Do Not Disturb
Please Knock if you Must
This was the blunt sign which was posted upon the black walnut door of Professor Chiadovini's office. After choosing to knock upon the door, and receiving no answer but a click of an unlocking deadbolt, the student in question would push the door in by its knocker, entering the office itself. Beyond the heavy black door lay an intimidating, yet quaintly homely office, a harsh, jarring shift from the open and often stifling classroom. When he had first been presented with it, Leonardo had been cross that it appeared to be empty and too small for his tastes, but upon finding himself in the small, confined area, he felt far more secure; cozy, even.

Like the exterior classroom, dark and somewhat velveteen was the noticeable style of the office. On the far side of the room, a curving wall, sat a stereotypical teacher’s desk, black spruce, and bearing eloquent markings and carvings of both nature and imagery of Astronomy and starscapes. Within the grain of the surface of the desk itself were little moving stars and planets, shifting and changing in pattern by some latent magic cast upon it. One would immediately be assaulted by the scent of black coffee, which came from a coffee cup steaming on the aforementioned desk. The walls appeared to be the typical stone, but it would be nearly impossible to tell with the amount of tapestries and black curtains which hung all around the area for complementing texture. The tapestries were covered in a thin layer of dust, which did nothing to mar the sparkling threads of silver, gold, and dark hued imagery, but gave testament and implied that the Professor had pulled them directly out of a medieval or gothic world. Surrounded by the most magnificent of them was a black walnut shelf, filled with volumes and other appropriate items used for Astronomy and star-gazing, including a telescope, orreries, sextants, and other objects of the sort. The most notable book spines, however, included the novels “Macbeth”, “The Most Dangerous Game”, “Hamlet”, “Twice-Told Tales”, “The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe”, and “The Scarlet Letter”, among other similar works.

The room itself was dark, whether by the barely burning wicks of lamps on the wall and a singular candle on the desk, or from the chilling presence of the Professor himself, many pupils didn’t seem to know, which resulted in more than a few sensations of insecurity and slight fear. There were few pieces of furniture, save for the desk on the other side of the room and a burgundy velvet armchair in one corner, near the bookshelves. Velvet pillows weren’t the only velvet items which could be found in the room, and in truth, as well as many dark throw pillows strewn about the room and found in a nearby trunk, there were a pair of classroom stools which sat before the Professor’s desk for any delinquents he may have had to speak to. There were no rugs, the floor bare to expose the original stone foundations. Rustic and Victorian, two adjectives which perfectly described Professor Chiadovini.

Leonardo was sitting on the far side of the room, in the velvet armchair, and with a large tome in his hands. His silver eyes were scanning the pages and his brow was creased in total concentration. His elegant wand lay on a sidetable at his left side, openly visible, as if a warning to deter anyone from attacking without provocation. Upon hearing the footsteps of the newcomer entering his domain, Leonardo’s eyes would flick from his book to settle upon the newcomer. Professor Chiadovini would not put the book down, but would instead raise an eyebrow quizzically, as if to silently and irritably enquire: ‘For what reason do you feel the need to disturb me?’
OOC Note:
Please enter one student at a time. If I am currently enduring a student, refrain from posting until my previous conversation has passed or until a month has passed, after which I will 'politely' usher the previous student out so that I can get on with my day.

For papertrail purposes, the date on which you post your entrance is the date on which the interaction occurs, unless you state explicitly otherwise. Please note that you cannot claim a date to be before Sunday December 13, 2020, as Leonardo did not enter the school until just after that date.

Interest

Tristan walked into the open door of the office. The new Astronomy professor was intriguing and Tristan was certain any encounter with Professor Chiadovini would be enlightening.
Tristan was calm like a snake, like the cold prince Leonard had once described him has. Professor Chiadovini couldn’t have come here because he wanted to teach children. He was cynical as Tristan was. Cold and mysterious, quite beautiful in fact. The Professor was Italian without doubt but he spoke English far more naturally than most. The only explanations Tristan could conjure up was that Professor Chiadovini had English family. Tristan speculated and decided against speaking Italian as his first words to the stranger. Tristan did not know enough Italian to do it justice. French, Korean, Spanish, and English, not Italian. Despite this, Tristan knew that he wouldn’t have to pretend to empathise or be like the common goldfish with this professor. Professor Chiadovini was special, so was he. He debated what words he would first speak. Something about the stars, and something about answers would be mysterious and intriguing, Tristan was curious if Chiadovini was a muggle supporter or a blood purist. Tristan himself though supported muggles, truly only cared about Edward.
Thus he asked his question,”Do the stars give you the answers you seek,Professor Chiadovini?

It was a relatively quiet night. Sundays were the one sacred day that Leonardo kept holy for himself; a time where he would not be disturbed by any individuals, whether they were asking a question on homework assignments, or having classes in which he would have to deal with the common student body. It was a day of rest, as the Holy Book implied, a day of rest that the professor felt that he needed dearly.

He had been grading homework for about an hour and a half, simultaneously impressed and disgusted by the intelligence or lack thereof in the younger generation, and he was now on his second cup of coffee, a book which he had been distracting himself briefly with left open at his side. The sign outside his door should have deterred anyone who wanted to come by... but apparently it had not deterred well enough, as a knock on the door had testified to.

With a lazy motion, the door unlocked and Leonardo focused upon his work, expecting to hear the voice of a higherup speaking to him; a professor or perhaps a Head of House come to remark upon his work or his methods of teaching. Perhaps a complaint from his charges that had up to this point been unchecked? But certainly, the Seer had not been expecting to hear the voice of a boy, asking him what he thought of the stars.

Frozen for a second, grey eyes looked upon the boy, meeting the youth before he slowly put his quill aside, straightening in his seat from his slouched position and pressing the tips of his fingers together. In a voice which possessed British pointedness and Italian lilt, he began: ”I beg your pardon, young man?” He quietly asked, his voice no louder than a whisper. Of course he had heard what the youth had said, but what was more pressing on his mind was that the boy had come in on a Sunday night, a day that had explicitly been left out of his office hours. Still, it would be rude not to humor. It would be rude to turn him out and force him to leave. At this point, the professor was required to make a proper conversation with the intruder, whether he liked it or not. ”The stars offer many answers, whether or not I am seeking for them. It is a matter of sifting through the extraneous and indentifying the specific.” As he spoke, the shadows in the corner of the room may have seemed to twitch.

Tipping his head, Leonardo assessed the situation. It was not quite curfew, otherwise the boy would be in his common room. There were several ways he could foresee dealing with this obstacle. Perhaps the most direct would be the most beneficial.

“Mister... Pardon, I do not remember your name. Indulge me?” After receiving an answer, Leonardo would continue, clasping his hands and making steady, almost hypnotic eye contact with the student. “I do not know how complete your studies were in reading, but should my memory serve, the sign outdoors says that I am not available for meetings on Sundays. Am I correct?” His voice had still not changed, that honeyed, silken tone prevalent in his words. Leaning back in his chair, Leonardo picked up the book, sensing a conversation that he desperately wished that he could not be a part of. ”Unless there is something urgently required of me, something conducive to danger, I would kindly ask you to leave.”

Would the boy leave? Probably not, but it was at least a possibility.

Tristan had certainly forgotten of the day being Sunday and that was not the impression that he desired Professor Chiadovini to have of him. But, he was indeed surprised that the Professor did not banish him from the office. Since the truth was not at all conducive to his mask of personality, Tristan offered his name first in the same cold manner that Professor Chiadovini spoke, “Theramin, sir” but refused to look at the professor in his eyes as if to present a form of social anxiety which Tristan supposed he truly had. After all, Tristan was averse to human communication at times, meaning those who could not stand his coldness, his masks, his refusal of emotion. Tristan quietly said, “I’m sorry sir, I came because I need to know whether the stars can give me answers. I can see the thestrals and the Dark. The rest of the world must think I’m evil. I can speak to the snakes sir. I know Lord Voldemort spoke it sir. You must know the burdens of a magical gift sir. No one seems to understand the dark things I see sir. I had to ask you that first question because no one listens to me unless I seem intelligent sir.” Tristan said this as if it was bursting out of him in jolts. This was how he was in the past before Edward died. He dreamt dark things almost every night but once he accepted it, only then did they disappear.

Well, damn him for thinking that an open-ended response would help him slither out of a situation like this. Of course it wouldn't. Resigning himself, Leonardo placed the book aside, marking it with a black ribbon before quietly stirring his coffee and continuing to look at the boy, who had introduced himself as Theramin. Mister Theramin appeared shy, perhaps anxious, as his fast words and his changing tones attested to. Leonardo knew the feeling all too well, but yet his gaze did not waver, curiously observing the features of the lad like a cat watching a mouse.

Holding back an exasperated sigh, the Seer instead inhaled deeply, collecting his thoughts as the boy's words and ideas came. They came quickly, albeit without pattern, 'jumping' from star to star, as it were. Star-talking, was what Leonardo would call it; not being able to focus on one thing and wanting answers for everything in the exact moment. Theramin spoke of many things; of Thestrals and Darkness, of speaking to Snakes and the evils of Lord Voldemort, long dead though he was.

Knowing the burdens of a magical gift.

It was at this, the Seer's attention was fully piqued. "You mean to tell me that you are a Parselmouth." He concluded quickly, without a tone of shock or formality in his voice.
"You are a Parselmouth, for you claim to speak with snakes, and you fear what others may think of you should you reveal this certain... gift." Ah, and therein lie the rub. "A rare gift-- a hereditary gift-- but a gift nonetheless. Perhaps a curse, if you are so blind to perceive it that way, but a talent." That was, unless Theramin was putting him on for the sake of entertainment. Regardless; he had been asked for advice, and Leonardo was not one to dissapoint. "Think of it as such, and nothing more, nor less. You never know when this... curse or talent may be of more use than you previously thought it to be. Unless you are putting me on and lying through your teeth." The last sentence was more of a growl than the cool persona utilized earlier.

Gloss over the Darkness, the Thestrals, and the possible lies for now. The stars offering answers. The moon was at its first quarter tonight, its half-lit radiance soon to illuminate the night sky. As for the winter constellations; Orion, Taurus, Cetus, Gemini... they were half finished with their reigns over the northern hemisphere. Truth be told, tonight was a lovely night to look out at the stars. No mists, no fogs, no clouds. Clear as a bell-tone. "I think it not a matter of intelligence, Mister Theramin, but you seem to insinuate a desire for a Diviner's favor." He remarked shortly, his finger tapping the table lightly. "A Diviner's favor for methods of understanding these visions that you claim. Something that Miss Kiblitzer may be better suited for. What you can expect to find here is a revelation of moon cycles, star patterns, and zodiac horoscopes." He dared not mention that he was a Seer, lest he be flooded with pleas for tarot readings, Ouija seances, or other petty methods of foresight. "Should you wish to have a daily horoscope for your sign, I can oblige that." Sometimes it was the small things, the light tap of guidance, that could do an individual good. "Would such counsel do you pleasure for the moment?"

To ascertain and understand. This was the alleged purpose of the boy's coming to him; the newblood, the new, strange, black-clad professor with an aura of terror which constantly veiled him. He claimed that he needed company, and at that, Leonardo nearly scoffed; company indeed! He was the wrong person to contact for such comforts.

Theramin claimed that Leonardo did not care for feelings, and to this, Leonardo's finger tapped slightly faster. Though his face never betrayed it, he was watching more and more, carefully, watching for a slip, a miss... And he found it. He found it in the young eyes, at last.

Admiration for the Dark Lords, the supposed villains of the wizarding world. The famed wandmaker, and the most renowned Slytherin that the world had ever come to know. Though he spoke not a word, silently the Professor regaled the tales of the two. The boy claimed he felt a villain confessing; Leonardo acknowledged that perhaps he was not the only 'villain' in the office. "They are a special breed, aren't they?" A wry smile began to form, parting lips slightly to reveal a small grin. "After all, you cannot have a hero without a villain... Nor can you have a complete world without people who dare to challenge its restraints." Devil's advocate. One of Leonardo's favorite patrons to play. It was a special advocate, one who challenged and assured, and an advocate that promoted growth and change. Sometimes... sometimes that advocate was one that the world needed desperately, especially when there were those who were frightened to change the formality.
Fearless Activated
Then came the hissing of a snake from the mouth of Theramin, along with the sly smile, a new expression evident as the words of Parseltongue rang in the room, hissing into silence in the tapestry-garbed walls. At this, Leonardo's smile vanished as quickly as it had come. As frightening perhaps a snake's words could prove to be to the common spine, to him it was nothing but another obstacle, yet another thing that proved itself to be a distraction.

Rising from his seat, slowly, yet sternly, Leonardo glowered down at the boy, his eyes flickering between visible fury and simmering rage. "'Should you wish to speak to me, do it in a common tongue. Else, save it for the rest of your brethren when conversing in snakiest manner." Quieter than the rest of his words, yet ringing with authority, his hunch of the talent confirmed.

He was not angry with the boy; far from it. It was the open flaunting of the ability which had ignited the Seer's anger. He had never shared his ability with others... let alone teachers. Should he have been flattered to have this boy reveal the secret to him? "I am no snake, save for the house I hail from. You will find no serpent to charm here." His eyes flicking to the door, he nodded to it. "If I have given you what you wanted, be it challenge or answers, please, leave me to my work. I have no time for these... foolish trivialities."

Leonardo sat once again, nodding to Theramin as he picked up his quill, bowing his head with the last ounce of patience he had assembled for himself. "Good Evening. I hope you have found what you are looking for, and I wish you only the best." Sarcasm, obviously.

Tristan blinked his eye. That was quite a reaction. He didn’t expect to irk the man, but it seems he had gotten quite used to his unreacting friends, cold and princely like him. He bowed with the utmost respect, his body bending forward at the waist.
I am quite ashamed that I have offended you, Professor. I offer my deepest apologies as the heir to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Theramin.” His voice cold and unwavering, mask on.
Tristan said the statement above while he thought of how Parseltongue had angered the person he was talking to. It definitely wasn’t fear, nor was Professor Chiadovini lying when he said he believed Parseltongue was just a gift and should be treated as such. Maybe, Chiadovini had some secret burden as well. He could be part goblin, as he was quite tall in stature, he could be part Veela, for he did have a magical beauty beyond normal. None of that was very likely however. Tristan knew that there were Seers in the wizarding word so that was a possibility, as the gift of being a Seer was often also a curse.
You have given me valuable information, Professor Chiadovini, so I thank you. I now understand that you hail from Slytherin. So do I. I have behaved far too much as a snake today, Edward would not be proud of me. Leonard would
Tristan then chuckled bitterly, it’s sound echoing.
Could he daily feel a stab of hunger for you, and find nourishment at the very sight of you
Nevermore quoth the Raven, Nevermore.

Tristan let himself fall into the velvet chair by the bookcase, on purpose of course.
My apologies, when I think I often find myself quoting muggle literature.” Tristan said in a tone with which anyone could tell he meant the quotes and was lying.
I am unaware of the beautiful, and uncomprehending in the face of the happy, aren’t I,Professor” Tristan said repeating the first words he had spoken on the Hogwarts Train.”I have built up forts, yet my heart is frozen. I must confess that I came in here hoping for a distraction, hoping that lies and a game of cunning would be enough to satiate my isolation.
His voice was cold as usual but the words he spoke were meaningful. It was easier to say them to a stranger. Everyone he’d met often received the same treatment. Yes, Edward had triggered the freezing but Tristan had different before then as well. He realized that maybe, he was destined for this cold but great world. He had allies in the Slytherin world.
I apologize, I should not place my grief on your shoulders but you were a stranger who I’d hope would not show pity. Everyone who knew me before, pities me Professor and pity is something I do not desire.

He was letting the rage simmer inside, doing everything in his power to not snap in front of a student. He had only been hired hardly a week ago, and could not risk being fired early for poor conduct. He would have to grin and bear it for now, until he was held in better favor.

An apology, formal, if perhaps a bit conceited, came next, and Leonardo's brow raised. The cold voice, not unlike when the boy had first come in, had returned. A thankful statement, for the Astronomy professor offering advice and thoughts, confirmation that he belonged to Slytherin, and then claiming that certain individuals would not have or would have been happy with the conduct that he had acted in. It was of no interest to Leonardo, who had by this point averted his eyes, reduced to his former silence and focus in grading the countless papers which laid in front of him.

The boy laughed, and Leonardo glanced up with dull eyes. Would he ever leave?

A quote from Mister Poe. The Raven.

Putting the quill aside, Leonardo clasped his hands in front of himself again, listening intently to the claim that the boy appreciated the Muggle literature. Though his eye twitched a little when the Slytherin collapsed into his velvet armchair, Leonardo held his tongue, desperate to maintain civility. The boy spoke more of his own difficulties, and with a sigh, Leonardo pinched the bridge of his nose, rubbing his eyes and trying to remember where he had put his coffee. It was getting too late for this nonsense.

Still, perhaps there was a last bit of guidance he was capable of offering, and before the thoughts fully crossed his mind, he spoke. "The finest authors and the greatest heroes suffered from their demons as well, young snake." He muttered, perhaps hesitantly adding an afterthought to the confrontation he had endured. "We all suffer from demons, but it is up to us to decide what powers they hold over us and which powers we take for ourselves. I sense a troubled mind that I cannot console, nor perhaps you desire to be consoled, and so I can only offer you with twisted wisdom. Do what you will, but ensure that you do not regret your actions. Slytherin will see to you well; I only wish that you find what you desire the most by her guidance."

He was quite finished now. Standing once again, he crossed to the chair, extending his hand to the door. "If you will pardon me, Mister Theramin, I have work that I must attend to. Please return to the Slytherin dorms. Perhaps the Giant Squid will be found in the window tonight as well." He tried to muster a smile, but only an uncomfortable grimace formed.

Guiding the boy to the door and bidding a final, proper goodnight, Leonardo closed and locked it, untouched by the encounter, but eager to continue his appointed job to the school.

It was the day after break, and Willow was already on a mission armed with tea and cookies. It had become a signature for her for whenever she visited professors, as a "Sorry I'm taking up valuable time have this." Some seemed to love it, some seemed to just be neutral at best about it. Mostly neutral so far. Actually... all neutral. But it didn't stop her. There was a question itching at her Second Year brain, one that had not been answered because she had failed to ask. Was this not a place to learn? Professor Kibitzer had told her a little bit about the Ministry of Magic, not really what was in it at all, any departments, really she was still clueless about the whole Ministry.

There was one specific department that she was sure just had to exist, and if it did she had a lot more follow-up questions. If it didn't, there were still many follow-up questions. She just had a lot of questions. There was a concern though with this new professor. Professor Karr seemed approachable but this one... was less so. He was actually kind of scary. It made Willow pay extra attention, and made her sit up just a bit straighter in class.

Nevertheless, she found herself in front of the Astronomy door, not too early before his class but not too late where they wouldn't have time to talk. With a deep breath, she gently rapped her knuckles on the door. For a moment, she didn't think anything would happen. Maybe he wasn't in, but she heard it unlock. After another moment, waiting for him to open it, she wondered if that was his way of telling her to come in. Slowly she pushed open the door and peeked into the room. "Professor Chiadovini?" It only took a couple of sweeping glances for her eyes to catch on him. He definitely looked like he didn't want visitors. She almost tucked tail and ran, but no. She would stand her ground.

"Is it ok if I ask you a couple questions about the Ministry of Magic? Astronomy related, of course." She stood only a couple feet in front of the door and lightly lifted the package in her hands that was wrapped up in a celestial cloth. "I brought you Earl Gray Moonlight, and some of my grandma's famous cookies as a thank you." A small polite smile stayed uncomfortably on her face waiting for the ok to approach him more.
