Humming softly to herself, Dee hopped up onto the long duelling stage, ignoring the steps that were just a few meters to her left. Another stage, another match to moderate, but it somehow never got old. How could it, watching four students find new and exciting ways to knock each other out each time?
The Gryffindors in her match today were vaguely familiar faces - girls from her year, but she couldn't recall if she'd ever talked to them. Odd. They'd been here for two years and a half, you'd think they would have interacted at some point - but perhaps they had, Dee's memory tended to be somewhat selective. The Slytherins on the other side were better known to her, although not necessarily better liked. Her encounters with Henry had not really been conducive to a positive relationship. Well. Bridget she respected, at least. Bridget seemed pretty cool, actually. Levelheaded and competent. A really good duellist. Easy points earned in Dee's books.
Still, she couldn't help but hope that the Slytherin Co-Captain's winning streak would end today. They'd want Gryffindor to win more duels than they lost against the Vipers, because last stage, Slytherin had absolutely annihilated Hufflepuff, and if they did the same thing with Gryffindor today, there went this year's duelling championship. So perhaps Dee was a little biased. Sue her.
Sticking two fingers into her mouth, Dee whistled sharply, the loud sound cutting through the audience's chatter, drawing attention. "Listen up!" she called. "Next duel starting soon! Can @Sylvie O'Niell and @Elsa Veronica Bennett for Gryffindor, and @Bridget Collins and @Henry Knight for Slytherin please come up here!"
Slipping her wand from her pocket, Dee would shoo the duellists to their assigned sides in case they needed assistance, then pointed at both sides in turn. "No first timers, so I know you know the rules. Don't break them, et cetera, et cetera. Also, remember there's a time limit today, so try to wrap this up before I have to call it off." A cheeky grin that belied her serious tone snuck unto a face. "Don't bore me."
Stepping back, Dee gave a lazy wave with her wand hand. "Begin!"

The second stage has arrived. Henry rubbed his forefinger aginest the emerald brooch for luck even if he was slightly rooting for a few gryffindor teams that day.
Majority of his friends and ones the teen cares for is in the house of red and gold, a large group of them being duelists as well. The teen expected to be aginest someone he knew that day, his mind curious who it would be as his blue gaze examined the duelling room and pistle.
Loki stood in the seats. Amber gaze watching his onwer's upcoming duel. Taking deep breaths, a calming technique. The teen tried to clear his mind, tried to focus on the upcoming duel instead of Alexa. He duel her last stage and now would never get a chance to cheer for her, the teen felt himself close his eyes tightly. Promising to win this duel for Alexa, for the hufflepuff he cared for. Opening them to the sound of his name shouted from the voice of the ravenclaw captain.
Henry looked for his parther and captain, following her up onto the stage where he saw his friend and fellow boom member. Nicky. Offering a smile toward the girl as he stepped toward her, offering a high five to her while he spoke"let me guess your signature spell involves bubbles, happy bubble?" The teen nudged the girl a bit with his elbow, playfully he would whisper "no hard feelings when we win, right?" 'We' referring to him and Bridget. Smiling a little as he stepped back to his side of the stage, besides Bridget. Pulling out his mayhaw wand, holding it firmly in his left hand as he took his dueling stance.
"don't go easy on me, Nick?"
The teen called across toward his gryffindor friend, strange how the sight of her could affect his emtions so deeply. Glancing toward his captain and parther, the teen softly spoke"she's a friend," remembering Bridget's words from their first duel together, the teen smiled softly as he spoke"Ready, Cap?" Eyes darted ahead for the gryffindor team. Stance taken and wand in hand. Face drained of emotion and now focus.
"just like we pratice."
Bridget's words. One of comfort for the teen to keep him focus as he knew the time for fun and laughs as pass, now is the time for the duel. May the best win.

There was a constancy to duelling--the routine of practice, the anticipation of matches--that Bridget was glad to have. Things changed, but she still had this. And here, at least most of the time, she could count on hard work to have direct results. What exactly might happen was still a mystery, granted. The possibility of losing her win streak--now at five--loomed overhead and certainly carried a fair bit of pressure with it. But those uncertainties were only met with butterflies fluttering around her stomach, not the terror that came with a lack of control.
The time leading up to being called to the stage was always the most nerve-wracking. Before she was in the duelling room, it didn't feel quite so imminent, and once she was on the stage, the worries were crowded out by action. She was waiting in the front row of the bleachers, wand held in both hands as they rested on her knees. Mentally reviewing strategy and sizing up the opposition were the only productive things to do now, and so she did. Frankly, opening moves were the only things ever locked in place, because everything else was bound to get messed up by the opponents also casting at you, though they had various contingencies for different scenarios. As for who they would be facing, she couldn't say she knew very much at all about Sylvie or Elsa. She'd been moderating a match during their duel last stage, and so all she knew about them was what she could get from second-hand accounts. Not knowing what to expect from them was just what it was; they would adapt, and anyhow, if they gained the upper hand, Gryffindor would have to duel their way.
With a whistle came Dee's summons to the stage, and so she stood, pushed her shoulders back, and climbed up to the platform. She watched the exchange between Henry and... that one was Elsa, right? Evidently they were friends, which made two stages in a row for Henry; either he had bad luck when it came to match-ups, or just a lot of friends. He'd handled last time just fine, so she wasn't concerned. Her attention was on Dee, anyway, for her quick recap of the rules. And following a last amusing remark to not bore her, that was all from Dee, who moved to the side and would call for them to begin any moment now.
"Ready," she confirmed for Henry. She dipped her head to each opponent as usual--there was never really any after-match acknowledgement, save for a Hospital Wing visit, so it was best to do now. Tightening her ponytail one last time, she readied her wand and waited for the signal.

The duelling room and the people's voices merged into one big blur when she was waiting for her turn. She knew they were up against stronger opponents now than in the previous duel, and as if things weren't complicated enough already, one of them was Henry. But she couldn't let it get in the way of their game and strategy. And she wouldn't let Sylvie down although her first instinct might have been to get up and run away.
Just remember duelling Robert - no overthinking, joke around, focus on strategy, throw some spells.
Except Robert was carried away to the hospital wing afterwards... but he would be fine. And so would be Henry or this girl who was on the team with him if they were to lose consciousness. Nicky smiled at her partner as they were headed to the stage.
"We'll do great, let's just stick to the plan. We're a powerhouse of a team, we can win this".
Half of it was to support Sylvie, half of it she said to reassure herself. She took a deep breath and shook off all the emotions that were overflowing inside her. Everyone she knew believed she could do this, they could do this. They were a team, one living organism that would stand strong no matter what. They would have each other's back and pull through this together.
She high fived Henry without a shadow of a doubt in her eyes now.
"My signature spell? You won't have to wait much longer to find out".
He was looking relaxed, playful even, like it wasn't an official duel."no hard feelings when we win", huh? Someone was getting cheeky before the duel even started. She wasn't going to let herself be distracted by this. Henry would probably notice that despite the smile she was a lot more serious than she was off the duelling stage - no more babbling, no more distractions than necessary.
"Don't go easy on me, Nick?"
"Wasn't planning to".
She smiled at Sylvie as they both went to their spot on the stage.
"He is a friend but it won't be a distraction".
This was just another fight. A battle. And she believed she could see her house trample the snakes. Roar and swallow them whole like any lion would.
"GO GRYFFINDOR!!!!!!!!!!".

ReducioThey'd won their last duel, luckily. It had Sylvie feeling good! Some might even say feeling confident.
Even still, the Gryffindor knew that the Slytherins were indeed a threat. At least one familiar face would stand with them on the stage, that being Henry Knight, a boy in her year. She knew this would be a challenge, but... Well. It would be fine! Nicky seemed happy to see the boy and she confirmed they were friends. At least knowing her partner, no hard feelings would be felt in this duel. Hopefully.
"We'll do great." She said, giving Nicky a nudge with her elbow.

There was a fair amount of good-natured interaction between the two teams, Henry and Elsa, better known as Nicky, teasing each other, some encouragement between the two Gryffindors. Bridget remained cool and professional, nodding to her opponents as the duel started.
And a rather flashy start it was. Immediately, Sylvie raised her wand to the ceiling, conjuring a thundercloud above the Slytherins that would ominously growl down at them, ready to unleash heaven's fire upon them. Dee did not want to get struck by lighting coming from that cloud.
Elsa, having identified Bridget as the biggest threat on the stage, made a very solid attempt at disarming the older duellist, but the Viper managed to slip out of the way just barely.
In turn, Bridget's disarming charm was easily evaded by Sylvie, but the dodging maneuver led the Gryffindor girl straight into the path of Henry's body-bind curse. Her arms and legs snapped together, body becoming stiff as a board, and she went down hard. Ouch. That would probably give her a nice bruise.
Dee whistled quietly, her eyes bright as she watched. It was the first time she'd seen the weather-modifying charm used in a duel since they had decided to allow it, and the full body-bind curse was a bit of a rarity, too. Those kids meant business, and she certainly wasn't starting off bored.

At the start of the duel, Henry cleared his face of emtions. Focused on the duel ahead as he leveled his wand. Took a breath then spoke.
"Petrificus Totalus."
Watching the sparks fly toward his target, Henry had doubt if it would hit remembering last time he dared use the spell and it failed. His attention perked up when the spell hit! It actually hit! Henry watched as the gryffindor girl frozen then fell, causing the teen to winch a little. He didn't want to hurt the girl after all but stayed focus reminding himself that it is only a duel. A part of the sport.
Eyes flickering towadd his parther who dodged the incoming disarming but missed hers. It was only the mere beginning of the duel there was still time for anything to happen that day when suddenly the atmosphere shifted. The wind blew harder and a chill crawl up his spine.
Snapping his head upward at the now present thundering storm could, Henry stared at it for a moment before glancing back at his opponents. Wand at the ready. Face focused. The teen's eyes flickered over Nicky as he spoke"didn't see that coming," refering to both his own spell and Sylvie's spell. The teen felt himself about to crack a smile but stopped himself. Determined to remain focused as he whispered to his captain and partner.
"Sorry, I won't lose my focused again, cap."

The call to begin was waited for much the same as the gun at a track meet; you knew it would come soon, and once it did the action began immediately. For her, that meant a spiraling hook of her wand and incanting "Expelliarmus." Tracking the scarlet light's path to Sylvie was not a luxury she had, as the same spell was coming at her. She dodged it, but truth be told, it was much too close for comfort. Much of the time she was fast enough to duck or move to the side; the best she could do here was twist and lean. Her sleeve rippled as it shot past, but a miss was a miss, the laurel wood of her wand still gripped in hand, if not now held a little tighter.
Her own cast was a disappointment, not coming anywhere near as close. Clearly she didn't have her focus quite rallied from the start, and that would need to change before she paid for it. Henry did much better, thankfully, and with the impact of his spell Sylvie would freeze and fall to the floor with a wince-worthy thud, though that was sure to be one of the less painful things she'd experience today. The worst part was likely the inability to do anything; that's what it would be for Bridget, her experience with a freezing spell not one recalled fondly.
The Slytherins were no worse for wear, save for a darkening above them. She glanced skyward to Sylvie's summoned thunder cloud. Having seen what this did before, it was plenty ominous, an insidious sort of presence likely to strike at the worst possible moment. Not an immediately pressing matter, but it would be foolish to forget about it. That said, she directed her attention back to the Gryffindors, who were sure to nail her with a spell if she wasn't watching. Henry exchanged a bit of banter with Elsa, and she was going to compliment his cast, but decided to just keep quiet when he apologized for getting distracted. She didn't really mind, many duellists seemed to thrive in an atmosphere of witty barbs. Personally, she did best with her lips pressed together and eyes ahead.

Sylvie seemed to be the other team's main target for this round as both Slytherins threw spells at her. Nicky's own spell failed but at least Sylvie's weather charm was a success. The worst news this round was - Sylvie fell to the floor, paralyzed. Nicky was too focused on the duel to process Henry's words, her brain probably thought it best to block him out. The only thing she saw and heard were the spells. The duel had just started, and she had to keep her head in the game, keep going, keep standing strong.

ReducioSylvie's freedom to move around as she pleased didn't last long this time around. Though she was happy she was able to successfully cast a cloud over the Slytherins before them, her body was then struck with a spell that left her stiff. She let out a yelp of shock through her teeth as she fell to the ground. Damn. This sucked!
