To Professor Vernatis,

Being homesick is something you, as someone who's been teaching at a boarding school for at the very least a year, probably know about. I’ve been experiencing it quite a bit lately. I’m not sure about you, but I’d take watering flowers and baking bread over the school sports in this place any day of the year. I mean, our sports amount to Formula 1 racing except it’s up in the air and the cars are cleaning supplies, a mix of basketball and football except it’s once again up in the air and with cleaning supplies, and getting abracadabra-d onto your bum while trash talking each other. And if none of those fit, there’s also classes where you learn how to abracadabra others on their bums, and I’ve learned a whole lot of trash talking from that.

By now, you’ve got the idea. For maybe the very first time in my life, I understand completely understand what people mean when they spend hours and hours doodling escape plans in their notebooks. Also, that was just a completely example. Absolutely not what I do in my free time. Anyways, you might be getting the impression I don’t exactly fancy your class. Which, I don’t, honestly. The concept of it makes me feel like I’ve just drank milk a decade past its expiration date, but that’s just the concept. The way you teach it, full of wonder and jokes and sometimes legitimately good food, it’s amazing. Even if I’m not the best, it makes the failures more bearable, even fun, sometimes. You’re one of the best teachers I’ve ever had, by far, even if the subject you teach isn’t one I put little star stickers on in my schedule. Also, that was another absolute example. Fictional, not real, absolutely nowhere near what I did on the first day of classes.

Dear Professor Mactavish,
Good morning Professor. (Or good evening depending in what time you receive this). I would like to personally thank you for being our Herbology teacher. Herbology is one of my favorite subjects, and you have done am incredible job making it interesting. I love learning about the different plants.

I am unsure how many other letters like this one you will receive, but I hope that you'll remember this one, because I want you to know that I think you are an outstanding teacher! I love both your texting style and the class of Herbology itself.color

Our of curiosity, I must ask if you have an ask time favorite magical plant. I know that it would be hard for me to choose just one though, so I totally understand if you can't choose.

I'm a first year; however, I am curious if you have a favorite year to reach. I know that I personally would probably enjoy second or seventh years the most if I was a teacher. With second years and seventh years, they are less immature than the majority of teenagers, and you can probably teach then more about herbology than you could for just a hyper first year. I mean, I don't think I'm a hyper first year, but I know a lot of forest years seem typo be pretty energetic, including myself at times.

I do have a question though. It's kind of adult, but I was wondering if you think that there might be soon magical plants that were conscious. Luke we would obviously already know if there were magical plants that could talk back to us, but could there be magical plants that were conscious but couldn't communicate back with us? Hypothetically? Just curious.

Anyway, thank you SO much for being such a wonderful professor! I really appreciate the hard work you put in to teaching us. : )

Dear Professor Zahid,
Good evening! (Or good morning I suppose depending on what time if day you read this). Hope are you dining? I hope you are well and I wanted to personally write you a letter this week to thank you for being my History of Magic teacher. I honestly wasn't expecting hosiery to be so interesting, but I love it! So far, I have enjoyed learning about the soap blizzard the most! History of Magic is one of my favorite classes and it I'd quote fascinating!

I would also like to thank you for teaching the first years some charms outside if class too! I went to the bubble producing charm lesson, and found it quite enjoyable. I appreciate the work and effort you put in to teaching us History of Magic and I think you are a MARVELOUS teacher! I always look forward to our next class!

Out of curiosity, do you have a favorite lesson to teach our so you find the whole subject equally interesting? Anyway, I'm late to breakfast, so I got to stop writing and deliever this, but thank you SO much for being such a wonderful teacher!!! I'll see you in class soon and I hippie you have An excellent rest of your day today (and every day actually for that matter)! : )

To the alarmingly terrifying Nora Professor Jensen!

Greetings dearest cousin of mine! Or should I say Professor since this is meant to showcase appreciation and all that? Calling you Professor Jensen feels strangely formal and formality isn't something I particularly like to awknowledge the existence of, so allow to disregard that unspoken rule entirely. I'll simply write to you about my appreciation for you in the style of my arguably charming self! Heck, you might not even get the chance to read this letter! It might even get buried under the mountain of letters you probably recieve on a daily basis. So rules be damned I'm going to continue this tirade of appreciation my way! Plus you know, I've heard rumours of chocolate frogs being involved which is a CONSIDERABLE bonus. Not that showcasing my appreciation isn't a bonus in itself mind you but theres just something special about something with sugar inside. So perhaps my appreciation for you is on par with my love for chocolate frogs, which if you ask me has to be the highest honour you'll ever recieve.

Now I hope you don't mind me getting a little sappy now because properly showcasing my appreciation involves a little bit of sappiness. Try not to puke from how sappy it is, that would suck immensely. I'm still pretty new to this whole wizarding magical voodoo stuff but knowing you're around helps me stop myself from freaking out 24/7. Granted I still have the occasional freak out now and then but most of the time I just remember what you told me. There's quite a few people in the same position as me after all - just like you told me! Plus the whole a wand is not on part with a twig with a snail on it but that's besides the point. To get back on topic it's reassuring to know that I'm not entirely alone in this world I'm still not entirely sure about, especially knowing that you're right there alongside me. I know I may mildly bully you a lot and call you old...but you know I don't mean it. I'm far too glad that you're here, doing all the work that you do to even consider the fact that you're as old as a dinosaur. Kidding! Probably. I'm still convinced you're not entirely of this realm you know.

Now, I know you would probably tell me off for putting off doing homework for so long in the pursuit of both appreciation and chocolate frogs so I'll make this brief. Thanks for being here and thanks for working so hard. I look up to you a lot, even if you're a dinosaur. Maybe a T-Rex..or the weird flying one!

Dear, Professor Eide

I know you probably don't know me or anything but my name is Henry Knight and I always loved your class. Mainly I loved creatures but ever since I came to Hogwarts I wanted to take your class, I always been fantasize my any type of creatures and before Hogwarts I would read and learn about them to no extent and I would also interact with them! When I can that is, I couldn't do that a lot but there were times and I still memorized every fact about them in books!

So when Alan came up with his Professor Appreciation Assemble, I thought I would write to you because your class is amazing and to work or teach in something about your passion with animals/creatures sounds like a dream. Is it? Anyway I would like to thank you for teaching the care of magical creatures class at Hogwarts and even through I'm only a second year and don't know much about your teaching, I know your classroom through I go there almost everyday, but anyway I still bet your an bloody amazing professor and I can't wait to have you next year!

That is unless you could by chance pull a few strings and get me in the class this year? I'm smart enough and mature enough to handle the extra classes and if the third years can have more classes then shouldn't the second years or certain second years to?

Sorry, just something to think about I guess again thanks for being a bloody amazing care of magical creatures professor.

Letter one

Ileen had immediately known to whom her letter should be addressed. In fact, she felt sort of ashamed that she hadn’t thought of that before. The first year at Hogwarts had been tough, but when she thought about it there had been an event that had changed her whole path. A conversation that had so much impact on all her actions and decisions afterwards. It seemed appropriate to thank that one person who had shown her a perspective for her life. So she grabbed a parchment, quill and ink and started writing.

Dear Professor Vernatis,

I don't know if you remember, but last year I came to you to ask about my family. I was hoping that you could help me to reveal these crimes, which I have been accused of all my life without having committed them myself. Although you didn't have an answer to that, you gave me a much more valuable insight, even though I may not have understood it then. You believed in me and showed me that I can decide what I want to do and that I am not condemned to repeat the same mistakes my parents made. That I can make my own name by doing what I think is good and right. I have tried to live up to that and base my decisions on it. I am working to become a healer and in some situations I have chosen to help my classmates instead of just leaving them behind.
What I mean to say is that you have given me a perspective and a goal and I think I like the new name Knight. Thank you very much for taking the time for me. It's nothing you had to do and I appreciate it very much. I just realised that I never thanked you for it. So thank you very much. I have always liked Charms, but now I will try even harder to show you that I am serious.

Ileen wasn’t done yet. She had another person in mind she wanted to write to. But this time, it would be a different kind of appreciation. There were many people in this school she could life without, but this Professor was something different. They hadn’t had the best start and she wanted to tell him her opinion. Hopefully he would get her sarcastic tone...

Dear Professor Iwasaki,

Stepping into responsibility is for sure one way to grow with the challenge - after all it’s know that practice makes perfect. So I at least hope for Ravenclaw that you are taking this task seriously. I honestly was a bit surprised when I learned that you wanted to be the next head of House. You have my respect for that!
And the Ravens should be happy. So am I. Really, it’s the first time in my life I am glad I’m not in Ravenclaw. After all you are a very good role model: Your greetings in the morning are heartwarming and your politeness and attitude to support those students in need is also outstanding. You deal very well with constructive feedback and are not tired of improving one in return, so our education is very important to you. We can be happy for the open door and comfortable seats in your office, calling for those people who need support and someone to talk to.
Honestly, thank you for taking care of the students who are up to no good. With that, you are making the castle a little more safe and comfortable. Take care and don’t drink too much coffee. That’s unhealthy. See you from afar.

This time Ileen smirked at her letter. That had been fun. And she wasn’t that worried after all, since it wasn’t unlikely that he had already forgotten her. Maybe he couldn’t even remember their encounter or at least not put her face to the name.

Letter three

There was one more - maybe two. For the last one she would have to summon her courage and the young girl wasn’t sure yet. But this one was rather easy. This Professor as well had changed or more paved the way for her.

Dear Professor Kibitzer,

I’m not sure if you can remember me, since I am a second year and I don’t have Divination yet. I think the first encounter that might be remarkable was the relay races last year. I was one of the two girls who were first watching and judging the others before involuntary taking part myself. When my friend got caught in the net, you gave us the necessary amount of humor, but you’ve still timed our race. I already highly appreciated that - plus, I am a little ashamed of the role I played, but it was fun after all. Next time, I will totally drag Dealla into it right away.

At the stargazing event, you told us that we have the potential to have a good influence on the school and I took that seriously. I am trying and working on making it a better place. Thank you for the encouragement even with our unconventional methods to make these idiots shut up sometimes I can’t really say that we are already successful with that, but we’re working on it!

My point is: I really like your kind of humor and I am grateful for your support. I can’t wait for Divination next year.

Callista sat down to think about this. There were a few teachers she wanted to reach out to, but she decided to start with the one that she guessed wouldn't have as many letters. The professor that taught one of her least favorite classes was an interesting option, but then again, that was part of the reason why she wanted to write this letter.

Letter I

November 4th, 2020

Dear Professor Jemari River Jemari,

Good morning (or evening), I know you might not know who I am, but I was quite nervous about your class before actually taking it. Although some of my fellow classmates might have been intimidated by your blunt honesty, I appreciate it. You probably passed dozens of my classmates before I finally got my broom to get up. (Somehow I get the feeling that the broom didn’t like me very much.) But for me, your jokes were both helpful and encouraging.

I’ve had a fear of heights from a young age, and although it’s better (or I think it’s better) now, flying high in the air and putting your life in the hands of a stick is not something I’m enthusiastic about. However, with your encouragement, it’s been slightly easier for me, even if it’s still hard and it probably won’t be my favorite class. Learning about things has always made things easier, for me at least, so I appreciate your honesty on the perils of flying, even if parts of it seem a little exaggerated.

So, in short, thank you for being a great teacher. I’m looking forward to more lessons in the future. Hopefully, I can raise my flying standards up to par with your guidance. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to face my fear. Have you ever been afraid of flying? Regardless... tibi gratias, Professor.
