play in at all hours of the day, without supervision.
A large semi-circular section of the Great Lake, closest to the campgrounds, has been deemed safe. A huge and powerful ward has been set into place ranging from the top of the water all the way down to the bottom of the lake in a done like fashion. The sheild stretches from coast to coast in this section and no creature, witch or wizard, or even a peice of debris, can float through the barrier.
Although students are allowed without supervision in the waters, there will, most likely, be a member of staff serving as lifegaurd during daylight hours. Any student caught in the lake after dark or swimming in a restricted section, will be punished immediately.

Anastasia squealed with delight when she had heard that they would be aloud to swim in the great lake. The weather was so perfect for it too. Luckily her parents had brought her new swimwear and owled it to her before the term had finished, so she would be able to enjoy the refreshing water in the lake. She was more than happy to stay in the assigned area as she would had to be banned from swimming there and she hoped she would not need to be punished.
The sun was burning on her face when she decided now would be the time to go for a swim. Quickly changing into her swimwear she headed out towards the swim area. There was a small breeze that occasionally blew into her face but it was still not enough to fully cool her down. She couldn't see anybody else in the water. Well if I start swimming then maybe someone else will join me! She thought to herself hoping that she would be right.
Anastasia dipped her toe in and she instantly felt to coldness of the lake cool her down. She smiled and lowered the rest of her body into the water.

He was very surprised when he'd been informed that a small section of the lake would be open to swimming. Hengist wasn't very active or into sports, but he loved to swim. He had very fond memories of swimming in the ocean at the beach nearby his town and teaching his little sister to swim there. Ever since then, it was an activity they both shared and bonded over. The last time they went swimming together, she was almost faster than he was! She teased him about this, saying that he needs to be more active or else he'll get fat, a topic she'd brought up to him more than once before. He splashed her and laughed with her, knowing she was probably right.
This was something that he could talk to her about without feeling too bad about. He knew she would ask about his year and all the fun things he did. It ate him up inside that he couldn't share the experience with her. But swimming in the lake she can relate to. He made it a point to remember to swing by the Owlery to write to his parents to include his swim trunks with the rest of his summer camp clothes so he could swim...and tell Hilda about it, so at least there was something she can actually see herself doing with her brother at Hogwarts.

With a grievous sigh, Anatole tossed on his swim trunks and marched down to the Great Lake, his hair brushed and ready for duty.
Duty? Yes, duty.
As Prefect, Anatole felt obliged to monitor the lake, even in the warm and deadly months of the summer. There was no break in his mind where he should stop doing his job and acting upon the events here at the school. It would be a while before he returned to Tenbury, so hence, he decided to make the most of it. Maybe, if minimal trouble was aroused, he might take a dip in himself.
Clad in bright, solid blue swim shorts and a flimsy pair of flip-flops, Anatole took a seat by the water. His hope was to keep his hair as dry as possible, but knowing the deceiving depth of the Greatest of Lakes and the imminent rambunctiousness of the students he was to be observing, getting soaked was inevitable. The grass felt rough and muddy, so muddy that Anatole would have been embarrassed if he stood up, aware of a deep brown stain on the back of his pants.
So yes, eventually the boy would have to take a dunk.

Amanda ran down to the lake shore, her hair flying behind her. She was wearing a plain, cross back burgundy bikini with black flip flops. She held her black and white striped towel draped over her right arm. The Hogwarts summer camp had just begun only a few days ago, but Amanda was already having the time of her life.
She reached the lake shore and sat down. Amanda set down her towel and kicked off her flip flops. She spotted Anastasia and Hengist already swimming. She smiled and waved to them. Amanda stuck her fingers in the water and swirled them around. The water felt very refreshing compared to the hot sun. She glanced at the lake again. The barrier that the teachers had put up was slightly visible. Amanda silently promised herself to stay out of trouble and stay within the boundaries and not swim after dark. It wasn’t worth getting in trouble, after all. Amanda didn’t want to have to spend the rest of camp serving punishment. She dipped her feet in. She then decided to jump in and join her new friends. Amanda stood up and walked away from the lake. She then turned around and started running back to the lake. She jumped into the lake and felt the cold water wash over her. Amanda surfaced and swam over to Hengist. “Hey there,” she said. “How’s it going?”

Sophie wasn't shocked when she heard of the Great Lake being opened to swimming, after all, swimming was a very popular activity in Summer. Even most wizards and witches did the activity, meaning it wasn't an all-muggle activity.
Sophie herself had been swimming for years before entering Hogwarts, she was always a natural under-water kind of person, she loved the excitement of swimming with friends, or even just the silence of relaxing in cold or warm water.
Sophie had been one of the first people to basically sprint (and for someone who despised running or any activity of the sort, it was shocking to see her do so,) and want to swim in the lovely lake.
Despite the twelve year old begging the professors to open the lake for swimming, she had never succeeded in doing so, but she still brought her bathing suit anyhow. Not that she thought she was going to use it, it just brought her some pitiful comfort.
The weather at the time was perfect for swimming, then again, she found all type of weather 'perfect' weather for swimming. Lord, she could swim in the middle of December, or in the middle of June. It just really didn't matter as long as she wanted to swim.
As Sophie lowered herself into the sectioned off part of the water, she felt at a type of peace, kind of like when she had first walked into the cabin of the Thestral.
When she heard other people talking, it must've snapped her from her calming haven that she had been in for a while. She swam towards the group of three people, two girls and one boy.
"Hi! I'm Sophie Murphy! Are you all as excited that the lake opened as I am?" She grinned brightly, she always had a knack of meeting people and making very odd friends, no matter who they really were. Such a naive person indeed.

After receiving the package from his parents with his camp clothes, Hengist really wanted to go for a swim. He stuffed his black swim trunks, a towel and some flip flops into is backpack and made his way down to the lake. He changed in the washrooms near the lake and strolled to the swimming area. He saw two students there already; a boy sitting on the shore, seemingly watching the area with authority (must be a prefect, he thought) and a girl that he didn't know in a red two piece swimsuit, who was already swimming. Hengist laid his towel on the grass, put is bag and flip flops on top and slowly waded into the lake.
The water was quite chilly, but felt good compared to the summer heat. He swam out a bit, not getting too close to either the ward or the other swimming girl and swam a couple of what he would call "laps"; just getting used to swimming again, it hadn't been since last summer that he had the chance to do so. He then noticed someone waving to him from the shore, who was a Ravenclaw girl he'd seen in a couple of classes, but hadn't spoken too much to. If he remembered correctly, she was an American born witch named Amanda. She swum up to him, Hengist treading water after he noticed her waive, and said "Hey there, how's it going?" He was a bit puzzled as to why she was talking to him like a friend, but he decided he should try to act natural. After all, part of the reason he decided to come to the summer camp was to make new friends, right? "Amanda, right? Hengist asked, "I've seen you in class and the common room, but we haven't really spoken. I'm Hengist Warbeck if you don't know my name. I'm really happy they set this swimming area up, I haven't had a good swim since last summer."

Emma was ecstatic when she had walked out of her cabin to see a group swimming. She was happy to see that the Great Lake was open, though she had the feeling that the Giant Squid would pop out of its hiding momentarily. She pictured the various of her friends, some who didn't know how to swim, and those that feared the mysterious creatures. She didn't blame them.
The brunette had been taken aback by the swimming of the others, so she ran back inside to put on her very own swimsuit. She ran to the lake, though her hightops were still tightly around her feet. She wasn't going to have a piece of bark go up on foot or step on something slimy. Once at the lake, she slipped off her tennis shoes and ran splashing into the lake.
She was one that loved swimming, and she wasn't that bad at it, but she could never make a living out of it. If it had been quiet before, it certainly wasn't now. The water splashed on her hair and every once in a while she paused to wipe the beads of water from her face.
As her upper stomach broke the water, she began to swim to the crowd of people. She felt a little bad for the gentleman of the group, after all, he was surrounded by people of the opposite gender. As her head broke the surface of the water, she popped up and wiped her face.
Emma did the same joyfully wave as if she were in the cabin, though this time her hair dripped and water rolled down her cheeks. She introduced herself to the few that hadn't met her yet, "Hey, I'm Emma, how long has the lake been open? I hope I'm not late."

Swimsuits were overrated- well, not swimsuits. What was the word she was looking for? Bikinis, that was it. Bikinis were overrated, so Ami was wearing a pitch-black one-piece with a high neckline and a respectable cut at the bottom. Stalking down to the lake with her long, long legs, Ami brushed her new short hair out of her face, scanning the shoreline for a familiar face. Hey, that kid looked vaguely familiar... where did she recognize him from?
Squinting at the boy's face, it suddenly clicked without warning. Anatole, the boy she had seen in Diagon Alley! The one where they had promised to each other that they'd see each other at Hogwarts. They never did, of course, so now it was payback time. Kicking off her flip-flops, Ami ran down towards the beach, and hollered, "Anatole!"
Without warning, she bent down, scooping up the rather small boy and pulling him into the water with her. It wasn't all that deep, so the two could stand on their tip-toes and still keep their heads above water. "Hey," Ami smiled widely and slightly breathless. "Nice water, huh?" Well, that was certainly an awkward greeting. Mental reminder- never do that ever again.

It was sunny. Mia. Hated. The. Sun. It burnt her to a crisp, made her hair-already a perfect shade in her opinion-lighter and drier, and was overall not fun. Still. There was something to say for a nice sunny day. It made others happy, and lifted everyone's spirits. Except hers. But that was fine. If everyone was happy then they were more likely to not snap at her for being a prick. People snapping at her sucked.
Adjusting her flowing hair, Mia squinted at the water. There was a bunch of people that she didn't know-and Ami! Who was apparently torturing some boy that she knew from a play-Anatole. That was his name. The one who was strangely organized and fun to be with. Well. She didn't know him that well.
Ami. Mia's cheeks heated up and she slapped them, unnerved. Did she have a crush on the Hufflepuff? It was preposterous. Mia did not have crushes. Especially on someone her own gender. Not that she was homophobic or anything like that.
Mia slathered some more sunscreen on her face, making sure to rub it in. Then, without warning, she bounded into the water, holding her long, wavy locks in one hand. She didn't want them to get too wet. Long hair was a pain to dry.
Ami! Anatole! How are you?
Smiling at them, Mia dropped her hair and swam in farther to where they were standing. It was too hard to constantly keep her hair dry, and though she would regret it later, Ami would probably splash her later anyway. It was just something she could imagine her doing.
