Italics Are Thinking
Bold is Grace Speaking
It was a long first week and Grace had lots of homework. Potions, DADA, Herbology, you name it. Because of this, Grace was spending her first weekend in the library. Parchment and ink were scattered across the table. Smudges of black were on the apples of her usually rosy cheeks and her silky blonde hair was thrown in a messy bun that sat on top of her head.
My mother would throw a conniption fit if she saw me like this
Grace was sure that with the stacks of books and paper she would most likely be invisible to whomever waltzed their way into the studious place. She would love to meet some new people, but her studies were already taking over her life. Grace was sure even a time-turner would do her no good. She blinked a few times, her lashes touching her cheeks, as she tried to rest her eyes a bit. The hours of reading had put a temporary strain on her eyes and it was starting to be painful, but with rest Grace would be fine. Wiping her hand on her face, Grace accidentally got more ink onto her cheek. She was oblivious to the fact that there was any on her skin at all.
Grace grabbed the book closest to her and ran her finger down the spine. There was a look of pure concentration on her face when she was suddenly snapped out of her trance.

Checking up on @Grace Swan
Simon had stopped into the Library to get a few books to check out so he would have something to read in his dormitory after curfew on his many sleepless nights. Topic? Not sure. Maybe magical plants. Botruckles sounded rather interesting to learn about. He grabbed a book about them. He them made his way over towards the Magical Creatures section. Should he be so bold as to grab a book about the subject that interested him the most right now? He skimmed the titles on the shelves before him. Two books on vampires were added to his stack.
He made his way out of the shelves and headed toward the circulation desk, but as he was passing by some of the large wooden tables for studying, a group of rowdy first year boys tossed a few balled up pieces of parchment at one another and ran to the other side of the Library, their chair knocking into a girl who was busy doing her schoolwork. She was jolted and two of her books were knocked to the floor. "Yo, you three. Stop it," Simon snapped at them.
Maybe he was only a year older but Simon Kincaid was rather built for his age - muscular, he was also of larger stature and just seemed stronger. The boys froze, looking to one another as if wondering what to do. "Take it outside the Library. Go on," he continued. One of the boys took the advice and hurried off, away from where they were and to the door and the other two quickly followed.
Simon sighed, hating when people didn't take the Library seriously. It was a place for so much more than immature behavior. "Some people just can't appreciate a place like this, he said as he leaned down, picking up her two books that had fallen to the floor and set them back on the table beside her. "You alright?"

The first ball of parchment thrown was aimed right at Grace, and it sure was a successful throw. The crumpled paper hit her straight in the face. The next one ended up knocking all of Grace’s books to the floor. Grace froze in shock, her supplies were scattered on the floor, some ruined with ink stains from the spill. Her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. She scrambled and tried to pick up her stuff without making too much of a scene. Suddenly she heard a voice.
"Yo, you three. Stop it. Take it outside the Library. Go on."
It was an older boy, one she had seen around the halls. The rowdy boys seemed to be scared of the Hufflepuff as they rushed out of the library. Grace did not want to seem weird, but he looked rather strong, especially for a second year. There were still two books on the floor and Grace was surprised when he picked them up for her. Her eyes crinkled with confusion, wondering why he was being so nice to her.
“Some people just can't appreciate a place like this, You alright?"
Grace shared a weak smile with the boy before replying.
“I’m okay. Thank you for helping me. If it wasn’t for you they would probably still be messing around.”
She took a shaky breath, still shocked by the situation.
“I’m Grace Swan. Your name is Simon right?”

"The librarian is pretty good at weeding that sort out of here. They'll soon know to take it onto the grounds of the school and not here in the Library," he informed her, smiling softly. It wouldn't always be like this in the Library so she needn't worry about that.
Simon was slightly surprised that a first year seemed to know his name, especially one from another house. He did have a good handful of Gryffindor friends though so it didn't fully surprise him. A small part of him might have been slightly flattered by it.
"Pleasure to meet you, Grace Swan. Yeah. Simon Kincaid, second year Hufflepuff."
He glanced down at his attire and noticed he still had on his white button down shirt and Hufflepuff tie and so he laughed a little. The Hufflepuff part was rather obvious, but who knows, maybe not to a newcomer who didn't know all the house colors yet and names. When he had first entered, he had a hard time learning all four houses names. He had only known Gryffindor because that's the house his mother had been in and his aunt had told him that much.
"It's only the first week of classes, Grace Swan. Forgive the intrusion, but why so....dedicated?" Most didn't put that much into their studies until it was time to cram for an exam.

"The librarian is pretty good at weeding that sort out of here. They'll soon know to take it onto the grounds of the school and not here in the Library. Pleasure to meet you, Grace Swan. Yeah. Simon Kincaid, second year Hufflepuff."
Grace smiled as the boy talked. He seemed extremely kind. As Simon glanced down at his shirt and laughed, Grace started laughing as well. When someone laughed around her it was like a domino effect. Her cheeks tinted pink from the blood rushing to her face from laughing. It was like he had just realized that he was wearing a Hufflepuff tie after introducing himself as a Hufflepuff.
It’s a pleasure to meet you as well Simon Kincaid. If you did not know already, I am a Gryffindor. I promise I’m not a stalker or anything, I’ve just seen you around the castle. Grace replied to the earlier comment. Grace wiped under her eye at an itch, still oblivious to the fact that there was smeared ink on the apples of her cheeks. She pulled at her red sweater, waiting for a reply from the kind boy.
"It's only the first week of classes, Grace Swan. Forgive the intrusion, but why so....dedicated?"
Grace’s eyes widened a bit at the question, but decided to answer anyway.
“No intrusion whatsoever! My parents just expect me to do the best that I can. It may only be syllabus week, but learning the ins and outs of classes can be extremely helpful, especially since it’s my first year. Sorry if that sounds a bit weird.
Grace took a deep breath and added more to her previous statement.
”Would you like to sit down? I really wouldn’t mind. Actually I would love some company.”

“You know it wouldn’t be so bad to have a stalker,” he admitted but knew that wasn’t the case. He sat down across from her. “Gryffindor is a fabulous house. That’s the house my mum was in, many years ago, of course,” it was just a small tidbit of information to keep the conversation going.
“That sounds rather difficult, forgive me. …But to have that high of expectations. Just be sure to enjoy the ride while you’re here too…don’t let it all get to you. I mean, the stress and all. Maybe I could even help if you’d ever need it…even just needing a study partner to quiz you.” Her being first year and he second meant he already had the content before her.
Simon sat his bag on the chair beside him and opened it up. He loosened up his tie and slid it off, placing it inside before removing a bottle of water. He then proceeded to unbutton his school uniform shirt and then poured some of the water on it, glancing to make sure the librarian didn’t see. One wasn't supposed to have water out in the Library. “You’ve got a bit of ink. …Mind if I help?”
The boy did still have on a white tshirt.

Grace was relieved that he had some input on her first year. It would be wonderful to have a study partner, especially having him as one. Even with the preparations she had made for the year, Grace was having trouble with the intake of the new information. She thought back to her homeschool experience. Often she sat around the large dinner table with a stack of worksheets that her mother had given her to work on for the week, so she was used to sitting and working for hours. Once Grace got the hang of the new routine, she would start getting into the social part of Hogwarts, making friends and all.
Oh yes, I definitely plan on doing more than studying while I’m here. I have seven years to be crazy. I’m just learning all of the introductory stuff. I may be a bit lost on some things sometimes. It would be amazing to have you as a study partner, quizzes and all. Grace gave a sweet smile to the boy and messed with the sleeves of her sweater, pulling at bits of string. It unraveled a bit and finally snapped off. Grace decided to stop ruining her clothes and look back up at Simon.
Grace was a bit surprised when Simon slid off his tie and started unbuttoning his shirt. He was already very built, even as a second year, but Grace decided to stare at her black tennis shoes instead of him as he poured water. The shoes were not interesting whatsoever, but it was better than her gaze being fixated on him.
“You’ve got a bit of ink. …Mind if I help?”
Grace’s head shot right back up at that comment. Her mind was filled with questions and concerns. She had ink on her face? How long had it been there? Oh Merlin, he must think I’m the weirdest person ever. She cringed at the thought of embarrassment. Grace stammered her next sentence.
I have ink… on my face?

"Yeah, just ...a little bit. Here and there," he said, sort of bending the truth a little and not liking it. She seemed to be okay with it and if she was, he would lean forward and bring his now wet shirt to the top of her cheek, just below her eye, careful not to get it into her her eye. That was the last thing he wanted to do because he was there to help her, not make things worse for the girl.
"I shall save you from all evil this Library shall hath on thee, m'lady," he smiled to her widely because he was trying to sound like some knight from the medieval times or something. Gallant and all.
He hoped she wasn't embarrassed by the ink because she didn't need to be. It just showed the dedication. Simon figured she would have made a really great Ravenclaw. "Your parents, did they attend Hogwarts themselves?" He knew a lot of students who whose parents attended the school, and their parents before them and their parents before them. Hogwarts, after all, was quite an old establishment.
In realizing he had just asked her a question and that was just prolonging out her studies. He DID say he would help her and that was quite the truth but here he was at that very moment, distracting her. He hoped that she wasn't bothered by him.

Grace sat still as Simon wiped the ink off of her face with his wet shirt, sharing a sweet smile. Her smile faltered a bit when she realized that she had probably just ruined his shirt.questions with @Simon Kincaid
"I shall save you from all evil this Library shall hath on thee, m'lady,"
Grace giggled as Simon smiled.
“So sweet, my knight in shining armor.”
Your parents, did they attend Hogwarts themselves?"
With that question, Grace thought back to her parents. Her mom had been a Hufflepuff while her father was a Gryffindor. They both cared so much about blood purity, but Grace honestly did not care. Her life with her parents was nice, but Hogwarts was already becoming her home.
Yes! My parents did attend Hogwarts. I think that is why they expect so much of me. They can be a bit overbearing sometimes but I love them. Did yours attend Hogwarts?
Grace was embarrassed by the ink being on her face in the minutes past. She had stained his shirt and made a horrifying introduction while black smears were on her face. Before he could start his reply to her question, Grace had to say something. She tucked the fallen strands of blonde behind her ear and spoke.
I’m so sorry about your shirt. I will buy you a new one. I feel so bad that you had to use it to get the ink off.

Oy, why did girls have to play with their hair? It was like, whether knowing it or not, they had this crazy sort of power over others by doing it. Maybe his aunt was right. Maybe he did have a thing for blondes...
Simon smiled, glad that she loved her parents and he learned that she at least came from a background of magic. How different her experience would be from his during his first year when everything was so new to him. Still, he also knew it had to be equally exciting for her to finally be able to DO everything and not just see others do it.
She had asked about his parents. "Uh, my mum was in Gryffindor," he said, leaving it at that. What else could he really say about that? Nothing.
Simon looked down at his shirt which did now have some ink stains on it but he shook his head. "I've got more than just this shirt. It's okay, really. My choice. Besides, it'll remind me of the tie I met my new friend, Grace Swan, in the Library at Hogwarts during the first week of a new school year.
He really didn't need her to replace it. He had wanted to remove the ink and by doing so, he knew what the consequences of that action would be.
