It was already May somehow.
A new school year began, Winter then crept in and then faded into Spring and here they were now - just months away from Summer vacation before embarking on another year of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It had been a year of many new things - he had become part of the healing internship with the school nurse in the Hospital Wing. He had corresponded with his father in letters and had some both successful and unsuccessful meet ups. He gained his unsettling aura and was learning how to harness that in. He went to parties and school dances. He spent much time with his girlfriend. He learned photography and started up a photography club at Hogwarts.
It was the latter of these that brought him out to the Great Lake early that particular morning. It was slightly chilly, but the warmth of the sun was causing a sort of haze/fog that seemed to rise from the ground and reach for the heavens and he knew that this would make a rather engaging photograph.
But it wasn't just the landscape of the Scottish Highlands that had his focus. That particular morning he hoped to perhaps catch a glimpse of Herman (at least that's what Simon calls him), the giant squid that lived in Lake. One snapshot was all he needed.
Herman was this illusive friend and quite difficult to catch. Simon stood, with his camera ready, and watched - hoping to see a rippling of the water's surface or some kind of indication that maybe the big creature was out there.

Time was running fast and now she was so close to finishing first year of studying here. It had very nice events and she got some friends, even from different houses.
This day was a good one with nice weather, so Linda decided to take her sketchbook and go outside to draw. She was walking till she didn't notice how, but she came to the Great Lake. As it was still morning she was wearing red T-shirt, black bolero, light beige skirt and black shoes. Normally for drawing she would choose some place where there was no one near.
But not this time. She noticed a guy, he was sure older than her, maybe two years difference. He was holding camera prepared to take photo of whatever he planned to. Linda hesitated a bit whether to still come there, as he stood in a nice place, or not. But then she decided to go there. It should be fine if he is taking photos, she is drawing, so they won't bother each other, right?
She came closer and said not very loud but enough to be heard "Hi, do you mind if I sit here and draw? I see you have camera, what are you waiting here for?" Linda hoped to not sound rude so she hoped it was fine.

Introductions with @Linda Ramierz
Simon was looking through the viewfinder of the camera when he first heard her speak and lowered it, smiling kindly toward her. “Hi, hi,” he greeted her and then instantly took two long strides to the side. “Join me! I love company,” and that was the truth. He was probably not only one of the most social students of Hogwarts but one of the most social beings on Earth. He thrived being around others.
“I recently got into photography and have been exploring wizarding photography. I’m trying to capture the elusive Herman.” It was after saying the words that he realized not everyone knew the creature but that name. “Herman - he's the giant squid. I once had a dear friend who called him that. This is my third time out here and no sign. The other two attempts it got too sunny and I had to abandon my search.” Simon wasn't exactly sure he'd ever catch him, but maybe that was all part of Herman's game. His eyes looked up to the cloudy sky that day in appreciation. At least he'd have more time out here in this attempt than the ones previous.
“I’m Simon, Simon Kincaid. Third year, Hufflepuff, avid music lover, strong in faith, Londoner in my muggle life,” and he turned to her and smiled again before bringing one hand out to shake with hers if she wished to introduce herself. He hoped so, otherwise they’d be there in silence together. Anyway, Simon was always looking to meeting a new friend.

Linda smiled and came closer. She liked company too most of the time. She sat down and looked at the Great Lake and then at the sky. It was really nice now. She felt awesome that she decided to come here now instead of staying inside the castle.
"Oh, good luck with it. Maybe today you can finally succeed. I like taking photos too, but drawing is also one of my favorite hobbies." Linda smiled. Third attempt. He really was going to keep trying, that's cool. Linda liked that in character. She was kinda professional in wizarding photography. But she didn't know about muggle photography much. They were taking photos that didn't move and that was whole her knowledge about it.
"I am Linda, Linda Ramirez. First year, Gryffindor. I have a lot of hobbies and don't know much about muggle world. Faith?" Linda smiled and shaked hands with him. Strong in faith, interesting, what did he mean by it.
It was perhaps not the best idea to say she has a lot of hobbies from the beginning, but it was true. Reading, drawing, photography, music and some more.
Linda looked at Simon. He reminded her of her brother somehow. He sounded so friendly. Perhaps he likes to make new friends. That's great as Linda liked to make friends too.

Talking with @Linda Ramirez
He was slightly curious as to whether or not she was pureblooded if she didn't know much of muggle life. That sort of thing fascinated him because he wondered what it was like to be in a household with no electricity, no cellphone, no iPhone to play music from, no internet.
It was a whole entire society and culture that was lost upon him, and just as a pureblood might be intrigued to learn about washing machines and dishwashers, he always sort of wanted to know what it was like to live surrounded by magic all the time.
Still though, he once had asked someone if they were a pureblood and that girl got rather snippy with him so he felt it was probably best to not ask.
"Yea, faith, like.....religion," he told her. "Putting my trust in God and having trust that he will fulfill his promises as I too promise to be a good person."
He hoped he hadn't just offput her in any sort of way. Simon knew that some didn't believe in such things and some even thought others ignorant for doing so. Hopefully Linda wasn't the type.
"Just as I have faith that someday I'll see that squid, but it doesn't look like today is my day," he said with a sigh and slipped his camera into his enchanted satchel. Another day, perhaps.
"So drawing is a hobby of yours, huh? That's amazing. I wish I was better at art." He had recently begun taking classes with his quillpal - Beatrice Dupont with painting. "Mind if I take a look at what you're currently working on?"

I still don't really understand what you mean I'm sorry. But you could tell me more. I am from pureblood family, so I don't know what you mean by faith and religion, but I guess it will be interesting to know about it. She looked at Simon. He didn't seem to know Ramirez family which was awesome for Linda as in Hogwarts she didn't show her been from quite rich family. It was interesting to know more about muggle world. She knew already little things but there's still was so much she didn't know about that world. Well, we still got some time here, probably you will see it. Do you know much about squid? I could draw it if you could describe this one for me. Surely drawing is not same as looking at it and taking photos, but still can be pretty cool. It's one of my hobbies that I like very much. You can always learn, especially if you are interested in it. And I'm sure you gonna be great in it. And yeah, you can look. It was exact sketch of the view in front of them. She finished with sketch and was already in the middle of painting it. What are your hobbies except photography? Could you perhaps, teach me muggle photography? And anything from muggle world. |

Pondering with @Linda Ramirez
"Faith and religion - you know, going to Church and reading the Bible and placing our trust in God and doing our best to live according to his teachings." Was that really a muggle-sort of thing? Were all purebloods nonChristians? That was something for Simon to ponder about and honestly, he didn't know too many purebloods to ask.
He had a better look at what she was working on since she gave permission for him to see it and he smiled. She definitely did a better job than he could do, but then again, his pet rat could probably do a better drawing or painting than he could do.
"Yea, although muggle photography is a lot like wizarding photography without the movement. My aunt's boyfriend taught me all about it back in London. He really likes it, only second to cooking for him. He's a chef." Was he a good one? Probably. He did make a very nice steak but food wasn't really Simon's favorite.
"What kind of muggle stuff do you want to know?" he asked. "A lot of it is quite fascinating! We've got movies and television, electricity, the internet, so much good music...., cellphones, video games...." he tried to think of some other things but honestly wasn't sure what was only exclusive to muggles and not those of magic.

That helps a bit. Think I never thought about it before though. Linda smiled. She wasn't sure about religion although she understood the point. Probably no one in her family really ever thought about it.
She enjoyed drawing and it was coming out very real-looking. Just little more time and she would be done with it. What do you like to take photos of? She liked to take photos of landscapes, nature, sometimes people. Basically everything that she finds interesting enough.
Without movement. That's interesting, but then it doesn't really show the moment behind a photo. Linda loved wizarding photos because of movement. They were showing the moment, not just a second from it. But maybe that was because she got used to it so much.
Movies and video games. I would like to know about them more if you don't mind telling me. Linda smiled again. It was quite interesting and completely worthy of being here today. She wanted to know a lot, but she didn't want to be annoying. Also that would take some time, so it could just wait.
She looked at the lake and at her drawing. Now it was finished so she could pay more attention to Simon's words. What about sport? And I heard muggles have skateboard and some kind of scooters. Can you tell me about them? Do you have any of those?

"Well, out here I was hoping to capture the elusive Herman, but that doesn't seem to be happening," yet again, another venture leaving him empty handed. He knew that Herman existed, it was just that the giant squid liked to keep to himself. The most Simon saw was a tentacle lifting from the water here or there but someday - SOMEDAY he would see him up close and maybe he'd have his camera with him! Maybe he could submit it into the Headliner or get Herman a spot as an honorary Hogwarts member in the yearbook!
"I mostly take photographs of my girlfriend because she's beautiful," Simon smiled, feeling a little shameful in that. It was only truth. "But I like taking capturing my time at Hogwarts here - the castle, the grounds, ...I just know I'm going to miss it all when I graduate. Back with my muggle camera in London I liked to do more shadows and lines and patterns."
"Movies and video games are really fascinating but probably best to show rather than explain. If you go into Diagon Alley for school supplies, you should see if your parents don't mind you stopping over at some random boy's house in London over break," he of course meant himself, "and I could show you. Honestly, the best device is the cellphone because you can use it to communicate, a music player, as a computer, as a camera, a notebook, a calculator, a map to the stars, a video game console, a flashlight, a television, a translator, a stopwatch, a mirror, a guitar tuner, look up the weather, use it like a compass or a map maker, a clock, you can read books on it...and probably so much more!" Oy, yes, the boy was definitely from the muggle world.
"There's a lot of muggle sports out there," and many that he never attempted to do. Most required you to be outdoors and often in bright sun so that was sort of out for him - especially growing up when he didn't understand everything about his condition. "Skateboarding is really cool though! It's a board, like a surfboard," and just as he got done saying that he realized that the wizarding world probably didn't have surfboarding either, "it's kind of an elongated shape and you stand on it sideways and underneath it has wheels. You can get somewhere faster by it, you can do different tricks. I could show you but I don't have mine here. I could bring it next year though!" and he had always sort of thought about bringing it anyways.

I am sure you will capture Herman one day. Linda smiled encouraging. Simon was already giving it so much attempts that one of them had to be successful. Also she thought if he had what he called faith, then it should help him. She hoped it would happen before Simon would lose hope.
Muggle one doesn't move as I heard. What do you like more in these two different ways of capturing photos? Linda looked so interested. As someone who can do both, he would surely have something he likes more in each of cameras, or no? She didn't know because she wasn't him so she couldn't even think about it. But it will be interesting to hear about it from Simon.
I guess it will be indeed much easier for you to show me all these movies, computer and many more you said. I have a feeling it's best explained when seen. My family will be fine with that, but is it possible for me to come to your house? She understood that guy was talking about himself and his house and she knew quite well, her parents won't mind it.
Skateboarding? Sounds really interesting. If we agree on my coming to you, I guess you could show and teach me even there. Otherwise it would be awesome if you could bring it here. Linda smiled enthusiastically. She was always up to something new and it sounded really fascinating.
