September 12TH, Break between Lessons
@Alec Mason @Flash Holmwood @Jack Burnett
The last few minutes before the breaks were usually like the calm before a storm. The last few moments of quiet in which many had already stopped paying attention to their teachers and were instead counting down the seconds, ready to throw their already packed bags over their shoulders and leave the classroom, preferably before the corridors were crowded.

It was that precise atmosphere in the History Classroom in which a group of fourth years were sitting now. History was especially prune to this behavior, as this particular class only taught few spells and was therefore less known for holding its students' interest. The general mood did not reach the last row, where a young Slytherin girl and Gryffindor boy were sitting. Neither of them had paid much attention to the lesson today.

Opeila was distressed, more than ever. Before the lesson she had fallen asleep while leaning against the wall, but the short nap had done nothing to help the tiredness that seemed to fill her limbs and make her eyelids feel heavy. It was nothing Opeila wasn't used to anymore, but it was so, so bothersome. She slept hours and hours every night and day and yet had often been the most tired in class during the last week.

Well, she knew by now that the tiredness was not normal. It wasn't a sickness either, no, it was all her own fault. Opeila had agreed to something several months ago, agreed to help Jack Burnett to cure her friend Flash. What else could she have done? She owed Flash and Opeila knew it, but that was not even the reason. She knew that she would have said yes in a heartbeat if it had been Jack in Flash's place. Or Willow. Or... Wyatt.

There was no denying that she had been too arrogant in that moment. That she had said big sounding words, feeling almost a bit heroic even, talking about sacrifice and trades and still agreeing to it. As if she had been prepared. Opeila had thought that she was back then, but nothing had prepared her for this feeling of fear and powerlessness that had overcome her at the realization of the changes that had happened to her. And the fact that there was no stopping it.

Hearing Alec's confession that he was the second part of the ritual had made Opeila feel sick to her stomach, which was the reason for her to count the minutes until the end of class. Why did that information make her panic? Was it fear for Alec? The feeling of guilt? Opeila had underestimated the feeling of responsibility greatly. How often had she wondered if she was doing the right thing?

After her little fauxpas with Vladimir Athanatos in her first year, Opeila had generally overthought her actions a lot, but this was different. She felt like this decision she had made was either bad or worse. There was no good outcome, someone would pay. Opeila had only wanted to make sure that it was not Flash, but did she want it to be Alec? Certainly not.

The minute the lesson was over, Opeila shot off her chair and grabbed her bag. "I need to go- I have to- See you later.", was the goodbye Alec would get before the young Slytherin would rush out o the classroom. She felt sick. She felt dizzy. She was sure she would throw up, so her feet would carry her straight towards the next bathroom. Or- were planning to at least.

Opeila stopped in the middle of the corridor, causing a few kids to run into her back. She stumbled forward and caught her balance, pressed her eyes shot for a moment. The dizziness wouldn't go away, instead it would grow, get stronger. Suddenly her whole body seemed to tingle. Opeila's breath got faster as she looked around, for a familiar face. Something was wrong- more wrong than usual even.

Suddenly she didn't feel like she would throw up anymore- the feeling that had replaced it was much scarier. It was as if her legs quit service. The terror made tears assemble in Opeila's eyes and soon stream down her cheeks. Pale as a ghost she would turn around again, looking at the kids who walked toward her, past her.

Out of options, Opeila grabbed the sleeve of the nearest person- a kid around her age, third year at youngest, unable to even recognize them- were they known or unknown? Friend or stranger? "Help me" The word left her mouth as a whimper, her eyes were widened. She really did have to look like a crazy person- a terrified crazy person. "Please, get help!" Her voice was so high all of a sudden... "I think I-"

Opeila would not get to tell the student what she thought. Her body stiffened, her grip around the other students' sleeve loosened. The green eyes turned upwards, into her own skull, then fell shut.
And like a puppet who's strings had been cut, Opeila would fall sideways, onto the cold hard stone.
OOC Note: Opeila has dropped unconscious! Feel free to be a bystander, anyone between 3rd and 5th year feel free to take the role of the person who Opeila grabbed by the sleeve, I deliberately kept that one vague.

Sirin was trying to enjoy herself, trying to NOT get into any trouble. Yet, she found herself observing an older girl drop unconscious. Why had Sirin not even bat an eye? It wasn't that she didn't care, Sirin just didn't want to aggravate the situation. Besides, she knew better than to intervene in the business of the higher years. Although, this girl looked familiar. Was it the older slytherin prefect she'd met at the great lakes, playing the "spin the bottle" game? Indeed it was. Sirin simply stood, watching in astonishment. Perhaps it was sheer terror that caused her to become rooted to the ground. Petrified, she wondered: what had happened? Should I call for help? Someone had grabbed the girl as she fell, so Sirin didn't worry. If these kids had gotten into some sort of scuffle, Sirin didn't want to be involved, and she definitely did not want detention for interacting with anyone. All her life she'd been told not to be a bystander, but today, she found herself doing just that. What had happened to her? Silently, Sirin prayed for the girl. This Slytherin looked like a nice person anyways, and Sirin wished her a swift recovery before silently sidling into a corner to watch the drama unfold.

Defence Against The Dark Arts wasn't Lucia's best class, although that wasn't unusual. Most of her grades lay far below her Outstanding in Astronomy, but she was doing her best to rectify that. No, she hadn't actually gone up yet... but she hadn't slipped down either! And maybe Lucia wasn't entirely sure what the professor had actually been talking about in the DADA lesson she'd just left, but that was a problem which was easily fixed. She just had to... read her textbook! And make notes! After all, she had her fancy new revision notebooks now, from that errand at the start of the year. Maybe she could-

But her academic imaginings were cut short by an unexpected grab on her arm. Lucia spun around, taking in the sight before her: a girl, her own age, tears flooding over her cheeks and dripping off her nose [@Opeila Winters ]. She looked vaguely recognisable, but Lucia couldn't dwell on where she'd seen the girl before because she spoke, quietly, voice trembling as though a breeze would cause her to topple over. "I-" What could she do here? Clearly, the brunette was correct in that she needed help, but who from? And should Lucia even leave her alone in this state? What was the protocol for this?

And then the girl swayed against her. Loosened her grip. Fell... The world seemed to slow down as Lucia stood there, frozen in shock. She'd seen people collapse before, of course - she was a duellist after all - but never like this. Never, ever like this. Before she even knew what she was doing, her wand was in her hand, and she was pointing at the ground, and - "Spongify!" - but she missed, and there was a sickening thud as the brunette's head hit the floor, and there were noises all around her that Lucia couldn't differentiate, and the only thing she could focus on was that this girl, this girl had just collapsed, and what if she was dead? What if Lucia had missed her chance to help?

Lucia dropped to her knees beside the girl and wished she'd taken first aid classes. How did you check for pulse? There was a point on the neck! Lucia pulled the girl's head onto her lap and reached out with two fingers, searching her neck for a pulse. For a moment, nothing. But then- "There!" The girl was alive after all! Now- now what? Now she needed help. Lucia reached for her wand, which had clattered to the floor, and pointed it up at the ceiling. "PERICULUM!" Casting spells outside of class was theoretically against the rules, but the explosion of red sparks would hopefully draw a staff member to the scene. "Need- need the nurse! YOU!" Lucia pointed desperately at a small girl (a first year?) who was standing on the edge of the crowd [@Sirin Lu]. "GO GET THE NURSE!"

It was time for lunch!

One of the best parts of the day in Kim's opinion and he was quickly heading towards the great hall area.

Pausing to allow people to go around him, as he preferred to avoid crowds, Kim stopped briefly to let a large group go ahead. It was around this time that his wandering blue eyes caught sight of a familiar face. Opeila Winters. He'd seen her around before from time to time and had even interacted with her earlier that month. The first time he'd spoken with her had been at the Spin the Bottle game Ali had put together. The second time had been at the Gryffindor table inside the Great Hall. This would be the third time. But the girl seemed a little bit off today to him.

Kim's brow furrowed. He took a step towards her but that was when she suddenly turned to grab the sleeve of someone next to her and promptly fell over. Okay, something was wrong, his instincts had been right before. Kim quickly ran over to where Opeila and the other girl were. Ah, it was Lucia. As Lucia sent up the Red Sparks Charm for help, Kim remained with the two girls. He quickly took charge of the situation and moved to protect the two from curious onlookers. The two needed space, not to be crowded around by various people. A first year was close nearby.

He nodded when Lucia told her to go get the school nurse.

"Polonius Frogge is the school nurse's name. Go get him now! If you don't know where it is, just ask someone on your way! Hurry! I have to stay and protect the girls from getting crowded around too much." Kim told her and waited for Sirin to go get the person in question. Hopefully nothing too bad had happened to Opeila. Although Kim didn't know her well, he didn't want anything bad to take place. Especially after the events that had taken place at Hogwarts a few years ago. This was just not what they needed to have happen at the school.

Turning back to Lucia and the fallen Opeila, Kim let his eyes flicker over them. Lucia seemed relatively fine but Opeila seemed as if she'd lost consciousness. "How is she?" Kim asked as he made sure no one else could come over and try and crowd around them. Obviously there would be various onlookers but as long as they didn't crowd around and all try to 'help' they should be good until the new school nurse arrived to help. Hopefully, Sirin would be able to find the nurse within a short period of time. She was new to the school but maybe luck would be with them.

Sirin stood petrified. Had that girl just spoken to her? To Sirin, of all people? Sirin barely knew her way around the school, and this girl had entrusted the duty of getting help to a measly, panicked first year. Sirin didn't quite know how to react. Couldn't she just stay and help? Maybe, she could help perform CPR or something other than trying to find the nurse's office. Of course, Sirin did know where the office was, she just wasn't sure if she could make it in time.
"Isn't there anything else I can do? Maybe I could help with something else....?"
Then, another boy named Kim also instructed her to find the nurse. It looked like she really had no choice--she had to do something. She knew this girl and Kim wouldn't allow her to stay and mindlessly try to save the other Slytherin girl. She had to get Nurse Frogge.
"N-nevermind, I'll go get the nurse."
With that, Sirin dashed down the corridor, her braided purple hair flying behind her. As she ran, she prayed for courage to be with her, and for all the other kids down that corridor to stay safe.

Alec had been watching Opeila rather closely since the day they had met to work on their Muggle Studies project. He had counted on seeing her in History of Magic today, she looked worse for ware than before. The way she bounded out of her chair the second class ended, looking as if she had been counting the seconds. She scurried away like a wounded animal, she had wanted to leave quickly he had a feeling he knew why. Neither of the two had paid attention to the lesson, for better or worse. Opeila looked unwell in a way he found hard to describe, you could tell when you looked at her that something wasn't right. She had gotten so much worse than when he had seen her to work on a project together. It was bad. He was concerned. She needed help, but from who? He certainly was no healer, he wasn't sure how she felt about trying to explain this away to a healer either. The truth would have benefited her, they would have had to believe her right? The way everything seemed to fall into place in their conversation. What Opeila had found herself apart of, facts tying together one by one that suddenly he found hard to ignore. Here Opeila was, going on about details, ones eerily similar to the situation he had been put in with Jack.

The girl as sick as she was in the moment had barely put emphasis on herself, instead focused on finding and informing somebody else, the other person apart of the ritual as to what was happening to her. Perhaps as a warning, if something this bad was happening to her, who is to say what is happening to anybody else involved. When Alec put it all together, he wasn't worried, not for himself. Alec didn't believe a single person could be cursed twice at the same time, at some point your reaching and it has to be double negatives. He wanted to calm her nerves, she deserved to know, he wasn't going to keep information from her- Despite the fact of his fear, worry that she would scurry off quickly in the exact way she had. He told her, she left. Alec didn't regret telling her.

Opeila's sudden take of leave had left Alec uneasy. He'd always been bothered when others took of, when a conversation hadn't ended when an important event went unresolved. Still he held himself back and didn't go after her. She needed time to absorb the information, that was all. Him going after her would not solve anything. Alec gathered his things and walked out, making his way through corridors to get to his next class.

A shaky breath was released from Alec's lips as he walked into the corridor, walked up the sight of Opeila muttering rushed word, and just as quickly as he had happened upon the sight he would witness Opeila falling to the ground. "Bloody hell." He had seen the way everything was quickly made a scene shouting from some kids to go get the nurse. The hushed rushed murmurs that suddenly filled the corridor. Older students yelling at a first year to get the nurse. It was irresponsible. Of course at the sight of her falling down, Alec had rushed over.

The students that had crowded around her. None of them understood. They didn't know what he knew- At the thought of what she had said, he worry of falling asleep and never waking up he almost felt at a loss for breath. Was this it? What now? At seeing the young first year run off Alec spoke. “There are better ways to deal with that in an emergency situation.” He replied offhandedly, commenting on the way they had treated the first year as his eyes focused in on Opeila.

Alec was left with certain information now, and a choice. What to do, what he could say when the nurse arrived. He wasn't giving the information out in a setting like this, where it would be spread around. That said, he was going to have to tell the nurse eventually, if somebody else didn't come out with the information. “She's going to be fine, just give her some space, please.” The other people closest to her were making a big deal out of the situation, they were freaking out, that wasn't good. He didn't know much of what to say or do right now- Thus he let fate be the judge of whatever it may as he waited.

Eyes on Opeila, Alec's mind wandered. This was Jack's fault. He did this Opeila no matter her accepting giving her blood would have come at a price. If the nurse couldn't fix this... If the nurse couldn't help her not be sick make sure she'd actually wake up; then Jack would have to fix this.

It hadn't come out of nowhere.

Kim had noticed Opeila had been feeling a bit under the weather for awhile now. But he hadn't thought much of it.

After all, he didn't really know her that well, they'd shared some time together but he wouldn't consider her to be a friend of his. Therefore, when he'd seen her behave 'oddly', he'd thought something was bothering her. But he wasn't entirely sure what it was. Maybe school work, club activities or perhaps something personal was the reason. Regardless, he hadn't really approached her and asked for details. But he'd made a mental note of it and kept an eye on her whenever he happened to see the girl around the same areas he was. Kim had chanced upon the scene now.

The way she'd passed out... it wasn't normal. Kim took matters into his own hands as students crowded around Opeila and Lucia. He gently but firmly pushed them backward to give the girls some space. Another familiar face showed up but this time Kim was glad to see him. The white haired boy let Alec take care of things, while he kept the others at bay, giving the older students some room. Glancing back over at Alec, Kim's brow furrowed. There was something off about Alec too. What was it? He couldn't quite place it but he was getting some kind of weird feeling.

As if Alec knew more than he was letting on.

Perhaps it was just him but Alec seemed to not be as worried about Opeila's situation.

Scratch that, he did seem worried but not in the same way Kim and Lucia had been. Even the first year, if he remembered right her name had been Sirin, had given him the feeling of a normal reaction. But Alec... he seemed both worried and angry at the same time. Kim was a very perceptive person when it came to anything and anyone other than himself and tended to pick up on things quite fast. Sure, he could be mistaken, but his instincts hadn't failed him before. He wasn't sure what it was but Alec was different from them. Did he know or suspect something?

No words were spoken and for now Kim merely watched them and kept the other students at bay.

Sirin frantically dashed back down the corridor. How long had it been since she was instructed to fetch the nurse? Five minutes? Ten minutes? She hoped that she hadn't been too late. When Sirin returned to the scene, she found another older boy had joined the crowd. Perfect--more intimidating older students. Nurse Frogge followed closely behind Sirin, as he had agreed to come with Sirin to address this dilemma. The traumatized first year had arrived at the office trembling and panting---she could barely get through one sentence without stuttering. Of course, the nurse was here; that was all that mattered. The Slytherin girl would get the help she needed, and Sirin could finally calm down. Sirin waved to the other kids to get their attention.
"N-nurse Frogge is here! Guys! Is she okay..?"
Sirin nervously asked the older students. Though she'd never really gotten to know this girl, Sirin still felt concern for her. Her mind raced with questions. What happened? Will she live? Am I too late? By now, a crowd had gathered, and if the situation weren't so severe, Sirin would have enjoyed the company of many others.

From her spot on the floor with the brunette, Lucia wasn't sure who had approached her until she heard him speak. What was his name? Kit, or something? "Thank you..." she directed to the first year who'd gone to find the nurse [@Sirin Liu], then answered Kit [@Kim Sato]'s question. "She's... alive." That was the best that Lucia could give - she was by no means a health expert and her knowledge only really went as far as checking the pulse. It was strange - if Lucia hadn't seen the other girl collapse, she might have assumed she was sleeping.

Another boy [@Alec Mason]. One whom Lucia didn't know this time, saying something about how Lucia had handled the situation. Lucia tensed up. "I... I didn't know what else to do," she murmured. She wasn't like Eun-ji. She wasn't brave and selfless. This was the first 'emergency situation' she'd really been in (not including the balls where she'd frozen still rather than do anything helpful) and she didn't know what to do. When the boy spoke again, Lucia paused. His words sounded like something an adult would say to a small child to make them calm down. "...how do you know?" Suddenly realising that the brunette's head was still in Lucia's lap, Lucia moved her so she was lying on the floor again. What was the best position for an unconscious person to be? Lucia didn't know. Wasn't this the sort of thing Lucia should know?

The sound of the first year's footsteps as she ran back along the corridor was music to Lucia's ears. "Thank Merlin." The girl's next question, though... "I don't know," Lucia admitted, voice so quiet it could only just be heard over the rumbles of the crowd of students who'd been drawn to the scene of the... of the what? The way the brunette had clutched at Lucia was like this wasn't a one-off accident: she'd known it was coming. But what was it?

When she saw Nurse Frogge [@Polonius Frogge], Lucia would move a little away from the brunette so the nurse could do whatever he needed to do. "She- she just came up to me, and she grabbed my arm, and she said- she said she needed help, and I had to go get help, and then she just... collapsed. And I checked her pulse and I think she's still alive, but she hit her head on the floor and-" Why hadn't Lucia thought to check for a bruise after the girl's nasty fall. "I didn't know what to do..."

House Colours: Slytherin
Calming Presence in Effect
Cat's Grace d100 (75+): Both Piérre (31) & Figaro (26) are Visible
Piérre had been rigging up the trappings of his next prank with a big smile on his face, his loyal companion Figaro wrapped about his shoulders. This one in part was reliant on several people being around in close proximity, as the boy had in his possession yet another messy cauldron of unknown goopage that he had somehow created in potions and that he had preserved for the cause of causing mischief and magical mayhem. This was a trick that he had performed earlier in the year, only two weeks ago, in fact; one where he had had a duel with one of the other Gryffindor duelists, and while that trick had not come to total fruition, perhaps now he would have a chance to make good on the idea and follow through with his plans of giving other people the most beautiful hairstyle they had ever experienced.

Trying to balance his size 2 cauldron between two suits of armor, Piérre glanced around the area that was by now filled with kids of all sorts and demeanors, and despite himself, Piérre found himself curious as to what they really felt beyond their exteriors. From his personal experience, he knew that often those with the most impressive exteriors were the same ones with a storm beneath the surface; and storms could be so pretty when observed or when within. Figaro stretched a bit around his shoulders and Piérre smiled to his little familiar. They had become quite close when compared to human counterparts; with Piérre having inadvertently made himself a hermit of his eccentricities' designs. Nowadays it seemed that most of his human interactions came from his pranks and the subsequent elicited reactions of those that he had tricked.

So when a rabble started formulating a few meters away from where he had set up shop, of course the boy's keen eye noticed and naturally gravitated towards the crowd; the Jester had an eye for sensing patterns in people, and social psychology was something that he was keen on picking up and filing away for his use at a later time. The question now was; what was causing the congregation.

Leaving his cauldron where it was-- balanced dangerously between two suits of armor that could spill at a moment's notice if bumped into-- the boy crept in towards the commotion, utilizing the bodies of the crowd to best manipulate his steps and twisting his own body so that he slipped between even the smallest gaps between people and their accessories. If the boy was any sort of pickpocket, he would have likely been able to lift more than a few items out of the unsecured bags being held by the gaggle of bystanders.

As it were, though, the boy lurked just short of the interior of what appeared to be the source of commotion, crouching low in his Slytherin uniform so that he could peer between the legs of those who were taller than he; a girl entirely dead to the world, being attended to by Kim, Alec, and another dark-haired girl, while another small girl ran off with the promise of attracting the attention of the nurse. Green eyes watched all of this quietly, flicking back and forth as he tried to put pieces together in his head. This was quickly becoming a bystander situation, with himself being one of the said bystanders... but this was most curious, wasn't it?

He tried to observe the condition of the unconscious girl from the distance scouring her form for any tells of what could have induced her current state of affairs. She didn't look hurt (other than maybe being banged up from the fall), so it wasn't the cause of a fight or a scuffle (which Piérre would have easily noticed from his position above the crowd in the first place). Had it just been the cause of low iron or blood pressure? Strange, since the wizarding world had ways to deal with those sorts of things. No spell sound had been cast from what Piérre had heard, nor had a noticeable light been produced that would have been a dead giveaway of a stunning spell or a flipendo that could have knocked her out. The only thing had been that bright red periculum, which had likely been the source of attraction for most of the people that had gathered.

She only looked pale as a sheet. It was as if she had just... silently collapsed?

How queer.

Like a silent predator, he would keep watching... not daring to draw too close. His presence would only be a distraction, and he would continue to float around the outskirts, always trying to get to an advantageous position so that he could really see the entire drama unfold.

Jesters do oft prove prophets. 𓀚
