One Friend to Another
Mina walks down the long train, trying to find an empty compartment to take over and save for her fried, Aisa, who was also going to be coming to Hogwarts. She looks into each room she passes and finds at least two or three people in each of them, some already with groups of people. She sighs and keeps walking further to the back. She starts to come across cars with only one or two people, then just one person. She finally finds an empty one and comendears it for her friends to join her. She réalisés almost no one comes back here and she smiles, it’ll most likely be quiet and she probably won’t have to chase anyone off for trying to come into the room.
She sits back, resting her head back against the seat and relaxes, waiting for Aisa to get there already. She pulls out her book and starts to read, getting comfortable and kicking her feet up on the seat across from her. She looks down at her shoes, her basic black boots, old and beaten up, but so comfortable. She sighs and looks down at her black robes, the school really needed to update their clothing styles, the robes were comfortable, yes, but jeans and a t-shirt wear also just as comfortable.
She sighs and looks back to her book, then her watch, already five minuets in and no Aisa, she huffs and glowers at the door to the compartment. Aisa said she would find her, she hadn’t seen Aisa in any of the other cars, so she had kept walking. Had she missed her friend? Where was she, it had been a month since they had last seen each other and MIna was desperate to see her friend.

Eli waved to his parents, “Bye mum, bye dad…” Eli was quiet uncertain that he wanted to get on the train, he hated large crowds and being around so many people for the first time, it made him feel sick. His parents had reassured him everything would be alright, “You are a smart boy…you’ll do great dear.” Eli’s mother said softly. Eli nodded. Yeah, I’ll be fine… Eli’s father smiled, “I’m so proud of you. Have fun son.” Eli smiled and nodded, hugging his parents once more. “I’ll miss you…” His mother sniffed, pulling out a handkerchief, “Oh my boy, so grown up.” Eli smiled and grabbed his trunk, walking to the train. He was just going to try to look ahead, avoid eye contact, and find a car that was empty. Sounds like a plan. Eli gulped, walking on the train, looking ahead. Every car he passed was full, containing 4 or 5 people chatting and laughing loudly. Eli pressed on, worried he would never find a seat. He started seeing less and less people in cars, but 2 or 3 wasn’t enough. He reached a car with only one person in there, a girl with her feet propped up on the seat, reading. He looked around, questioning if he should just keep going or not. “Um…excuse me…? May I sit here?” He asked quietly.

Mina looks up at the sound of a voice and opens her mouth to shoo the person away if it wasn’t Aisa. It wasn’t and she tilts her head, looking him up and down noting his clothes, and the rest of his appearance, and shrugs, “Uh, yeah, whatever. I don’t care. Not like Aisa’s coming anyways. The train is about to leave the station, you’ll need somewhere to sit.” She looks away from the boy and looks back at her book, not dropping her feet, and giving the boy minimum room to sit, she knew she was probably boy coming off as rude, but she didn’t really care, if he wanted to sit here, he could deal with the person already occupying the compartment.
She looks up from her book a few moments later, “Anyways, I’m Mina. Mina Starr. What’s you’re name? What house are you hoping to get? Are you wizard or muggle born? How long have you known about magic?” Mina looks directly at the boy, asking the questions rapid fire, her British accent prominent. She smiles, still not moving her feet as she waves him into the compartment. She tilts her head, curiosity in her gaze as she looks at him, waiting for him to answer.

Eli looked at her, stunned, “Um…alright…well.” He put up his trunk and sat down. “One, I’m Eli Jonson, two, I don’t really care what house I get, three, I’m wizard born, and four, I’ve known magic all my life.” He bounced his leg anxiously, “Do I know you? You seem familiar?” His thick Irish accent showed he had mostly lived in Ireland all his life. She sure is a pistol…she talks so fast I hardly understand a word she’s saying… Eli looked at the book and smiled, “You like to read? What book is that?” Even though Eli was exited that he fond someone who appears to like books as much as he did, he was still quiet, even formal sounding. Eli had always tried to remain respectful to everyone, even if they were younger than him. It was a trait his parents and other adults adored. “I’m uh…reading a new book myself, it’s about dragons. It’s only for entertainment, it’s not factual, but it’s still a good book.” Eli smiled softly at the girl, hoping he didn’t come off as intrusive, “I apologize I’ll stop asking questions now. I didn’t mean to bombard you.” He muttered, setting his hands in his lap. Oh now you’ve done it…she probably think you’re weird. Nice going.

Mina pauses, looking at the boy, “Nice to meet you Eli. Oh. . . I hope I get Ravenclaw. So am I. And so have I.” She replies, “Um. . .” She looks him up and down gain, “Maybe. You seem familiar as well.” She smiles to herself, He. . . Answered all my questions. . . In order. Almost no one can do that. . .
She looks down at the book in her hands, “Yes, I read. It’s one of the school books, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” She smiles, happy to be asked about her book, even if it was a school book. She thought it was smart to smart reading them before class starts.“Cool, that sounds interesting.” She keeps her feet up, even it she was taking up more space than necessary, even if it made the already small compartment mode cramped, she didn’t really care, “Man, relax, it’s fine, I don’t care if you ask questions.”
She looks at him, smiling slightly and she closes her book, setting oit down beside her, ready to give her full attention to the boy. SHe knew her answers were still rapid fire and her accent still thick.

Eli smiled at the girl, “Oh, that’s a smart idea, getting caught up on schoolwork…” He looked at his hands, fidgeting with his several rings, it was Eli’s first time to Hogwarts, being a year one seemed intimidating. Inside his mind, he knew he was just trying to find a friend… “Is this your first time? Coming to Hogwarts I mean…” He instantly regretted his question, I worded that wrong I just know it, just wait. He looked out the window, “The scenery is so beautiful. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone had painted it before. I sure would…” Eli smiled brightly, “Do you like art yourself? Like any kind? Writing, music, or visual? Oh I’m asking too many questions at once again aren't I?” He chuckled softly. “I’m honestly surprised I was contacted by Hogwarts, and seeing all those people…it’s amazing, yet…well overwhelming. I was around so many muggles before I entered platform 9 and 3/4. I’m honestly used to magic and bizarre things like that.” He smiled softly, “Oh, by the way, are you excited to go to Hogwarts as well?” That’s just a silly question, how am I even being so social? I didn’t even drink any coffee. Am I just desperate? Eli hummed. “I apologize, I shouldn’t be nosy in your business.” He looked back at his hands.

Mina listens and gives her answers rapid fire, not even checking the speed at which she had answered, “Yes, oh God, yes it is, if had the skill, ( totally would draw it! Of course, who doesn’t? It’s life, I have to say writing and music are my jam though. Oh, no you’re not, don’t worry about it. I love the questions.” Mina was growing to like this boy, and decided she’d drop her feet and give him more space so he wasn’t mushed up against the wall.
She tilts her head, “Of course I’m excited, I look forward to going to Hogwarts, though I didn’t really know much about it until I got my letter.”
“Don’t be sorry, I don’t mind answering your questions, as I’ve said already. You seem like a pretty nice guy, so I’ll be nice to you. It’s only fair.” She thought she was being fair, be nice to her and she’d be nice back, be a butt head to her and she’d be a butt head right back. She was an honest person and would only say what the truth was, no matter how cruel it could be. Sometimes she hated speaking the truth and wished she could only have the strength to lie, but that would only cause more problems.

Eli smiled softly at the girl, “Well thank you…you are very sweet.” He got a bit more comfortable, scooting over in the seat slightly so he wasn’t pressed up against the wall. He leaned back slightly, glancing out the window. “This…this is like a dream, going to Hogwarts…my parents went as well, and I just feel…honestly a feel honored.” He huffed a laugh. “I used to ask my parents all about Hogwarts, what it was like, if it was fun or dangerous…I was completely in love with the idea of going to a school with millions of kids just like me.” He smiled brightly, reminiscent of the times when he was a child, being tucked into bed and begging his parents to tell him their stories of their time at Hogwarts. He looked at her, smiling. “I’m honestly wondering what the dorms are like, my parents said they were absolutely amazing…magical is what my mom described.” He chuckled. “Did your parents go to Hogwarts? I’ve heard some kids say their parents didn’t go…or they got expelled or something. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said that, that was probably rude.” He rested his hands in his lap politely, straightening his back slightly.

Mina paused, “Sweet?” She laughs, tipping her head back slightly, “Sorry. . . But no one’s ever described me as sweet, much less very sweet.” She smiles, “I’ll take it though. . . It’s nice to hear something positive about me.” She shifts, pressing her back into the window and putting he feet on the seat, meeting the gaze of someone peering into the compartment and glowering them, sending the person off to look for a different compartment.
She looks back at Eli, “So, your. . . What, Irish?” She notes his brown hair, he didn’t look Irish, he didn’t have the light hair and blue eyes, well, sorta, she notes the peculiar different shade of eye color, one blue and the other a draw brown, but his accent gave him away as Irish.
She smiles and leans her head back against the window, waiting for the train to leave the station. Maybe once she was done talking to the boy, she could take a nap. Now that she was thinking about it, a nap sounded very nice at the moment. She had been up at the crack of dawn to Nate pulling her hair and telling her Mum wanted her up and out of bed. She has snapped at her brother, telling him off for pulling her hair and gotten up to get ready for the day.

Eli paused for a moment, blinking, he then smiled softly, “Well…you are a very nice girl, it’s clear you have standers and are definitely not afraid to say what’s on your mind. Honestly that shows courage. What I’m concerned about is the part of you saying ‘it’s nice to hear something positive about me’ like no one has ever complemented you before.” He sighs softly, leaning back in the seat. “Anyway…yes, I’m Irish. Believe it or not I have my mothers, and fathers eyes. My father has blue eyes, and my mother has brown. I guess I got lucky in the gene pool.” He chuckled softly, “Not all people from Ireland have red or light brown hair and bright blue or green eyes. Surprisingly most I’ve seen have brown hair and brown eyes. I’ve found that I stick out like a sore thumb when it comes to my eyes.” He smirks softly, “Besides, both my parents have dark hair. So of course I’ll have dark hair as well.” He fidgeted with his rings, sighing softly as he relaxed a bit. He seemed…comfortable being around this girl. She seemed very nice. It would be helpful finding a friend. Eli was never a really talkative boy…he had maybe three or four friends, but that was it.
