Pranking Catastrophe
Sophie slithered out into the patches of grass next to the Great Lake. She had dungbombs stacked to the brim of her bag. Her own plan to ruin the beauty of the Lake was actually going really well. She was planning to set the bombs in the trees, and make a contraption, so if anyone or anything walked by it, it should set off, and cover the person in a putrid smell. Of course, if it messed up, her whole plan would fail, and she'd be the laughing stock of the school. That wasn't so good itself.
Of course, the upside was that the prank went amazing and that everyone would envy her. But, lets be honest. Was that really likely to happen? Then her other, positive mind kicked in. 'Don't worry, Soph, if your plan fails, just deny you did it.' That's not how things work.
The first thing she needed was to find out how to do it. "What spell should I use... There has to be a spell that ticks itself off if someone nears the dungbombs.." She'd mutter, obviously lost in thought. Her mind wandered, she had read so many spell books, why didn't she know a good spell now? Maybe that was why the prank was going to go wrong, even if she did perfect it.

Lucy meandered around the edge of the Great Lake, looking at its waters longingly. She wouldn't dare swim in it, though she loved swimming, because of the nasty monsters that lurked in its depths. That's one good thing about the muggle world, she thought with a wry smile, there aren't too many beasties to worry about! She would have continued exploring the perimeter, but she saw a hint of movement in her peripheral vision.
Wonderful! I haven't talked with someone in at least... oh, let's see... ten minutes? I better go say hello. She moved briskly toward Sophie, a ready grin on her face. As she approached, she failed to notice her skulking manner and her heavily-laden bag. What she did notice, however, is that they both had blonde hair and that they were both outside on a beautiful, sunny day. We have so much in common already! Lucy thought cheerfully to herself, now about two meters away from the conniving girl. Had Lucy any idea of what Sophie was up to, she never would have approached. In fact, she would have quickly ran to get a prefect since she was terrified of getting in trouble and would much rather tattle than face detention.
"Hullo!" she called out gaily, sweeping her whole arm in an exaggerated, windmill wave. "The name's Lucy, and I'm a Hufflepuff. What's your name? What're you doing?" while she was just making small talk, Lucy did finally register that Sophie was carrying a bag. She doesn't look like she wants to study out here. Maybe she just got done. She beamed at the girl, mentally applauding her for being so studious.

She'd glance over her shoulder. Her eyes were full of anger... and, mischief.
"Ah! Hello. I'm Sophie, Sophie Murphy. Of the Gryffindor tower. How would you like a sample of a free dungbomb?" She'd snap. She was clearly pissed off. She opened the bag to reveal hundreds of dungbombs. She'd pick one up, it seemed almost bigger than her hand. She'd toss it beside the girl.
"Oi, I need a spell that will send this up if someone walks near it." She'd walk to the girl and lay her arm loosely around the girl. This was a friendly manner, but Sophie seemed not so friendly. Her eyes hid a mischievous look, but her lips turned into a friendly, kind smile.
She swiftly picked up her bag and opened a beautiful leather bound book. On the cover, were the words, 'Hexes and Jinx's' By George Weasley. She'd flip through a few of the pages, to a page titled, 'Spells for Pranks!' She began to read it, then shoving the book in the girls arms. "Read it! Its about pranks and stuff! But it never mentions a sensory spell-
Don't mention this to the professors, by the way. You seem like the kind who would like to prank. I'll let you in on it." She'd promise. grinning.

From the tree, where he had been napping, Kaegen watched the two.
Was that girl insane? She couldn't cast a single one of the spells in that book, it was stuff for 3rd years, or at the very least second years. At least she was ambitious, Kaegen had to give her that.
"What's a prank?"
The young boy's whispery voice seemed to come from somewhere else, a breeze blowing around the air, looking for someone's ears. He had practiced this voice of his, made it a habit. Designed to stop the prying ears of magical predators from finding his hiding place as he talked to grandfather in the Fens where he grew up. At this point in time he had completely forgotten how to speak normally.
And now he had found something interesting to focus on, his eyes flashing around like a pair of trapped lightning bugs. Never settling in one place, looking everywhere possible for something to capture his attention. And this pranks had definitely captured his attention. He would find out what this was about, if it was still interesting, he would master it. He wondered if it was taught at school, had he been missing pranks classes?
No, someone would have mentioned something.

Artemys had been outside already for a few hours. She had claimed a spot under a large tree by the lake, and had been sitting under it for a while. Her morning had been spent finishing her homework, and once that was finished she had taken out her sketchbook and started drawing the landscape. It was quite peaceful, really; the light breeze occasionally ruffling through the pages, everything green and pleasant, it was truly lovely. She thought it best to get some fresh air while she could, not really having time to venture outside much between classes and homework.
The Ravenclaw first year had decided to wear some muggle clothing today, choosing a purple T-shirt, brown jacket, and a pair of jeggings. She had taken her Converse off, preferring to lay down on a picnic blanket that she had brought. She had come prepared to spend the day at the lake, bringing a lunch and blanket to lie down on.
Artemys sighed happily, looking off at the open waters. The silence had been nice while she was doing work, but she was starting to feel a bit lonely by herself. Hopefully, someone would come down from the castle. She had seen a few other students earlier, but they were all doing their own thing and she didn't want to interrupt. However, she had started getting lonely. She sighed again, continuing to scribble in her notebook.

Blinking and opening and closing her mouth like a goldfish trapped in a very uncomfortable, very smelly, and a very illicit fishbowl, Lucy huffed as the book slammed into her torso. Looking first at the contraband prank item, then to the girl, then to the highly frowned-upon book in her hand, she chuckled nervously and edged away from the dungbomb.
Lucy was frozen. How? What? How did this happen? I never freeze! her mind cried, willing herself to do or say something. "Well, uh..." she started, licking her lips. She was torn. She didn't want to get on the bad side of this clearly creative and slightly scary Gryffindor girl.
"What's a prank?" whispered on the breeze. It was enough to get her mind going again. A prank? A prank?!
Guilty by association! she thought in terror. What is this was enough to get her expelled? She hadn't even learned useful things yet! "Well you see I don't actually know much about pranking at all. See I never was a good pranker. I didn't participate in April Fools. I don't have siblings. Me mum and dad just sit around at night sharing food... and smiles..." she rambled as she continued to edge away from the dungbomb. She was careful not to touch it, as she had heard that whoever touches a dungbomb usually got caught because of the residue it left on them.
"So it was nice to meet you, Sophie, but I really must be going. Maybe we can hang out if you don't get expelled - I mean after you're done here... well... bye!" Lucy whirled, still clutching the book Hexes and Jinxes. She sprinted full force, her fight or flight instinct completely taking control over her body. She risked looking back at Sophie to see if she were in pursuit or throwing unpleasant dungbombs at her. While she was looking back, she suddenly found herself falling and hitting the ground rather hard. She gasped for air, trying to fill her lungs. Her face had smashed into the grass. Her nose... she felt it with her hand, wiping away dirt from her eyes at the same time. Tender, but not broken.
She slowly rolled over, eyes widening as she realised that she had tripped over a girl wearing Muggle clothing. She attempted to apologise, but nothing came out. She flopped onto her back, still struggling for air. The book that she had accidentally stolen lay on the ground, several feet from her head.

Arty had noticed someone approaching, but hadn't paid any mind until she felt a body fall on top of her. She felt herself get squished down for a moment, a pain in her side where the girl's foot had hit, and then her face going into the ground. Not hard enough to break or truly her anything, but still enough to feel smushed.
The Ravenclaw sat up and brushed her face off, then turned to the girl who had tripped on her.
Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! Are you alright? Artemys had heard the...Hufflepuff she assumed... slap her face on the ground, and wanted to make sure she was ok.
She paused a moment, seeing the book on the ground and feeling even more hurt. Poor book! She went over and picked it up, brushing it off and holding out her hand to the fallen girl. Need a hand? That was quite a fall.
Do you want me to take you up to the Hospital Wing? Check out that nose,
make sure it's ok? Again, I am so sorry. I should have said something before you came too close to trip on me...heh... She gave a small smile, trying to break the ice, or at least be friendlier.

Sophie had gasped when she saw the Blonde Hufflepuff collapse. She raced to the girl, a horrible thought in her mind. 'Was she okay? Is she hurt? Do something you dingbat!' Her mind called to her. Sophie's voice was calmly steady.
"Hey, you okay? That was a pretty Nasty fall." She'd say, as took a few steps away from the Hufflepuff, thinking she would do something bad again.
Sophie saw another girl walk by, the girl who Lucy had tripped on. The girl had asked Lucy if she was okay as well. Sophie felt bad for being mean to the Hufflepuff. 'Guilty as charged. I might as well apologize before I start to feel bad.' Her mind told her.
She quickly helped the Hufflepuff get up along with the other girl.
"Hey, sorry Lucy. This is all my fault. If I wasn't rude, and didn't make you want to leave then you wouldn't have fallen. I'm really, really sorry." She'd apologize over and over. 'This is Gran and Grandpa over again, you blithering idiot! You need to be kinder and make people laugh and be happy, not try to make them fall and be hurt! What if your mum found out! She'd yell at you, and so would dad! Make sure everything is okay you mess up!' Her mind would repeat itself again and again for a few minutes.

Lucy regained her breath and evaluated the two girls near her. The Gryffindor girl - Sophie, was it? - now seemed positively friendly and apologetic. Lucy stifled a groan. Had she misread the girl? She was getting a pretty solid vibe that she was going to be a trouble-maker, but now she seemed positively sweet and genuine. You're an idiot, Lucy. Why did you panic like that? she groaned, mentally berating herself.
She shook her head to Arty's questions. "I'm okay, thank you. I'm sorry - oof," she winced as she sat up, finding some previously undiscovered bruises on her torso, "I'm sorry I tripped over you. I kinda just freaked out. That was pretty stupid of me." She flashed a weak smile at the girl on the ground. "I'm sorry - did I hurt you in the process? That could not have been a comfortable experience for you, either."
She turned to Sophie and felt the blood rush to her face. Lucy didn't normally get embarrassed, but she had clearly misjudged the Gryffindor girl in front of her. "Yeah, I'm fine. I don't know why I freaked out. I - I just don't like getting in trouble, I guess. I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to breaking rules. I've been labelled a "goody-goody" before. Not that I mean that would make you a "baddy-baddy" or anything!" She stopped, frustrated at her inability to express herself. Her eye caught on the book that she had accidentally stolen. "Oh. Woops. Again. Here you go," she said, picking it up and offering it to Sophie. "I bet this is really entertaining to read. I think I got some mud on it." She spit onto the sleeve of her robe and polished off the mud before re-extending it to Sophie. "Good as new?" she said uncertainly with a grin.

Sophie laughed a bit. This girl had clearly misread Sophie, but not totally. "Well technically I am a baddy-baddy. I like to pull pranks and stuff, but I don't go too bad. Maybe out a toe over the line, but I wouldn't go all out to hurt someone, don't misinterpret me, but I do love me some pranks!" She'd smiled a bit, remembering how her best friend had reacted to the moment when Sophie had pulled a prank on her.
Sophie, jumping back into the present, took the book and smiled. "So, are we friends, or not?"

"Sophie! Where are you? We need to work on the muggle homework! Called a girl so unfamiliar to Sophie now. This girl was Zero Blue, Sophie's really only friend, until they had been sorted into different houses, and then spread apart. Zero was never social, and couldn't make friends as easily as Sophie could, leaving her in the dumps, while Sophie was beaming with friends. Sophie, however, had been hiding just around the corner, waiting with a dung-bomb in her hand, tying it to a rope strung to the ceiling. When the dung-bomb had been tied, Sophie walked besides the trap, and into the light. "Come on Zero! Lets make some food and then eat!" Sophie had called. When Zero had set off the trap, she was so mad at Sophie, she had tried to curse the girl, but Sophie just laughed it off.
Sophie, jumping back into the present, took the book and smiled. "So, are we friends, or not?"
