Parselmouth is in bold.
Kiana wasn't one to talk. Nor did she like 'making friends.' Yet, she always found herself attracted to crowds, itching for attention. The only thing holding her back was her secret. Though Kiana knew very well that others may share her secret, she still felt a lingering sense of insecurity that left her lonely and confused. Why did people glare at her when she walked by? Why did Gryffindors specifically (well, with her new friend Alana as the exception) sneer and taunt her? Of course, there was nothing more basic than a wealthy, pure-blooded Slytherin like her. Kiana wanted to cry.

But she knew better than that.

Crying was for the weak. She wouldn't allow herself to do that. All through her childhood her mother had disciplined Kiana and trained her for everything in life. She was the "tiger mother", the strict asian mom, and Kiana was the obedient student. Her mother always assumed strength, not fragility, and to this day Kiana took pride in her mental (and physical) strength. How could she let down her mother now for some emotional struggles that hardly meant anything?

That being said, she didn't expect to talk to anyone today. The only times she ever spoke was when a professor called on her, or if some bully was trying to pick a fight (usually she'd come up with a witty comeback and drive said bully away). Kiana sighed, twiddling her thumbs and contemplating what to do next - read a book, do homework, or take a walk around the courtyard? After her recent encounter with Alana, the courtyard became her new favorite place to be. Fresh air helped clear her mind anyways. She say down on a bench and took out a book, pretending to read though her mind had wandered elsewhere. She scanned the courtyard, seeing a couple students and secretly hoping someone would approach her.

It was a fairly quiet weekend afternoon. The sun was hidden behind the clouds, so Nico was in a rather good mood. Such a good mood, that he decided to go outside to the courtyard, and perhaps do a bit of drawing.
Nico walked up the seemingly endless flights of stairs from the Slytherin Common Room and through the nearly empty corridors. Once he reached the Courtyard, Nico found a shadowed spot hidden in the corner of a vine-covered wall.
He sat down and as he opened his bag to get his sketchbook and pencils, he noticed a girl sitting on a bench, reading a book.
"Wow, what a big deal! Someone is reading a book! That's so out of the ordinary... But you kind of want to talk to her? Now, THAT is out of the ordinary."
The girl was attractive and would stand out in a crowd. But what made Nico so curious was that he wanted to get up and talk to her. There was something strange about the girl. Not in a bad way, but just by looking at her, Nico could tell that there was something different about her. But also there was something that felt similar about her. Something that made him stand up and walk over to her, and say, "Hi, I know this is rather strange, but I'd like to get to know you. I'm Nico, by the way."

It was like magic. Which wasn't strange anyways considering she was in a magical world, but one minute she was hoping someone would approach her, and now there he stood: a Slytherin first-year boy standing before her, conversing. Kiana didn't quite know how to respond, but she was satisfied nonetheless. Maybe she wasn't as "unapproachable" as people made it seem.
"Oh, hey there! I'm Kiana, nice to meet you Nico," Kiana spoke confidently, maintaining her poise and gesturing for Nico to sit beside her. "It's not often that people want to approach me, so I'm happy you decided to. I'd love to get to know you too," she offered quietly, half reading-, half-focusing on Nico. Ever since her interaction with Alana, she felt a lot more comfortable talking to people. It seemed like less of a challenge now, though she still felt nervous around other people. Moreover, Nico gave off an aura that surprised Kiana but also felt awfully familiar. Probably just a Slytherin thing, she thought nervously, trying to reassure herself (and failing to do so). Of course, if the two bonded well enough, Nico may be willing to share a couple secrets (and Kiana would share hers as well). At that moment, Kiana really, really, really wished Alana were here to guide her and teach her the "art of human interaction."

"Nicely done! You socialized willingly! One step forward! Now, where are the two steps back?"
The girl, whose name was now known to be Kiana, gestured for him to sit next to her. So, surprisingly Nico did. Kiana told him how people don't generally approach her, so it seemed that only he was really drawn to this girl, whom he had never met.
With surprising confidence, Nico said, "I can relate to that. Even when I was younger people seemed to ignore or avoid me. But then again, I do the same thing," he paused. Noticing he hadn't mumbled or stuttered, Nico was slightly shocked. "How did I manage that? That's quite absurd. There's just something about this girl. She seems familiar, but I doubt I've ever met her."
There was silence for a moment, but just that.
"I feel like I know you from somewhere. Perhaps... are you in Slytherin? That must explain it. I doubt we've ever met. I have a rather keen memory, so I believe I would remember if we had met previously," Nico rambled.
He rarely ever talked like this or this much. The last time he did, it was back when he'd met Kayla. That was a nice time to remember, at least for Nico it was.

Kiana smiled (which she rarely did). Nico's presence felt comforting, and Kiana could finally find inner peace. It seems my social skills aren't so bad after all. "Yup, I'm a Slytherin. And you are too?" she asked, curious. She and Nico seemed to have something in common, she just didn't know what it was. They were both slytherins, so....well, what exactly did Slytherins have in common? Nico certainly was NOT scheming or callous. "You're right....you do seem a bit familiar. Though I did feel attracted, it's not because I've seen you, more so, a lurking energy that we both share. A magical thing, maybe?" Kiana suggested, still unsure. Her mind wandered, thinking about random, arbitrary things. The Spring Court, homework, the hexiwixard tournament, and other things. She was terribly bored. “Got any plans? What’s going on in your life right now?” she asked, hopefully not being nosy. She still felt a strong attraction and was itching to know why. “Why can’t life be as simple as a book?” she asked herself not knowing what she had done. No one was supposed to know her secret. No one! Yet, she’d exposed herself and Nico was probably afraid of her now. She felt like running away but stayed rooted in place, paralyzed with fear. She didn't know what to say next.
"I'm sorry about that..."

"Look at you! Making friends!"
Kiana smiled and asked if Nico was a Slytherin as well, to which he responded with, "Yes. My father was also in Slytherin, unlike my mother, who was a Ravenclaw."
Nico felt he could tell this girl anything, despite only knowing her for minutes. There was just something about her that made him feel normal, and apparently, Kiana felt the same.
"Hmm, perhaps. There's just something about you that seems so... familiar," he muttered.
Plans. Oh, yes. Nico had plans. Plans that weren't very Nico of him.
"Go ahead. Tell her everything about you. I'm sure she won't mind. And yes, bragging about how you're taking a beautiful girl to the spring court is definitely a great idea."
There was a slight breeze to fill the silence as Nico thought. But then there was something else to fill the silence. Just as he was about to answer, Kiana spoke.
What she said made sense, people in books had it so much easier. Their lives are already planned and written, but in reality, people have to make their own stories. Their words aren't just said and thought of for them.
But the way she said it sounded different, maybe it was her tone that changed, but it didn't really phase Nico. At least not until he responded, "Yes. I wish it was. It would sooo much easier."
"Did I just- aw damn it..."
He froze and covered his mouth.
"Did I just say that?!"

Parselmouth is in bold.
Kiana couldn’t find the words to speak. First off, she’d spoken parseltongue to some she barely knew (well, now she knew him better). Second, Nico spoke parselmouth as well. No wonder he felt so familiar. Maybe it had to do with the lurking power in the both of them that drew them together. Even then, Kiana still didn’t know why parselmouths were drawn to each other. ”You speak parselmouth as well?” Kiana asked, quite stupidly actually since the answer was pretty obvious already. Just then, she remembered something important.

Recently she’d stumbled across the “A.S.P,” a group of student parselmouthes. Though she hadn’t gotten to know them well enough, she was itching to know if Nico was in it too. After all, there surely weren’t a lot of parselmouthes in Hogwarts. ”Are you in the A.S.P? The student organization of parselmouthes? Probably shouldn't have mentioned it...” Kiana asked, whispering this time as she glanced nervously at the students around them. Thankfully no one heard (or at least Kiana thought so). Being a parselmouth had always been Kiana’s number one secret and for half her life she was convinced that she was the only parselmouth at Hogwarts. She thought she was different and disliked because of it. Little did she know, there were many students who shared her quirk, Nico included. That was somewhat reassuring, though Kiana was now wary of the students around her. Who knows? Anyone could be a parselmouth.

Kiana sighed and rested her hand on the bench, putting her book away. There was no need for it anyways, she had company now.
”I always thought I was the only one.”

"That makes sense now... You both are snakes!"
There was a moment of silence. That silence was loud with confusion, embarrassment, and shock.
Nico had only ever muttered a word of Parseltongue to Kayla, and that was on accident. But now... Kiana speaking it must have triggered him somehow. Nico still wasn't too sure how being a Parselmouth worked. He hadn't ever really met anyone else who could speak the language of snakes before.
Well, except for the organization of Parselmouth students, but Nico hadn't met any of them, and he assumed they were a very small group. Just ask Nico was going to ask about it, Kiana said it for him. "Are you in the A.S.P? The student organization of Parselmouthes? Probably shouldn't have mentioned it..."
He paused, so she did know about it. "Yes... And you?" he asked, barely above a whisper. "And yes. We probably should not be speaking about this here, out in the open."
Nico had always thought he was the only one like this, and that everyone could tell there was something wrong with him, and that's why people avoided him. But now, he had found someone who was just like him, and it felt great knowing that he wasn't alone in the struggle to be normal.

Kiana nodded. She was frankly quite glad that Nico was part of the group - more opportunities to know each other. Kiana guessed that the key to making friends was to have things in common - which she and Nico seemed to have a lot of. Both Parsels, both Slytherins, both pure-blooded. They sat awkwardly for a minute, unsure of what to do next. Kiana hesitated, wondering whether she should strike up a conversation again. Socialization was tough.

Kiana's mind drifted to the Spring Court, wondering if she should go. She hated events like these and would do anything not to go to them. The last time she attended a "party" was when her father hosted one for his "noble, dignified guests." Kiana was expected to dress in an uncomfortable gown and tie her hair every which way so that it became tight that Kiana thought it would rip her scalp off. The dress itched horribly. That night a rude guest knocked a blood-red drink on her and she retaliated, tossing a brussel sprout their way. She'd been scolded terribly after that.

On second thought, however, she reconsidered. If Nico and her friend Alana were going to attend it, then she might as well don her best dress and dive into the spirit of the party as well. A little exploration couldn't hurt. Maybe she'd end up liking it.

"Are you going to the Spring Court? I'm thinking of asking my friend to attend with me. I'm sure it'll be fun," she commented, curious.

"You can have a snake bestie now!"
Secretly, Nico was happy that he had found someone like him. It had been difficult to hide something that was a part of who he was. Parselmouthes had a bad reputation, as some of the evilest wizards were known for their rare talent. The only "good" Parselmouth was the famous Harry Potter, but Nico felt he was overrated.
"Are you going to the Spring Court? I'm thinking of asking my friend to attend with me. I'm sure it'll be fun."
When Kiana asked that, Nico smiled a little. He was a little proud of himself for being able to ask someone to the Court, especially since that someone intimidates Nico a little with her ability to be so confident all the time.
"Yeah, actually, I am. I'm taking Duvessa Ember. She's also a Slytherin," he said with a slight smile. "There you go again, smiling over a girl... Dignity is OUT the window. Never really had it in the first place though..."
The Spring Court was coming up soon, and Nico still hadn't owled his mother to send him an outfit. He probably wouldn't, seeing as she didn't quite like Nico dressing in black. So she would probably send him something green, or blue.
"Do you also have snake friends, or is that just me?"
