Lost in the Corridors
Amaris glanced around the area, finding it identical to the previous corridors she had been in with the exception of a few moving paintings which she still hadn’t gotten used to. She had been wandering around the school, hoping to find her way from the Great Hall back to her common room to no avail. The layout of Hogwarts was confusing and it was times like these that she wished she had a map with her or at least had a better sense of direction. Hopefully, as the year went on she would get used to the labyrinth of a school. Otherwise, it would be quite a troublesome year.
To her, getting lost was one of the worst parts of starting at a new school and the fact that there were strange moving staircases definitely added to the difficulty of traversing the grounds. The school seemed like a sadist had designed it, though she supposed she was being a bit too harsh. Amaris sighed, how long had she wasted searching for the Gryffindor common room? Five minutes? Ten? Perhaps she should just go scouting for a faculty member or another student instead, she thought, that would certainly be easier than continuing to walk around aimlessly. In fact, it would’ve been smarter to ask someone back in the Great Hall for directions, Amaris realised.

Lost in the Corridors
The halls of Hogwarts that once confused Lucas were finally starting to become familiar to him, and he had growing confidence in his ability to find his way around the school. Sure, the stairs would still throw him off but otherwise he had less and less issues around getting lost.
Despite this, he still found himself exploring the corridors in a lot of his free time, as his parents had told him that Hogwarts had many secrets, and he was keen on finding out about such secrets. As he was out on one of these many excursions through the halls, he saw someone wandering around aimlessly. It might be funny to watch for a while, but he felt somewhat sympathetic for here, as he had been lost many times before. After a brief moment of contemplation, he eventually made his way over towards her, calling out. "What are you looking for? You don't look like you really know where you're going."
"Also, I don't think we've met yet, so I'm Lucas." It was probably worth introducing himself as well, and maybe this time he could actually leave a good impression, as so far most his interactions around being lost hadn't gone to plan.

Her attention went from her dilemma to the boy that had just approached her. Amaris was relieved to see another student, though slightly embarrassed. He had probably seen her walking around like a fool though at least he was nice enough to try and help her out. She also doubted that she would be the last person to get hopelessly lost within Hogwarts, a thought that somewhat reassured her. Hopefully, this would be her final time losing her way though she doubted that. Amaris would be impressed if she got used to the school before the end of her first year.
“Uh, I was looking for the Gryffindor common room,” she answered, fiddling with the fabric of her robes. “I’m Amaris. Nice to meet you,” she said, introducing herself in turn.
The boy was probably in his first or second year considering his height, Amaris thought. In any case, the boy, Lucas seemed to know the layout of the school well and that was good enough for her. Her thoughts went to what Lucas was doing here, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Was he just exploring the corridors? Or did the path she was on lead to something major?

"Nice to meet you, yeah." He nodded in agreement, before adding on. "I can show you to the common rooms though if you want, I was actually just thinking about heading back there."
"I felt a bit bad seeing looking like you were lost. I've only just really started to figure my way around, so I've been lost quite a lot myself. It is suprisiginly helpful getting lose though.. I've got a pretty good idea of how to find my way through the corridors now." He explained, glancing over her shoulder for a moment. Despite what he had said about wanting to head back, he really hadn't been exploring for that long, so it did seem like somewhat of a shame for him to get back, and he hadn't even found anything of interest yet.
"You met many people in our house yet? I haven't actually got around too meeting too many other Gryffindor first years." Not that he'd been hugely social in generalm but it was a suprise he'd intereacted so little with his own house up until this point. He could assume she was also a first year based off of getting lost, so he was somewhat curious about her own experience with meeting people.

Amaris smiled before replying. “Thanks.” According to Lucas’ words, he probably was also a first-year student like her. She glanced behind her, wondering what the boy was looking at. Perhaps he originally wanted to keep exploring the castle or had another destination besides the common room in mind. Then again, he did say he was heading to the common room so she was probably overthinking. Besides that, Amaris knew that she would definitely get lost many more times before she truly got used to Hogwarts, something that was cemented by what Lucas said. It would be an annoying process of trial and error, though Amaris couldn’t think of a better alternative.

She never had been that social and she had spent the majority of her time at Hogwarts getting used to the school. It was reassuring to know others who were also not socialising within their house, at least not as much as Lucas had expected to prior to coming to Hogwarts. Then again, he had been home schooled so his only real experiences had been with the kids of other Pureblood families, and they all had been home schooled as well. "I would like to try and meet some Gryffindors though, most people I've met seem to be ravenclaws., or a couple of Slytherins."
"Follow me then, I guess." He turned around, and started making his way back towards the common rooms. He was fairly confident in being able to get back from here, the only thing that could ruin it would be if the stairs shifted. After a few steps, he had a quick glance back, just to be sure that she was actually following.
"Your family tell you much about this place?" He asked, failing to even think that she could be a muggle born. "Before I got here, I thought I'd know it like the back of my hand, but then everything was just so much bigger than what my mum and dad made it out to be."

Amaris nodded, following Lucas back to the standard room. Similar to Lucas, most of the people she had met appeared to be in Ravenclaw. Were there just more people in that house than any of the others? She walked behind Lucas, glancing at the unfamiliar surroundings. From the path they were taking, she definitely hadn’t been close to the common room. She had no idea how Lucas knew where to go, the route they were taking seeming random to Amaris. She definitely didn’t look forward to finding her classes. She would probably end up following another student who looked like they knew what they were doing.
The girl was surprised at Lucas’ question. She supposed that he was a pureblood, his parents having been to Hogwarts. Meanwhile, her parents lacked any magical abilities and they hadn’t even been aware of the existence of wizards and witches before Amaris received her letter. “Oh, uh, my parents were both muggles,” she replied, somewhat embarrassed.
She wondered if the fact that she was a muggle-born would be a big deal in the wizarding world. Hopefully, it wouldn’t matter that much. That would just make adjusting to the magical society more difficult, something that she didn't need.

The girl was surprised at Lucas’ question. She supposed that he was a pureblood, his parents having been to Hogwarts. Meanwhile, her parents lacked any magical abilities and they hadn’t even been aware of the existence of wizards and witches before Amaris received her letter. “Oh, uh, my parents were both muggles,” she replied, somewhat embarrassed.
She wondered if the fact that she was a muggle-born would be a big deal in the wizarding world. Hopefully, it wouldn’t matter that much. That would just make adjusting to the magical society more difficult, something that she didn't need.

Lucas slowed slightly at a couple of points in the corridors, glancing either way, before eventually making his decision and turning. He knew where he was going, but some parts of the corridors looked annoyingly similar to the others.
"Muggleborn?" He glanced over his shoulder, his expression a mix of curiosity and suprise. He hadn't gotten the chance to talk too many muggleborns, having mostly met with other Purebloods, or half-bloods at the minimum. "How was it then? Finding out about all this stuff, can't imagine it was too nice." He asked, somewhat unsure if that was quite insensitive or a good way of wording his question. Despite some of his families belives around muggleborns, he was more curious about them than anything else. "Also, how do you even believe the letter you get? I'd think it seemed like a joke if I was a muggle and got an invitation to a magical school."
After some more walking, Lucas slowed as they reached the stair cases. All his previous confidence was now missing completely, as he looked around uncertaintly. "Can never figure these things out.." He muttered to himself, stepping onto the stairs, hoping that they wouldn't begin to move quite yet.

Amaris noted how sometimes Lucas paused before making a turn. It seemed that he still didn’t have the layout of Hogwarts down pat or at least couldn’t differentiate from the corridors which looked identical to her. Hopefully, the two of them wouldn’t get lost.
She was glad that her being muggle-born didn’t seem to be a big deal to him. Rather, Lucas seemed curious. “It was pretty strange finding out that there was a completely different world than you were aware of,” Amaris answered. She continued to listen as Lucas asked another question “Yeah, it was pretty surprising. My parents nearly called the police on the professor who gave me my letter.” Amaris replied, smiling. It was a funny encounter now that she looked back on it though at the time, it was a bit frightening. Her parent's reactions were understandable of course. If a random person showed up, claiming your daughter was a witch you would think a prank was being pulled or they were high.

Lucas nodded along as she explained, a small grin on his face when she spoke about wanting to call the police. "Makes sense for them to send a professor or someone in person actually, Pureblood, and I assume anyone with a wizarding parent, just get send a letter by an owl." From Lucas' understanding, muggles didn't really use birds as a communication method anymore so that would probably add to the confusion.
"Surely you had a hunch or something though? Like you must of done some magic by accident at least once before Hogwarts, or did you just assume there had been some crazy coincidence? Dunno how you'd of explained mine though.. A ball just stopping in the air randomly was pretty weird." He remembered his own first accidental usage quite fondly, as it had probably saved him from getting into the most trouble he had ever gotten into.
The stairs mostly seemed to be holding still, so Lucas' confidence was fully returning. "Might be cool to try and live like a muggle for a week or something, try figure out all of your technology stuff." Eventually, after a few more steps, the finally come to a painting of a fat lady, and Lucas came to a complete stop.
