A sort of lost and found with @Henry Knight
He was currently in the North Tower, location of the Divination Classroom, Ancient Ruins, and where the Caretaker's Office resided. But wasn't the Owlery around here somewhere? That was his destination. He had a letter in hand, packed nicely into an envelope and already properly addressed and stamped. There must be a drop box or something there.
Simon turned to his left. No, that wasn't right. He turned to his right. ...Hadn't he been down this corridor before? He sighed. At this rate he wasn't even sure if he'd be able to get back to his Common Room. What if no one ever found him and he was stuck in this part of the Castle for good until he starved to death?!
Simon smiled a little at the thought. Not likely. While starvation was far from happening, hunger was something Simon Kincaid was accustomed to. Must be because he was a growing boy. He was rather tall for his age with a larger build. He had a lot of strength too. Never in his wildest dreams would he figure his hunger was due to a part of him that never felt fully satisfied.
"For mercy's sake," he muttered to himself, walking further forward. He felt as though he was getting no where but actually he had now entered the West Tower and was closer to the Owlery than he realized but right now it just felt like he'd never get there.

Accidentally finding @Simon Kincaid
The morning before class, the twelve year old should be in the great hall catching up with friends and eating breakfast however the boy wanted some time alone with his thoughts before heading off to class so he made a detour to the owlery where he knew no one else was because of all the other mornings he went there to be alone however that morning wasn't going to be the same Henry was about to find out.
As the second year came up from the eerie darkness and moist area known as the dungeons where his common room sat and turned away from the great hall already armed with a shiny red apple for his breakfast he walked through the castle and out on the grounds where he took in a fresh of breath air in the bright clear sky before choosing to enter the overly from the outside as he climbed the stairs up ready to eat his the red apple still in his hand.
The boy shifted the messager type bag on his shoulder and pulled at his slytherin robe which was unbuckled before stepping into the owlery and finding another.
Henry was taken back as he looked around and noticed there was only the boy no friends with him and he didn't appear to be sending a letter so he had to wonder why this boy was here who from his robes was a hufflepuff.
Not going to be rude, Henry gave a small smile before saying " hello," the boy then waved to him sort of before going across the room to the window and leaning his back on it as he looked toward the boy again whom Henry thought might have been lost as he spoke " sending a letter?"

"Well, sort of..." he said as he looked around. "You see, I've sent some letters to my aunt and I've always had this one Hufflepuff girl do it because she has made herself like the postal worker of our house... but she's not feeling well today but I still wanted to get my letter out to my Aunt Maggie and...." he paused to look down at the envelope in his hand.
"I don't even know if I've done the postage right. I just sort of...slathered it in stamps. Hope it's enough," he muttered. "She handled that too, I suppose. I mean, I never put the stamps on when handing them off." He was flustered and looked around. So weird.
"You'd think the drop box would be in a more convenient location...like the Great Hall or something. I've looked and I don't see one here but I heard the Owlery is where you deliver letters so ...here I am. I've had no luck finding the post box though, only had a few of these owls try and swoop at my head a time or two."
Very odd. Everything about this was odd. Simon didn't realize that the owls delivered the mail and instead just thought there was some sort of post office box there in that location. He was showing quite clearly how little he knew of the wizarding world. "Why does the school need an Owlery anyway? Are these like...magical owls that one would use later on in Care of Magical Creatures?" he knew that class was in the upcoming years.

Sending a letter with @Simon Kincaid
Henry listened to the boy talk about how another in hufflepuff would usually send hid letters but today he had to so Henry just nodded and looked in his eyes as a way to say that he was listening to him still apple in his hand.
Henry then heard his concerns about sending a letter and how he couldn't find the drop box which Henry guessed was how muggles sent letters since he didn't know what it was as he dropped his apple gently and neatly in his messager type bag before running a hand through his hair to rid his nerves as he spoke "so stamps are sort of unnecessary here and there is no uh drop box? What is a drop box? Instead we have the owlery because we use the owls to send letters, some students have their own while others use school owls. Here-"
Henry scanned around the owlery and maybe because he was a werewolf but whatever the reason found the owl resting a few feet up and tucked in a corner away from them. The owl was a small but rather plain grey owl that Henry normally used to send his own letters but wad a Hogwarts owl as he placed his fingers in his mouth and whistled, he couldn't whistle another way as the owl opened his eyes and flew down before handing on the table between him and the other boy.
Henry then smiled toward the boy as he held out his hand with a smile " I could tie it around his leg if you want?"

Getting taught the ropes by @Henry Knight
No drop box. No postage. Owls delivered the letters.
At first Simon watched the boy as if trying to decide if he was just messing with him. There was a fellow Hufflepuff that got led down to a storage cabinet when they asked an older student for directions to Charms on the first day of class. It had been full of some kind of odd and rather awful smelling fungi and the boy just HAD to tell his story about it in the Common Room that night. That, and Simon knew from his normal schools back in London that upperclassmen sometimes liked to give underclassmen a hard time as a sort of initiation process.
"So...you tie your letter to the owl and...then..." Then what? Did the owl read to know where to take it? Did you input some sort of navigational system onto it? Was there a spell or enchantment used? Oh no, he left his wand back in his dorm...
"And they actually get it where it needs to go?" That sounded crazy. Absurd. Like magic. Ha. Everything about this place amused Simon and he smiled a little. Sometimes he was trying to find nonmagic logic in a world where it seemed anything was possible. Werewolves existed, he read up on the them in the library. The founders of the school seemed like awesome people. He had a wand and he was learning to brew potions in cauldrons. Yes. Why couldn't owls deliver mail?

Helping send a letter with @Simon Kincaid
Henry wood take the letter from the boy and smile a bit as he tied it around the owls right leg that he held out and spoke " you tell the owl who and where you are sending you letter and then they deliver," checking to make sure the letter was secure before turning to the boy and saying " yep, it's faster than muggle mail but slower then muggle technology still it's better than nothing. Just tell him where and who he's delivering it to and then he'll go."
Henry would then wait for him to tell the owl where and who he needed to deliver the letter to and also for the owl to fly out of the owlery before turning to him and saying " his name is gray and he's one of the best school owls in my opinion. I use him for all of my letters," the second year would smile at him before taking out his apple and passing it to the boy as he spoke " if you been here for as long as you think then you need it more than me plus I can't really eat in the morning anyway," almost forgetting to say his name he quickly spoke " oh I'm Henry."

Simon looked down to the apple. Sure, it was better than something sweet but he still politely declined. "No, I'm alright. Thank you though. That's kind of you to offer." Simon was used to feeling hungry. In fact, he could just eat and still feel hungry. Always hungry, but he pushed that to the back of his mind as always.
"Pleasure to meet you Henry. I'm Simon. Simon Kincaid." He took a look at the owls around him and laughed a little. "I bet that's why they were diving at me. Here I thought they were trying to take my head off or attack me for being in their space. They were probably trying to get my attention and offer up their services."
The boy had a bit of a different accent but Simon was pretty sure it was from England. "Brittish? I've met so many different people from Scotland here that sometimes I think the Scot population rules the school," which was fine. He had nothing against the Scottish. "Gotta love Scotland. Gave us Simple Mind, Snow Patrol, Chvrches, Franz Ferdinand," he named off some of the music groups he knew that were from Scotland. Music was one of his biggest passions.
He wondered if owls could deliver things like packages and boxes but most likely. He wasn't sure if that was the case but then again there was probably some kind of magic at work.
"What brings you to the Owlery? Writing someone?" he wasn't being nosy, just wanted to make conversation.

Henry nodded toward the boy with a smile before sliding the apple back into his messager type bag and looking back at the boy who now introduced himself as Simon Kincaid and made a comment about the owls that Henry had to laugh a bit to.
" It's nice to meet you Simon and yeah the owls particularly the school owls take high pride in their jobs here," Henry spoke as he looked around the owlery and at the owls that he occasionally used to send a letter since his brother owned a owl and Henry usually used her to send his replies to his brother.
Hearing his question about where he was from and probably because Henry was used to British being from godric hollow and Liverpool. The twelve year old finally heard that Simon's accent was also British as he spoke " yeah Hogwarts has a large Scottish population than anything really but yeah I'm British, liverpool to be exact. Your British to right?" Henry question before hearing his comment on Scotland that caused a chuckle from him as he spoke "I can't complain either, most of my friends are Scottish so."
" Uh no, I come to the owlery sometimes in the morning to think really," Henry spoke as he smiled toward the boy before asking him " are you a first year then not that it matters."

Wondering why the Owlery, @Henry Knight
He nodded, "From London," he said. "Part of that nearly nine million that call it home. I live in the South Kensington area if you've ever been," which may have been a possibility considering it took on average just over three hours to get from the one city to the other. Still, Simon hadn't been to Liverpool so maybe it worked the other way round for Henry.
"Yeah, first year. Still learning all the ropes as you can gather," since he was hopeless when it came to owl posts. "Everything really. The lack of technology is an adjustment but I find the alternatives to everything fascinating. I didn't know anything before I came here so there's something to learn new each and every day."
Simon took a moment to observe the Owlery a little more in depth. While quaint and quiet, he also noticed it was drafty and, well naturally, full of owls. The draft didn't bother Simon as he never seemed to get cold, but he still was curious. "No offense intended here, mate," he began, "but why here over the library or your dorm or even one of the empty classrooms?"
Maybe it was something Henry couldn't quite describe. Simon could see how this was a nice place to just be in the mornings but for him it was subconsciously due to the fact that it was in the West Tower and the sun rose in the East and set in the West so therefore no direct sunlight was coming through at this hour.

Talking with @Simon Kincaid
" Simon from South Kensington, London. Do you like it there?" Henry asked as he never been to the Kensington area of London although he has been to London because that just happened to be where Diagon alley was.
Hearing he was a first year and how he was getting used to the lack of technology allowed Henry to smiled toward him while questions suddenly popped up and spiraled around his head which he ignored which was quite difficult as he spoke " well if you ever need any other help then you can always find me Simon. I'm a second year so I don't know everything about Hogwarts but I do know lot since my brother was went here," he then couldn't help himself as he asked " technology? Has in fones.. uh phones? I heard about them but never used them, pureblood children don't really have a chance to use muggle technology uh.. would you mind telling me a bit about then Simon?"
Before the topic changed to why Henry was there ad the twelve year old looked around and wondered that himself especially since he loved the library and great lake which were two places that the boy was always at so then why was he there? A question he was about to answer as he spoke " I guess I like the quiet and view in the morning to think and I always loved animals so," Henry looked up at the owls around them before looking back toward Simon and speaking " any places you like to be to think then mate?"
