Gabriella sprinted down the corridor, her books clutched tightly to her chest. Her day had been bad - incredibly, unbelievably bad. Ink stains drenched her robes, and she left a trail of blue liquid behind her wherever she went. The sooner I can get to my dorm, the better, she thought angrily to herself. That way nothing worse can happen.
She thought back to her Potions class, how the professor had stood up and humiliated her in front of a hoard of jeering Slytherins.
She thought back to her Transfiguration class, where, instead of turning a needle into a matchstick, she had somehow managed to poke a Hufflepuff in the eye with it. At least he was reasonable, she shuddered.
And finally, she thought back to her Charms class, where instead of levitating a feather, she had levitated her ink bottle, and spilt it all over herself.
Only the second bottle of ink you've spilt over yourself this year, Gabby, she said to herself. Why not be a bit more clumsy next time, eh? She ground her teeth in anger as she flounced round the corner, still travelling as fast as she could make her legs move.

The Seeds of Conflict
Tory stormed down the corridor angrily, shifting her gold and dark red tie back and forth on her neck as she went. To say the least, she was very angry. Which was unusual for her, she had a strange talent of keeping in her temper. But not today. Today, steam was practically coming out of her ears. All because she had just overslept. She woke up feeling a bit sick and tired, and it didn’t make it much better that she missed breakfast. In potions when the professor asked “Can somebody tell me a physical potion?” She sleepily rose her hand and answered “Leviosa” The whole class burst into laughter. Then in Herbology some plant triggered her stomach, and she just had to throw up in front of the entire class. Everybody laughed, for the second time that day.Interacting with @Gabriella Haworth
Now, Tory was very mad at herself. All she could hear was the other students taunting laughs. She was mad she had let them walk all over her like that. She sped down the halls, and turned the corner quickly. She just didn’t see the Ravenclaw girl coming the same way fast, and before she knew it, she was sitting on the floor uncomfortably. She sat up and dusted herself off. “Watch where your going.” She sneered meanly to the girl, who looked just as upset.

"Well sorry," muttered Gabriella irritably. "I obviously didn't mean to, did I?"
She snarled at the Gryffindor girl who stood in front of her. Excellent, she thought to herself. Just excellent. Just what I need! To bump into someone while covered in ink. As if my day could get any worse, after all the disasters I've had to endure today. It irritated Gabriella even further that all three occasions had been her fault. Who had made her potion orange, causing the teacher to mock her? She had. Who had uttered the wrong words, causing the needle to fly into another student's eye? She had. Who had thrust her wand at the wrong object, causing blue ink to swamp her like a flood? She had. It was all her fault, and she hated that fact, as much as she tried to deny it.
A blob of blue ink dripped onto the Gryffindor's shoe. Usually, Gabriella would have apologised, but not today. Today had not blessed her enough for such basic things as apologies to be warranted. She tried to push past, to get to her dorm, but the annoying Gryffindor stood in her way. "Could you get out of the way, please," she asked, pointedly. A polite enough sentence written down, but the 'please' held undertones of sarcasm and annoyance.

"Well sorry," muttered the girl "I obviously didn't mean to, did I?" She had ink splattered all over, and Tory could see a trail of ink all the way down the corridor. Tory scowled and ink dripped on her shoe, which usually she would easily excuse, but today it got on her last nerve. "And now my shoe is ruined. Gee, thanks." She waited for an apology, but it never happened. Wanting to go cozy up with a mice book in her comfortable Gryffindor common room, she decided to cross her arms and block the Ravenclaw's way instead. She didn't like being mean, and she barely ever was, but today she just couldn't help it. "Could you get out of the way, please." the Ravenclaw asked, a tone of sarcasm in her voice. "No." Tory said simply, her arms still crossed over her chest defiantly.Interacting with @Gabriella Haworth
They both stood there for a minute, just angrily glaring. Tory couldn't tell if the girl was having a horrible day as well, and that this whole affair had just set off both of their last nerves, or she was just naturally rude. Tory suddenly heard a stampede of footsteps coming up behind them, and before she knew it she had been trampled on top of the girl while a rush of other students hurriedly went on their way busily threw the corridor.

"What are you doing?" spat Gabriella as the Gryffindor girl fell on top of her and elbowed her in the ribs. "Can't you just fall in the other direction? Maybe not on top of me?" She scrambled to her feet and glared at her. She knew she was being totally unreasonable, but she was surprised to discover that she was past caring. After a whole catastrophe-filled day of pretending to be carefree, this was the very final straw for Gabriella, and she was determined not to be unnecessarily nice this time. As she stood up, she laughed cruelly at the blue ink splattered all over the other girl, before stopping herself.
She hated herself for being mean, but she couldn't help it. All she wanted to do was let her rage out, and she was considering readying herself to punch her.
No, that would only make things a lot worse. She stopped herself just in time, and instead decided to battle it out by talking to the girl, instead. They say words speak louder than actions... or was it the other way round? Gabriella couldn't remember, and supposed different people believed different things with regards to that quote.
"Who are you anyway?" she demanded. "And why won't you just get out of my way?"

Glaring down at her now also blue ink stained uniform, Tory reluctantly snapped "Tory. Tory Williamson. You are?" She then paused, because the truth was, she had absolutely no idea why she was blocking the girl. In fact, she had absolutely no idea she was there in the first place. Starting to think about her bad decisions, Tory thought about apologizing and being a bit kinder. Then her angry side kicked in again. What are you thinking, Tory? You're so stupid. She bumped into you! Don't let your guard down now! Her sub-conscious yelled at her, and she instantly responded "Oh, well, I'm not sure! Maybe because you bumped into me and that really set me off! I've had such a bad day you have no idea!" She sighed and let her arms down, still fuming mad. As more students walked passed the two of them bickering, Tory realized how ridiculous this must look. Two first-year girls, one Ravenclaw and one Gryffindor, both covered in blue ink and tired, quarreling over a very idiotic reason. Tory probably looked even worse, still feeling a bit ill from earlier. She even thought she heard a group of third-years snickering as they passed. Either way, Tory was a bomb. A bomb that was about to go off.Interacting with @Gabriella Haworth

The Seeds of Conflict
"You think YOU'VE had a bad day?" screamed Gabriella. Have you proved yourself a failure at even the simplest spells? Have you been humiliated three times in one day, in front of your entire class? Have you run out of ink because of the amount of times you've dropped yours? I think not, somehow."
She knew she was being mean, unbelievably so considering how nice she usually was. But everyone's got to have rivalries...
Her words echoed in her mind as she stood there, fuming at Tory. Have you humiliated yourself three times in one day... Four times, now, she realised. Humiliation - her worst fear - was happening to her again as students from all years walked past and snickered as they fought. Is this who I am? thought Gabriella. The immature first-year covered in ink? She felt her face go pale as she realised that - yes, she was. And she was determined to change that.
Maybe I should think of something witty to say, rather than just yelling, Gabriella thought to herself. But try as she might, she couldn't think of anything to say to her. "Oh, and I'm Gabriella Haworth," she snapped. "And it's such a pleasure to meet you," she added, sardonically.

The Seeds of Conflict
Surprised by Gabriella's sudden screaming, Tory stumbled backwards but caught herself just in time so she didn't fall. Phew, that would have been quite embarrassing. She thought to herself, relieved.
She didn't quite know what to say next, but decided she should probably come up with something to tease Gabriella about. Hm, what about her long nose...no wait that's too mean...her dark hair? No, no, how am I going to be snarky about hair? She knew she was overthinking it, so she just blurted without thinking, "You disgusting little-" And then she realized. She was going to call Gabriella a mudblood. She left her mouth hanging open, knowing she couldn't say that. She could never, ever, say that. In fact, she didn't actually know if Gabriella was muggle-born, she just assumed based on how Gabriella had described her day, but it didn't matter. Her best friend was muggle-born. She couldn't say that. She wouldn't say that, and she didn't know why she almost said that. Tory may have a temper sometimes, but she surely was not just a copy of Draco Malfoy.
"You disgusting little rat!" Tory eventually snapped instead. "I bet you just think you're soo smart don't you, Haworth."

The Seeds of Conflict
"Rat?" laughed Gabriella. That's the best you can come up with?" She was surprised at how she was able to come up with a reply this quickly. "I do hope you realise I take no offence whatsoever from what you just said." She paused for a moment, trying to channel all her available retorts through her brain all at once to work out which to say. Should she continue mocking Tory's 'disgusting little rat' outburst, or create a new insult to hurl right back at her? She decided against the latter - the only insult she could think of was 'you quintessence of dust', and that one she had stolen from Shakespeare. She wasn't even sure what 'quintessence' meant. Instead, she chose to continue laughing at the feeble insult Tory had thrown her.
"Anyway, in what way am I disgusting? Just because I'm covered in ink? Well, now you are too, and that's your own fault for not getting out of my way when I bloody asked you to!" She gasped internally. Bloody, she had used the word bloody. She knew it wasn't a real swear word, but even so, she wouldn't have wanted her mother to hear that. "Plus, you're even more disgusting, because - you're short!"
She stopped talking abruptly, aghast at what she had just said. Short? That was far more extreme than calling someone a disgusting little rat, and broke all the moral rules she stood by and guarded carefully - never judge someone by their external appearance. At least, when Tory had called her a disgusting little rat, she could have been referring to her personality (although Gabriella doubted it very much), while Gabriella had just made it clear that she was mocking Tory's height. There are far worse things about her than her height, Gabriella growled to herself, in her mind. She has all the charisma of a frog. She paused her train of thought. Hmm. I'll use that one next time. Much better...
She pushed her internal monologue aside. If anyone heard it out loud, they would assume she was a tyrant, and never want to talk to her again. In reality, she was very insecure about her own height - standing at least a head higher than all her peers at 5'3. If anything, drawing attention to Tory's height was just drawing attention to her own. And a crowd was beginning to gather all around them - she could make no wrong moves if she wished not to be humiliated.
Unfortunately, she had already made a wrong move. A very wrong move.

The Seeds of Conflict
Tory's cheeks turned a shade of beet red as Gabriella called her out on her lame comment. She was right, it was pretty lousy, but Tory shook off the humiliation, knowing that Gabriella would be sobbing and running away if she had called her the other thing Tory almost called her. "Anyway, in what way am I disgusting? Just because I'm covered in ink? Well, now you are too, and that's your own fault for not getting out of my way when I bloody asked you to!" Gabriella said, Tory turning a bright red color yet again.
Gabriella went on, "Plus, you're even more disgusting, because - you're short!" Tory knew Gabriella was trying to be rude and make a snarky comment, but instead Tory burst out in laughter. "I'm short?!" Tory boomed through more mean giggles. She agreed Gabriella was tall, very tall, but she wasn't very short either. She wasn't a skyscraper, nor a gnome scurrying through the corridors. In fact, she was quite proud of her height. 4'11 at age 12. Tory considered herself lucky, nobody ever teased "How's the weather up there?" or patted her head as they walked by.
Seeing Gabriella's face, Tory realized she probably thought she had really done something. Really hurt Tory's feelings. Really made an impact. "Short? Yes, yes, I agree for suuure." She said very sarcastically "I'll have you know..your personality reminds me of trash bins and dried out fruit." She barked, smirking widely.
