I walked down the staircase, glad that classes were over for the day. When I arrived at the library I grabbed the door and heard it creak open. The smell of dust and old paper hit my nose as I stepped inside. I had only been in the library a few times before, and those times I was just studying. This time I wasn’t here to study. I had sone free time, and I had already finished all my homework. I had a few things on my mental to do list, they were: sign up for some clubs, learn about wizarding sports and sign up for a sport.

The library was pretty busy. There was at least one person at each table, and I plopped down at one that already had one boy at it, he was reading a thick book. I threw my stuff down and went to find a book on quidditch. I knew what it was, just didn’t know much about it. I checked it out and when back to the table.

The boy had gotten out a journal and seemed to be copying stuff in to the journal. I sat down and opened my book. as I was reading, I continued to sneak glances at they boy, and try and figure out who he was. After a few glances I figured out that he was defiantly not a first year, but was not a sixth or seventh year. I looked up and our eyes met. Crap. He saw me. I thought. He had the same pale skin I did. My mind raced. It immediately went to Dhampir.
“Hello, I’m Charlie. Are you a Dhampir too?” I whispered.

Introduction with @Charlie Jacobsen

Simon noticed when she had placed her things down and then left. Granted, it usually didn't hurt to ask if you could share a table but the Library was particularly busy that day. Maybe it was because the weather was starting to grow colder there within the Scottish Highlands and those that normally spent their free time socializing were now forced to find indoor places to gather. Maybe it was because holiday break would be upon them sooner than one thought, and the professors began to cram in all those last minute assignments and essays. Probably that.

That's what Simon was doing as he had a few books on magical creatures before him. He was doing a report on hinkypunks. When she returned, he said a quick hello to the girl in midsentence as his quill moved quickly across the page. This essay was coming easily, it seemed, but he didn't want to break his train of thought. His hello was met with a boy at the shelf of books next to them dropping the stack that was with his hands and overpowered his greeting.

Soon gathering the feeling though as if he was being watched and he also realized he had yet to even present a small smile to the girl, so he lifted his head and did so. What she said to him was rather unexpected. The introduction was nice, but what followed it was the surprise.

"Hey, I'm Simon," he replied. He was curious though. What gave him away? Plus....she said too, as in also.

"You're a dhampir, eh?"
he kept his voice also at a whisper to match her own. "That's pretty awesome."

He slowly began to close his book and slid it to the side and stacked up the library books into one pile and left his Bible in another. The book stacking was so he could devote attention to his tablemate.

The boy, who was definitely not a first year or a human for that matter. He had indeed confirmed that he was a dhapmir. I had never met other dhapmirs before, most of them just lie and I just lie back. I didn’t know what to say back to him, so I said nothing.

The boy, Simon stacked up his books leaving one on top of a journal in a separate stack. The other stack, on the other side was obviously school books and library books. “What’s that?”I asked, gesturing to the fat book and journal. It was set at an angle so I could not see the cover and title. Crap. I sound like a curious little child. Maybe even a toddler.I knew it was kind of rude to ask questions like that, but I was so curious.

I looked up at the clock, checking the time, so we wouldn’t miss dinner. “So… What are you working on?” I asked, not knowing what else to ask. “Also what house are you in? What year?” I asked, trying my best to keep my voice at a whisper. Crap. I sound like a curious little child. Maybe even a toddler. I suddenly knew exactly what to ask.

Hushed library talk with @Charlie Jacobsen

He had a hard time shaking her first question, so he didn't put any overthought into the second. A dhampir too? She said it so easily like it was something she could just talk about in any sort of conversation. Wasn't she a little conservative at who she shared that with? What signs gave him away so immediately? Simon searched her, as if going to find the answer written upon her face.

He looked down to the book as she motioned to it. It had some gold on the edges of the pages so was much more fancier than the books there from the Hogwarts Library. "Oh, I was doing some reading before sadly remembering I had an essay due. Had to push it aside for a moment. Priorities and all. Schoolwork is temporary but faith is forever," he said with a cheesy smile as he slid the Bible out for her to see. "It's my favorite book." Although it was more a guide than a book.

"Third Year Hufflepuff. What about you? Tell me a bit about yourself."
He figured her for a first year because he didn't recognize her yet, but was always happy to meet a new friend - especially one that claimed to be a dhampir.

Simon was looking at me, like what? How did she know? I chuckled. “Simon, did you ever notice how pale you are? I think you are paler than me. Or maybe even my dad who is a full vampire. That and the first time you opened your mouth, I see your fang gaps. I said keeping my voice extra low as I said fang gaps.

He had homework. Of course. School had been in session for a month now and I had done a suprisingly good job keeping up with my homework. Faith is forever. that was what I heard. “Like Jesus?” I asked looking at the Bible he had pushed my way.

I wasn’t a religious person, but my mum made us go to church every Christmas. I never really actually thought that Jesus was real, I just thought that he was made up. We went to church, sang the hymns or whatever they are called, and I just sat there zoning out while they read the Bible. I didn’t really believe in Jesus.

A third year! Wow. “First year Ravenclaw. I live in Dublin Ireland. I play hockey. Or… played.” I said, my mood dropping as I said it.

Hushed talk with @Charlie Jacobsen

Simon sighed. It wasn't an irritated sort of sigh and it wasn't aimed at the girl at all. It was more a frustrated sigh and to himself for being the way he was being right now with their interaction. He was being short with the girl and almost as if he were lying and all she was trying to do was help him.

You see, he wasn't trying to toy with her. The truth of it all was that Simon wasn't really out with his dhampir nature and only a handful of students at Hogwarts officially knew. There was most likely several that also suspected it. Leave it to another dhampir to spot a dhampir though. It was time to come clean.

"Charlie," his voice was low as well but calm. He looked to her apologetically and hoped she wasn't angry with him for how he first behaved. "I inherit it from my father's side, yes." He whispered. "I've recently begun to have some contact with him and hope to learn more all that." And it made him terribly interested to know her family background but he wasn't sure the Library was the place to share such information. Sure, they were using hushed voices, but they were also in the quiet confounds of a space where hushed voices were some of the only sounds to be heard.

"I'd love to hear your family story, sometime. Oh, wait! Hey! I played hockey, too!" he said and leaned forward, brightening up at the mention of that. "We should totally get a pickup game here when the lake freezes over."

The act of leaning forward in his excitement to learn that she played hockey bumped his quill into his Bible and he quickly defended it from getting any ink on it. But that brought him back to the Bible. "Yea, Jesus, our Lord and Savior," he answered. He couldn't quite gather if she seemed not knowledgeable of it or was knowledgeable of it but skeptical of believing in it. "I'm a child of God," he quoted one Biblical verse but then continued on normally, "and I try my best to serve others and do good in this world."

After I told Simon that I knew he was a dhaphmir, he was quiet. It was almost like he wouldn’t admit that he was a dhaphmir. I knew that feeling.

Back in September, I had lied to this older girl in Ravenclaw named Bailey, but she still thought I was a wizard born. Me and Bailey were dorm mates and it would totally ruin our relationship if I told her the truth. And I didn’t want that. I also didn’t want her to find out by herself and get mad at me, but that wasn’t really her personality.

Simon told me that he inherits it from his fathers side. Same. “Me too. But my dad has preferences in muggle women, so that’s where he’s at now,” I said extra quietly, looking at the floor. “He’s the worst.”I mean he’s a bitch. “At least mum’s nice. I have a sister, also a Dhaphmir.” I finished. I had no idea what else to say.

Simon plays hockey too! “A pick up game would be great. I actually have my skates and stick, and I bet I brought a puck somewhere. Even if it’s just you and me, it would be fun. We might have to teach some skating lessons though,” I said thinking back to what I promised Bailey.

Simon believed? Welp he's the first believer I know, I thought. He’s a child of God. I didn’t know what to say. My mum had given me so many different things that always ended up getting shoved under the bed. A bible, journal, necklace and bracelet. I had no idea why but all of those things had ended up in my trunk. My mind instantly flashed to mum. Some how she knew I would need it. And I did.

Talk with fellow dhampir, @Charlie Jacobsen

"You could borrow it sometime if you'd like," he said of his Bible, which - was huge. Charlie Jacobsen wouldn't know it, but those bound pages was a best friend to him and something he carried with him absolutely everywhere. It was his guidance when he needed help, his advice for when he needed some, his past and his future all in one. It had been highlighted and there were notes everywhere within the margins and it would look like something of a fellow Ravenclaw's doing.

Simon couldn't deny the temptation to talk to a fellow dhampir about dhampir-stuff and he looked around to see there wasn't anyone within earshot of where they sat so they had some privacy. "I'm sorry to hear that your father is the worst. Mine is....well, I'm still trying to recently learn what mine is. We have a very new and very distance relationship." Could he even really call it a relationship?

"What is he like though? I mean, I really want to start understanding this vampire part." Maybe he yearned for that sort of understanding as much as Charlie did this world of religion.

Maybe they could help each other understand - after all, it seemed she knew of her vampire father. Maybe. Perhaps. It could be that the reason he was the worst was because he was never around.

Simon offered to let me borrow his bible. “Eh that’s alright. My mum packed me mine that she got me awhile back. I never actually used it except for flattening papers, but maybe this time I’ll actually try really using it.” I whispered. I actually considered pulling it out of my trunk, but I didn’t know.

Simon nervously glanced around, keying in that he didn’t like talking about this in public. He also probably kept his dhapmir-ness to himself like me. It was just easier that way. It made it so I didn’t have to explain that dhapmirs weren’t bad or evil. Which we weren’t. At all.

Simon started talking about his father, which I assumed was the dhapmir side of him. He mention a distant relationship, which I was familiar with. “Some times a distant relationship is alright. But if you want to get to know him you should.” I said solemnly.

Simon asked what my dad was like. “Well, he’s even paler than you and has blood red eyes. Reder than a dhapmir with red eyes. Fangs of course, and goes hunting often. Sunlight is worse on them than us of course. But yeah.” I summarized. I didn’t really know what else to do, so my eyes began wandering and flicked towards the stack of homework I had. I knew that I really should be doing it and getting it done so didn’t have to do it last minute, but it was so fun talking to Simon. I was glad to have someone to relate to, that I wasn’t related to.

Dhampir talk is difficult when in such a large room, even with @Charlie Jacobsen

Goes hunting often. Simon tried to figure out what the girl meant by that. Surely it could mean like the sport that the royals used to do in teams, going out on a hunting day with their rifles to gain some sort of game of wild animal. But Charlie's father was a vampire and they were talking about aspects of being a vampire, so therefore, did hunting mean for blood? Human blood? Animal blood?

Simon wondered if vampires even had actual hobbies. Would there be a vampire out there who played hockey? Who enjoyed writing or reading? Who had faith like him? His father's letters and brief communication had alluded to that of strong faith.

"You'll have to forgive me for my apprehension. I haven't met too many like us and I haven't met very many that know about me in that respect so it's kind of difficult to talk about, especially here when it's so quiet and you don't know who's prying. Why don't we meet up again soon, alone. Maybe you can read some of that Bible of yours and we can discuss it?"

Almost like a study session. That seemed like something that might entice a Ravenclaw.
