There's been a lot of strange occurrences- well- none that came from Clark Baird- happening in the Astronomy Tower at the wizarding school of Hogwarts. From mysterious noises coming from the halls- perhaps even the pungent smell of Dragon dung hanging off the ceiling and a sudden interest in astronomy amongst the students, something is definitely off.

Clark Baird was not exactly happy with the idea- the concept of others getting to use equipment he felt he was once declined- and he had never even asked if he could use them!

But he needed to be the center of attention. After all, who would he be if he didn't make himself the attention seeker.

This part goblin appears to be quite fond of knocking over telescopes, seemingly playing with the equipment- knocking over the lava lamp on the desk, but not looking and hoping it shatters.

But he wanted to ensure that he makes it difficult for students and teachers alike to observe the stars above- in every way, shape, and form. It was a way of protesting. What he was protesting, he had to admit, he didn't know. All he knew was that it gained attention to him. And after all, who wouldn't want to pay attention to the almighty part goblin who set fire to every antique object and tried to demolish just about half the things in Hogwarts since his arrival in September?

Note: It has been agreed in owls that Octavius, at some point in this thread, will step in and give Clark detention- and depending on how serious this thread gets (IC rules being broken and all) more might get literal detention.

When Ava showed up to the astrology classroom, she didn't expect to find another student there. She wasn't sure what to do, he seemed to be knocking down the telescopes for some reason. If she stayed, it was possible that she would get blamed for the mess, but if she left she could be blamed for not doing anything.

It took her a second to find her voice. "What are you doing?" She asked quietly, then realized he probably couldn't hear her. She cleared her throat and tried again. "What are you doing?" As far as she knew, there was no reason for this kid to be knocking down the school equipment, and especially not the telescopes. She actually found that astrology was somewhat interesting, although she rarely applied herself to the lessons, much less study more than was required.

Before he could answer her first question, she asked another. "What did those ever do to you?" It was somewhat a joke, but it was more of a question if she was being honest.

A mischievous glint entered her eyes when she saw the lava lamp on the floor. She knew the professor favored it, oddly enough since it didn't work. "You've done us all a favor by knocking that one down." She glanced at it again, and was disappointed to see it hadn't shattered, but grinned as a thought entered her mind. "Here let me help you." She leaned down and picked it up, slamming it to the floor with all her strength.

Yes, Clark was the one who knocked over the lava lamp, but there was a delay until a shattering sound was heard and the liquid oozing out. He knew it was the girl that asked what he was doing. When he turned around, he saw that the girl that had the mischievous glint in her eyes had brown hair and was obviously looking ridiculous. The girl was maybe a bit stunning in the sense that if she took one look at you, she would've stunned you and walked away acting like she was a perfect, dreamy girl that every straight guy would dream about.

Pity he wasn't straight. "Listen up." He started. "This is my father's classroom, and if you can't get your butterfingers out of here, then I have no choice but to ruin your life, and I sure as hell want to do so right now."

He withdrew his wand quickly, trying to be as speedy as possible. "Serpensortia!" He yelled, envisioning a tan snake with black diamonds along its back and on its end was a rattle. Out of the wand came a diamondback rattlesnake- as he envisioned. "TAKE THAT!" He screamed loudly.

He knew the way to cause the snake to vanish but he wouldn't be the peacemaker, at least, not right now.

When Ava saw that the lava lamp had shattered, a grin spread across her face. No, she wasn’t evil, but that lava lamp had needed to go. Without electricity in Hogwarts, it wasn’t even on. She thought it was pathetic that suck a thing was kept in the astronomy classroom, and had annoyed the professor by touching it very early on.

And now, she could finally do what had needed to be done. Technically, the only reason it was even on the ground was the boy, although she had shattered it. And who would know that she has shattered it? She could lie and say that he had done it, even if he hadn’t. After all, without electricity, there were no cameras to watch her.

Apparently, the boy wanted to hog all the fun for himself. He wanted to be the only one to destroy stuff, and he wouldn’t let anyone else. Talk about pathetic. He began lecturing her, and she rolled her brown eyes at him. "So you can destroy stuff but I can’t? Who do you think you are?" She reconsidered his words and wished she hadn’t said that last part, because she knew who he was. While he hadn’t directly said it, he had indicated that he was Clark Baird, second year trouble maker. "Oho," she laughed. "You are so busted." Maybe she didn’t have the best reputation, but surely no one would believe him.

Her laugh died away in her throat as he whipped out his wand and cast a spell, making a rattlesnake appear on the ground. Fear flashed across her eyes, although it wasn’t the same fear that stuck through her all day. More like a danger instinct.

She had heard that time seemed to slow down, but she hadn’t believed it would actually slow down. The rattlesnake slithered towards her at a lazy pace, although still fast enough to be concerned. She guessed she had about 3 seconds before it reached her and bit her, although she had no clue what she was going to do. There were three instincts, fight, flight and freeze. And apparently, she had resorted to the freeze option. The snake continued to slither closer, until it was close enough to bite her.

She closed her eyes, not wanting to watch. At least she could still move her eyes, because every other part of her seemed to be frozen. She braced for the bite to come, and hoped that it wasn’t fatal.

Octavius just walked out like an hour and a half ago! He needed to grab stuff for his classes coming up. But when he opened the door, his immediate instinct was to withdraw his thestral tail hair core wand and eliminate the hissing and rattling sound- there was a snake- but there was also a girl who was seemingly the target of the snake.

Whoever did let the snake in was in trouble. Perhaps it was the girl. "Miss Winchect, I presume." The professor said, now noticing that the Rattlesnake was attacking. Now’s his chance. "Vipera Evanesca!" He yelled towards the snake.

The snake burned from the inside out, until there was nothing left. He saw one other person in the room. Clark. His son wouldn't give anyone a break. "CLARK WILLIAM BAIRD, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST DO? YOU COULD HAVE MURDERED HER!"

Octavius was in shock. He knew his son was sort of like a demon from the underworld- the demon of chaos and destruction. But he really did hope that Clark would change and not get worse overtime.

But this might as well just be one hell of a fever dream that would make Octavius panic. Did he have to raise one hell of a cruel child? How could he save Clark? Could he scare Clark into being good? Was that a possibility?

It would be something he would need to consider as he takes the matter into his own hands and figures out how to effectively have these kids learn from their actions. Their misbehavior was not good. If they thought it was a positive thing to just be violent and destructive and murderous half the time, then Octavius had some serious work to do.

Clark realized what he had done wrong- rather quickly. Yes, the girl was all talk- and no bite, but Clark was all bite and no talk. Both of them clashed violently in terms of who was better.

Ignoring everything the adversary would've said, he withdrew his wand, now aiming for the snake. "Vipera Ev-" He started but heard his father's voice finish the line.

The snake burned, but Clark was in a lot of trouble. He didn't get to save Ava, he didn't get to do anything cool or amazing. Instead, he got trapped with the consequences of his own stupidity. "Dad! Ava broke you-" He wanted to finish the sentence but was interrupted. "Oh, this is not good." He said. Especially the mention of murder. He was hoping that thought wouldn't have dawned on his father's head, but hey! The boy was rather nefarious, so why wouldn't he have a day where he wouldn't be nice.

The whole personification of Clark was simple. He was simply a machine of chaos.

He hung his head low. Until the father stopped talking, he looked up with puppy dog eyes, and to really sell his pitiful look, he had fake tears streaming down his face. "Please dad, I didn't mean it! Ava here dared me to cast that spell and wanted me to lie to you and tell you that I broke the lava lamp." More puppy dog eyes. How else could he sell it? He needed to be convincing.

No bite ever came, but a somewhat familiar voice did. The voice of Professor Baird, Clark’s father. She peeled her eyes open as he cast a spell, making the snake burn up and disappear.

She didn’t have a chance to speak, as the professor immediately started yelling at his son. Clark tried to say something (probably about the lava lamp which she had forgotten about). She cowered nearby, but she hadn’t moved from her spot. As a matter of fact, she didn’t plan to. She didn’t think running away would fair well, given the professor definitely knew her.

Clark hung his head, and Ava couldn’t decide whether she wanted to smirk at him or take a step back. But it was all an act, as he burst out with his side of the story. His false side of the story. He said that she had dared him to cast the spell (she hadn’t even known that spell was a thing!) and that she had asked him to lie for her about the lava lamp breaking. She cast a long look at the broken lava lamp, which was in fact closer to her, before speaking as calmly as she could. Despite her summoned cool, her voice still quivered. "I didn’t even know that spell exists before now. And why would I ask you to demonstrate it instead of an older year. It hasn’t even been taught in our classes, how would I know you knew it?" She purposefully ignored the matter about the lava lamp.

Octavius mumbled to himself. "Do they really think I'm that stupid?" His eyes glared daggers into the childrens eyes.

He saw Clark's attempt of manipulating him and fell for it. "Clark? I'm sorry I yelled at you. Can you please just forgive me for yelling at you?" He said, but trying to keep up the sense of professionalism- despite how hard this was for him right now.

He spat towards Ava now. "Excuse me? Are you trying to change what really happened?" Octavius said angrily, his brows furrowed in Ava's direction. "Miss Winchect, if you don't mind. Make sure you tell me the WHOLE story."

As much as he wanted to do anything he realized that what Ava had said was the story. Was his son really so manipulative it led to Octavius being rude to another student? That was not professional and he needed to fix that mistake right away. "Miss Winchect. I apologize for my tone, my action towards you. It was not professional in the sense that I decided to allow myself to listen to Clark's deceiving words." He said with a solemn and serious expression on his face showing how apologetic he really was.

Then it clicked in his mind. He needed to know the truth about the Lava Lamp. "Kids. I love you as much as I would my literal children. I will fend for you no matter the situation. However, in return, I expect full honesty. Who broke the lava lamp, and what the hell happened?"

Clark had nothing else to do but to admit that he was being reckless, as he knew how unreliable he was- and the fact that his father just admitted to falling to Clark's obvious manipulation! What the fuck was going on? He finally decided to open up and confess.

"Dad. I am sorry to tell you this, but I was prepaid 10 galleons to keep this a secret- the galleons came from Ava, who stole it from your desk. Yes, your room is destroyed, but I simply just came in to look for you. But when I saw Ava and her malicious intent- you could obviously see it on her face- I immediately turned selfish and demanded that she pay me to keep a secret. When she smashed your Lava Lamp, I decided to no longer keep the secret as I knew it was your favorite. So I conjured up a snake, not realizing it had the potential to murder someone."

There, he had told his perfectly concocted improv'd little speech to his father. Hopefully now, Ava was too stunned to speak and she would get into further trouble. Oh, the dream has better come true or Clark was casting that spell again when his father's back was turned.

Ava listened to them talk round and round until she was utterly and otherwise completely confused. After Clark had attempted to lie to his father, Professor Baird somehow believed him. It wasn't the most believable lie, so apparently the professor could fall for anything. Ava's fists curled into balls as the professor began apologizing to his son. Ava rolled her eyes as the professor reeled towards her angrily, although she had done nothing (other than destroy his oh-so-precious lamp). It took him a moment, then he realized his mistake and saw the obvious. He apologized for his stupidity mistake, and then asked a question that made her freeze more than she already had. He asked about the lamp.

Ava opened her mouth to come up for some wonderful story about how she had not touched the lamp, but came up with nothing. Luckily, Clark gave her more time to think, coming up with his own lie. Something about her paying him with stolen galleons to destroy the room. Honestly, it made Ava laugh. There was no way Professor Baird would believe those lies easily.

Ava wanted to point out that if the professor was keeping galleons on his desk--in plain sight, no less, otherwise she wouldn't know they were there (according to Clark's story), they deserved to be stolen. And why would she pay Clark to cause the destruction when she could do it herself--and use the money to buy some dung bombs for pranking?

Now Ava was ready to speak, much as she knew Clark wanted her not to do. "I did nothing of the sorts!" Ava said indignantly, and she almost wanted to say 'objection, your honor' like in those court shows that sometimes ran on American TV channels. "I''ll admit, I broke the lava lamp." We both know it needed to be destroyed, she added in her head. "But your son did the rest of the damage."
