Show me the dark side
If Haley remembers correctly, it was at the beginning of her first year at Hogwarts that she first had contact with Charles. They had exchanged letters at the time, a kind of preparation as Durmstrang was about to visit Hogwarts. Long story short - the two had met through letters, but funnily they had never seen each other in real life. Then came summer camp and this time, quite by chance, the two ran into each other. They hadn't really spoken to each other, just a few short sentences here and there, but that was about to change. By now it had been a while since the two had seen each other, but as the international schools were once again at Hogwarts during the Fall Ball, the two ran into each other again purely by chance. Keeping her eyes on the ground, Haley walked across the grounds lost in thought and nearly knocked Charles over. On this occasion, she decided to take the chance and arranged to meet him after the ball at the lake - it was about time she finally met the familiar unknown.soon to meet @Charles Alluring @Henry Knight
It was kind of strange, the last months she had kept her social contacts to a minimum, distracted herself mainly with Quidditch, sports and studying from the experiences during the holidays and had really ignored her trauma. And now she ran into Charles and suddenly decided to socialise again, somehow regretting it. She had only recently been able to tell Simon everything, to start down the path of becoming herself again, which was exhausting enough. And yet here she was, sitting on the jetty by the lake, once again too early, gazing fixedly at the still water. She let her head and neck slowly crack to the right, then to the left, and sighed to herself. It wasn't Charles, it was just that she wasn't in the mood to make new friends at the moment. The last few days she had slept badly again, nightmares plagued her and in general she hated the world. But nobody could help what had happened to her. Only her grandfather. Yet she was just blanket pissed off by everything.
She knew she shouldn't just take her mood out on others, but what she would most like to do is just scream, cry and punch anything as hard as she could. But she tried to use the free minutes at the lake to mentally prepare herself for the meeting with Charles. He didn't deserve to sit here with a Haley who was just pushing bad moods. But she didn't even know what to talk about.
Before she could sink further into self-pity and rack her brains, she noticed a figure approaching in the distance - of course it was Charles. She put on a smile, stayed on the jetty and waved to him, "Hey Charles, I'm here!" she called to and waited for him to join her.

Chnage. The story of Charles's life. He lived through it, mostly himself changing with inner changing or whatever the phase was.
Charles grew up with a family who suppress his true identity, he learned lessons and manners and obediences. Taught to be one thing. To act one way. Charles was once small and good, a happy child afraid to speak up. To bend a rule, to turn to his darker side, to be anything but what his family told him to be.
That was in the past...
Years forgotten... Charles now changed. Differnt. The blonde no longer care whay his family or even what others thought about him. A aura of confidence, of strength now cricled him. Charles now revealed his true self, quote enjoyed living in the dark side. Bending the rules. Why did others opinions matter? Only yoir did.... right?
Charles held his broom behind his neck, arms resting on the ends as he stood by the neck. The blonde hardly went anyway without his nimbus, the broom he only had from the money he stole from his father then bought it for himself. The blonde purposely got himself into trouble, broke the rules, spole his mind... after all what was the point with staying quiet? Fading into thr background? We only live once so go for it.
Charles waited for one of the only hogwarts students that he liked, the blonde didn't like many so if he considered you a friend than that is something meaningful. Looking across the lake, Charles watched the rippling water until. A voice. Charles looked and saw the red head, Haley Rose.
Walking a few steps toward her, Charles offered a half smile as he spoke"hey, what's up," the blonde eyed the girl for a moment before casting a gaze out toward the powering sun as he spoke"nice night, uh. "

Always laughing, extroverted, adventurous, open and warm-hearted. All statements with which one would describe Haley, or better her old, still present but not only side. As much as she was a cheerful person, always had a slight smile on her lips and was always able to improve the mood of others, an other sides of her had emerged or perhaps just awakened. Child of light - that's what she used to be, now it was time for her to discover her dark side and perhaps also to accept and allow it. But that was something she herself was not yet aware of. She knew that the experiences had pulled the rug out from under her, but never would she have expected the extent that would sooner or later crack through the surface. Perhaps it would be Charles who would kick-start this process, show her the other side and tease out the dark inside her.@Charles Alluring @Henry Knight
Haley remained seated and waited until Charles was with her. She smiled at him and tapped the wood next to her with her left palm, offering him to take the seat next to her without comment. As she nodded in agreement, she turned her gaze back to the lake that lay at her feet. She thought about all the rumours, about the creatures that were supposed to be down there in the depths. She wondered if they had their eyes on the two of them too. How they sat here innocently, in their perfect little world, unaware of what was bending around them.
Deep in her thoughts, she remembered that she was no longer alone. She could have laughed at herself at that moment, but fortunately she did not. She didn't want to leave Charles with the first impression that she was somehow crazy. "So, how was your stay here at Hogwarts?" she began the conversation and as she propped herself up on both her arms, her hands each on the edge of the jetty to the right and left of her legs, and turned her gaze back to him. She knew the ball had been another disaster, but how could she be so stupid as to expect that for once nothing would happen.
"Did you have fun? Did you go to the ball? Made great new international friends?" at the last part of her question, the sarcasm in her voice and the eye roll was impossible to miss. There it was, the anti-social side of Haley that she had been clinging to for a few months now. As much as she loved her close quarters and friends, she was still annoyed by all the crowds. As if Hogwarts wasn't crowded enough with professors and students, no, now she was really running into random strange faces over all of them, crowded places were even more crowded and at the point where she didn't bother to put on a nice smile anymore, she was earning snide looks here and there. In the past, it would have bothered her to worry whether others thought badly of her, but now she didn't care.

Charles remained standing, broom held behind his neck and arms resting on the egded as he stared across at the rippling water of the lake. A longing to jump on his broom and fly across it, running his finger tips along the water with the wind in his hair sounded nice. Better than the other activities that Charles went through during the trip so far.
The blonde heard the voice of Haley, eyes on the water as he shuged then spoke"dull, never much here besides those horror balls. Hogwarts students tend to be more rule following than Dumstrang students," Charles would be the first to aidmit that he hates his school and would prefer hogwarts over it but the blonde didn't like the Scotland school neither. Finding professors to be more stricter with rules and more students who Charles would want to punch in the face isn’t a good combination neither...
Charles dropped his broom on the ground, leaning it on the wood as he looked over at Haley for the first time. Listening to her words. Her voice. The scarasm. The eye roll. The blonde was use to that, did it himself before he found other things to do. Eyeing the girl, Charles spoke"we don't
have to talk, Hal," taking a breath as he slipped his hands into his jacket pocket and spoke"you don't like social interactions? Others can just be idiots, sometimes right."

He didn't take the seat, that was okay too. Although she had already noticed the broom purely visually, it was only now that she really noticed it. She examined it from top to bottom, a nimbus. Haley wondered what it was like to fly on this broom, until now she had only known the school brooms and recently, thanks to the Gryffindor broom fund, she had a silver arrow, which she was more than grateful for. The more she thought about it, the more amused she found it that Charles actually carried his broom around with him and couldn't help giggling. "That thing is sacred to you, isn't it?" she said as she nodded her head in the direction of the broom, but could understand it.@Charles Alluring @Henry Knight
She laughed at his comment about the Hogwarts students. "Say no more. I'm still looking for partners who would break a few rules with me." She continued to laugh and wink at him. Haley always liked adventure and the best ones happened when you didn't follow rules. "So you're obviously more of daredevils in Durmstrang than we are here. Maybe I should go looking for some partners in crime at your school." She joked further.
Of course, she didn't manage to hide her mood. Far too rarely was she a good actor. She sighed and looked apologetically at the blonde boy, "Ugh, I am sorry." She said and shrugged her shoulders. "Normally I don't have a problem with social interaction but at the moment-" she paused for a moment, thinking about the right choice of words. "At the moment it's a well, let's say, difficult time for me." That wasn't a lie, didn't sound too crazy and at the same time didn't give too much away. After all, she didn't want to cry all over him with any problems or bother him with how annoyed she was with the world. "But yes, you're right. Others can be idiots sometimes. Or better yet, assholes." She agreed with him, noticing the anger rising up inside her again. She tried to breathe calmly, not noticing how her hands had clenched into fists.
"I promise I am not always this grumpy." Said the redhead as she stood up in one short and quick motion, now facing Charles. She didn't want to waste his time or have him regret meeting up with her only to be surrounded by a bad tempered girl. "So it's still Quidditch?" she inquired as she glanced at his broom again, "I don't know if you remember, but we had talked about it then and what can I say, you were right. I really did make the Quidditch team." She told him and trying to change the subject at the same time.

Charles ran his fingers along the handle of the broom, breathing in as his eyes laid on the piece of wood leaning aginest another piece of wood. The blonde had to bend down a bit to do the action seeing how tall he is however the boy would flicker his eyes toward Haley and her words.
Stepping back from his prized broom, straightening his back and slipping his hands into his jacekt pocekte. The blonde smiled hafly as he spoke"My prized possession," no other words, the blonde mever knew why some had to talk about themselves and give their life stories. The less you say, is better after all right?
Topic changed, Charles looked out at the rippling water. A slight breeze blew by, the chill felt nice to the boy as he listened to the girl's voice. Partners in breaking rules? Breaking the rules was something that the blonde did but not on purpose or with pranks, he just didn't follow them. What was the point of the rules anyway? To restrict students? Make them into something they won't? Into something the school wanted them to be? Charles laughed as he spoke"rules, what a pathetic way to control someone," eyes still on the water. Not saying much letting Haley do modt of the talking as he came in out points. Eyes remaining on the rippling, flowing blue water.
Charles laughed a little as he spoke"you won't find any luck at Dumstrang neither, most there are gits who don't know one end of a broomstick from the other," the boy was exaggerating a little but he didn't care. Charles didn't like majority of his classmates, preferring to punch or insult them than anything else. The blonde choose to only look at the negatives, from his childhood he never understood why anyone would look at things the other ways around. If you don't expect anything than you can't be let down.
A topic change. Charles stared at the water as he listened to Haley. Apparently he was right and now she's apologizing? Listening to her explanation, Chadles noted thay she didn't know how to explain it. Cutting off her words, leading him to be interested as he waited for the girl to finish her thoughts.
"Don't apology."
Two words. Charles stared out at the water. Hands in his pockets. Wind blowing through his air, the blonde took a breath. Looking over ay the girl sitting on the ground, Charles spoke"don't apology for being yourself. If others don't like it then forget them, what do they know anyway," the blonde was use to others hating or disliking him before even introducing himself. He's use to be outcasted and forgotten throughout the years. So now, Charles didn't care what others thought about him or their words. He didn't care what they said or did, none of it matter. The only thing that did matter is what you think and do.
Charles turned, stepping closer toward Haley. Looking down at the girl, something looked different about the girl since their meetings during the summer camp. Charles studied the girl as he spoke"Your right, people are jerks and their opinions should mean shit to you," the blonde smiled a little as he moved his broom off to the side. Taking a seat besides Haley, eyes staring at the water ahead.
Charles looked over at the girl, nudging her shoulder as he replied"don't apology. I like this you," smiling toward the girl as he moved his eyes back toward the water breathing in. It was strange to find the boy sitting somewhere and doing nothing but breathing and talking. The blonde is someone whoes always on the move, always doing something.
Quidditch. A topic loved by the boy. Snapping his head in the direction of Haley, Charles smiled as he spoke"what position?" Charles could discuss Quidditch and brooms all day as he smiled toward Haley and continued"I'm the first string chaser for Dumstrang, don't know if I told you. What's your broom?" Charles took one hand from his pocket, reaching over and touching his shiney nimbus befire a moment before slipping both hands back into his jacket pocket and turing toward Haley as he spoke"congratulations with making the team, Hal."

Haley giggled at his comment about rules and thought about his words for a moment. What were rules good for? To keep order, to provide security? Controlling someone. Charles probably wasn't wrong about that. Or maybe she was just too young and inexperienced to really understand the big picture.@Charles Alluring @Henry Knight
"A people lover, I see." said Haley, glancing at Charles out of the corner of her eye. She smirked. She didn't know why, but in a very unique way, she liked him. Even though they were so different. At least the Haley everyone knew was probably the complete opposite of the tall blond boy standing there with his hands in his pockets. But it was a pleasant change. He was honest, didn't care what anyone else thought, and probably the last to try to please anyone.
Two words, one sentence, for which Haley suddenly felt gratitude at that moment. the two of them barely knew each other and yet Charles managed to find the right words in this situation without the knowledge of what was really going on inside Haley. She was a little unsettled, was she that easy to read? But at the same time, again, she didn't mind. As Charles said, she couldn't care less what others thought. Still, her first reaction was an embarrassed look at the water under her feet.
His gentle nudge against her shoulder made her head straighten and giggling she nudged him back. "Thanks Charles." Not for liking her the way she obviously was, but for his honesty and words. For a new perspective. Things change. You get bigger, older, the seasons changed, a laughing face becomes an expressionless face, skin gets scars. Her eyes fell on her arms, the sleeves of her sweater were pulled up. If you looked very closely, you could see the small scars. A few weeks ago she would have pulled her sleeves back down, covered her scars with makeup, but she wouldn't do that anymore. What had happened had happened, she couldn't change it and she would stand by her changes.
She loved the fact that a single word was enough to stir the excitement in Charles. "First string Chaser." she laughed, the same position as Charles. She would have to ask him to give her private training sometime, she was sure she could learn a thing or two from him. "I have a silver arrow." she answered his question. "Thanks, I'm really glad I did. Quidditch has helped me a lot especially in the last few months." she continued to speak without thinking further about it. Why was she giving away a part of that dark time again? Why was she just blabbering away? It was her honest way and her naive one at the same time. Eventually it would happen to the wrong people and she would have to learn the hard way that she should think before spoke.

Charles scoffed at Haley's comment. The teen use to love to meet new people and be around others, a natrual extrovert. That he still is except now, he couldn't care less of others liked him only thay they know who he is and that he's there.
Charles nodded toward her words, the girl had a fire inside her that the blonde is attracted to. Not in a romantic way.... the blonde is gay of course, perfering males over females in that are. Attracted as in a friend or more but not romantically. The blonde smiled at the girl, as he nodded toward the water and spoke"this side of you is fun," the blonde eyes Haley a little remembering old times as he spoke"when we met before, I thought you were a pretty, preppy, happy girl who gets dul." Rubbing a hand along his hair before nudging the girl witu his shoulder as he spoke"but now your cool and I like that."
The blondr wasn't going around making many friends now but he liked Haley and would be alright if she became a friend.
One word. That all it took. To change Charles completely, the blonde eyed the girl as she spoke. Same position? They played thr same position? Strange but the blonde liked that as he listened, a sliver arrow.... if only the blonde could steal that much from his father for one.
Quidditch was the main reason why he os still at Dumstrang. The sport is how he survived his time at the school and what motivates him to get through a single day anyway. What gets him interested and going. The blonde smiled at the girl as he spoke"same position uh, well we should practice together," hus words and sentences stayed small. Not revealing to much or to little. The blonde kept to himself most day as he eyed the hogwarts student, a smile on his lips.
"I'm glad, when others are gits then Quidditch can be a great distraction."

Haley couldn't place it, but somehow there was a connection between the two. She felt comfortable in his presence. She knew she wouldn't have to pretend and that Charles wasn't judging her. This was a pleasant change to many others and she slowly began to realise that this meeting had been anything but a bad decision. She felt like she could just honestly tell things that others might judge. Things like being a Parselmouth - oh what drama that had been when she had received her mother's Howler. The first judgement of a part of her own family, the stares, the whispering and all the rumours in the corridors. The dark heritage, as if she had become a monster. Then the story with her grandfather, that he was a dark wizard, what he had done to her and how she had a new world view since then.@Charles Alluring @Henry Knight
Haley couldn't help but laugh. Pretty, preppy happy girl. Half a year ago she probably wouldn't have been able to show anything to refute that statement, but now it was different. But it wasn't even necessary, Charles made the realisation all by himself. "Thank you for that." She leaned a little in his direction and started whispering. "I think you're pretty cool too." She returned the compliment and winked at him.
"I'd love to." She agreed with his suggestion. "I'm sure I can learn a lot from you." She spoke with enthusiasm in her eyes, but the euphoria was quickly curbed when she realised that it would hardly be possible, as Charles would soon be far away again, at another school. Somehow this also made her sad. She had the feeling that the two of them could become good friends, not that it wasn't possible despite the distance, but still it would be nice to actually see each other in person once in a while. Charles was different and that made him likeable. Haley had almost only female friends since she had gone to Hogwarts and she missed the many buddy relationships she had before. She had always got on well with boys and had more male friends than female ones even in kindergarten.
"Even worse when the gits are in your own family." Haley muttered, rolling her eyes. But what was she saying, she was sure Charles knew exactly what she meant. "Don't judge me," she knew he wouldn't, "but sometimes I think to myself that this being on the 'good side' may not be the only right thing at all. I think I can understand why there are people who go to the dark side." the redhead admitted her Thoughts.

Charles nodded toward Haley at her comment, a smile piecing his lips toward the red before the blonde looked back toward the water's edge.
It wasn't everyday that someone liked Charles for Charles or thought he was cool. The blonde was used to others not liking him and avoiding him which tends to allow Charles not to care for them and mess with them. Never worrying about the consequences or if he would be alone later. But when Haley said that he was cool, the words touched him. Someone saw him. Someone liked him for him.
"Practicing together would be cool," Charles replied toward the girl's comment about practicing together. The blonde usually practiced by himself, it was effective but tended to get dull. Charles smiled, excited that he wouldn't be alone anymore. He would have someone to practice with, to fly through the air and smile with. That's when the blonde remembered that they went to differnt schools, they could be friends while going to separate schools but couldn't practice quidditch regularly together.
Charles eyed the water, breathing in as he held his hands in his jacket pockets. The cool leater against his skin. Haley's voice in his ear. Charles listened, nodding toward the words that he understood. The blonde knew how one's family can be gits, he lived years with his family who constantly treated him differently and like complete gits to him but it took his time at Dumstrang to open his eyes.
Charles looked over at Haley, nudging her shoulder as he spoke"especially when your family are gits," for a moment he looked at the redhead. Charles thought they understood each other, for a moment he both knew that the other knew. For a moment he thought that he add another friend.... a experience that haven't happened in years. However at the girl's next words Charles shot her a smile as he spoke"some say I walk on the 'dark side' so should I say welcome to the 'dark side' Hal," nudging her shoulder a bit as he stood. Getting to his feet as he looked out over the water, thr lowering sun. The blonde took a breath theb looked behind him at the young redhead girl.
"If being on the 'light side' means hiding yourself and being who others want you to be then why would anyone stay there," Charles spoke as he held out a hand to the girl, a smile creasing his lips as he spoke"I can help you embrace yourself, come to the 'dark side'.
