Finished Books, and all the secrets that they hold PV Simon Tilia

Simon packed his school books in the study room and left for the library. He still got lost sometimes and this was such an occasion. When he finally went down the Grand Staircase, he bumped into a couple of his classmates and stopped to talk for a little while just to be polite, before excusing himself and continuing the walk through the castle to the library. He just hoped that those Slytherin girls that had been pestering him would leave him alone this time. Ever since the first day he had always been extra careful when entering the library, as if his shoulder strap were about to unfasten from his bag again or there would be some kind of accident around him.

As soon as he entered the library he spotted Madison with her blond hair tied in a bun. He waved and joined her.

"Hey", he said, a bit breathless from the rapid walk. "Sorry. I got lost."

"I've been looking in my textbooks and can't find anything, I think we need to look through some of these shelves in order to find another book that could help get answer. Where do you think we should start?"

"I'm not sure, really", said Simon. "I see you have started with Fantastical Beasts, already. I think that's a good idea. You should go over it from cover to cover, and take notes of everything, I mean, everything. Anything that you think correlates to what happened that day. Not just your scar and your memory loss, but also the weather, the surroundings, the time of day, anything weird that happened before you were struck, that you do remember. See if there is any causation between that and various beasts. Meanwhile, I can try and look around the shelf behind you and see what I find."

As he started looking around the shelves, it felt polite to ask a more personal question, beyond the task at hand:

"So... How do you like it so far? Hogwarts, school, everything?" He realized it was a broad question but that would also give Madison plenty of room for interpretation.

Madison giggled, "Don't worry about it, I still get lost sometimes too" she says with a smile.

Madison nods and starts taking notes of everything she could think of, starting with the weather that day. 'The day had started sunny but around noon was when it started raining down hard' she thought to herself as she wrote it all down. Madison also wrote how there had been thunder, lightning and even major winds that day leading up to her accident. She couldn't remember much about what happened before or after she fell and woke up, which she wrote down, but also she didn't see any out of the ordinary creatures either. Before she went for a fly, she'd been reading about the Aquila constellation but didn't see it when she went flying, even though it was pretty dark from the storm.

Madison closed her eyes and tried to rack her brain for anything that could help her, but it didn't work. After a while, she opened her eyes again and heard Simon ask her a question. "So... How do you like it so far? Hogwarts, school, everything?" he asked her and she smiled, standing up and looking through the shelves with him.

"I'm really enjoying it, learning about all this stuff is really interesting to me, plus the food is as good as my dad said it would be so I don't have much to complain about. Our first flying lesson last week was so much fun though, I really enjoyed finally being able to be on a broom and not feel afraid of getting caught" she said with a soft giggle. Madison took her hair out of the bun, brushed it and then put it into a loose braid "much better, that bun was giving me a headache" Madison said with a giggle as she kept looking through the books. She suddenly heard a weird noise coming from one of the books on the shelf beside her but it was faint. As she stepped closer, the noise got clearer but as she put her hand out to grab it, her scar started burning and so she stopped instantly, got her cream out and soothed her scar. She tapped Simon on the shoulder and brought him to the book she'd just tried to grab "It's a book on mysterious events, but when I went to grab it, my scar started burning really badly and, as she continues in a whisper, "I could hear a noise coming from that book, almost like the mix between a drum and a storm" she says, scared because they are way out of their depths, 'but we're too deep to turn back now', she thought.

Simon looked curiously at the book. It seemed to be just an ordinary book. A dark grey cover with a brown leather spine. The title said Mysterious Events in the UK 1897–1967: 2nd Edition and it was written by one Wumbert Gryth.

"Hmm", said Simon and looked at the book. "Are you sure it's this one? I don't hear anything?"

Carefully he took the book from the shelf, as if he was afraid that he would burn his fingers on it. Slowly he opened it and flipped through the book. The book seemed to contain a list of mysterious events in chronological order, some which seemed to have been solved between the 1st and 2nd edition. The author had made additions here and there. No pictures. Only chapters with text.

"It's really weird that you are reacting to this book", said Simon. "Because it seems just like an ordinary book, not like the one..." (Simon was about to mention the mysterious diary that he and Cassian had found in the Ravenclow common room the week before, but remember that he had promised to keep it a secret just between the two of them; what was it with all these mysterious books?) "... Never mind. But if you can't read it, then maybe I can try and see if I find something in particular. I mean, it's not like the book is dangerous, right...? Then it wouldn't be here but locked in the restricted section."

Madison looked at him and nodded "Yes I'm sure, that was the book that my scar reacted to, i'm sure of it" she says, leaning against the table whilst rubbing her scar.

"It's really weird that your scar is reacting to this book", said Simon. "Because it seems just like an ordinary book, not like the one..."
"Not like the one what Simon?" Madison asked. She was curious as to why Simon stopped his sentence and didn't finish, but she thought she may as well drop what he said after Simon started a new sentence. Madison looked at him and tried to study his facial expressions whilst he was reading the book. She sat at the table next to Simon and watched as he read the book I wonder what he'll find, I hope it's nothing bad... Oh no, what if my scar is a bad thing, then Simon might not want to be friends with me anymore Madison thought as she continued to watch him read. "I know, but books can sometimes be deceiving, you can't judge a book by its cover Simon, they hold many a mystery, books, they might not look dangerous, but they could be" she says with a giggle. She remembers she had her specialised gloves with her that protect her scar from burning when it touches something, so she put them on and reads on with Simon, "can I see it for a second?" she asks and, once she has the book, she gasps, speaking to Simon in a hushed tone "what were you talking about, of course there are pictures, there's pictures next to each thing on the list... wait, can you not see them?" she asks, getting very nervous about what might come next

"I know, but books can sometimes be deceiving, you can't judge a book by its cover Simon, they hold many a mystery, books, they might not look dangerous, but they could be."

Simon chuckled a little. "That is true, though. I've heard that The Monster Book of Monsters actually bites if not treated properly."

A couple of students passed them before Madison put her special gloves on and asked to see the book. He handed it to her and sat down on the table beside her. As he watched her flip through the book he suddenly remembered that his sister Clara had sent him a gift box from her company. One for him with products for men and one box with products for women. Or for girls. He had no idea who he should give the box to. He did not know any older female students at the school and Madison was the only one he would feel confident in asking. Most of all, he just wanted to get rid of it. Keeping a pink box with makeup and various skin care products in the Boy's Dormitory was not something he was comfortable with. Before he had decided whether he should ask or not, Madison opened her mouth:

"What were you talking about, of course there are pictures, there's pictures next to each thing on the list..."

Simon just starred at the book with a confused look on his face. There were no pictures. Only blank pages beside the first page of each chapter. He thought it was supposed to be like that.

"Wait, can you not see them?"

"I don't see anything", said Simon, almost as worried as he was confused. "You say you can see pictures? How is that possible? And why would someone write a book with pictures that are visible to some and invisible to others? What's the purpose of that? And what can you see? What's in the pictures, I mean?" This was getting stranger and stranger.

"That is true, though. I've heard that The Monster Book of Monsters actually bites if not treated properly."

Madison giggled "Yeah it does, my brother came home during his summer break and mum had to buy him new shirts because he'd gotten attacked by his Monster Book of Monsters, it was quite funny actually" she says with a smile.

She saw Simon looking at her confused as she told him that there were pictures. She looked at him even more confused when Simon said that he couldn't see them.

"That's strange, why would they show up for me and not you? she asks but as she saw the confused look on Simon's face, she turned back to the book and looked through it, whilst taking notes of what she saw.

At the end of doing so, she closes the book and turns in to face Simon, keeping the book near her as she shows him what she'd seen in the book, "so, from the pictures and the words, it seems as if something like this happened almost 100 years ago, but the child died a few weeks after getting the same scar as me. Apparently, one of the last things he wrote down on a piece of paper was Beware of the Eagle" Madison said, taking a deep breath as her hand shook a little from nerves "Simon, my scar, the constellation it's shaped after, resembles an Eagle when you connect the stars together in a pattern.." she says, leaning back as she doesn't know what to do next, about any of this, her whole world seems to have flipped around, Simon seemed to be the only person she could trust or count on, until she figured out what to do next. She took off her gloves and put some hand cream on her hands, since the gloves can make her hands go dry. She saw the look on his face when she did so and looked at him, "everything ok, don't tell me you use this hand cream too? My mum found it in a little boutique place in Kensington, this girl was apparently giving them out as freebies to test her new product, her name was Clara from what my mum told me, my favourite one is Vanilla and Marshmallow, I have the shampoo and conditioner in the same scent, plus one in a Candy apple scent as well" she says as she puts it back into her bag.

"Simon, my scar, the constellation it's shaped after, resembles an Eagle when you connect the stars together in a pattern..."

Simon tried to comprehend it all. They seemed to have made some progress because what Madison said felt as it could actually be related to her incident. But there was still so many unanswered questions and clues that it was impossible to make something out of it at this point.

"That is weird, indeed", said Simon. "Maybe this is something we should talk to Professor Baird about, since he teaches Astronomy. But I'm not sure how he will react to all this. After all, what you're implying, or what the author, Gryth, seems to be implying is that the type of scar you haveis connected to the star constellation... That sounds more like Astrology rather than Astronomy, to me. We don't deal with that kind of stuff in Astronomy class." He shrugged his shoulders.

As Madison used what appeared to be a regular hand cream he instantly recognized it, but seeing it within the school walls was not something he was prepared for. It felt a bit surreal that Madison of all would have that particular cream – it was his sister's.

"Everything ok, don't tell me you use this hand cream too? My mum found it in a little boutique place in Kensington, this girl was apparently giving them out as freebies to test her new product, her name was Clara from what my mum told me, my favorite one is Vanilla and Marshmallow, I have the shampoo and conditioner in the same scent, plus one in a Candy apple scent as well."

"Are you kidding me?", said Simon and chuckled. "That is my sister's shop... Unless there is another Clara Jacobsen with her own beauty product brand."

That was why he always recognized the scent of Madison's hair as well! She used the same shampoo and conditioner as his sister.

Madison listened and nodded "I guess so, but there has to be Astrology books here in the library that we can use rather than going to a teacher straight away...." Madison said nervously. She didn't want to go to a teacher, that would lead to questions, testing, getting pulled out of school, leaving Simon and that was all stuff she wasn't ready for, not right now anyway.

"Are you kidding me?", said Simon and chuckled. "That is my sister's shop... Unless there is another Clara Jacobsen with her own beauty product brand."

"Haha, no I'm not kidding", Madison said, listening to Simon and how he reacted to her using her hand cream. "No way really? That's so cool! My mum bought me two loads of both the shampoo and conditioner in both scents, that way I had one of each scent back home and one of each here at Hogwarts with me. I also signed up for the 6 month delivery box, so that every six months, I get a box of products from her store" Madison said.

Madison looked at Simon and giggled as she tried to find Astrology books, "Why do you ask" she says, pausing as she looks at Simon, before sitting back down. "You have a box of her products in your room don't you? Did she send them to you, so that you would be a walking advert for her company? I'm happy to take the girly products off your hands and use them, I've almost run out of my hand creams and sprays anyway so having more would be awesome!" Madison says with a smile as she gets back up and looks for more Astrology books.
