Event The Fall Ball (The Hunt) Finished

The ball had barely started, and already, there was chaos reigning at a few odd places among the crowd. Punches were flying, dolls were jumping, there was the screeching call of an invisible whistle - but still, most of the ball so far was peaceful, students enjoying themselves and time with their dates and friends undisturbed. Until that peace, too, was interrupted.

Just as lightning struck outside, followed by thunder so quickly that it was clear that the storm outside was right over the castle, the ballroom's window seemed to burst inward with a crashing sound, and the flames of the candles throughout the room flickered, dark and then back to light, as if a gust of wind had rushed through the room, almost extinguishing their light, but not quite. Some screams echoed through the room as shards of glass went flying, would have the nearest students ducking for cover, trying to shield themselves from the deathly rain of broken glass - and between them, a rider galloped into the ballroom, deathly white and translucent.

It only took a second for the students to realize that the window wasn't actually broken, the masquerade still shielded and safe from storm and rain, and the glass shards had about as much substance as the cat that had been wandering around the ballroom since the ball had started. The ghostly rider, however, would not go ignored. He galloped into ballroom, between and through dancing students who would feel like they had been doused in a cold shower as he passed through them, and then turned in a tight circle as he came to a halt, announcing his business in a booming voice.

“Time is running out!

Something terrible is creeping about this castle, and if no one stops it, tragedy cannot be avoided.

If no one steps up to face this challenge, we are all doomed.

Follow the graceful apparition to find the riddle’s first piece - and if you need my help, call my full name.”

A dramatic entrance, and a mysterious message - a riddle, of sorts, a challenge, an obscure threat. There was a sense of urgency in the ghost's voice, plainly visible on his face: This was not a joke, not a prank, he was deadly serious. A last, almost pleading look was given to anyone who'd meet his eyes, before the ghost would turn his steed around and gallop from the ballroom.

And somewhere among the dancing, masked students, a cat, glowing in a translucent, dreamlike light, rose to stroll gracefully through the air, padded feet light, until she reached the door, where she turned to cast an imperious glance towards anyone watching, and disappeared into the corridor.

Kara had been racing to find the cat, but the only trail had been leading her down lots of stairs, which is making her feet kill her, as she's wearing heeled boots. She had heard a few other people following her, so she knew she wouldn't be alone, which was nice.

She made it to the corridor with her hands on her knees, heaving for her breath.

Curse you broken smoke filled lungs! She bitterly rebuked her dysfunctioning organs.

As she regained her stature, she looked around the corridor. Nothing seemed that out of place, only the usual flickering torches and steel armor reflecting the light. In the background, the sound of thunder could be heard, and footsteps of more people arriving sounded in her ears.

She though over the riddle many times over, but one line had fully had her attention.

"Follow the graceful apparition to find the riddle’s first piece - and if you need my help, call my full name.”

She continued to mutter it under her breath, her eyes batting around for anything of use. She kept thinking, but a question came to her mind.

"The ghost had mentioned something," She mentioned to the crowd "If anyone at all recognized the ghost, please make sure to know his full name, as he said if we needed help, call his full name! Keep that information to good use, also try to look for anything that could help us!"

She then went back to her own search, the image of the beautiful glimmering cat still in the back of her mind. She had wondered, maybe the cat could help them, maybe it could be of use.
Action- Searching for any clues or anything of use, but most specifically, searching for the mystical cat.

WHETHER OR NOT AMELIA WOULD FOLLOW HER, Sapphire followed closely behind another girl and also the ethereal cat. Well, here's a thrill, she thought. She was both nervous and a bit excited by this prospect. She was enticed by the thought of walking straight into danger.

It was surely risky, but she nearly flew down the stairs. She nearly tripped a number of times, her heels giving her a slight problem, much like the other girl. She didn't know her name.

She made it down before the other people, slightly out of breath, and slowed her pace considerably. She cast her gaze back at the other people who followed, spotting the one person looking like she was having a bit of trouble. It didn't look fun.

The storm was eerie, adding another aspect to the whole dangerous aspect the night had taken. The ghost mentioned his name, didn't he? Except, what the hell is his name? I've never seen nor encountered it before, she thought, and apparently, the one girl did as well, because she spoke out about it - asking if anyone knew his name.

She would wait to figure out if anyone knew, given to her own lack of knowledge, but she would also think quite a bit about the possibilities. What could his name be? Seeing as that was essential to their ongoing plot. She had to resist the temptation to grin. Quite a bad situation to do that in, wasn't it?

Interacting With:Charles Alluring @Henry Knight
Speech Color: #A0A9B8
Action: Watching out for anything suspicious
Wand in hand, Alec entered the corridor. With um.. A staggering Charles Alluring behind him. Alec gave an awkward laugh as he let go of him. "Heh.. Sorry about that.." Alec said. His voice quieter than usual.

While he felt bad for having sort of shaking Charles up, practically dragging him along with Alec here. Alec had other things on his mind. Making sure to keep a watchful eye of his surroundings. Even as he spoke. Look just because Alec had decided to do something very very stupid. And most likely very dangerous, did not mean he had a death wish. Let's just make that clear. Alec was twelve. At least wait until he was in his eighties and life felt boring.

As he kept a watchful eye, he noticed two girls there. Alec decided to bring his attention to the two of them for a moment. One muttering what the ghost had said. The other was just a seemingly quiet girl. But she looked to be just as confused as the first. "The ghost had mentioned something," The first girl said, pausing. And then speaking again. "If anyone at all recognized the ghost, please make sure to know his full name, as he said if we needed help, call his full name! Keep that information to good use, also try to look for anything that could help us!" She was practically yelling. That wasn't really needed..

Shifting, Alec turned back to Charles. "Have any good ideas?" He asked. "It's honestly no use to aimlessly look around without at least one small lead" Alec said. Of course the cat had something to do with it. Back Alec wasn't going to take that for an answer to Alec's question if Charles even tried. Thinking about it. For the aimlessly searching a new strategy might also have had to be put into place for such. But Alec deciding to make himself somewhat useful since he wasn't sure where to go with this. He decided he'd for now just keep watch for anything suspicious. That was a reasonable plan.

Usually Alec's problem-solving skills came into hand with situations like this. But with no lead. No anything, no nothing. It was kind of hard to get anywhere. So he supposed the other were right with aimlessly searching. For now. As a viable option. Besides, it's not like there was much else they could do for it right now.

Especially with the so little given context. Couldn't he have stayed a minute longer to just like give a hint more of detail? You know? Waste his time on that. And maybe not on his entrance? I don't know. Seems like a pretty smart move there. Even though Alec did have to admit. It was pretty cool. And definitely attention grabbing. Quantity over quality Alec assumed. The mindset of the ghost probably being something along the lines of. I need to do this really attention grabbing thing so a ton of people will notice. And a ton of people will walk out and help. It was also a smart move. But still! That wasn't going to be very helpful down the long run now, was it.

Permission from the person playing Charles Alluring to sort of drag Charles out of the room granted.

Jayden’s horned owl costume:
Reducio
The entire thing was coated in brown barred feathers: A knee-length halter dress with a slightly longer, poofier tail; a capelet covering her shoulders; a scarf of "wings" between her arms; her mask, of course; as well as the clip that held her twisted hair bun in place.

The owl feathers were pressed nice and silky, and overall carried its own elegance, made even more impressive by the lengths of Jayden's shoes, sparing no detail to make herself look as owly as possible. A metallic gold design of owl's claws - back talon extending along the length of her five-inch platform heels, with three front talons hooking over her toes (not protruding from the shoe, so they wouldn't snag on anything or stab anyone).

Jayden hung a little towards the rear of the group, keeping an eye peeled for anything that might sneak up on them from behind. Besides, she wasn't familiar with the layout of the Castle, so better to let those Hogwarts students that knew the place lead the way.

She overheard the "leader" [@Kara Capricorn] announce:

"The ghost had mentioned something. If anyone at all recognized the ghost, please make sure to know his full name, as he said if we needed help, call his full name! Keep that information to good use, also try to look for anything that could help us!"

Jayden could offer her two knuts' worth. "The ghost said to follow, so follow we should," she'd comment with a shrug to no one in particular, before hesitating a split-second. "Unless if it's one of those traps or distractions to lure us away from the Ballroom." She tugged a sly smirk, huffing with amusement.

Way to sow doubt, though Jayden certainly hoped that weren't the case.

"Hey, kitty-kitty, come back!" She'd trill playfully, knowing better than to give her hopes up that the ghost cat would listen to her. "Where're you going?" Her voice echoed softly down the corridor.

On the other hand, perhaps she better keep quiet and let the ghost cat do its thing in showing them where the first piece to their riddle lied.

Reverting to normal voice, she'd pretty much state the obvious, though there wasn't any harm in keeping everyone's focus on track. "If the ghost wanted us to know his name, there should be clues to tell us who he is. Wish he could've told us straight, though," she half-muttered to herself in complaint. "Does he expect us to know his name? Is he unable to say his name?" Again, they were aimless ramblings. Jayden gripped her wand tightly, turning her gaze to examine her surroundings, memorizing each corner they turned. If worst happened, she might need to find her way back to the safety of the Ballroom without relying on the group.

Roleplaying as Dmitri Kazimir Jones
Perfectionist | Perfectionist II | Spell Spread | Terrible Presence
Sta 7, Str 2, Eva 6, Wis 14, Arc 11, Acc 10

In situations like these, it was usually just Dmitri and his wits. In fact, it was true for all situations, and all persons in serious, high-stress scenarios. One's wisdom and one's intelligence is something you cannot lose. Confidence flees in the face of adversity, sense leaves during confusing, puzzling moments—even connection wavers in front of disadvantageous odds.

But your knowledge stays as your most powerful weapon.

It was this wisdom that Dmitri tried to draw upon as he followed the incorporeal feline running down the corridors.

As of the moment, he was stumped—a rare occurrence.

His last few encounters from wanting answers ended up with him stung by giant fucking insects, and being assaulted by a younger kid with inhuman, augmented strength. All his attempts at finding the common denominator in all of the happenings of the past years ended up in vain.

But this time, striding down this cold, stone hallway, Dmitri was ready to use everything in his arsenal to find at least a single thing that... made sense.

@Andrew Vance As Jayden

"The ghost said to follow, so follow we should," A girl had piped up from behind her. Kara turned her head, an irritated look on her face, to which the girl had shrugged.

"Thanks for pointing that out captain obvious." Kara said, but the moment after she said that, the girl said something a little more sane.

"Unless if it's one of those traps or distractions to lure us away from the Ballroom." She could be right, but it didn't have enough evidence behind the accusation.

"That ghost was dead serious, if you actually looked at his face, he looked scared out of his deceased mind."

As she kept searching, she saw something sitting by the feet of one of the suits of armor.

"Candy?" She muttered. She looked closer and picked up the two pieces of candy. One was a sherbet lemon, and the other an acid pop.

"Guys, I found something!" She walked to the middle of the corridors, attempting to show everyone her newfound discovery.

"It's just candy, but the thing is," She pulled the toothflossing stringmint from her pocket which also held her wand, and held the floss in her other hand "I had also found this on the way here, right outside the ballroom. So it seems the culprit must have been eating to much candy and has some pretty bad dental hygiene."

Kara stared at the things she had found, trying to figure out just what the hell was going on.

Elspeth had no intention of going to the Ball. More than that, she had no intention of leaving the Slytherin Common Room. While, she didn't particularly like the place, it was at least quiet since everyone else was at the Ball. This allowed for reading, cleaning and just thinking.

But her peaceful evening alone had to be interrupted when something happened: Maggie was missing.

The Pygmy Puff often slept in her trunk, but she did roam the castle at times, even if it was only in Elsie's own arms as she carried her about. In fact, she had been carrying Maggie around between classes earlier that day. And that was why it was only logical to retrace her steps as soon as possible--waiting would risk the Pygmy Puff's safety.

Exiting the Common Room, she moved swiftly through the corridors, moving her head from left to right as she watched the ground like a mother hawk for a glint of bright purple fur. Against the deep stone, she imagined it shouldn't be hard to find Magistrate--assuming she wasn't trampled by some ball-goer's shoe. Elsie winced at thought.

In the distance, she could see some other students coming from the opposite direction and talking amongst themselves. If one of them had stepped on Maggie, she just didn't know what she would do. Furiously, she returned her attention to the floor below, searching.

Yeah, Lucia had no idea what she was doing. She had left the ball on a split-second's decision, and (to be completely honest) was now wishing she hadn't. "I didn't recognise him..." she said quietly, to the group at large, "But Ebony - my mother - I think she once mentioned a club of ghosts who rode horses. They had all been beheaded, I think. But I don't remember much more than that." Lucia paused, frowning. "But that ghost still had his head, didn't he?"

Everyone else seemed to be looking for the cat, but there were several things Lucia thought they could be doing. Looking for the cat was one, sure, but there was also the rider, and... No, that was all she could think of.
"Merlin..." she said to herself, quietly, leaning against the wall as if to steady herself. "What's even going on?!"

The heroines in the books Lucia loved would have been far more descisive, Lucia was sure. As it was, the Hufflepuff readied her wand and took quick but deep breaths, looking over at Scarlett, who had come with her, and anyone else who had followed the pair. "This is all just so... So wierd..." she muttered lamely. "This sort of stuff doesn't even happen! Not in real life!"
She gave a tiny smile. "Follow that cat. It sounds like a cheesy one-liner from a Malory Towers book." Lucia raised an eyebrow behind her mask, and adjusted her bag. "Okay then. Let's follow that cat."

AS OF YET, not many people had joined the conversation. Which wasn't even exactly a conversation, but that was against the point. There were a few questions and suggestions which she couldn't answer, something that she regretted quite a bit.

She perked up a bit at the first girl's mention of candy. She, too, had noticed the odd detail. "I as well found an acid pop back by the ballroom. It certainly seems like an odd thing to be here, candy. Of course, it could be a red herring, but it's something to take into consideration. Maybe we'll find out more if we find out what the ghost's name is," she inputted. The name thing was slightly reminding her of Jumanji, although the context for the two topics were drastically different.

She mostly stayed quiet throughout the interactions, though another girl (Lucia) had brought up a group of ghosts that she vaguely knew of. "I believe I know to whom you are referring to. It's the headless hunt, right? Ironic that we're on a hunt then," she said, mumbling the last part. "But yes, they only have people without heads in that group, so that sort of rules out that idea. And either way, that doesn't much allude to his name."

She went quiet again after that statement, listening as the girl continued speaking. The part about fairly tails sort of ticked her off, and nerves and anger were not a good combination for her. "Yes, well you better start expecting things like this, with the track record of this school," she said under her breath. But she also had a good point.

Sapphire harshly hit her wrist again, mentally chastising herself for judging but also still annoyed. "Where did the cat go, then?" she asked. "I lost sight of it, and I think I would take notice of a glowing creature such as that."
