A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step (Chinese proverb)
1 September 2021 (Wed)

Behind the wall, they found the magical platform, Platform 9 3/4. There was a smoke-emitting red steam engine, and people were everywhere, most of whom must be naturally wizards, Marius decided. Owls hooted, cats meowed, and for a moment Marius wished Josephine had been here so he would not be alone in his first step of being a Hogwarts student. However, he also remembered that she was much needed back home, one could never know with the barn mice.

Some of the pupils were already inside the train, some were trying to shove their trunks inside a carriage, a couple of them were talking to their families or friends, while others were arguing. Marius decided he would store his trunk in a compartment first, and then after that he would get off the Hogwarts Express once again to chat with his parents before the journey began. Pushing his trolley off down Platform 9 3/4, Marius pressed on through the crowd to find an non-habited compartment, or at least one that did not look too jam-packed.

His parents helped the boy store his trunk in a corner of the compartment, but Marius kept his schoolbag with him all the time. He had decided not to open his trunk right away tonight, so all necessities for tonight and his first school day - such as pyjamas and toothpaste - were kept in his schoolbag.

Marius kept talking with his parents until a whistle blew. He clambered on to the train and kept waving at them, even after the Hogwarts Express started to move and gain speed, stopped only after they disappear when the train rounded the corner.

Having eyes, but not seeing beauty; having ears, but not hearing music; having minds, but not perceiving truth; having hearts that are never moved and therefore never set on fire - these are the things to fear.

Okay. It's just a train. No big deal. You just have to get to the station and onto the platform, then you can ask somebody for advice. You can do this.

Faye could, in fact, not do this. Her parents had taken her from Derry to London (this was a whole other adventure that caused many problems but more on that later) but now she had no idea where she was going. Her father had told her to go straight through a wall, but her mother had not let her. Faye didn't believe it entirely, how come she had to go through a wall? She only got onto Platform 9¾ afterwards because she had lent against the wall in frustration, causing her to tumble through it onto the platform, clutching her trunk as she lay on the floor in shock.

She had quickly scrambled up off the floor and hurried onto the train, her brain whirring just two milliseconds behind her feet as she hurried through the busy train with her large trunk still in her tight grasp in front of her, bumping into both students and walls alike. She kept bustling past various students until she stumbled across an empty carriage.

Sitting down on the seat closest to the window, Faye stared out the window, although she couldn’t see much over the trunk that she held on her lap. It was all a mess of brown and sky. Lovely.

Dave - #fff79e
My dad and I had just finished the long trip from Brockham, my home town, to Kings Cross where I'd board the Hogwarts Express and head off to Hogwarts for a few months. The rest of the family didn't come along since it was over an hours trip and as such, we had said our good-bye's at home and then my dad and I left at around nine o'clock. Once my dad had finished parking, we stepped out of our minivan and my dad helped me grab my stuff from the trunk of the vehicle. There was two very big suitcases that had the task of holding everything I needed for my multi month stay at Hogwarts, but there was also a smaller, less noticeable suitcase that held my Hogwarts uniform into which I'd change whilst on the train since we had decided it was easier to just carry one smaller suitcase containing the clothes onto the trains then to open one of the bigger suitcases and getting the clothes out of there. It was also to be used to carry everything I needed from class to class later on.

We put my luggage on a trolley and pushed it around the platform until we found the wall between platforms nine and ten before running into it as we were instructed by the professor that came to our house a few months earlier. My dad and I ran at the wall and surprise surprise! There was a huge red train there, just like we had been told by the professor. My dad grabbed one of the suitcases and went on the train and then helped me pull the other one onto the train. We then looked for a compartment that was relatively empty and found one pretty close to where we got on. It only had one trunk in a corner up top so I decided to occupy the rest of the shelf, hoping my suitcases would fit snuggly on the shelf, and I wasn't too far off. There was about an inch of space left between my suitcases and the other person's trunk, who ever that could be and I really hoped the stuff wouldn't fall out on the way to Hogwarts.

We then went outside of the train and talked for a bit before saying our final good-bye's after the train blew it's whistle. I went back on the train before entering back into the compartment I had decided to sit in and surprise, surprise, there was a boy at the window, waving to his family and for a moment, I debated on whether or not to join him before deciding that there wasn't much of a point in doing so since it was just my dad with me and we had already said our good-byes. And now that I thought about it, half the kids on the train weren't waving at their parents either since they sat on the other side and couldn't see their families at all. There was also another girl in the compartment sitting down and as I looked at the two new people in the compartment, one of which probably owned the trunk by which my suitcases were, and hoped that my first trip to Hogwarts would be... enjoyable for all of us. Once the boy stopped waving, I decided to start a conversation by saying "Hello everyone, how's it going? Have you had a good morning so far? And I'm David Howard by the way but you can call me Dave.".

[quote] Faye looked up from the window, blinking madly. Somebody else had entered the compartment. She hadn’t even recognised that the other boy was there either, so she jumped out of her skin and almost dropped her trunk.

“Oh! Oh god, sorry. Didn’t see you there. Or you! Good morning, yes. It takes ages to get here, right? I mean, what if you don't know how to get onto the platform? I must have scared the life out of Mammy when Da told me to run straight through that wall. Of course, I didn't run. I sort of, well, fell? Oh god. Do they know where I am? I just fell through the wall, never to be seen again.” She kept muttering, ignoring the boys.

After a while, she looked back up at her new friends. Were they her friends? She’d only talked to one of them and she was doing it right now. Stupid brain.

“David? Nice name! Very normal. Simple. Not weird like urm.. Doreen or maybe Florian. But that’s French. Or is it? Where is France? Sorry, I’m babbling. Yes, I will call you Dave. It sounds hip. Like, ‘Hi Dave!’ or ‘Whatcha doing Dave?’. Haha!” She paused. “You can tell I’ve never done this before, right?”

By now Cash should have been get used to it but it would be nice if they could see their mother before they need to head back to Hogwarts again for the new school year. After Cash has done their shower, they asked one of the helpers where was their mother. Maritza - one of Ironwoods' helpers - told Cash that their mother was already long gone hours ago before Cash was awake.

The green eyes sigh at the fact. After they make sure all of the things that they want to bring back to the school are packed, they descend from their bedroom to the front door of the Ironwoods Manor. Their trunk had been loaded into the trunk of the Ironwoods town car. Their personal chef already packed one of their favorite breakfast for Cash to eat on the road.

One hour goes by from Oxford which is their hometown, finally, Cash and their chauffeur arrive at the King's Cross station. They pushed their trolley that contained their school essentials and the cage of their pet. They run between platforms 9 and 10 and when Cash is on the other side, they saw the infamous big black and red of the Hogwarts Express train.

At this point, the green eyes already know the drill. Cash looked up at the clock and they still have some spare time before they need to board the train. They pushed their trolley towards the long benches that were not far and facing the train. The third-year saw new and old students chatting with their loved ones while waiting for the train to leave the platform.

And when the time they needed to board the train, Cash pushed their cart toward where their trunk will be stored in one of the train compartments. Cash decided to let Aero out of his cage and slither inside their satchel bag. The second whistle was blown indicating the train will be leaving soon. Cash stepped into one of the compartment doors and they saw a brown-haired boy waving goodbye to his parents.

When the Cuban descendant boarded the train, they have a to-do list which is looking for their friends. But since Cash knows how long and how many compartments the train has, they gave up searching for their friends after they had looked in four other compartments. The train slowly gained its speed and Cash needed to find a seat before a prefect admonished them.

The Beater slid open the glass door of the train compartment that was nearest to them. Inside the compartment, they saw the space already filled with three other people that were much younger than Cash themselves. The green eyes assumed either the three of them are first or second year. They took one of the unoccupied seats near the sliding door.

They pulled up their satchel bag onto their lap. Their last name was embroidered into the front flap of the bag. Their reading glasses perched on their nose. Cash took out a book that they found in the huge collection of their home library from inside their bag. The book itself has a black cover with 'How To Tapped Your Inner Dark Arts' as the title of the book.

The green eyes hoped they can finish the book before they arrived at the school but it seem by how lively their train compartment companions were, it is a hard task to do. Two out of the three are conversing with each other. The black-haired boy introduced his name as David Howard, Dave for short.

While the other girl rambles on like their life her life depends on it. Cash rolled their eyes. "This is just great!"They mumbled lowly to themselves in Spanish. Cash then pulled out a bookmark and place it between the pages that they read on. The green eyes then averted their eyes from their book to the girl. "Did anyone ever told you that you are annoying?"They inquired the girl.

Cash did not give a hoot whether they hurt the other girl feeling or not. They just want to read their book in peace.

The journey had been a whirlwind already, and the day had hardly started. Nessie had awoken early, unable to sleep from the excitement, and had triple-checked her trunk: packing and unpacking and repacking to ensure that she hadn’t forgotten anything. From there, she’d eaten a hurried breakfast with her great-aunt, and they’d journeyed to King’s Cross. Nessie had been unusually quiet as they’d made their way onto Platform Nine and Three Quarters: normally she might have chatted idly to Aunt Lulu, but instead her mind had been all a-jumble: it felt as though there were a million thoughts all at once.

There were so many things she wanted to say to her aunt before she boarded the train, so many feelings: how thrilled she was to learn magic, how she was inexplicably so very nervous about it despite her eagerness, and how she couldn’t wait to make friends, but also how she couldn’t possibly imagine spending even a day without Aunt Lulu. Nessie had so many hopes for what would come next, but just as many worries and fears. And all the while, with so much on her mind, Nessie was also taking in the new experiences that the day brought.

She’d spent several moments staring in wonder at the Hogwarts Express before it even occurred to her that she was meant to be saying goodbye. Nessie looked helplessly at her aunt, not sure how to express what she was feeling. Fortunately, Aunt Lulu had much more composure: she’d spoken a few words of reassurance, reminded Nessie that everything would be alright, and said a no-nonsense goodbye. Nessie meekly nodded, expressed her love, and quietly bid her aunt farewell; it felt insignificant compared to how she felt, but her aunt had never been the sentimental type and Nessie sensed that she was expected to be going on her way.

Still, she wasn’t especially eager to be parted from Aunt Lulu, so she dragged her feet, taking her time to haul her trunk onto the train. It wasn’t until she pulled the cumbersome baggage along the train corridor that she regretted her choices: many compartments looked quite full, and the first couple that Nessie peeked into didn’t have any room. She was just beginning to wonder if she’d be stuck awkwardly lingering in the hallway for the entirety of the journey when she opened the door to another compartment and saw that there were only four students inside it – it wasn’t full, which meant perhaps there might be room for Nessie.

She paused in the doorway, one hand on the door and the other clutching the handle of her trunk. Although she was very eager to make new friends, she felt suddenly shy – the emotional rollercoaster of the first day of school accumulated with the pressure she felt to find a place to sit, and she froze.

In the end, it was all she could do to say something, anything, and she gave her best attempt at a greeting along with a sheepish half-smile. “Um … hi?”

What an odd sort of passengers they had here, or so Marius told himself, inside his head.

First was an energetic girl who, for some reason, decided to cling to her trunk all the time so far. And then there was a talkative boy who was quick in introducing his name. After that, entered a student who looked several years more senior than the others in that compartment, Marius himself included, and it seemed they were more interested in their book than the ongoing conversation. Lastly, came a girl with curly hair whom Marius assumed was around the same age with the first two. She looked awkward, probably as she entered to find a not-so-friendly atmosphere.

Marius personally considered the first pupil who entered after him was slightly too full of herself, paying very little attention to where she was going to and to what was happening (as well as who were) around her, but he was no fan of the reading teen's attitude, either. They had chosen to sit in this compartment where there had been three other occupants, two of whom were chatty, so they had no right to immediately complain like that, particularly in their rude manner. If they wanted 100% quietness, they were welcome to move to another compartment.

To the newcomer, Marius gave a signal they were welcomed to sit and gave her a friendly smile. And as David had introduced himself to him (as well as to other people), it seemed rude if Marius did not do the same. "I'm Brown. Marius Brown," he said to anyone who would listen.

As the girl across from me talked like someone who never learned how to word sentences correctly, another girl came into the compartment. She looked a bit older then the rest of us and I knew that since her features were a bit more developed then the rest of us. She got out a book in a few seconds of her arrival and started reading so I had decided I wouldn't be bothering her unless she spoke up first since I knew how important of a task reading was and being ignored whilst doing so wasn't a great experience.

Just then, the girl that was talking asked “You can tell I’ve never done this before, right?” before the older girl answered her question by saying "Did anyone ever told you that you are annoying?". Well did anyone ever teach the both of them grammar? The first girl obviously needed those lessons much more, not that I was going to tell her that, but the older one only got one word wrong which was 'told' where she should've used tell, but I didn't like to get into arguments small stuff like that so I wasn't gonna tell her that either. But I still hadn't answered the girls question so I said "Yes, I can tell you've never done this before, I mean, have your parent's locked away from society for most of your life or were you just an introvert for most of it?" I then turned to the older girl and said "And I'ma just let you know in advance that I'm probably just as annoying as her, just with a different choice of words but I'm not gonna disturb you if you wanna read that book although I'd really recommend moving to a different compartment since I am known to be talkative."

A moment later a third girl opened the door and said "Um, hi?" after which, the boy that had previously been waving out the window earlier gestured for her to sit down before introducing himself with "I'm Brown. Marius Brown.", but not really doing anything else. "Well hello to you too, I'm David Howard but you can call me Dave, Marius just introduced himself so you know his name, and I dunno who those two are," I said, nodding over to the two girls in my compartment before continuing; "but do sit unless you wish to find a different compartment, I'm fine either way and if you choose to stay then I hope we can get along during the remainder of the train ride."

Faye looked over to the person who'd just sat down, she was reading a book about 'tapping your inner dark arts', but she didn't understand what that meant. How could you tell whether art was dark or not? By using darker paints? Why would there be a book about tapping dark artwork?

"Yes, actually, multiple times. I can't really help it, sorry. What's your book about? Are you an avid painter? Or finger-painter judging by the name?" She said, blinking slowly and moving her head to the side.

"Um ...hi?"
She moved her attention to the girl who'd just entered the carriage, she seemed to be her age, unlike the angry finger painter with the funny accent. Faye adjusted her smile and reached out her hand, only to realise she couldn't possibly shake her hand from this distance, instead patting her trunk awkardly.
"Hello! Welcome to this compartment!" She grinned towards the new girl "Nice to meet you Brown, Marius Brown! Very nice colour, brown! It's so... brown!"

"You cannot be more right, Dave! Society is way too judgemental for somebody like me. It's a silly idea, society. I'm Faye, by the way!"

To say that Archer Elderberry was nervous for his first day at Hogwarts was like saying a bear did its business in the woods; it was incredibly obvious but he hid it behind a relaxed, cool demeanor. As the boy from Liverpool hoisted his trunkful of supplies onto the train, he walked into the first compartment he could find - only to find several other students were already occupying it; . Shrugging his shoulders, Archer sat next to a window, turning to one of the others, the fellow with the long black hair. "'Ello." he greeted with a nod, his scouse accent prominent. "Name's Archer Elderberry, but you can call me Archie - everyone does."
